Great "hole in a wall" place! Been coming here for years. Everything on the menu is inexpensive, portions are big, and food is always out in 5min or so. Anyone who would give anything less than 4 stars is...... Crazy. This has become a Saturday ritual for my wife and I. The serves are sweet and friendly every time. Highly recommend! I THOROUGHLY enjoyed this place. I got up at six and left the motel (my last review) and found this place through yelp. It was like every diner you see on television. The servers were friendly and with great smiles, something you don't expect from anyone working somewhere that early in the morning. The coffee was fresh and hot (and continuously refilled for free, much to my pleasure) I had a western omelet, a bowl of grits and toast. The omelet was warm and cooked well, as well as thick and filling. The grits were excellent, I hadn't had grits in a long time, so they won me over. I am not sure what led me here, but for some reason I was hoping it would be the best hole in the wall place of my life. The place has a very nasty, mold smell to it as soon as you walk in and it really turned me and my friend off. The booths are old and dirty as well..All signs of a grand hole in the wall. I had the "breakfast taco" which was so huge it was more like a breakfast burrito. It really did have that "I could totally make this at home" look and taste. It is a tortilla stuffed with eggs, potates, sausage, and cheese. My friend had a ham and cheese crossiant which he enjoyed. Rise and Shine was much better than I anticipated - I didn't look at Yelp before going. Our service was fast and the food came out within five or so minutes of ordering. The homemade biscuit was soft and delicious, my California scramble with two eggs over easy was superb, and was in and out of there in thirty minutes. Just plain great!!! I love me a hole in the wall in the land of the bland chain restaurant and this, to my surprise met the criteria. Food was excellent, service was excellent and prices were incredibly reasonable. Thankfully the other reviews were spot on - hence the reason I tried the restaurant in the first place. Living only 4 miles from this place I will be a frequent customer from now on. And for the commenter wishing this were on Cooper - I say thankfully it is not. I have no trouble avoiding the traffic and congestion that is Cooper. I just wish it were open in the evening when I need a breakfast fix for dinner...oh well one can only dream. I do have some trouble with the closing time of the restaurant at times (the yelp timing is apparently incorrect), but when I am able to successfully land a table for myself I am greeted with a friendly smile and some fresh coffee. I am in love with the sausage, jack, and jalapeño omelette (and I like to add a bit of avocado to spice things up), its warmth and gooeyness can't be described by words, but by devouring it. Trying out the french toast today, and even though it's a tad busy, the staff never fails to keep my coffee mug full and appropriately checks up on me to make sure I am enjoying my experience. After a lovely church sermon, we were jonesing hard for some delicious breakfast. Alas, it was 1pm! Of course, at that time some chain restaurants (namely cracker barrel, IHOP etc) still serve breakfast, but we were feeling adventurous. Checking out the yelp reviews, we found Rise and Shine in Arlington. Now, don't get me wrong, the food was good. It would be even better in the early morning, and the biscuits were simply divine. The rest of the dishes were A-OK (if we use Yelp review terms), but nothing awe-inspiring. I did take 2 points off for some issues with the interior and the service. I'm not one to quibble about appearance and ambiance all that much, but some standards should be kept. From the outside, Rise and Shine looks abandoned. Inside, there is a distinct musty odor, and the furniture and carpet look positively ancient. Not such a big deal just yet, right? Well, the table was sticky, and my utensils didn't look entirely clean. Then my girlfriend asked for decaf coffee, and as we were walking out we observed our server pouring regular coffee into the decaf coffee pot...not a good practice at all. Was the food good? Yeah, it was alright. Would I eat here again? Probably not, but for those who are in the area who crave biscuits and an omelet (of which they have 50 varieties), then by all means check it out. I'm assuming the service, cleanliness and quality of the food improves in the morning versus afternoon. read more

Amazing food... amazing service. We ate here Sunday morning about 10am. The place was packed, but we got in pretty quickly. Service staff was on us the whole time, getting us seated, getting us drinks, and just making sure we were being taken care of. I was wearing a kilt because of the Arlington Highland Games, so I may have gotten a little extra attention because of it. The omelets were large without being overly large, and with the hash browns and biscuit and gravy that came with it, I was 'all fulled up'. Two of us consumed large omelets, hash browns and b&g with iced teas for $16... It'll be next year before we're back... but we WILL be back! read more

Home made biscuits that are fluffy and buttered to perfection the gravy didn't need anything added to it, which is a rare find and my over easy eggs were cooked exactly the way I wanted. The atmosphere is cozy. The seasoned regulars sitting off to the right drinking coffee and chatting make you feel at home and you know the food is good if a place has regulars of that tenured. Visiting from California and wanted a local homey type of place. Rise and Shine did not disappoint. They have many different menu options with omelette sad the speciality. Decided to build my own omelette but everything they cooked seemed to be like a speciality and was delicious. The homemade bread was soft and rich of taste. The home fried potatoes were plentiful and great. The Biscuits and Gravy (which are my favorite) were over the top delicious. The service received was great. Staff was friendly. I love this place. I used to come here a lot more when I went to school near by but I still come know that I don't go to school near here. For me it's well worth the trek, the food is always exactly what I want. I've never had a bad experience with the staff, they are always so friendly and treat you like family. They used to not have Cholula so I actually bought a bottle to bring with me when eating here but recently we went and they had the stuff. It made my day, to know that they listened the last few times I asked and actually did something about it (I'm sure I'm not the only customer who asked for Cholula but it's nice to know they listen to the wants of the customers). read more

If you are expecting fresh ingredients just don't. Only thing that looked freshly made was the biscuit. I ordered ham, cheese,"avocado" omelette and get an omelette slathered in guacamole. Not homemade guac but coming from some vat and salsa looked the same. I should have known and should have driven the extra time to Breadwinners. This place is a hole in the wall and I mean that by it not having a great look but once you try the food ... oh man you will be blown away. Our server was very polite. We went at about 10ish on a Sunday. It was not busy at all. It was just two of us and with drinks and breakfast we paid $16.50. The food is so nicely homemade. The bacon was very crisp and my croissant was even cut in half. I thought that was very courtesy of them to cut it, as I was going to do it myself. The only thing I found to be a bit odd (bc there is always room for improvement) is that the other sever that was there was hollering clear across the dinning area as was whoever was hollering at her. They weren't saying anything inappropriate but they just didn't have to holler. We let the lady cashing us out, that the food was great and to thank the cook. I really, really like breakfast foods. I like eggs and hash browns and biscuits and gravy and pancakes and toast. Not super fond of omelettes, but everything else "breakfast" is great in my book. Cereal, oatmeal, muesli. Fresh fruits and yogurt. I must have driven by Rise and Shine half a hundred times after work when I was running errands. Never noticed it, probably figured it was abandoned. It's, uh, not - it's very lively in the mornings, and for good reason! Rise and Shine delivers on breakfast basics, and does it with good prices, patient service, and a "settle in" atmosphere. Winners: You walk in and seat yourself, so we were seated quickly. The menu is large. Once we ordered we received our food very quickly, and our server made sure my water and coffee were full and that we didn't need for anything. The homemade white bread was astoundingly good, and I liked the biscuit and gravy as well. Losers: It isn't open in the afternoons. I would have stopped by much sooner if Rise and Shine showed signs of life later in the day. The decor screams "greasy diner food," but that isn't really what you get. Could confuse people. Verdict: We'll go back. There's so much we haven't yet done: we haven't tried the raisin bread. I haven't ordered the french toast or biscuit debris. The waitress doesn't know my name. We had a lot of fun this visit, and we left happy. Why not go back? I even liked the omelette. read more

Used to get good service & food here.. pretty much grew up coming here with my family but here lately it's just been bad experiences. The waitress we used to request is no longer there & now I see why.. the last 2 times we've gone in as a family & ordered sandwiches for lunch we were givin bare minimum. As in, just meat & cheese on bread, then told we had to pay extra if we wanted anything else on it. Even tho in the menu says it comes with lettuce, tomatoes & other things. I tried ordering a waffle & it was burnt black on one side. It is just not the same as it used to be. Drink prices have gone up & the place just is not as welcoming as it used to be. Way too big of a price jump for what you get. Sadly I doubt we will be back here, even tho we've been customers for years now. read more

We live by Fielder and Park Row and had seen this place always be full in the mornings...so one morning we decided to check it out. Very glad we did. First everything on the menu sounds good so it was tough to decide. My wife ended up having the waffles and I had the french toast...we figured we could try each others. My wife had major breakfast envy b/c the french toast was freaking Awesome!!!! Toasted (not burnt but almost - that perfect brown) and crisp but still had that great french toast flavor. Very possibly the best i've ever had - if I had a complaint it was that there wasn't more than just the two small slices on the plate I ordered. My wife's waffle was very good - just not quite like the french toast. We'll definitely be back b/c there is plenty we want to try but I'm pretty sure that no matter what else we eat - we'll both still want a side of that freakin' french toast. I didn't go full on 5 stars b/c I've only been once and can't really comment on the lunch so not sure it's quiet as good as it gets as far as decor or anything like that....but definitely a fan. read more

I hate to review this place so low because we had such high hopes and our first two experiences were decent. Today's visit will be our last. The food- no seasoning. Very bland. If there was any salt and pepper used I'd be very surprised. The service - we sat right across from the station where the waitstaff sit and stand to gossip and complain. We were even lucky enough to hear one of the older ladies state that the bar stool was cold enough that it froze her "cooch". Yuck. If the owners read this, I have a question - why do you keep half poured cups of water stacked up by the ice bin? Is there no concern that the water is left open for dust and debris? When a customer orders water, the waitstaff just grabs one of these cups and fills it with ice and proceeds to serve it. Did I mention that we won't be back? read more

Rise and Shine is the type of restaurant I would only find though Yelp. The parking lot and building facade are old and were obviously acquired by the restaurant owner at a bargain. The food, however, is phenomenal. My sister had the French toast, which may be the best I've ever had. The trick is that they use their own delicious homemade bread. I had a sausage, cheese, and jalapeño omelet, which was also good. Their raisin bread, also homemade, was very good as well. All of their meal prices looked well under $10. read more

The breakfast scene is one you'd find in small towns: local regulars, waitresses that know all their customers, and good basic breakfast fare at a reasonable price. I can't eat eggs, so I'm constantly in search of breakfast meals that fit my diet. In addition to pancakes, sausage and hash browns, R&S offers "biscuit debris", basically biscuits and gravy with ham, cheese and other yummy stuff on top, with hash brown on the side. The family orders omelettes, breakfast taquitos and raisin bread purported to be homemade (and good enough to be). We come here several times a month, so it all has to be good.
