Casey was pretty knowledgeable and I got some insight on my condition during my first appointment. I had a lower back/hip pull later that week on a Friday night so I called their number recording and emailed my PT about cancelling my Monday 2:00 PM appointment. I got a call back on Monday morning letting me know that I would be charged $99 for not giving them 24 working day notice (their initial paperwork also stated this policy so I knew about it). The person also asked me if I wanted to appeal that fee. I told her no and asked her to cancel my last two appointments. I would have expected the person calling to ask me what my mitigating circumstances were (although I mentioned them in my voice mail) rather than state I was being charged for the not canceling sooner. All in all - if I ever need physical therapy I would never consider a company that did not value me over their cancelation policy epically since they had all Monday morning to attempt to fill that slot. I also learned from the PT that he was really busy at that location. I'm giving two stars since I got some value from the PT but removing three stars since the business is not run very well in my opinion. read more

Amazing place for PT! I spent about about 2-3 months attending physical therapy with DPT Noora. During that time we spent time assessing and properly diagnosing the source of my back pain. After that Noora used different techniques of treatment such as deep tissues massages, mobility and strengthening exercises, and she even gave me print-outs of exercises I should be doing at home. I have always been a physically active person and I had spent years dealing with back pain and not able to participate in any sports. If you put in the effort Rise will take care of the rest. Noora has been a great help in my recovery from plantar fascia. She is an expert in percussion therapy. It is one of the only therapies where I have seen improvement in my mobility. The deep treatment is felt from the beginning to the end of the sessions and has given me relief from the pain in areas that others have not helped as much. read more

I have some significant neurological issues, so I have been to a number of physical therapy businesses. I have found most of them not be worth the time invested. I found RISE physical therapy to be different. When I went there, Summer Stewart was assigned to me. She has a Doctors Degree in physical therapy from Baylor University and by my estimation she must have been at the top of her class. She explains things so that you know why you are doing a particular exercise. She spends the entire hour with me and I have had excellent results. She keeps changing the regimen as I progress. I can recommend RISE and Summer to you and you won't be disappointed. read more

I went to this location hoping for some relief for my sciatica. I had 4 sessions with Noora and felt so good I was able to attend a 4 day golf trip. She was very understanding, knowledgeable and kind. She gave me very clear instructions for home therapies that really helped. I came here for my PT after back surgery. My therapist Eric has been great to work with. He has definitely worked hard to get me back in shape. The only downside of using this location is parking. There is never any parking in the lot. I have noticed all the Therapist and employees are always parked in the front spaces. The employees should be encouraged to park in the back where there are always spots but no customer entrance. For a customer to have to park in the back or offsite (which I have had to do more often than not) when coming for physically therapy is wrong. Find a location with parking. read more

Darren was wonderful to work with he kept things professional and fun at the same time. He is very knowledgeable and understood exactly what I was talking about when describing my pain. If an exercise hurt he always had a back up for that work out so I wouldn't feel as much discomfort. After my visit even though I would feel sore I would feel improvements as the weeks went by. By the end of my sessions with Darren I felt 100x better than I did when I first started. I still struggle with some pain but no where near what I felt in the beginning. I would recommend rise physical therapy and would go back myself if I ever need to in the future and ask for Darren again. read more

I normally don't give five-star rating, because that would suggest (perfection), there's no room for improvement. This goes out to Darren Sumbillo (Doctor of Physical Therapy) PT, DPT... Dr. Sumbillo, is a very uplifting, motivating, and extremely patient individual. My therapy/training sessions usually start every Tuesday at 9am and always end on a high note. I always get the best out of my workout, with extended suggestions/advice on how to improve upon certain physical attributes on my own. He always talks about, consistency (working-out), being key to healing process. While listening to my verbiage, and observing my range of motion, I'm sure he could notice that in the beginning I wasn't following his advice. However, as my sessions progressed and I began to adhere to his advice, I have noticed an improvement. "Doc," is not only a great therapist, but he's also really a genuinely good guy. I say that because he's not just hands on with his work ethics, he's personable enough where you feel comfortable. While indulging in conversation that is centered around his client/patient, he ensures that you're have the best experience, while in his care. I started coming to RISE in El Cajon just after they opened. I had started with another company and was assigned Matt Hemphill as my therapist. When Matt told me he would be leaving and joining the RISE team, I was panicked! I was beyond thrilled when I was told by my carrier that RISE was "in network" and I followed Matt. He is terrific! In addition to really making a difference, I love that he explains everything he is doing. He encourages me to ask questions so as to better understand what he is doing and how it is impacting my recovery. In contrast to my previous facility, RISE allows Matt to spend my time working with me. He is not juggling 2 - 3 patients at a time. I have had a wonderful experience all the way around. Setting up appointments and receiving reminders from someone with terrific and professional customer service is something I really appreciate. I can't recommend RISE and Matt more! I had no problem getting my first appointment, the gal I spoke to on the phone was friendly, and took my information, and was scheduled for the next day. When I went in for my appointment, I noticed the clinic was an open space, with some exercise equipment, and a series of metal cages along the wall with patients doing all sorts of exercises in them. When I mentioned the cages, David, who was to be my physical therapist, remarked on how well I'd get to know those cages. He explained that we would be using them a lot, and he would show me how to replicate them at home. He was true to his word! The cages are great! The therapists are great too! I worked with David for a number of sessions, and never felt better. I got to know another patient who was seeing a different therapist there, and she had nothing but good things to say about RISE. I have had chronic pain for a number of years, and David was reassuring and moved at a pace that I was comfortable with. Matt H at the El Cajon Rise PT was AMAZING! I made the switch to Matt at Rise after a few frustrating sessions with another company. Matt listened to my goals, tailored my recovery to meet those goals, and spent over 30 minutes of hands-on soft tissue massage/cupping/scraping with each session. I never felt rushed during sessions or like his focus was on anyone but me (night & day comparison to my previous PT experience). After listening to my goals he thought outside the box to give me exercises I wouldn't find in a book or any other cookie-cutter mold. I was referred to Rise Physical Therapy after a complicated migraine with stroke like symptoms and vestibular testing didn't have result but yet was having balance issues. Upon first meeting with Kieran as my therapist, she took a lot of time to methodically walk through a history of not only the medical information she had but about me and what I have experienced over time with all of this. Including how was I before, she wanted a whole picture, which I really appreciated. So as time went she measured my balance and began training therapies that helped us to determine where we needed to build strength and where there were definite cognitive/visual/vestibular issues. Kieran also was a very considerate listener when i was having off days due to migraine or other health items. She would readjust to accommodate for that visit and continue to build on. She was also assisted by interns for some of the time, which was great to see her sharing her knowledge/skill and helping new PTs learn too. She (and the interns) has provided me with a set of 'tools', I call them, to help me to continue with my balance and continue get stronger/stay on track. One goal was to be able to get back out on rocks at beach and not fall, and that was achieved. Made me so happy to be able to do that again. I suffer with inoperable cervical radiculopathy along with sciatica, along with a few other physical issues, to the point of having been unable to move for seven months at one time. I have muscle wasting in my hands and have been through many Physical Therapy sessions at other places in the past, BUT, since being referred to RISE by my Neurologist, I will never go anyplace else. Since my first session with Matt, I have regained feeling in my hands and am able to stretch without any paresthesia. He knows exactly what he is doing and if I have the slightest pain, he listens to what I am saying, he attacks the area he suspects it may be located and knocks it out. My range of motion has increased greatly since attending RISE. I have been able to relearn how to walk and sit properly, without any fear of extreme pain resulting. I've visited Matt a few times for my back, neck, and knee problems. He is very knowledgeable and explains everything so that you can understand why your body is hurting, why the correction is necessary, and how it will help in the future. After Matt worked on my knees I am now able to run 5 miles a day with no pain and suffering. My neck and back was very stiff and Matt explained which muscles were causing the pain and stiffness and how to alleviate and stretch out those targeted muscles, after a few weeks of treatment, my golf game has significantly improved and I've shaved 6 stroked off my handicap!! I will definitely be visiting Rise again, hopefully not soon, but whenever I need physical therapy needs, Matt is my first choice! read more

I have been a patient at RISE Physical Therapy for approximately 6 months and I highly recommend them! Matt Hemphill is an exceptional physical therapist and it is clear how knowledgeable he is in his field. I was suffering from chronic back and neck pain that impacted the majority of my day to day activities. Matt was able to diagnose and treat the causes of this frequent discomfort, ultimately relieving my symptoms by strengthening key areas of the body rather than implementing quick fixes. He has been excellent at explaining the key issues that impact by back/neck, given me effective stretches and exercises to do at home to improve strength and conditioning outside of routine visits, and has succeeded in making my lower back and neck feeling better than it has in a long time. As a former athlete, Matt understands the need to remedy old injuries while keeping the body strong and fluid to deter new ones which are especially important as one gets older. I would recommend RISE Physical Therapy, especially Matt Hemphill, to anyone seeking physical therapy that is reliable and works.
