Both the waffle and biscuit are the same price on the a la carte menu, but I can't substitute The only option I was give. Was to order the waffle on the side, essentially making me pay for, then throw away a biscuit I ever wanted. I opted to just get a waffle. Oh, and do not order the tea!!! It's literally an 8oz mug of hot water and a tea bag. For $3 you could buy a whole box. I understand that they gotta make profits but that's a bit much. Coffee is cheaper!! Not impressed. Went here for a brunch on a Saturday. The first thing I noticed is the beautiful decor, I loved all their light fixtures, and all the servers had their own funky style going on. I ordered the pineapple melon drink and the breakfast flatbread, and my husband got the frittata ensalada plus a side of sausage patties. The melon drink was delicious and refreshing. The frittata was a bit boring, all the bacon was in one area. The sausage tasted great! I loved the taste of the flatbread, especially the hummus, but it was awkward and hard to eat. Even after being given a steak knife after struggling with it, my opinion is it would be better broken down into a flatbread, toasted; hummus, and two eggs. That way the flatbread wouldn't get soggy. I definitely want to revisit this place. I feel that it is a much cleaner, more fun alternative to some other breaky places in the area. read more

I go here to eat with a friend every so often, and we enjoy a traditional breakfast every time. The homemade jams are a hit, and it always serves as the filler to our biscuits, that basically become desserts for our breakfast. Hey, it's ok to splurge every now and then! This is one of those places that really make me wish I could give a half star! It really deserves more than 3, but not quite a solid 4 star either. Unfortunately, I'm leaning a little closer to the 3 star, so I've gone with that. A lot of what I enjoy about this place is the decor and atmosphere. It is very clean, chic, and a nice mix of modern and warm. Unfortunately the food and service have just been OK in my two experiences here. Service-wise, both times my servers have been difficult to flag down, leaving my husband and I with empty coffees for long periods of time. Not usually a big deal, but they have an eclectic mug collection and ours were TINY, thus needing to be refilled more often than usual. During this weekend's visit we also didn't receive silverware or plates for a shared plate we ordered, and it took a while to get anyone to bring it. The food is fine. I've had a few items here and haven't been unhappy, but haven't found anything particularly worth glowing about either. I built a plate of chicken and waffles last time. The chicken is pretty good but the waffle was soft and soggy. Overall, it is a nice place to grab brunch and I may be back, but with all of the brunch options in Atlanta, it doesn't quite hold up as a favorite. read more

Decided to go for lunch and ended up with breakfast. We always have to have the Hashed Out ($11 and huge) and the new item of the visit was the waffle ($4). The Hashed Out had the perfect blend of potatoes, sausage, bacon, onion, and jalapeño and we got the pico and the sour cream on the side. The serving size is huge. We split it and came home with as much as we ate. Made great left over tacos...hint, hint, hint. Maybe they should go on the menu as they were a total hit. Now for the waffle. We asked that it not have the powdered sugar dusted on top and again...no problem. Really love the attitude of no problem. That is service. We also shared the waffle and brought half home with us. And I might add we agreed that it was the best waffle we have ever had. Service was some of the best around. Prices were so very reasonable. The atmosphere has a very cool vibe. But the food is the winner. Am planning our return trip and will try the biscuits with sausage gravy. Can't wait to return. Highly recommend. Helpful hint. We loved this place! The food is fresh and delicious. There are meat eater options and vegetarian AND vegan options. The owners have a farm at which they grow some of their vegetables. Our waitress was amazing, so friendly, and shared the story of the business. She also made a suggestion for a substitute to a breakfast sandwich I ordered. I am a vegetarian and she suggested green fried tomatoes over the breakfast meat patty. Not only is the food great, but the restaurant is super cute. This is a highly lauded restaurant in Avondale Estates. It's right down the street from my office so I decided to try it for lunch. Twice. It wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible. The first time I went, I had the cheeseburger. It wasn't great, but I ordered no pickles and when I got it, I didn't realize that it had pickle on it. It made it taste extremely fishy. Last week, I went and had the fried chicken with a side of cheese grits. The cheese grits were no where near the best I've had in Atlanta. They weren't creamy and soupy enough, and the cheese was a bit overwhelming. But...that chicken. OMG. Best fried chicken I've had in a long time. I'll be back for that fried chicken. read more

I got here about 1:50 even though I saw they closed at 230 hoping they wouldn't mind since I was only a party of one and they definitely didn't. Everyone was friendly enough and greeted me. Wanted to be more wowed than I was. Friend & I came in for Sunday brunch a few weeks ago. No wait, sat at end of bar... in front of some glasses holding fresh herbs for drink garnishes. We watched a family of flies get it on, perched on top of the mint. Kind of gross. Uurrrkkk. The Campari drink I had - no garnish!!! - was perfect as a not-too-sweet recommendation from the bartender. We split the chorizo tacos & the biscuits with tomato gravy. Tacos were decent. Biscuits were good but the tomato gravy was too acidic, runny, and didn't have enough flour/cream to be true tomato gravy. Hello citric acid, goodbye esophagus & tooth enamel! Ducked in here at 2:00 pm on a Saturday and there was no wait (maybe because they close at 3:00 pm). Food came out lightening fast and was delicious! I had the C.B.C.B. - chicken, bacon, cheddar, biscuit, which was two giant hunks of perfectly-fried chicken breast, two pieces of bacon, dripping cheddar cheese on biscuit. It was amazing, though I had to disassemble it to fit into my mouth. My husband had the flatbread (which came out round, like a personal pizza, not a rectangular flatbread) with arugula, sunny-side up eggs, hummus, onions, feta, etc., and it was amazing. They make their own sodas, have vegetarian/vegan options, and a real stuffed fox because taxidermy is cool again, although I don't know why it ever was. The waffle is pretty good. It's a regular size waffle, not Belgian, but crispy and they give you real maple syrup. The biscuit is BIG and delicious. 3-4 stars for brunch - have tried several items off this menu and must say the range & quality keeps us returning. 2-stars (or below) for dinner - ran into a friend in the restaurant who was also there for the first time (for dinner) and who'd heard good things about the meat & 3, which was what I went with. Not sure if it was a bad day in the kitchen, but the chicken was over-fried, collard greens too sweet and overall was just overpriced for what I had. Might be acceptable if it was a slap-together meal at the local diner or all-u-can-eat Southern dinner tray line - but you definitely expect more for the price & setting. With Bishop closed, we so want this place to succeed as it'd be nice for this junction to have a thriving restaurant/bar hub. It'd have to bring its dinner performance up to par with its brunch for us to patronize it again though. read more

A good brunch place overall! We came in on a Saturday morning - parking was a bit difficult to find and the restaurant had a 20 minute wait. We ordered their hibiscus lime soda, the CBCB (chicken biscuit), and the vegan grits bowl. The soda was too sugary and had a high content of syrup and ginger in it. We ended up splitting the soda into two glasses and diluting it with water. Would not recommend for people who do not like ginger! I had the chicken biscuit - the chicken was well cooked and well seasoned! The biscuit was fluffy and the melted cheddar finished it off nicely! The only thing that I would change would be the bacon - it was a little too thick and hard to chew. My boyfriend ordered the vegan grits bowl. The vegetables were grilled well, and the combination of the different veggies provided a good flavor profile. We were very pleased by our visit to Rising Son for Sunday Brunch. Located in the heart of Avondale Estates, it is surprisingly hip for its quiet neighborhood, and it provides a much-needed trendy but elevated dining option for this charming corner of Atlanta. We were immediately impressed by the ambiance and decor- it's a small, cozy restaurant, with lots of natural light and interesting artwork. The brunch menu is small but innovative, and there were several vegetarian options I would have been excited to try. I settled on the flatbread- a toasted pita, smeared with hummus and topped with salad, olives, pepperoncini, and over-easy eggs. It was good with a slightly Mediterranean flavor profile. She had the Kickstart, their version of a two-egg breakfast. The menu says no modifications to brunch items, but our nice waitress subbed out bacon for some absolutely delicious hash browns with no issue. It also came with scrambled eggs, tasty white grits and a huge crispy but chewy biscuit. Although the food was good, I will venture to say that their simple but well-executed brunch cocktail menu really made our experience great. I started with a well-seasoned Bloody Mary and she had a refreshing Paloma. We followed that up with an elegant French 75 for her and a delightful Old Friend for me, a mix of gin, grapefruit, Campari and St. Germain. We loved having the option of ordering several different cocktails with our meal, instead of the usual old mimosa. Had an amazing brunch here today. Delicious, hearty, without the sticks-to-your-rib feeling, generously portioned breakfast selections with some Southern inspirations. I had the Shrimp and Grits, a brilliantly composed dish which excited every part of my tongue. Typical bold and savory shrimp flavors were perfectly balanced by tangy sweet heat from layers of pickled jalapenos, a bit of celery, and coca cola BBQ sauce (that was sweet but not too sweet). The shrimps were a healthy size, plentiful, and prepared well. In fact, the shrimp cookery outperformed that of some upscale seafood restaurants I've recently patronized. Also, gluttony worked out in my favor as I also ordered a side of crispy hash browns on a whim.
