There's street parking in front, but it's almost always full. Luckily, there's a free parking lot located behind the building, so parking is easy and plentiful. There was no wait for a table when I arrived, but I arrived shortly before the brunch rush. I recommend coming a little earlier (like around 10 am) if you want to be seated quicker. We ordered the egg rolls as an appetizer because I was curious on how they would execute egg rolls as a breakfast dish. I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it - the syrup was a weird concept, but it works really well! Portion sizes are huuuge here. I got the Hashed Out and there was enough for leftovers the next day. The table next to me got the biscuits, which are made in house, and they looked pretty tasty. I recently popped into Rising son for some ice coffee. The environment was very nice and inviting. They were pretty busy but we're still able to assist me. The coffee was amazing! I've been a big fan of Rising Son since its first year in business. Great brunch spot with a perfectly curated cocktail menu and solid vegetarian entrees for my partner. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but I can never get enough of the ginger pork dumplings; they're an appetizer that really steal the show! After introducing my parents to the place years ago, it's become my mom's first pick for her birthday brunch (followed by a shopping trip to Kudzu, of course). The menu and atmosphere are eloquent enough for a special occasion, but it's not so expensive/high-end that I can't visit more casually with friends. Shoutout to the staff for always being wonderful. I love the Avondale Estates area and was really looking forward to checking out Rising Son. It's a brunch spot in the heart of Avondale Estates and while I thought parking would be difficult on a Saturday morning, I found public street parking pretty easily. I met with a few foodie friends and we had a slight wait before getting seated in the back of the restaurant. Our server was nice and helpful. My coffee was ok - I wish I had gotten the iced coffee because it sounded delicious on the menu but it was a little chilly outside so I opted for hot. The hot coffee was just ok. I ordered the breakfast burger with fries and we split the breakfast dumplings. Overall, the breakfast burger wasn't bad. Meat was cooked well, although a little bland. The egg was perfectly runny! The breakfast dumplings on the other hand were a bit more interesting. The fusion didn't work for me - and I wasn't sure what exactly was being "fusioned". From the dry pork filling to the maple glaze... it was a very unique combination, for sure. Rising Son was a little of a disappointment for brunch, but I wouldn't mind giving them another try for lunch or dinner! EDIT: after the response I got from the owner on my review, I probably won't come back. Awesome experience dining here I have always heard great things about this place so I decided to check them out. I was able to park in the lot right next to Rising Son. We had to have our names placed on the waitlist We were told wait time was 30-40 mins. We decided to venture off to neighboring stores to kill time and in like 20 mins our buzzer went off letting us know our table was ready. We were seated and our waitress was awesome Our waitress answered all our questions and offered suggestions. I ordered shrimp and grits and my cousin ordered the fish and grits both very delicious. What a wonderful brunch spot! Came here last weekend with my husband. We came on Saturday morning around 9:15. They open at 9, but there were already quite a few people there. Our waitress and nice and attentive. We started with coffees. They have a pretty basic coffee selection - hot coffee and iced coffee. I don't think they had espresso drinks. All of the menu looked amazing. We decided to stick to the basics and got the bacon, egg and cheese biscuit (the biscuit sammy) and the cbcb (the fried chicken biscuit). It was all amazing! The biscuits were very large! The chicken biscuit was especially so much food! We also ordered a side of the sausage gravy. It was delicious! The chicken was so tender and flavorful. Oh. I immediately fell in love with this place. Every good thing you've heard about Rising Son is true. Rising Son is all about excellent, hearty food. It's about community. It's about sourcing foods locally, and serving them with alacrity. But more importantly, Rising Son seems to be about blue-collar comfort. It's casual. It's wonderful. The owners are a husband/wife team that have been doing their own thing here for a couple of years. They grown their own herbs and a good bit of the produce that goes into their dishes. You'll find things like fried trout with cheese grits, chicken pot pie, biscuits, frittatas, and a dish called "Hashed Out" (sausage, bacon, onion, pickled jalapeño, pico, cheddar, sour cream). Phenomenally good. Many people seemed to like the "Kickstart," (two eggs, bacon, grits, biscuit). I had the C.B.C.B. (fried chicken, bacon, cheddar, biscuit). With a side of sausage gravy. Holy moly. This thing was hands down delicious--an exercise in all good things Southern, comfort food, breakfast, and decadent all rolled into one. I demolished it with glee. The fresh-squeezed orange juice was a perfect accompaniment. And the chocolate chip cookies with ice cream was a total crowd-pleaser. In our latest visit, we chose to order the house soda. This time it was a tarragon and cinnamon soda. Light, refreshing, and lightly herbal, it was perfect. Past visits, we've tried other house sodas of the day such as cucumber cilantro soda. Also great! For food, we tired an appetizer of fried green tomatoes. Perfectly crisp outside and tender inside, the well-seasoned tomatoes come with a delicious house herb ranch. For our entrees, my wife ordered her go-to trout with grits and I had the spicy chicken sandwich. Both are delicious! You know the dish is good when the grits don't disappear in the background and are tasty enough to be an equal partner with the crisp and delicious fish. The spicy chicken sandwich is huge! Lots of lean, perfectly fried chicken breast meat on a fluffy onion-style bun. My only heads up would be that it's not really spicy, in my opinion. My experiences at Rising Son have consisted of huge portions of: Fluffy, tender biscuits, creamy grits, crunchy/cripsy fried chicken and fish, paired with good cocktails, coffee, and a few specialty condiments -- Seriously there are biscuit places in the Atlanta and the rest of the south that can not touch the ones at Rising Son. I don't know what magical transition period we arrive it but there literally was no wait and we got our choice of outside tables! I have been here three times in the last 2 years. 2 out of those 3 times I had HAIR COOKED INTO MY FOOD. First time was a long hair in beautiful looking biscuit...second time was a take out order and was decent, but then the third time -which was also take out, hello covidtimes- I got a curly hair in my sausage patty. It's so unfortunate that this place is not better quality. It has a bit of a monopoly over the neighborhood. Its tasty food!! I just wish it WAS CLEAN AND TASTY. It's just not. I've also heard first hand that the staff isn't treated well. As a wife of a someone in the food prepping industry, I can't get behind that kind of behavior or carelessness. I don't even know how to begin describing my experience at Rising Son. My friend and I were seated promptly and ordered drinks first. First try, pineapple mimosa. No pineapple juice. No prob. Maybe a grapefruit mimosa? Oooops no more grapefruit juice. No big deal. My friend ordered the fried chicken sandwich with no bacon- she doesn't eat pork. No prob! The waiter suggested a fried green tomato instead- perfect! I ordered the vegan grit bowl, which I would soon come to regret. The food arrived and there was bacon on my friend's plate and no fried green tomato. Ugh. But she didn't want to complain so we tucked into the food. I took maybe 1 bite? The 2nd bite felt like it went down the wrong way so I took a drink of water. My mouth instantly fills with water, nothing is going down, but I can't process that it's blocked. Take another drink and start to panic. My friend is like - omg are you ok? I spit food/water out into my napkin and realize I can't breathe. Literally start banging my chest & my friend immediately gets behind me and starts doing the Heimlich. I make eye contact w/bartender and see him shout "someone's choking!" I see waiters and patrons watching. After about 3/4 heimlichs I felt a huge release & started coughing. Friend and I sit. I don't recall anyone in the heat of the moment saying a word. Restaurant life continued. I went to the bathroom, crying. Cleaned up, called my husband as I'm sitting on the bathroom floor crying. Go back to the table and try to sip water and calm down. My covered plate/mess is still there. Eventually a different server asked if I was finished. Um. Yeah. Im done. No manager ever checked on me, asked if I needed anything, waiter didn't even ask to refill my water!!!... It was an awful awful awful experience to say the least. As we were leaving, after paying full price, the waiter says "have a good weekend! Try not to get all choked up!". I just.... Seriously??? My husband was furious. Called the restaurant and balled them out for their complete negligence. The owner basically told him they "aren't responsible for every bite of food your wife eats" and when my husband got really pissed, the owner (or manager, not sure) told him he could come down and fight him like a man. How can you not feel positively about a place with a colorful logo reminiscent of the 70s painted on the glass, succulents on the sill, and fork door handle? Luckily the food and service were laudable too. Service from Bob was attentive and friendly and helpful. Country music twanged in the background. Feeling a more lighter breakfast, I opted for the Biscuit Sammy. Biscuit Sammy ($6): This was a generous biscuit, filled with cheddar-fied scrambled eggs and bacon. The biscuit wasn't super buttery-tasting (just how I like 'em personally), but it held up decently and was very fresh and pillowy. The eggs were not runny nor rubbery and were ultra cheesy which I approved of. Eggs and cheese were scrambled together. Bacon was fine, though I wouldn't complain if more were added (about 1.5 strips in there). The plate was a little wobbly, not a huge deal. Find parking on the street right in front as well as behind the building. There were some other neat-seeming establishments on this corner block in Avondale Estates. Will return. Let's just say this review is over due. My sister recommended this place and I eat here at least once a week (if not more). I always get chicken and waffles so I cannot tell you about anything else on the menu. My meal is always fulfilling. The price is reasonable. Every time I go I have a 5 experience.
