The greeting from the minute you entered the quaint bistro type feel spot was very inviting. Sits on main road Avondale, looks like a picture of old town USA! My server penny was Also just as inviting. Attire like a speak easy joint, including cap! Was happy to see they serve drinks, it's after 5 somewhere! Weekends they serve a brunch menu. OMGGGG they're food is bussssinnn! I ordered food for pickup from Rising Son on Sunday around 2pm, and I was surprised by how good the food was. I chose the place because of the raving reviews on Yelp and the pictures that matched Let's just say you won't regret it. I wish my food was hot but I mean I did order takeout so I can't be mad, I heated it when I got home. I ordered the fish and grits and my bf had the chorizo tacos which he loved. Definitely next time we will make the decision to eat inside to get the full experience. Got the flatbread and it was doughy and undercooked. The spring mix on it was not fresh, there was a bad leaf in it. Very bland. The only thing it shares with flatbread was the fact that it was flat. Lacked any sort of character. Looks like my five year old made it. read more

I love their Fried Green Tomatoes and curry bowl. They offer a wide variety of healthy, vegan, vegetarian friendly options. Their coffee is great too. They have indoor and outdoor seating available. Great for brunch and to take your furry friends too. The staff is very accommodating and polite. They're visible from regular traffic, there is some parking on the street and more behind the building. It is in the heart of Avondale and has plenty of cute shops around. Popped in for a quick brunch/lunch around 1pm and it was very empty. We were seated immediately. I ordered the CBCB, which is a fried chicken and biscuit sandwich with bacon and cheese. Soooooo good!!!! Biscuit = just plain old delicious. Chicken = lightly fried, crunchy outside but juicy inside, well seasoned. Bacon = cooked through and crisp, but not overly hard or crunchy. After a few years of living near RS, finally made it a point to try it! Came here for lunch on Sunday and was seated fairly quickly (had maybe a 10 minute wait at the most in their cute lil' waiting area). We ended up getting the C.B.C.B., Breakfast Dumplings, and Catfish & Grits (normally Trout & Grits). For beverages we had fresh pineapple juice and Topo Chico. The food came out quickly, and all at the same time. The catfish was fried perfectly - flakey on the inside and crispy on the outside, and the grits were smooth and cheesy. The C.B.C.B. and dumplings were delicious as well. Parking is plentiful behind the premises, in addition to the parking in front of the row. The prices were slightly different from the online menu than on the ones in store ($1 differences), so not a huge deal but just as a heads up. I can't say anything bad about this establishment. The foooooooddd was absolutely amazing,perfect and flavorful. I ordered fish and grits for me and Kickstart for my daughter. The waitstaff was great and super patient. We did have a 20 min wait to be seated. The food came out pretty fast don't think we had to wait no more that 10 mins. Just guessing. The establishment does practice social distancing and I really enjoyed how they had hand sanitizer already on the tables. The mimosa was good a fruit beware it will sneak up on you. Parking is pretty crazy due to the establishment being in the heart of Avondale Estates and there are several establishments in that specific area. Do I recommend this place? Yesssss I do. First time! Great spot in Downtown Decatur. Parking is limited in the front but you can park behind the building. Bartender was very friendly and gave great recommendations. Fish and grits do come with eggs if you would like. Fish was cooked perfectly and grits had great flavor. I usually prefer a sauce with my fish and grits but the dish was so amazing it wasn't needed (they do have the option of a Coca-Cola BBQ that you can add but bartender said it's really sweet). Customer service was great! I enjoyed the dumplings and the fried green tomatoes. My cousin had a bacon egg and cheese biscuit which she really enjoyed. I tasted some and the biscuit was made to perfection and it was HUGE! They also had pineapple and apple jelly which were both fresh and nice additions to the biscuit. I got the hash as my meal and it truly left a lot to be desired. It was super dry, I guess over cooked. I could barely find the bacon and sausage and the cheese was definitely over cooked. Like the has was clumpy. Not sure if they bake it or what but if so, it was over baked. I would not recommend it at all. The entire place gets 10/10, the staff was very friendly and the wait wasn't too long. They have outside seating and indoor seating. It's spacious and feels comfortable enough to sit down and enjoy a mimosa or a chicken sandwich. The food was outstanding! The portions are a very nice size. The drinks are lovely and the staff again is mad friendly and helpful. I couldn't finish all my food due to the large portions. Based on multiple visits April and May 2021. As early as April 2021, they had full dining inside, but Yelp! or Google may be going off old info when they say "outdoor only." This place is very diligent about Covid protocols, by the way. Summary: Great breakfast/brunch place, especially for mornings when you want to be outside. One of my two favorite ATL breakfast places when the weather is warm (Bread & Butterfly being the other). Food: Chicken/Biscuit sandwich is really good but way too large. Chorizo tacos are an appropriate size (satisfying but won't weigh you down first thing in the morning). You can get gravy as a side--really good. Food leans on the healthier and more refined side. Vibe: Really nice residential vibe (a nice escape from metro ATL). Like Canton Street in Roswell, but not as busy. Similar to downtown to Decatur as well. Perfect on a sunny morning, but they also have table umbrellas if it's too much for you. Also, Bess Walker Park--one of my favorite places in/around all of Atlanta--is a two-minute drive away. Neither was good to me. I always say, if you cook bagged food (frozen), it needs to be HOT when you serve it, to make up for the food not being fresh. Neither was hot, or well seasoned. The tomatoes had the texture of frozen food. I did eat the batter off the tomatoes, but not the tomatoes. I also am fed up with restaurants, with online presence, not updating their social media. In particular, when the prices on the website don't match the price you are charged in the restaurant. 50 Cent, dollar, or whatever the amount, the correct price is important. We love having brunch! So we decided to visit downtown Avondale Estates, try different restaurants.. we ran into Rising Son and I immediately yelped the reviews.. and decided to check it out ! Make sure to try their homemade strawberry syrup !! They know how to do grits the right way - creamy with no lumps and cheesey. Any dish with grits, you can't go wrong. I really enjoyed the chorizo tacos today too, so much flavor in the meat, and the salsa and sour cream takes it over the top. Corn tortillas are just the best. Rising Son also has such great, big, and soft biscuits with homemade pineapple jelly concoction. And we got fried green tomatoes, which are some of the best I've had, especially with the greenish sauce it comes with. I don't know how they do it, but when you cut into the tomato, the breading still stays attached to the tomato, and it's the right amount of breading and crispiness. We just love brunch here, especially on the weekdays when it's less busy. Service has always been average to above average. Steven was extra nice today and definitely above average. This restaurant is extremely cute! It's small, therefore I wouldn't recommend coming with a large crowd. I ordered the shrimp and grits and the best way to describe it is, unique. At first bite I absolutely hated them. The shrimp is cooked with a BBQ sauce that makes everything extremely sweet, in my opinion. Once I added some hot sauce, the dish was edible. Now, on to our service/server, she was unnecessary. That's honestly the best way to explain it. She gave us this uninterested attitude the entire time. Very impressive and definitely makes me want to visit again. Now onto the food, which was as equally phenomenal as the service. I had the Enchiladas and Eggs as well as the Fried Green Tomatoes (I was hungry). The Enchiladas and Eggs were AWESOME!! Like best thing I ate all week awesome - like an eat-everyday type dish. Damn, they were good. The Fried Green Tomatoes were more croquettish than I like but they were still pretty tasty. The decor and ambiance of this place is cool too.
