I'm not one to write bad reviews, but I had to share the way Francisco handled business yesterday. I had to come by early to drop off my car before work, but Francisco didn't come in until 08:45am, so I had to wait outside his shop for an hour. He told me he'd call me to let me know what he'd find wrong with my car. I waited til almost 1pm and didn't receive a call. I called the shop, and Francisco told me the cars been ready and he went ahead and fixed everything that needed to be fixed already, even without telling me. I told him he should've called first because I could've easily done most of the things he went ahead and fixed. I've never met a mechanic who just fixed everything and charged all the labor and parts without authorization from the car owner first. I'm sure he's got loyal customers who'll come back, but for new customers, just be aware that this could happen to you too. read more

I was having an issue where my gas pedal would stop working intermittently. Francisco came up with a few solutions for it, fixed it to the best of his ability, and returned it. After a day of driving it around just fine, the problem returned. Francisco felt so bad, he took a look at it again (now that an error code had appeared), and executed another series of fixes while waiving labor charges. After the problem returned a third time, he diagnosed computer and transmission module failures, and proceeded to replace them free of any charge! Ultimately, I needed a completely new transmission as well, but I found Francisco and the Rising Sun staff to be reliable and stand by their work. Several months ago, I needed my parking shifter fixed for my Acura Integra. I was referred to Frank by a family friend who has been going to Frank for over a decade. I had an idea that certain components needed to be replaced/cleaned and re-greased so that my parking mechanism didn't lock, causing my key to lock in the ignition when I turned it off on cold days. Here is where Frank is great. After getting cost estimates, I was ready to spend $150 to $250 for parts + labor to POSSIBLY get it fixed from other auto repair shops. Frank wasn't exactly sure what would be the best solution, so what does he do? He goes with the safest and cheapest solution which was to disable the parking shift-lock before replacing components and totaling removing the control panel. I don't know if it's the correct term but it basically makes you press the brake pedal before shifting in and out of park. He charged me $25 for labor to re-grease the shift mechanism and unlock the component (sorry that I don't know the correct terms). It worked! No more key ignition lock problems. Frank is honest, first and foremost, and doesn't take advantage of you. This is an example that Frank is mindful of keeping costs down to save you money. Even if this solution didn't work, I would still give him 5 stars because this experience made me feel that Frank is a guy you can trust won't try to take advantage of you financially. I would tell frank that that car maintenance at the dealer said I would need new this and that ..and he would tell me straight up that I do not need it right now. Francisco is the best mechanic I have ever known and that is a long history! And his protégé' Orlando, is a Smart, warm hearted, great spirited kid who is destined to provide excellence to your future grandkids cars! I have seen Francisco take a failing car, and with a midas touch, he cleans it really good. Then he tells the customer to go drive it around and if they still have the issue to come back, He didn't charge anything. And they didn't come back! Please do not confuse Frank (Asian) and Francisco (Hispanic). I knew Francisco, the NEW owner of rising sun when I was 16 yrs. old, and he was in the same plaza! Back then he and his partner Ali would perform miracles on any car I had, for whatever budget i could afford. He worked on my 1st cars and i hope he or Orlando will work on my last. When Francisco left 7444 Reseda I was lost... For years my father and I would fix whatever we could and get gouged when we couldn't do it ourselves. Frank (previous owner) was my dads mechanic when he was a young man back in culver city! And when he moved from to Reseda my dad and I brought all of our cars and referred him to everyone. Frank was a god send for nearly a decade, but his last years, frank there, were a wolf in sheep's clothing. I was losing faith. I now have 2 cars because 1 was not enough to guarantee daily transportation. My wife who is less trusting and wiser than me, chose a bit of neglect over letting Frank work on her car. Every car in Franks opinion was now a "Piece of $#!+" (but not his 30 yr old beat up truck with 400k miles). When I came to him with my 2001 Focus with 29K original miles, and in perfect shape he said "what a waste of money" and he didn't ask how much it cost. He even said to me, "Why you not a buy new car?". A mechanic, telling you to buy a new car?!?! Well confusing as it was, my last months of Frank were BAAADDD. I spent almost $1000 replacing the brake system, part by part, on my CRX (which I could have gotten 4 wheel disc for less). My Dads PT cruiser kept overheating and part by part Frank weaseled almost $5000 (which could have bought a new engine or even another PT). We love those cars so we paid, but we still had problems. When Francisco took over, he was outraged (and you will never see Francisco angry). His investigation discovered a 20$ hose that was leaking. My dad only needed a thermostat, frank lied that he replaced that first. And we are almost certain that we can contribute the transmission failure of my wifes Lexus to him (partly because I found a paper clip in the Diagnostic port and it appeared it was transmission code related, and the fluid was so mysteriously awful any other mechanic would have insisted we flush it). Francisco is unlike any mechanic you ever met. He is not in this for the money. He has a moral code you don't find in anyone today. I wish he were also an accountant and a lawyer! And I'm not endorsing that he will help everyone, but if you are desperate for transportation and your car is too far gone, He might sell you one of his cars or help to find you a good used car at a great price! I think one of Franciscos philosophys is that mechanically clean cars run better, and older cars can be more reliable than newer ones, with the proper care. This place is the shop I trust to take my car to! I was having trouble with my Audi so I took it to get diagnosed at a different location and they said I needed a new sensor for my car which would have cost over 1k to get fixed which was something I couldn't afford. I decided to call different mechanics to see how much they charged for replacing a sensor on an Audi. I called raising sun asking for the cost and they ended up being the most affordable. I went to Orlando and he straight up told me I didn't need to replace my sensor and that the problem with my car was that I needed to replace a damaged spark plug that was causing the misfires on my car.
