It was suggested I go to a Toyota Specialist by my mechanic because we couldn't get one of the monitors to flip to ready for a SMOG check. The man at Service Lex didn't listen to what I was saying... actually ROLLED his eyes at me and said to "just keep driving." I explained that my mechanic had driven it for a week and had taken it to the SMOG station next door, but Service Lex refused to listen. He also recommended paying for a Toyota model gas cap because the ones from Auto Zone are subpar... really? This man obviously didn't want to talk to a woman and sent me on my way. I have been bringing my 2012 IS 250 for the past seven or eight years to ServiceLex. Until last year, I was very satisfied with Carlo's service. I brought my car for a routine oil change last September (2023) and all went fine , but toward the end of the oil change Carlo and his assistant started telling me about carbon build up problems in GDI engines and how it is inevitable and how it could cost me over $3,000. I was shocked and angry to hear this just then since I had been having Carlo service my IS 250 for 6 years and only then (2023), he tells me this. Before September 2023, Carlo had told me every time I brought my car to him that I could count on it lasting at least 200,000 miles (at minimal maintenance cost) as long as I did the scheduled maintenance, which I had been doing. After he saw my frustration, he then said there would be another option that would cost about $600. I found this disturbing because he should have led with that option and not only mention it after he saw my annoyed reaction. After CARLO told me this, I did extensive research into carbon buildup in GDI engines, and he has a point. But he was wrong in making me worry since there are symptoms of GDI carbon buildup including decreased fuel economy, misfires and knocking. My car runs great and has none of those symptoms, which I told Carlo during this most recent oil change. Just last week, I brought my IS 250 to Carlo to have a routine oil change at just 3,250 miles since the last oil change. (As I said, I take care of my car.) His assistant did the oil change while Carlo was on his computer, so I dealt with the assistant only, which I was not happy with. His assistant told me that my left rear strut was leaking and may need to be replaced. I asked him to show me the leak and I didn't see anything! I overheard him mention it to Carlo and Carlo didn't even address it with me while I was talking to Carlo when I went in to his office to pay the bill. Either the assistant didn't know what he was talking about or he was trying to have me replace the strut. I don't know what his intentions were, but I found his behavior suspicious. After I left ServiceLex II researched this so-called "strut leak" and based on Monroe shocks' website a small amount of "WEEPAGE" along a strut is normal and not a problem! Hopefully, Carlo told his assistant that some leakage is normal and that's why Carlo didn't mention it to me. I would hope that the assistant was NOT deliberately trying to mislead me to spend unnecessary money on a new strut. Nonetheless, based on my last two visits to Servicelex, I have concerns about their service. I had thought I had found a reliable mechanic for my 2012 IS 250 but now feel forced to question him. You may ask why I brought my car back to him again last week (Aug 2024). I brought my car back to him because I don't know of anyone else to bring my car to and all I needed was an oil change, and the car is running well so I wouldn't actually need him to do anything major. I have a 2013 Lexus RX450h with 200,000+ miles and my water pump was leaking. After taking it to several repair shops for bids and assessments. I decided to use ServiceLex. I'm pretty overdue for a review, but I think now is the right time since everyone has been raving about this service shop. I went to ServiceLex on July 19, 2019 because my LS 460 had the engine light on. Carlos did a diagnostic and found out that the catalytic converters need to be replaced soon. However, he did not have after-market converters, and asked me if I wanted Lexus factory converters instead. First of all, why would I go to an independent shop in the first place just to get my parts replaced with new factory parts? It kind of defeats the purpose of having a budget. We then both agreed that he would give me a call once he gets the converters restocked (as of February 24, 2020, I have not received a single call). On top of that, he charged me $50 for a simple computer diagnostic test, which every other independent shop can run for free! I got the catalytic converters replaced (California approved) at a much cheaper labor and part rate than ServiceLex at a different independence shop. I will never come back here to have my Lexus repaired ever again. read more

Bought a used 2012 lexus ISF 250 with 80k in miles and needed a tune up. Not only did they thoroughly looked over my car, but they told me what I need and what I didn't need. After that, I knew Carlo was a good mechanic that could be trusted. Going to the dealership/stealership all my life with past cars, they could of easily took advantage and rip me off, but didn't. They not only recommend what my car need and didn't need, but they answered all my internet based concerns I had about the car. For example, I was concerned about the carbon build up because the forums claimed my car was well known for that issue, so Carlo and his assistant Nick checked the throttle body for free. Carlo even showed me how to use the infotainment app to help me maintain my car. We also looked at the spark plugs together and showed me I didn't need new ones. That was the best part of it all. I had numerous questions and not only did they answer it, but they let me look over the shoulder as they worked so I can learn a thing or two about car maintenance. Because of them, I now know some basics, like where to plant the jack if I get a flat, how to check and refill the coolant in an emergency, and other basic car maintenance tips I should know. Took my 2002 Lexus IS300 to get a major service done. Replace the catalytic converter and replace the APS. Dropped the vehicle early in the morning at 8am and it was ready in the afternoon. I usually work on my car myself, but decided to give business to Carlo since he was great the last time I came in, around January 2020, to have some underbody plastics re-installed. He was very informative and I also had a checklist of other items to be inspected. The IS300 runs great, since I was running on a bad catalytic converter for awhile and the APS put my car into limp mode when accelerating. Last thing, I need to do is have the suspension bushings checked, since their is sound that comes from the front shocks when going over bumps and holes. Only occurs when the shock is at full oscillation. Will definitely been bringing my service back to Carlo and have my parent's GX470 serviced there. read more

Carlo damaged my undercarriage pinch welds with his lifting equipment. He doesn't know 4x4 Toyota/Lexus. Charged me $75 to tell me to take it to a 4x4 shop after he bent my pinch welds. Carlo's a garbage mechanic with no regard for your vehicle. Who mounts a 2 ton truck on it's fenders to raise it? Is that Toyota/Lexus protocol or training? "Specialist?" Only at messing up your car when you bring it in, he'll do a good job of that! And neither he nor his staff wear masks here, another demonstration of the fact that he doesn't care about you, your health, your safety, or your car. If Carlo can't do something as basic as lift a truck without damaging it AND he and his staff are trying to spread COVID-19, that ought to let you know how "great" a job they'll do on your vehicle. Called the shop and spoke to Carlo the day before to schedule an appointment. It was a great experience from the start. Upon arrival, I met Nick got started right away and ran a scan on my check engine light. Once Carlo arrived to the shop, we went over the errors together, which was nice . I've been to other shops where it feels like i'm in the dark in between drop off and pickup. I was so impressed with the service, I decided to have an scratched interior panel i've been wanting to replace as well . In regards to prices, they are very fair. It cost 50 dollars to run the scan ( not optional ) before running the scan. The dealership was asking for 150 for the same thing. All in all, I am more than pleased .
