The restaurant was plagued by tiny flies buzzing around the dining room, and despite being relatively empty, I was seated in the back near the kitchen. I ordered the steak for one, a half-liter of wine, and a mixed salad. The staff explained that the steak would be served rare, which they said was typical in Florence. That was perfectly fine with me. What arrived, however, was not rare but medium-rare, and it looked and tasted like a misshapen saddle. It was nearly impossible to chew--the toughest cut of meat I have ever been served in a restaurant. In fact, the diners at the neighboring table were also complaining about how tough their meat was. I moved on to the salad. The lettuce was acceptable, but the tomatoes were old, mealy, and completely lacking in flavor. The strangest part was the balsamic vinegar service. Instead of a normal bottle, they used spray-bottle attachments that looked like they belonged on a can of hairspray. It was awkward, clogged, and unnecessarily confusing. By this point, I simply wanted to leave. I had to track down a waitress who seemed completely lost just to ask for the bill. Eventually, she informed me that I needed to pay at the register. When I got there, the owner was sitting in the back drinking with a group of locals. He saw me waiting but continued sipping his cocktail and carrying on his conversation before finally handing me the check without so much as an acknowledgment. I paid and left immediately. The wine was bitter, the tomatoes were stale, and the steak had all the tenderness of a shoe sole. I found myself wondering: Is this Italy? Where am I? This was easily one of the worst meals I have ever had in Florence. What a complete mess. read more

Let me start off with this was by far the best pasta spot I had while in Italy. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. They accommodated our large party of 16 right away. We all had a pleasant dining experience, our waiter was funny and polite. The food was also delicious! I had the basil pasta - sooo yummy; the bruschetta WOOOAAAH so fresh and delicious. I expected the restaurant to be a tourist trap because it is close to the Accademia Gallery, which houses the David statue. The food, service, and ambiance all wowed me. We started out with a charcuterie full of wonderful cheeses and cold cuts. It included a nice sweet and spicy chili jam. I was obsessed with it. I felt that maybe we'd be a little under dressed because the restaurant looks very classy but waking in we immediately greeted by a very hospitable host & that fear was put to rest. We asked our friendly waiter for recommendations & went them: for appetizer mushroom strudel; dinner the crispy lasagna & my partner the pappardelle with wild boar. Phenomenal! The lasagna was like no other I've had before, it's made in white creamy Buffalo sauce, it's crispy outside, meaty and cheesy inside with insane flavor. Rating mostly for the food. We had linguini with clams and spaghetti. My linguini was cold and the spaghetti was flavorless. They served fried bread rolls which was nice and also champagne if you were waiting to be seated. For me that did not make up for the quality of the main courses which were our least favorite in Italy. The restaurant is right behind the busy bus station so you might miss it behind all the people waiting for the buses. Atmosphere itself was pretty comfortable. I was here maybe seven years ago and wasn't that impressed. I suppose I ordered something I didn't like. But that was then and this time was different. It was maybe a km walk to Accademia in Piazzo San Marco from our hotel. This restaurant was recommended by a good friend of mine because he is friends with this restaurant's owners, Gianni & Inka. The food here is excellent! My primo piatto was pasta,red sauce with boar meat. My secondo piatto was coniglio (rabbit). Both were most enjoyable. What a treat! I had been struggling to find truly delicious Italian food in Florence (yes it's difficult to avoid the tourist trap foods) and my neighbor recommended this place. The food was the best I've had so far in Florence. We had the special of a Tuscan vegetable and white bean soup, spicy spaghetti, Taglionni with white truffle sauce, and for dessert the tiramisu and special riccota cheese cake with chocolate. Very good little restaurant, we though that it was not that good because it was empty when we arrived, but when we got in the asked us if we had reservations (which we did not) but the gave us a table anyway. The buffalo mozzarella really made a difference and I definitely can say that this is my all time favorite lasagna that i've had. It came with a small portion of penne pasta with tomato sauce. However, upon finishing and wanting to pay and leave, we literally waited about 25 mins for a waiter to come and check us out. Waiter eventually came and gave us the receipt. We wanted to pay with credit card and asked, they said sure... then we waited another 20 mins for anyone to help us pay.. We tried flagging multiple waiters to no avail.. So we decided not to wait any further and waste our time, and paid with the limited amount of cash we had (left it on the table w/ tip) and left. Among us, we got the basil ravioli, chicken parm, traditional beef stew with purée potatoes, crispy lasagna, tagliatelle noodles with black truffle. Food is mediocre, but the hospitality is absolutely top notch. It can be so rare to find genuinely warm and caring service! I really want to be able to say I loved - or even liked - the food, but I just don't think I can. We tried a number of dishes but most of them were average. Pecorino cheese with chile marmalade - good starter. The marmalade is similar to sweet thai chile sauce and has a small kick, and pairs well with the cheese. Ravioli with basil and burrata - ravioli itself not very flavorful, but is a lot better when eaten with the burrata sauce it comes in. Portion size is small if you're looking to make this an entree, with only 5 pieces. Ravioli with mushroom, ricotta, and truffle - more more like large tortellini than ravioli, and comes in 3 pieces in a dish. Also quite flavorless, even with the truffle...maybe I'm just used to having more salt in my food? Cavatelli with zucchini flower and saffron - awesome chewy texture, but still flavorless. Had to add a lot of salt to this to make it more palatable. Rabbit rolled in colonnade and lard - very rich! I could barely eat one of the pieces, I can't imagine how anyone can eat all three of these in one meal. Very, very tender though. Flavor wasn't bad. Even though the food was quite disappointing, the service was beyond wonderful. There were only two waiters staffing the entire full restaurant, and though they were definitely busy, you could tell they loved being among the bustle and stopped now and then to talk to people. The place is small but service and food was very good. The steak for one, however, was too large to eat but came out perfectly cooked to order. The Swiss chard side was flavorful. I got an avocado/burrata appetizer - would never have thought of that combo but the flavors went well. Their house Chianti Classico Riserva was also very good. Would recommend. Excellent. Ordered roasted tomato stuffed basil ravioli with burrata sauce and it was heavenly. Sweet, delicate, and just the right amount of creamy. One of the waiters in particular spoke English well and was very accommodating and understanding of an allergy. The atmosphere was great -- comfortable, authentic atmosphere and not at all pretentious. My one complaint was dessert. We ordered the chocolate cake with cream. It was more like a fudge-y dense brownie and not a very good one. Too sweet. I was expecting a lava cake because I thought I saw another table get one, so it was a bit of a disappointment.
