This is the worst possible pharmacy, do not get your medicines filled here. The pharmacists are the rudest people, I'm not sure how they still have jobs. I've seen them yell at people, they loudly announce people's birthdates and addresses, they often don't have very common medicine in stock and they will flat out lie and blame the customer about why they've failed to fill prescriptions. Especially if you were a senior do not come here, they treat seniors terribly. read more

On San Miguel in Newport Beach Many of the shelves in this large store are empty. Often I go in and can't find what I need that was usually stocked even a few months ago. Except for the medication and other things in that area of the store, it is not well stocked. There is plenty of liquor, however. And the employees you can find are pleasant and helpful. I've heard it's because their credit rating is down so the vendors won't stock them. They may be teetering on the edge of Chapter 11. CVS is not much better, I hear. Same issue. Buy online or go to a private small Pharmacy and sundries store. read more

Heartless. Went in last night for a refill for my son and the pharmacist wouldn't give it to me because the doctor hadn't attached a note. When I asked for 1 pill to get him through today while I contacted the doctor to provide the note she said no. When I asked why they hadn't notified me or the doctor that a note was needed she had no decent answer. Why deny a child his medication? Needless to say, I'm transferring all prescriptions out of this pharmacy. read more

Closes earlier than other locations. I have been coming for 25 years. The Staff at Pharmacy is hit or miss. One was helpful at the Pharmacy but he couldn't hear me well with the plastic barrier and our masks on so he asked me to raise my voice so he could hear me. Things went smoothly until his colleague, however, yelled at me for screaming at him after he got on the phone to process my request. I raised my voice only because his colleague asked me to speak louder and this individual was 10-15" further away. He got on the phone for my request but I knew that he was instructing the Hospital incorrectly so I informed him that he was instructing the wrong information. He stopped everything and told me not to yell at him. He hung up on processing my request, said they knew nothing about the Rx. I calmly told him I was trying to speak to him while he was on the line because my Mother just got out of surgery from the ER, he was telling the wrong information, and I was trying to correct him while he had the Hospital and other Rite-Aid on the line because I needed to pick up her medication before I went to get her from the ER. The people on the other line couldn't process the requests because he wouldn't listen to me and told them incorrect facts. This pharmacist reprimanded me, saying that he didn't need to be yelled at when he was trying to "help" me. He was not helpful. I told him I appreciated his help but all I was trying to do was ask him to please refer to the slip of paper I gave his colleague - the slip of paper in his hand as I was telling him the information on it while he had been on the phone earlier since he was ignoring it. Since he wouldn't listen to me, he had to make another call after realizing he made mistake(s). Of course, nobody would pick up again after he tried to call again to fix the mistake(s). He had my Father and I waiting with no success for 30 minutes trying to contact the right people but had time to yell at me when the surgery center already closed. I told him he didn't have to "help" me anymore, that he could just to hang up and not to bother because [he had more attitude than me] my Mother and the entire surgery center had to stay after hours, waiting for me to pick her up after almost losing her arm. Before leaving, I apologized to him, said I was sorry if it seemed like I was rude or yelling at him - but I left without the medication and causing 5 nurses and doctors to work overtime to care for my Mother after her complex surgery. It was the worst experience at a Rite-Aid or anywhere else. I was reminded of why I drive to a further location from my house more often if I have to go to Rite-Aid. I ended up having to get the Surgeon to transfer the Rx to a 24/7 CVS after he was already halfway home to LA. The entire ordeal was delayed while my Mother was vomiting, drugged up from the anesthesia, fevering, shivering, nauseous, and feeling sick from the high-dose painkillers. We should have been home by 7:30PM but we weren't home until 10:30PM after having spent the entire night before in the ER for 12 hours, going to work for 12 hours and dealing with all this with no sleep. I have not been back to this Rite-Aid since. This happpened during the latter half of the Covid-19 Pandemic. I don't know if this Pharmacist still works there. Maybe he was having a bad day, maybe my Family and I were having worse, maybe my fatigue/anxiety/stress levels made me give off more attitude - but I have been in customer service and hospitality for longer than this Pharmacist has been alive - bad experience all around - other than the guy who helped me at the beginning. read more

Went here with appointments yesterday (8/30) with the husband in tow to get vaccinations. Had appointments for 10:40 am and 11:00 am. Was not taken in until 11:00 am. What is the point of having appointments? The young Asian tech said "oh we are doing inventory". If you are doing inventory (the shelves are bare) then perhaps you should not be giving vaccinations. I've been going to this pharmacy to get the same medication for over 2 years now. Every month.. on almost the same day.. for 24 months... Yet, without fail, each time I call in for the refill, I find myself having to speak to the manager because whomever answers the phone refuses to fill the prescription on the requested date... Always being told: "it's too soon." After jumping through a enough hoops each time, they finally grant me permission to order my medication, which is then, of course, NEVER in stock....2 years... Not once have I hung up the phone and said: "Wow, that was easy." Instead, I'm forced to do either of the following. A. Make two trips: One for a partial fill and another for the remainder of the refill. Good thing the gentleman was kind enough to advise me they'd only charge the one copay, not one on each of my trips. Or B: Go without medication for the two or three days it takes the pharmacy orders it in. All of which was bearable, until last week; after having already made a trip to pick up the partial script, I get to the pharmacy to find out they're charging me $293.00 for my prescription this month. No heads up. No "let me see what's going on." No "let's see if I can get on the phone and find out if we can fix this." . Not even an "I'm sorry for the inconvenience. That's ALOT more than you were expecting(can afford) to pay. No, None of that. Instead, I over hear something about having ordered the medication in already and there being no other option. So, they send me down to speak with the other pharmacist who, without ever taking her eyes off the screen tells me: "it's going towards your deductible. It's not telling me anything else. You have to call your carrier to sort it out. I can't do anything about it." So a few days later, the insurance company finally gets back to me. Only to say that the reason I was charged 250 extra dollars this month was simply because they now offer a generic version which they will gladly cover at the same copay rate I've always paid. The pharmacy conveniently left that out seeing as they would've had to, yet again, REORDER meds they can't seem to stay on top of for the past two years. read more

I hate to do this but I must. I have bought 3 gallons of milk Rock View brand from this Rite Aid store and all three went bad before the expiration date. I like the store and the staff but the product sucks. My two year old who can barely speak had to tell me the milk was bad. I was poisoning my own child without knowing it. DO NOT buy Rock View Milk and do NOT buy it from this Rite Aid even if the expiration date looks good. To add to my comment last month, I am only referring to the pharmacists, except Shahaab. The other pharmacy staff has a few very nice ones but some see my Rx turned in and I get the look like "I'm so BAD!" They have to consult with a pharmacist who takes over. The whole interaction of turning in a script or fill it, I am being discriminated just because of the medication it is. Spoke to various pharmacies and tell them how RUDE & DISCRIMINATING Rite Aid San Miguel pharmacists are... except "one" pharmacist. One of the many pharmacy's own pharmacist actually said, "Is his name Shahaab?" They said he sounds like the only cool one whenever the two pharmacies have to communicate. I am writing this review in comparison to other "drug stores" that I've visited. The cashier greeted me when I walked through the door. The store was set up very nicely. It was clean and welcoming. I found what I needed. I was helped to finish setting up my profile so I would get the $2.50 cents credit I had coming from previous purchases. I was warmly thanked for coming in. By far the best pharmacy I have ever been to! Shout out to the head honcho pharmacist Andrew! I have never met an individual so knowledgeable and caring. He took the time to explain my medications and address any other questions I have. That smile he has you can see from a mile away. I am writing a review of the pharmacy. I went in on Thursday to pick up my medication and was met with very good service. Oscar was the person who helped me and I asked about avalibilities for a flu shot. He told me that I came in during a walk in period and went to grab me a form to fill out. After I filled out the form, I handed it back and he said he would process it for me. Shortly after I recieved the flu shot and was on my way! Very simple and efficient process! 5 out of 5 stars from me!! read more

I recently switched to this store from CVS, as it was closer to my home. I have had 2 prescriptions filled for pain medication in the last 2 weeks, and both times they shorted me by 5-10 pills. I called them on it and they apologized and gave me more meds. I don't know what's going on with this pharmacy, but maybe they should take a look at who they have working there. Riteaid has been remodeling their stores over recent years and the latest victim is the store on San Miguel. Yes the store looks pretty. However anytime you replace floors, merchandise racks (gondolas), lighting and signage every store would look better. Again they've opted to remove the standard pass-thru conveyor register design & replace it with a walk up counter register. I would really like to see the numbers showing how that increases sales. In my opinion, if I can't easily unload the shopping cart full of items because there simply just isn't enough room then I won't ever shop there for more than will fit in a hand carry basket. Just like I wouldn't go to 7/11 or Circle K for more than I could carry in two hands I will no longer waste time browsing the whole store with a shopping cart while waiting for a prescription to be filled. It is obvious to me as a customer that you want me to purchase small amounts. Here is an actual example from what will be my last shopping cart experience at your store: My wife and I went to pick up a couple prescriptions and she wanted to get her flu shot. I had a list of three other items to purchase. I knew it would take awhile so I grabbed a shopping cart. By the time the pharmacy stuff was finished I had a full cart. In roughly 20 minutes I had selected $150 of merchandise. This much stuff would have required four of the hand carts. Trust me when I say I will never try to carry or drag four of your hand baskets. Furthermore I will never purchase more than will fit in a single basket. That roughly means this recent purchase would have been closer to $40. I will shop elsewhere to spend the other $100+. Of course I could be completely wrong and all my 30 years experience building commercial retail stores has taught me nothing about store traffic & product exposure and how it translates to larger quantity sales, impulse buys, etc. Oh yeah, before I forget, your corporate decision to stop selling leashes for eyeglasses or sunglasses in your stores located around a very active yacht harbor and near lots of beaches seems shortsighted. Between the kids who need them for sports & the thousands of us who frequent the water, having a reliable and easily accessible source would be one of those little items that gets buyers in the store. read more

I've been coming to this pharmacy for about 10 years; it's centrally located for me. While in the past customer service was sometimes lacking, it's clear this store worked hard to improve staff knowledge, responsiveness, and overall service quality. Along with the completion of the remodel, the whole customer experience improved. I can honestly say my interactions with this store, particularly the pharmacy, is tops. I decided to write this review because of the exceptional service I received at the pharmacy tonight from Ernest. He alerted me of an Epi-pen coupon that allowed me to get my son's prescription filled at a huge discount. I really appreciate that kind of proactivity and personal attention. 1 star for service, 3.5 stars for the store and parking. I'm shocked to read that someone received "the best service" from the pharmacy, because I think it's pretty horrible. They are personable and pleasant, I would agree, but they seem incompetent. After many mishaps over the last 6 mos, today was the last straw, and I am now writing a review. My husband and I each spent over 30miutes there today and we still don't have our prescription. Are they lying to us or just morons? Why say it will be ready at a certain time when it won't be? Do you not know?! And we weren't the only ones - long lines filled with other frustrated patrons each time. Pharmacy is garbage has put me on hold 4 different times within 5 minutes for a simple medication and each time they took me off hold they had no idea what I was on the phone for, I would explain again and would be put right back on hold. This has now been going on for 30 minutes also when your in the phone tree trying to get in contact with the pharmacy it takes you back to the main menu every 2 minutes so that you will have to go through the promps and thus losing your place in the phone line. I once was checking out and the young gentleman asked if I wanted to donate a dollar to some fund. I told him no and indicated as much when answering all of the questions on the credit card machine. He persisted with apparent judgment. I replied, firmly, no thanks. He pressed me once more! As if the lines aren't bad enough (really -- hire more people), the service is crap. I wish I had read the reviews about this pharmacy first, because they're true. This location doesn't seem to be very organized. Transferred my prescription from another pharmacy to this one on the rite aid website. Received a confirmation email saying it had gone through. Went to pick it up a few days later, they had no record of my prescription being transferred. Submitted it then in person and gave them my insurance card. Literally watched the lady spend a few minutes on the computer inputting my insurance info. Came back two days later to pick up the prescription, they didn't have my insurance info on file. They then inputted it for a second time and I finally got my medicine. It took a week. With so many other pharmacies in existence, just go to a different one. read more

BEAUTIFUL REMODEL. They just had the store totally redone and it turned out fabulous. They have a lot more items now, even groceries and wine. You can always find exactly what you need, but the new layout does take time to get used to. The only downsides to the store are that it does tend to be expensive and they never seem to have enough checkers. Another problem is that now that Fresh Brothers Pizza has moved 2 stores away, their delivery cars take up all the good parking spots. So parking in front of Rite Aid is now almost impossible. read more
