Michelle is absolutely everything you want in a stylist! She's super nice and relatable. She listens closely to what you're asking for and has the talent, education, and experience to make it happen. I normally see a stylist in Portland but couldn't return there in time, and my hair was suffering. I had delayed trying to find someone in the Chandler area because I have fine hair and have had a lot of trouble finding stylists with the appropriate background to be able to handle it appropriately. I've found that Sassoon-trained stylists come closest due to their training in precision cutting. I texted then talked with Michelle, and she assured me she was well versed in precision cutting and could handle my color request as well. During the course of the cut, she also informed me that, among other schools in her background, she is Sassoon-trained as well. Long story short, she knocked it out of the park! I lost my hairdresser of 10+ years when she moved away. When I started looking for a new stylist, I was admittedly shocked at the going rate for a simple hair trim. I'm a low-maintenance, no-frills kinda gal, you see. My old hairdresser had only been charging me $25 all these years! So when I was getting quotes for 50-80 for a basic trim, I was shocked. I ended up going to someone my old hairdresser had referred me to and was SOOO disappointed. She charged me $40 and didn't even dry or style my hair! And she really hurt me whilst washing my hair and scratching my scalp with her long fake nails! The real kicker was when she made me feel like a weirdo for wanting a straight bang cut and tried to convince me to do something I didn't want. It was like high school peer pressure BS. Anyway, that was the first and last time I went to her. Then, one day I was sitting at Palette Collective getting a coffee while waiting for my truck to get new tires on it at Costco and I thought, hmmmm... I'll Yelp some stylists in this place and see if I can find someone. I came across Michelle's yelp reviews and decided to text her. She responded right away, and as it turns out, she was sitting across from me at a table. LOL Michelle only charged $10 more than the other stylist, but she dries and styles my hair after cutting it. Plus, she doesn't charge me to get my bangs trimmed every 4 weeks between getting the mane cut every 8 weeks (the other stylist was going to charge $5 for the bangs only, and I had some stylists who told me they couldn't take less than the full rate for the bang cut). Michelle is meticulous when cutting my hair. I was surprised when she dried me up, flat ironed my hair, checked for and trimmed up additional uneven ends. I am writing this review not to throw salt in anybody's game or to throw shade, but I feel like I need to let my black women know what's up in regards to our choices regarding hair salons, especially in Arizona where the pickings are slim. Warning; if you don't see another black woman working in the hair salon or you don't see another patronizing the salon, run as fast as you can! Seriously, all Stylists are not created equal!! Let me repeat, all Stylists are not created equal. The only type of white girl you want in your head is the chick who hangs out with pookie and dem and definitely my girl, Rachel dolezal. Straight up!! I should have known better, but I wanted to try a new experience, an equal opportunity experience. Coloring all hair textures shouldn't be hard. No need for a style, just color and go! I mean, how hard could it be to color a pinch of coarse hair?? Not a big ass afro, but a pinch of hair?! So I wanted my hair a vibrant blue black color. I sent photos ahead of time. Michelle explained to me the pros and cons of bleaching the hair to achieve the desired result, which I appreciated since I explained to her that I was trying to grow it out . But sometimes you have to give the customer what they want. First, she dyed my hair black and mixed blue into it. Nothing showed up. Then, she put a demi color on my hair to try to lift it slighty. While the hair was wet, it appeared to have a slight tint, but that turned out to be just the reflection of the water in my hair from the lighting. I found that out real quick as soon as this kinky hair dried up. I paid $75 for the same color I had when I left. I reached back out to her because nothing showed up. I told her that i wanted to do whatever it took to get the desired results, especially since i spent $90($75, and still left a tip to be nice). She agreed to fix it the next day. So she starts to lift my hair, and I notice she didn't put me under the dryer. My hair has been lifted to gold blonde in the past, and the Stylist put me under the dryer. I didn't say anything because she is the professional, and I trusted that she knew what she was doing. She left it on for about 30 minutes and then she washed it out. She showed me what it looked like, it wasn't lifted evenly, it was 3 different colors, lighter in some areas and darker in others.I didn't think anything of it, because again, I gave her the benefit of the doubt because this is her expertise But I hindsight, that made all of the difference. When she added the color and rinsed, we finally saw a little progress...under the artifical light. I was happy!! I couldn't wait to go stunt and show off my hair. I dropped another $10 for a total of $100!! I walk outside And my daughter says, "mommy, your hair is green and blue. Wtf!! I didnt ask for mermaid hair. She took these photos of my hair so I could see, and I was mortified!! My hair looks like someone scribbled with a green and blue crayon in the lower part of my hair and the top is black with some speckling of color. I am super disappointed! My shit is dry af, itchy, and damaged because of this mishap. I spent $100 and I look like a fool. I give this place 2 thumbs down and a black girl starter kit hair tutorial! read more

My hair experience today was awesome! I seriously love the coloring she did, and my hair feels a lot healthier after the treatment she recommended. Michelle applied balayage highlights and recommended a treatment that's good for colored hair. It was only $15 and made my dry, damaged ends like new! I asked her to trim the ends and she barely had to take any off because of the treatment. She styled my hair nicely at the end, explained the products she used, and helped me find a nice clarifying shampoo. She's easy to talk to and makes your trip to the salon very pleasant. I found Michelle here on yelp when searching for color/balayage, who is close by my house. I was fortunate because she was able to get me in the next day. After going to my appointment, I feel even more lucky because she will probably be booking appointments out further for the holiday months. Michelle is super cool. She's very friendly and conversation comes easy. She knows how to get the results you want using her extended knowledge when you tell her your ideas. I had my hair done balayage style when i came in, so I had roots plus pink and red ends but she brought everything together with the platinum ends I asked for. Even with all the coloring and chemicals I've had on my hair recently, the end result had no damage and looks great. I'm very happy with the end product, with her time management (I've spent 6 hours in salons before getting my hair done). Not this time. Completely transformed my hair and I'll be back to lighten some more later. she uses great products and the salon is very clean which shows she respects the work. If you want to get balayage or color, or color correction, Michelle is your gal. Love the salon location too, in downtown Chandler. Being a traveling consultant, I've had my hair done by many different stylists in many different cities, from LA to New York to London to Tokyo. Based on this experience, I can wholeheartedly say that Michelle's skills are amongst very the best. Sad to say but I have an odd shaped head (think little green men), so finding stylists who can craft haircuts to complement the shape has always been difficult. Michelle, however, was able to create an amazing cut in our very first session! And it got even better in the subsequent sessions! Bottom line, if you are looking for a GREAT hair cut and a pleasant conversation, do yourself a favor and book an appointment with Michelle. I went to Michelle B yesterday with a disaster on my head. I have dark hair and my regular hair dresser who highlighted my hair for a year turned my roots orange red. I went back to him and he made it worse. I was so afraid to have someone else turn my hair red that I waited, but after two months I was looking really bad. Best haircut and color I've ever had! I just moved to AZ from Nashville a few months ago, and was worried about finding someone good since I've only colored my hair a few times before and it turned out badly. I came in with a few pictures of what I wanted (a very low maintenance, balayage-like lighter shade of brown/blonde highlights to shine up my brunette hair), and she was able to make it happen but even better! Michelle seemed very knowledgeable about hair and color, and I am very satisfied with the results. Her rates are affordable given the service you receive, and her new location was really relaxing and nice.
