On a referral from an Oakland native, my now husband got several shirts tailored here for our wedding. Great value and pick up was a breeze!

Yim is a miracle worker! I took my bridesmaids dress to her which was very tedious to alter. She made it fit perfectly!

Ask the Community - Ritz Tailor & Alterations

I have some pants that need to be let out a little. Can that be done today?

Not sure but give them a call.

How much would it be to alter the length of sleeves in a suit jacket?

$30 - $40 The price ranges due to the difference in style (buttons, stitching, etc.).

Is there an email address I can try and get a hold of this business at? I tried calling but line is down/busy?

I called the number posted in the window and was able to speak to the staff: 510-350-6617

Is it walk-in only, or do they take appointments/reservations?

Both! I usually call ahead so they know I'm coming. Sometimes you might just have to wait if you do walk in. It's a pretty small store.

From start to finish, I tried on the dress, Yim measured it and asked me to come back in about a week.

A very reliable tailor near Berkeley, and the only one I'll be going to until I move!…read more I got my dresses hemmed and it was done perfectly. The stitching was on point! It looked as if that's exactly how the dress came in. At the appointment, the owner takes the time to understand how it's supposed look, and how you want it to fit. After the appointment, it was very easy to communicate with the owner. He responded promptly and was transparent. I had to schedule a last minute hemming request and it was done on time! If you're in a pickle, just call and see if he can do it. He will not schedule an appointment if he knows he cannot get it done on time, which I appreciate for being direct. I'll definitely come back but this time without any last minute requests!

He's very kind, understanding, and is a master of the craft. Below is a recent before and after of a vintage thobe I thrifted that needed some love. It was originally way too large for me and I wanted to convert to short sleeves & lose the 70s shoulder poof without removing any of the handmade cross stitch embroidery. The after picture speaks for itself. The thobe fits perfect with all the right details I wanted Thank you as always for the excellent work!

Unfortunately, my…read moreexperience was not positive so that was when I started looking into the 1 and 2 star reviews on Yelp and Google. They're all saying the same thing about Maria being disorganized and unreliable, which was exactly my experience. And based on reading the negative feedback, I noticed this lady tends to deflect blame. Never her fault. Always something else. I brought in two pairs of jeans for hemming and a wool coat that needed a lining added. Price was affordable. She gave me a week timeline to pick up. I originally planned to pick everything up on Saturday, but I called the next day (Sunday) and asked if I could pick up a day early on Friday instead. She said yes. Thursday came and I called them just to remind them as I've had experiences elsewhere in the past where things got forgotten and I didn't want to make a 25 min drive and finding out my stuff isn't ready. Lo and behold, when I called to remind her I'll be picking up the following day, she said Saturday so I reminded her I called her last Sunday to change to friday. She said okay, she's not busy so she can work on it. I showed up Friday at around 11. My stuff wasn't done. Her employees were working on it. At first she mentioned pick up was supposed to be Saturday. I repeated I've made phone calls prior to change to Friday and she said yes. Then she said I came too early. Say what? We never confirmed on a pickup time. Then she asked me to wait additional 40 minutes. And she argued with me, giving me an attitude. I let her know she was unprofessional and disorganized and this was before I read all the negative reviews. It frustrated me because she had the whole week to work on them and she didn't. Will not be taking my business here again. I do not recommend her business.

I took it to her and asked if she could make it bigger (I wasn't hopeful since my alterations budget was $500 and there was so much beadwork). She said to do the hem and make it bigger and fix the beading on one of the straps it would be $450 so I said yes. Wow I am so glad I did! She was so sweet and took her time and was thorough which I am so appreciative of since it was for such an important dress. Definitely recommend!

Since I was working with her from out of town, I scheduled my appointments 3 months prior to my wedding date and ultimately met with Thuy 4 times before my wedding date. She did a beautiful job with all the garments. I requested a hidden bustle on my dress which turned out exactly as I envisioned. I was especially impressed with how Thuy used scraps of lace from other alterations to almost exactly match the lace from the veil to hide some small snags. She mended the veil overnight and it looked beautiful. Overall the total cost was less than $1k for everything mentioned above and she didn't charge extra for her work on the veil. I highly recommend working with Thuy for alterations if you're in the East Bay!
