Very interesting service tonight. Was looking forward to seeing the nice couple only to be greeted and taken care of by a man who doesn't speak English. I only took away 1 star because I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt but I have no idea why that man was taking care of everything by himself. He was nice and hardworking but someone taking orders should be able to communicate and he should be taught how to serve. After ordering he had us pay right away even though we were dining in -- never had to do this before also we tip on service so that's kind of weird. The egg rolls were not as good as they used to be. Yellow curry was not yellow. Forgot to give us another rice. Didn't give any additional plates to eat on or share food. Didn't give the drinks first. Only gave us spoons until we asked for forks. And was bringing dishes out one bye one. I feel bad cause I really liked this place and I hope the best for them but I hope this was a one time thing. The man also took orders for these girls then went to the back to cook, completely ignoring a lady who was waiting behind them. That lady waited 10-15 minutes and ended up leaving. This place is in the area, and thank goodness because I was really craving some yellow curry. There aren't any bells and whistles to this place, just hardworking people and great food. I ordered it to go but for pickup, and the service was fast! We got 2 yellow curries to go, and they were fresh and piping hot! And the taste did NOT disappoint. This is a small little spot on the corner of N. Torrey Pines & West Lake Mead. After seeing their video on TikTok, I came out to show my support for this business. While I was waiting, the lovely older woman there gave me an Iced Thai tea (free of charge). She informed me it was for being patient and waiting. This is a "mom & pop" business and so it will not be as quick as other places. But that is ok! You wanna know why?! Well for starters, their appetizer of 8 pork egg rolls is delicious, not soggy & has that crisp crunch when biting into them. Secondly, their Shrimp Pad See Ew is Chef's kiss!!! Third, their crab fried rice is da bomb.com especially when you add chili oil on it!! I gotta say, their prices are amazing as well. Now, to be honest, if you don't want to wait, then call your order in because I see that the owner makes sure those orders are done & ready for pick up. Customer service was amazing. Our food took a little longer than expected but they were slammed with orders so I understood- 45 minutes. The fried rices we got were great (egg fried rice and pineapple fried rice) but the chicken pad Thai lacked a little flavor. It was okay - maybe if they were as busy it would've been better. I made the drive to this family owned restaurant after seeing it on Tik Tok. The service was great! I ordered ahead of time so when I arrived, we only had to wait a little bit. The owner was very welcoming. The food was made fresh to order. We live 30 minutes away and by the time I got home, the food was still hot. Very delicious! We ordered the egg rolls, crab Rrangoon, pad see yew, and fried rice. Also ordered a Thai tea. There should be some transparency about new changes here. Used to love this place, but it's now a burger joint/thai fusion place? But they're not able to make burgers when we went in. Disappointed in the inconsistency with the soup I ordered. I got a tom kha soup to go a few weeks ago that was made in a large to go container and it was great and I ordered the same soup today and it was made completely different, extremely spicier than the other one I got, and served in a small container, but I still had to pay same price. There's a lot of great things about this new place. First, a late night (open til midnight!) place in the NW. Most Thai places close around 9-9:30pm in the area so River 9's new extended hours are a huge plus! The service - owners are VERY nice, very cordial and really trying to earn your business. They quoted me 20 min on the take out and it was spot on. I walked in and my food was being bagged up. The food - Chicken Satay comes with four skewers and a peanut sauce. The chicken had good flavor but a little over done so it was slightly chewy/tough. The peanut sauce had good flavor, it is very thick though. I decided to loosen up the sauce a little at home with some hot water and it was a perfect consistency after that. Chicken Fried Rice - good flavor and they give you a really big portion. They do have some different veggies in the fried rice including peas and Lima beans and corn. While interesting, I didn't mind it and I thought the flavor of the fried rice was really good! The is the only gluten free Thai place in town. They made gluten free wings and serve them with gluten free rice. The lady that owns the place is really nice and takes pride in her food. Mood- After Dentist Lunch Date with the Son While we are in the final stages of orthodontic procedures, my sons mouth is sore. So he usually wants something soft. This particular occasion he had a permanent rubber band put on and the pain was off the scale for him. So soup is what he craved. Upon entering was quickly greeted and given a menu to look over. We always drive past this restaurant but finally decided to try them since it is a block away from our church. We were the only ones dining in while about 3 take out orders were being picked up. The lady who took our order was really nice and even asked what spice levels we wanted. We ordered the Combination yellow curry (medium spice) and Pad Kee Mao "drunken noodles" with chicken. The food came out quick, hot, spicy and delicious. We will definitely be back and will be telling our all friends about this spot too. read more

Daughter ordered Pad Thai, I ordered Pad See Ew sub bean sprouts for broccoli. Server brought us both Pad Thai. Oh well, not a fan of Pad Thai, but started eating it, I was not going to complain. Then, she comes back with my Pad See Ew. With broccoli and no bean sprouts. Somehow, because she didn't write down the order, she thought it was reasonable to think 2 people would order 3 dishes. Also, did not have any chili tray, but brought me chili oil instead. Charged me for all 3 dishes. We barely touched our food, it was pretty bland. The other lady even commented on us not eating it, but didn't ask if everything ok. We took everything to go because I absolutely hate to waste food. But the more I thought about it, the more upset I got. We decided it was not worth saving as neither of us were going to eat it, so we threw it away. I had 2 dishes, one I didn't order, and the other not right either. $52 bucks wasted. Somehow this place has 4.4 stars, so some people are happy. But not us. Upon closer inspection , a bunch of 5 stars from people with no pic, no other reviews. Fake reviews! Would not recommend. Highly discourage. I absolutely love Thai & Laos food, so I decided to stop by and check them out. The ambiance is peaceful and just right for a pick up order. I was greeted by Kathy who was very gracious and hospitable...her customer service was EXCELLENT and I knew just by that, I'd be back! My intentions were to order Som Tum Lao(Papaya Salad)with sticky rice...she had to soak the rice but let me taste the papaya salad and it was perfection! Very tasty and spicy (just how I like it). I got to try the egg rolls too, they were awesomely crispy and flavorful. The Thai Iced Tea was yummy too. I ended up ordering Chicken Larb (Laap) and crispy wings; which did not disappoint!!'! Ive been here at river 9 thai probably 20 times now. Every single time its amazing food, ive had the drunken noodles about 10 times and I get it 7/10 spice which is perfect, 8/10 can be insane for me sometimes haha. Egg rolls, yellow and red curry, orange chicken, sweet and sour chicken, and pad thai are all also really good. Kathy, the owner, is a an great woman and super nice, she keeps trying to give me free stuff everytime im there cuz i go so much haha. Highly recommend this place as the food is always fresh and amazing, and you can literally see the fresh veggies in the glass door fridge.
