One important thing to note is that they only accept cash. So, make sure to bring some pesos with you.

The salsas didn't do the food any favors either. None of them really stood out, and the green guacamole salsa actually tasted like it had gone bad, so we stopped eating it. Service was attentive, but almost too attentive. Staff kept coming by every few minutes to ask if we were finished or if we needed anything. While I appreciate good service, it made us feel like we were being rushed through our meal instead of being able to enjoy it at our own pace. Overall, I don't understand the high ratings based on our experience. With so many amazing taco spots in Puerto Vallarta, this one didn't come close to meeting the hype. The thing about Puerto Vallarta is that there are a bazillion restaurants...a bazillion and 1...a crazy amount of eateries. Of all these restaurants, one can eat a meal costing less than $150 pesos, including a tip. The bill for two, with no alcohol at Carlota's was $800 pesos! Over the top for mediocre food. I'm just not sure what the draw is.

River Cafe is the absolute best restaurant in PV. We´ve been coming here for over 10 years now and had never fail to enchant us. We enjoyed breakfast, lunch or dinner many times; but honestly, dinner is out of this world, the gazebo is the perfect spot for any special celebration, overlooking the river, in the middle of the jungle, away from everything, IT´S JUST PERFECT! Im a vegetarian, so i ordered off their new vegetarian menu and the lentil - mushroom steak was delicious; it looked, tasted and smelled like real steak my husband ordered, as always, the rack of lamb, he quoted: "the best". They have delightful live music most of nights; we really enjoyed a single man playing guitar and singing cu-curru-cu-cu... Downside is the staircase that lead straight to the restaurants front door was demolished, you have to find your way around to get down there. Asking around, many locals believe its closed, but NOO!! From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make our experience special. They beautifully decorated our table (thank you Gabriela!), creating a stunning and festive atmosphere that set the tone for a memorable brunch. Good thing salsa and pico de gallo was also brought out. Even though meat was well done, it was still quite tasty. The restaurant itself was quite beautiful in the main floor which leads out to the grassy area. Beautiful spot for a party or wedding. There's also an upstairs level that is open air as well. Across from the restaurant, they have the brewery which we didn't try out. That as well is along the river on the opposite side. It's a beautiful restaurant and a nice try if you're walking along the riverfront island.

Many places make a good lime Margarita in the area but No Se Nada's flavored margarita is top shelf in my book and a separator from the other bars/restaurants in the area where the passion fruit Margarita is one of my all time favorites regardless of destination/locale. Their Bistro style cuisine is some of the best food in the area and the roof top dining with sun going down is such a great environment that this is a destination restaurant if you are in Puerto Vallarta. Finally, someone took pity on us and turned on a light and provided a small touch lamp for the table. We were then promptly asked for our drinks, and received the two topo chicos about 10 minutes later. We then decided to put in some appetizers - the garlic bread and the oyster's Rockefeller. When the oysters finally came out, 15 minutes later, they were so cold that the cheese was no longer melted, but rather clumpy and the oysters raw. We had no choice but to send it back to the kitchen to be cooked. After a short while, the oysters came back. Around this time, a family of 5 or 6 sat down at a table near us, and began waiting for someone to take their order as well. Meanwhile, we sat at the table for 35 minutes waiting for someone to take our order for entrees. The table of drunk people beside us were also experiencing issues, and ended up demanding a 15% off their bill because of the service issues they were having at this time. While all of that was going on, we were still waiting for someone to take our order. Finally, the waiter, finally realizing we were there, came over and took our orders - we were clearly not happy about the wait, but decided to stick it out, because it was getting late, and we were hungry. 20 more minutes go by, and we are wondering where the two dishes we ordered (the fried fish and the sea bass) were. AT THIS TIME, the family of 5 or 6 that came in, not only ordered, BUT GOT ALL THEIR FOOD BEFORE US, including steaks. We would probably still be waiting if I didn't make eye contact with the manager (who checked in the with the family, and was leaving to go away), and he finally came over to check-in. We were now REALLY upset, because it took another 15 minutes to get the food. The sea bass came out first, and then the fried fish. Once we took a bite of the sea bass and the mashed potatoes on that dish, we realized that dish WAS COLD too and immediately had to send it back to the kitchen. They microwaved and brought it back to the table and we had no choice but to finish it. At this point I was VISIBLY upset, so they kept trying to make it up to us by bringing me a whole lot of rice, beans, and sauces. I wanted none of that, and asked for a to-go container for the fried fish, and the check. They tried to offer me a drink on the house, which we turned down, and eventually brought out the driest flan I have ever seen, which we took a bite and left on the table. The hurtful part of the experience is that there was no offer of a discount for the horrible experience, like the other table had received. So we paid our bill and left. Everyone kept trying to shake our hand on the way out - but the damage was already done. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT - on top of it all, the only thing that was tasty about the whole meal, was the fried fish - what a waste of $132 USD.
