I've been here a few times because they told me they use real espresso in their martinis. Today was my third time ordering it, and the martini was extremely strong. I wasn't gonna say anything at first. The server even asked me if it was OK and I said yes. And she said "oh thank goodness because I thought it might be too strong." ... so to be fair, the server did check and ask about it. So I just asked for a chilled shot of espresso., that way I could just add it to my drink and instead of having them remake it or complain. And then she told me they don't have an espresso machine, and then realized they just got one and she said let me go see if I can figure out how to use it. Great ambiance, great attentive staff and the Food is fresh, flavorful and the serving size is a Lot Lot. No skimping here , a definite stop and stay a while. Brought along my sis in law and hubby who is NOT a seafood eater. After today's meal, I can't say that anymore. He tried the halibut and he scarfed (annihilated) that meal ! WOW! River City Grill exceeded our expectations - and they weren't low expectations, either! I'd read a lot of reviews (Yelp and elsewhere) that were positive, and they sure were right about that. It started with outstanding service, from Jenna (hope I didn't misspell it because it might be Jena). She greeted us immediately, brought out bread, welcomed us in, asked about drinks, and we were off to a great start. My wife was even able to get that excellent gluten-free bread, and I had the regular bread, also great. Wine price point was great, as was the selection. Lots of gluten-free or gluten-friendly options. VERY flexible with modifications. Food was phenomenal, really high quality. I had the herb crusted chicken Dijon and it blew me away. The chicken itself was tender and delicious but the preparation put it over the top. Crispy, tangy, atop a bed of excellent pesto penne, with delicious fresh seasonal vegetables. Wow. My wife had shrimp and scallops over gluten-free pasta and she loved her dish as well. To finish off the meal, my wife had a great Manhattan on the rocks (well, the official bourbon / Manhattan ice cube), using a great Yellowstone bourbon Jenna recommended. Right on! And I can't stop thinking about the chocolate amaretto mousse. I'm not usually a fan of these types of chocolate desserts because they're typically too sweet for me, but man was this great! Smooth, creamy, you could really taste the chocolate, it wasn't overwhelmed by the sugar, and the fresh whipped cream next to it was a great complement. Plus the little amaretto cookie, nice touch. Ambiance was also excellent - loved the artwork on the walls, cool bar, nice vibe. One of the best dining experiences we've ever had, we'll remember this for a long time. Oh my what a gem. First time visit while on vacation. Had the crusted salmon lunch. Absolutely delicious. It's served over rigatoni. Salmon was incredibly flavorful and cooked perfectly. My daughter had a ribeye steak and she said it was delicious. Huge ribeye! I highly recommend this place and hope I can get back to try other menu items. The waiters and waitresses were all friendly and the service was top notch. It's such a cozy and quaint atmosphere and there is seating outside for those inclined. It is small but very charming. The stain glass windows are nice. The staff is okay. The server was very nice at first but we didn't see her again until we asked for the bill. No one asked us if needed anything else or if everything was okay. We ordered the sea scallop and prawns with the curry sauce on the side for the lobster ravioli. All the seafood was fresh and tasty and the ravioli. The halibut came with spinach ricotta ravioli in Alfredo sauce and unfortunately I did not order the sauce on the side. So all I ate was the halibut thank goodness it was just placed on top of the veggies and none of the sauce got on it. The halibut was delightful it light and flaky and the olive tapenade on top gave it that tangiest it might get with lemon juice. Just right. The Alfredo sauce was very thick and gritty. I had a piece of the ravioli that I scrapped the Alfredo sauce of and that tasted very good. The Alfredo just ruined the rest of the dish. I wish I could have used the curry sauce with the ravioli instead of that sauce. We also seen a lot of people order wing the bread pudding and it looked so good. So ordered one to go. We heated it up a couple hours later and added the ice cream to it. It was soooooo goood, you could taste the apples, cinnamon and the bread custard in every bite. If anything if I return I would get the bruschetta combo but ask for just the olive tapenade and caprese. The minestrone soup and apple bread pudding. I was eager to try this on our first visit to Yuma. Even though reviews are extremely mixed-really wanted everything to be perfect . I checked out the food and drink on line and thought it looked very reasonable and thoughtfully put together . The wine list was especially well priced . My husband's NY steak was perfectly cooked and he loved it. The only problem he had to ask for a steak knife that actually cut it twice before he got a choice of 2 more. Sigh. My Pacific NW salmon was tasty with the pistachio nut crust- the palest salmon I have ever had from there and I lived there over 20 years . Staff were pleasant and service was quick. Over all impression when opening the door - golly not much room. A very small area for people to stand while waiting to be seated .Fresh flowers would go a lot further as a nice touch rather than a tired artificial mis -match as the first thing you actually see ? Driving between San Diego and Tucson, we looked for a lunch spot in Yuma and River City Grill had good reviews. It turned out to be way better than that. Everything we had was delicious, and the servers were among the most delightful and helpful people we've ever met. Also, the air conditioned inside was totally charming. All of the food is prepared in house, including the excellent bread. Top quality ingredients prepared perfectly. The dishes showed some flair, so they weren't just the run-of-the mill stuff you'll typically find on the road. Also, the lunch prices were extremely reasonable. The date is February 14, 2026, we are excited to dine at this restaurant. We arrive at a 5:45 reservation, the ambiance is pleasant with a Valentines Day vibe. We place our order at 5:55 and bread is served. Our entree arrives at 7:20, I'm upset and my date is upset. My Filet Medallion was not cooked to my likings and it was double salted! The lobster bisque was horrible. The place was a mad house. Everyone in our surroundings was frustrated due to food being served late. In my opinion for next year, don't book so many people when you don't have enough cooks or room for more cooks!! Don't try to make so much money then look bad in front of customers like us. This restaurant was recommended by a dear friend who is now our dearest friend! A very simple exterior but quite cozy and quaint inside when one enters. There's a lovely outdoor patio as well. The hostess went out of her way to make sure we could be seated, because we failed to make a reservation. We plan to go back there on our way home and will certainly make one for that evening! Mark started off with a martini while I ordered wonderful glass white wine, Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc 2020, from New Zealand. Delicious. And speaking of delicious our food was wonderful! Coming from out of town, we looked for the finest restaurant in Yuma and the River City Grill went to the top of the list. Four of us for dinner. We order the New York Steak, Chicken Parmesan, Mediterranean Salad with Salmon and Mustard Crusted Salmon. All the plates looked great and everybody gave theirs a 5 star. Speaking for mine, the New York steak--it is was the best NY cut I ever had. Tender, steak knife not required, full of flavor and cook to my medium perfect. What a gem in Yuma!!! This is our 3rd visit to RCG and it did not disappoint. The service was fantastic, friendly and efficient. We were greeted and shown to a nice table on the patio. Our server was a lovely, young woman (wish I could remember her name) and she came over to say hi and take our drink order. I tried their Paloma and my husband ordered a nice bourbon. After she walked away, bread and water were delivered to the table. We were ready to order when our drinks came. We each had a small Mediterranean salad, it was perfectly dressed (not overly) and very tasty. My husband ordered the drunken black cod. He loved it! It was slightly sweet and very flaky. The River City Grill used to be one of my favorite Yuma restaurants. I don't know what's happened to it. We went tonight for a girls night dinner. Four of us ordered Ribeye Steak with Gorgonzola Compound Butter. Mine was ordered Medium and my friend sitting across from me ordered Pittsburgh Medium. My steak arrived looking perfectly cooked. I cut into it, it was a perfect Medium. Totally on point. My friend received her Pittsburgh Medium but when she cut into it, it was almost well done. We both tasted our steaks. Totally lacking in flavor. I had to add salt and pepper and ask for extra compound butter. Adding some kind of seasoning to make it tasty but it wasn't. My friend notified our server that her steak was not cooked correctly. They offered to refire it. Another 20 to 30 minutes and another steak was delivered to her....this time it was more well done than the time before. So she decided to ask for a manager. A very nice manager came and sat down next to my friend and listened to her as my friend explained her disappointment with the steaks that were delivered. She was actually the one that had recommended we eat here. The manager was very nice, she agreed that the new steak was obviously cooked worse in the first steak. What really caught us off guard is that she told my friend that if she wanted the first steak she ordered, it was still in the back available for her. I don't understand why that would be an option. For one it's been sitting for more than 40 minutes at least. And why would they be hanging onto a steak that a customer returned? Wouldn't that automatically get thrown in the garbage? The other suggestion, the manager made was taking the steak home for steak and eggs tomorrow. She expressed that there are some issues with the cooks, that they've been in transition and also mentioned that she would speak with them. So then, the manager offers a gift card to my friend. When the manager left to go get it, I asked my friend if she really wanted a gift card or if she just wanted credit for the food that she ordered and couldn't eat. At this point, my friend said she really doesn't want a gift card, that she just wants the bill comped. So when the manager came back, my friend asked her if the bill would be comped or if she would be receiving the gift card and at this point the manager said she could choose one. So my friend opted to have her bill comped. All I know is, I had a terribly bland steak. My friend had none! And even worse, I'm left wondering why they would hang onto a steak that someone returned to the kitchen... UPDATE: To answer the question about the necessity of the review from the business owner. I don't always write a negative review but I will when it's deemed necessary. In this case, the reason is simply the food overall was not good. Four steaks ordered, not one of us were happy with the cook or the taste. We each paid $40.00 for those steaks, they should have been tasty. You shouldn't be cooking to try and suit the tastes of your clientele. You should be cooking to deliver an amazing tasting plate! If you cook incredible food, people won't be dissatisfied. Besides, your rating is 4.5 stars here on Yelp. Nothing to worry about with my review. But it's good for people to see a truthful review and not just those from friends or regulars who find your establishment nostalgic. I am still left wondering why you didn't immediately throw out the first steak? Was it sitting out or was it refrigerated? But it was still available to her after her second steak was cooked.
