The owners have zero child tolerance! You would think a pizza place would be the perfect place to grab some quick lunch for your kid, but the owners here gave us dirty looks and we actually heard them say "...and they think they could bring them to places like this!" I had to ask them if they had a problem with us staying there and the woman just said "nope," and walked away. Our children were not even doing anything out of the ordinary besides laughing loudly and walking around their seats while the owners took forever to make a large pizza. Please bear in mind that this is a hole in the wall where everything appears sticky and gooey and we had to keep asking our kids not to touch anything. We immediately paid and walked out with our food after it was brought out to our table. We also let them know we would be sure to leave reviews. Horrible owners and a horrible experience. Our pan pizza tasted like the frozen pizza at A&P. Also, I did see the owners being very friendly to the only other family in the restaurant. I don't know why they were especially rude to us. River Edge Pizza has been the BEST gluten-free find for my husband and I. We have been gluten free since 1999 when I was diagnosed with celiac disease. I am usually hesitant to try new places because of what we have been through over the years. My diet is one thing that I can control in my life and for my health. I had read an amazing review online and I wandered in to check it out. After talking with Francine and Robert, I felt so comfortable that I left with enough food to last us for a few days. It was AMAZING! We were hooked! We have loved everything that we have tried - the food is fabulous! There are soooo many gluten free options! I would put 0 stars if I could but Yelp won't allow it. Don't go here unless you want to be treated poorly. I called to ask if they had a gluten free item and if I had to order ahead of time or if I can just walk in. She says to call 5 mins ahead of time. So I call and a man answers and I say I called earlier and proceeded to ask if the bread was made in house or from a third party vendor. He said they order it from outside (packaged, they don't even make it). I ask what other ingredients are in it. He rudely mumbles something and hands off the phone to the female owner. She defensively says no one has ever had a problem with her food. I explain that I wanted to be sure there wasn't anything in it that my child was allergic to. She responds rudely and aggressively that I shouldn't eat there and then goes off saying she doesn't have time for this and much more. So I am looking for a good pizzeria in town but still cannot find one that says "wow". I came here as a recommendation by others by when checking out the prices I said that's insane unless the product is what it seems. Unfortunately, their pizzas are not that great as gluten-free and gluten seems like its made on a pita bread (my opinion). But I do have to say that the sandwiches that were made were delicious and worth the price, but I still have to keep searching for that great pizzeria in the local area. I have never written a bad review, but today forced me to. In a nutshell, the pizza came an hour late, was cold, delivered by the owner who said to me, "it's just a f***ing pizza." when I said it was not hot. The gluten free/vegan "the works" pizza is my favorite EVER! This is the only place I trust for gluten free pizza. My family and I have celiac and dairy sensitivity. Excellent food, definitely the best in River Edge. Authentic Italian, great ingredients, flour from Italy. Had a few different pies, white, margarita, and plain, all excellent. Also had a Stromboli and Pepperoni roll, again best in town. Sauce is not sweet which I like, not acidic, cheese is high quality and the folks that run it are really nice people. Not only Is their pizza excellent but everything I have ordered from the AMAZING rice balls, to pasta, to chicken, to a simple salad were all delicious! You can tell the owners are passionate about food and buy great quality ingredients. The prices are reasonable and the food is better than any Italian restaurant in the area which costs twice the amount. I highly recommend River Edge Pizza Kitchen. My daughter and I both have Celiac and were glad to find somebody who understands our needs. It's good old home cooking and we haven't had anything that appeared to use processed ingredients. They use an imported Italian flour for their regular pies that has 1/2 the gluten of U.S. flour and does not contain Azodicarbonamide (type of foam rubber) which is allowed in U.S. produced flour. All told we are highly pleased that somebody is finally taking a healthy approach to pizzeria styled food. read more
