Thom and Grace were the nicest hosts: welcoming and gracious when we checked in, friendly throughout the stay, and very helpful as we left to drive through the mountains. Alberton was a brief drive west of Missoula and definitely worth it to get out of the collegetown scene. The Ghost Rails Inn sits right in the middle of town in an historic building that has been a hotel since 1909. The accommodations were charming, with beautiful dark wood, large couches and armchairs, comfortable beds, and seemingly countless fishing books. My girlfriend and I were thoroughly impressed and delighted by our stay even before the tremendous breakfast: huckleberry pancakes. If you are in the area, strongly consider the Ghost Rails Inn for a night or two. The location, rooms, and hospitality were outstanding.

We were greeted by name and shown to our room. We were informed that as there were no other guests, we could change our room if we wished but I was well pleased with the choice my husband had made. The hostess had thoughtfully left a small space heater in the bathroom to have things toasty for us since it was a rainy chilly night. After settling in for a bit and unpacking, we headed downstairs to curl up in front of the fire where a comfortable couch and chairs had been thoughtfully arranged. My husband and I both helped ourselves to a cup of tea from a well stocked supply and snagged a few gourmet cookies. Coffee is also provided if asked for. After enjoying that sociable hour getting to know our hosts, we headed upstairs to take advantage of the free wireless to check on local businesses and other amusements to spend our time the next day. The rooms are all very well appointed and are named as well as numbered. We stayed in room number 10 ~ Montana Autumn. We had a large comfortable room with a private bath and a queen size bed covered with a handmade quilt made by the hostess herself. For those with children, this is a room to keep in mind as it has a bunk bed tucked away in the corner. The next morning we were greeted by one of the semi-resident dogs (they are both very well behaved) as well as yogurt parfaits waiting for us at a table. It was vanilla yogurt layered with granola, raisins and bananas. There was also quite a large pitcher of orange juice. I had just finished my parfait when plates mounded with homemade french toast, peaches and bacon arrived. I left that table well stuffed. We consulted our hosts on things or places we might check out before heading out for the day. We were in and out several times before heading back to Missoula for dinner. They reminded us that they locked up at 10 and told us what to do if we did happen to arrive back after that time. However, even if we did set out to enjoy ourselves, unfortunately we're a bit of a stick in the mud and are the epitome of an old married couple. We arrived back at 9:30 after an exquisite meal. After preparing for bed, we went back downstairs to enjoy some more time by the fire, this time just by ourselves. We had hoped to watch a movie on our laptop, but the streaming isn't fast enough. If we had realized this, we would have let it load while we were out and about. We greeted the second morning a little late since I managed to mess up the alarm but we were still downstairs in time for breakfast. This time we were joined by an older couple whom had checked in the night before that were celebrating their fifty-second anniversary. We much enjoyed their company as well as the hosts for breakfast. This time were served with homemade quiche, cantaloupe, grapes, orange juice and a big plate of homemade cinnamon apple muffins. Yummy! Once again I left the table stuffed. I got to see some more of the quilts the hostess was working on and they're gorgeous. In fact, the other woman who was staying there ordered a quilt from her! There is also an old cradle full of hand knit sweaters for sale. After this, while my husband loaded the van, I enjoyed the fire one last time knitting for a little bit until it was time to leave. My husband signed the guest book that originated from the 1920's as well as made a few remarks in our room journal. Each room has a journal that guests are encouraged to leave their thoughts in. I quite enjoyed reading the one in our room. We also discovered that there is unlimited long distance calling if needed. And for those that this may concern (I was quite pleased with this) there are no TV's on the premises although one may be added to the dining area in the future. Games are books are provided for entertainment.

We booked directly, at the last minute, over the phone, and couldn't yet specify the number of nights we would need our two-bed room. The owners were completely flexible about that and we kept them apprised of our plans as soon as we knew them. This is a "self-serve" motel in that no one is on-site. You are given instructions on how to access your room, including the door code, before your arrival, via email. The same door code gives you access to an "amenities room" where you may pick up extras such as blankets, toilet paper, etc. The building is one-story, cute and a little dated. The room was furnished with two queen sized beds, a glider rocker, 2 nightstands, a microwave, a small coffee maker, and a large flatscreen tv with Dish satellite. There is an easily adjustable wall heater that makes it nice and warm quickly. Our bathroom had a tub-shower. The beds were very comfortable. The room was clean. Across the street is a cafe that serves lunch and dinner, and currently serves breakfast just 1-2 mornings a week. They give a discount to motel customers. About 3 blocks away is an espresso drive-through. So the location is convenient to important morning needs! :-) Whenever we had a need, we could text or call the owners and always got an immediate response no matter the hour. After four nights, we planned to leave but there was a winter storm warning so we weren't sure if we would be able to make it out. They were willing to hold our room for us until we knew we could make it out and just let them know by texting. We really appreciated their willingness to be so accommodating and flexible. Would definitely stay here again.

New owners are dishonest, not present and don't care about the customers…read more My wife a I have been regular customers for almost 14 years. We were a party of 4 with friends who have also been very regular diners. I ordered macaroni and cheese with chicken and also advised that the orange cheese garnish be left off as I am highly allergic to the dye in orange cheese. My wife and another person in our party reiterated the importance of no orange cheese as it could result in an anaphylactic response. The server indicated she would verbally mention this to the kitchen as well as the written instructions. When the server delivered bread to or table, the orange cheese issue was again mentioned and the server indicated the kitchen was aware. Prior to our entrees being delivered, the server asked my wife if gravy on her steak was okay since the kitchen already prepared the order and was not on the side, as requested with the initial order. My wife indicated it was okay to be served as prepared. At least five minutes later our entrees were delivered, and it was clear the food had been sitting for some time as the gravy was congealed and barely warm. My macaroni and cheese had several pieces of orange shredded cheese on the edges, but I stated I would pick those out. I started to eat, I saw there was orange cheese mixed in under the chicken and covered with additional white cheese sauce. It was clear that the error was noticed when my wife's order was addressed and the chicken macaroni and cheese with orange cheese garnish was flipped over to cover the error, so to not have to refire the entire table order. I was very displeased and told the server, who eventually requested we discuss with the manager. The manager stated the kitchen did not purposely do this and it was just a mistake. I again pointed out my severe allergy and advised this was mentioned with our original order multiple times and the server assured it would be done correctly. There was no offer to refire the order or apologize for the intentional inclusion of cheese. The manager just kept repeating that it was a mistake and not intentional. The situation escalated and the manager asked us to leave and not return. We stated we had been regular customer for years and the manager said he did not care and asked us to finish and not return. The rest of our party finished our meals and left the restaurant without any other contact or service from the restaurant staff. The previous owners, Ray and Shawn, had a great business with great staff. What a shame that this is what is happening with the new owners and management. So please be warned, if you have a food allergy, be very aware of what is prepared for you. If you choose to eat at this establishment.

The French-pressed coffee in the room paired perfectly with the morning view from our patio. The complimentary snacks, wine, and robes were the icing on the cake. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the room was well-lit, kept cool and dark, and the bathroom floor was heated! The pools themselves were amazing, with varying degrees to soak in. The bathrooms and locker rooms were clean. Plenty of seating, both in the sun and in the shade. They kept water available all day, and the drink/snack stand was also nice to have. The views there are hard to beat! We cannot wait to come back, even in the winter. As for the food, we ate at the main restaurant for both dinner and breakfast. Each time, the food and service were excellent. Definitely a new go-to for my wife and I!

The natural surroundings are stunning, particularly the charming cabins located right by the river. It's a nice setting for those looking to disconnect and enjoy the scenery. The food was another high point--delicious and well-prepared and good portions. However, the one significant downside was the comfort of the room; we found the beds to be very uncomfortable, which definitely impacted our rest, we both woke up with achy backs. If you're visiting, the riverside cabins are nice for the charm and views, but you may want to keep the firm mattresses in mind.

No cell service & terrible WiFi isn't just a slogan it's a promise and I loved it!!!…read more Lolo Hot Springs is in a beautiful location and has so much potential! The scenery is absolutely breathtaking, and the staff we interacted with were friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to try the restaurant, so I can't comment on the food. Pros: * Easy check-in process * Family-friendly and welcoming to kids * Plenty of loungers around the pool * Kids' life jackets readily available * Huge outdoor pool with gorgeous views * Women's side has 5+ shower stalls and 3 bathroom stalls * Plenty of outdoor seating * On-site restaurant Cons: The property could use a little updating and better attention to the overall ambiance. It feels somewhat run down in places, although it was clean enough that it didn't feel dirty or unpleasant. One experience that caught me off guard was when I purchased bottled water. The employee carrying them over rested the bottles against the sides of her neck under her chin while walking them to me. It was a very hot day, and I understand she was trying to cool off, but it wasn't something I expected when receiving sealed drinks. I ended up rinsing the bottles before opening them. Also, be prepared for snack prices. Everything in the snack area bottled water, soda, candy bars, and small bags of chips is $4 each. Those costs add up quickly for a family, so I'd recommend bringing your own water and snacks. Overall, we enjoyed our visit and the location is beautiful. With a few improvements to the facilities and some attention to the guest experience, this place could easily be a standout destination. I wish I had time to take more photos but I could t pass up on the merch picture when I got here.

I kindly asked her what is the solution if emergency happens, somebody needs something or you lose a hotel key... she said we have staff and hour away and she does not know. It is very concerning that in case of emergency staff lives an hour away. We did not get a hotel room and end up driving two and half hours in middle of the night exhausted. Pretty epic experience!
