We were here again tonight and this time we brought the kids!! HUGE DISAPPOINTED, compared to the first time!!! This was hands down the worst food ever! Our waitress did her best but the kitchen absolutely a nightmare!! They were so far behind in total almost 2 hrs we were there. Waited about 40 minutes for the absolute worst calamari we have ever had!! Tasted old and fishy! Then another hour for our food. Shrimp tacos he hated, I had the shrimp fried rice literally looked like a bowl of slop we and the poor food runner had no idea what the hell it was! My other half had the cheesesteak absolutely horrible!! My other kid had the boil and that was the only person at the table that liked her food! Then to top it off my check had so someone else full dinner on it and I had to get credited back almost $100 bucks for someone's full damn check insane!! Waiting on my credit so we shall see if it hits the bank! Absolutely terrible food and the wait for that food was ridiculous!!! Used to be a decent place to go to. Now with such high prices and a lower quality of food, I doubt we will be back. Old, cold French fries that chewed like leather. A burger that didn't even look like beef. Our waiter was decent, but the food is the number one reason to eat out. And don't try the "boss's favorite " wings. Bartender was great, second time I had him. Don't remember his name. Went for the PB pie and of course they were out of it. The other desserts I got were good. Second time there and I ordered the steak with a crab cake on the side, same order I got the first time. I would like to say it was good but the entire time I was eating..I was battling flies. I had to eat so fast that I don't know what it even tasted like. Not just one fly, there were about 6 flies swarming my plate. Moved seats and they followed to the other end of the bar. Good food, friendly staff, and a pretty cool bar atmosphere. We have been coming here for a while now. Initially we were very impressed and would have given 5 stars, however over time we have had enough complications that we feel 4 starts is more fitting. The food is generally great, however there have been a few flops from time to time. For example, the House Fried Chicken Sliders were a bit of a letdown compared to some of the other items on the menu. We can however, recommend the lobster bisque! The staff are always pleasant, however we have ended up standing around waiting to be seated on particularly slow days when there was no staff in sight. There has also been times where we ended up waiting an unusually long time for our food, again when they were slow. The atmosphere is generally nice, and although we tend to come in for lunch or a weeknight supper, I can imagine the weekends can get fun with their sound system and lights. read more

There will never be enough words to express my gratitude for the staff and owner here. I called in a pickup order for a steak. I knew it would come across that I was ordering a single "small bland steak" . The lovely lady taking my call asked if I wanted any sides and she was figuring out how to place a single steak in the system, and through my tears I expressed that no sides would be needed as this was the final meal for our beloved dog-Hiro who was diagnosed with intestinal lymphoma and renal failure. She simply asked, "how would you like it cooked" as the tears became contagious. and I was told it will be ready in 20 minutes when my daughter and I came in to pick up we were warmly greeted. It was not only cooked and packaged beautifully but it was handed over with so much love. They shared our grief, offered support and made every effort to help ease the pain and make our darlings last meal, an amazing one. And for that and that alone, I will forever be grateful to the amazing people of River House. Hiro went into eternal sleep the following morning, surrounded by love, a song and a tummy full of the best steak of his life. read more

Let me just say that the River Monster was one of the best burgers I have had in the area in a long time. The meat was good quality and cooked to a perfect medium-rare. The marinated mushroom and red wine onions were fantastic on this. The serving of fries was very generous and they were golden crispy. The menu is large and covers everything from pizza to seafood to pasta to tacos. The draft beer list was very good. Our server was great and prices were reasonable. oh where to start... The food was good.. And Now the Bad... Our waitress was rude and obnoxious. We asked if we could move tables because the ceiling was caving in above our table and water was dripping down. It was also extremely loud with sitting so close to the bar. We were told ALL the inside tables were reserved. They made us either go outside or sit under a caving ceiling. We opted to go outside since we didn't have any other choice. Our outside server Brandon was very good. But the bees were so bad one of us got stung by a bee. We didn't even finish our drinks because the bees were so bad. We went there because it was near the Harrisburg airport, while we were traveling. The atmosphere was very loud noisy and is basically a bar with food. Our waiter was very nice and very attentive. Unfortunately the food was not very good. My wife had a seafood dinner and the scallops were not sufficiently cooked, she sent them back and the received cooked scallops. My dinner was not hot, so I sent it back to be heated up. That took about 10 to 15 minutes to get the dinner back and as a result was only a little warmer than the first time. This was a rib dinner, I ate two of the ribs but the third rib was very fatty and was not edible. We paid the bill and left a standard 20% tip, but would not go back. read more

The only complaint is that the music was super loud...at first it was streamed music then a live singer...maybe if it was outside, the music wouldn't have been so defeafening but inside you couldn't hear the person sitting across for you. We stopped here twice on the way home from Ebensburg. Outside seating is probably great when the weather is nice, but we were happy to sit at the bar. Lindsay the bartender was a ray of sunshine on a rainy day. We wanted the cheesesteak egg tools but they were out. We ordered cheese curds, RJ had chicken sliders and I had shrimp tacos. It was all fresh and delicious. On our second stop he had steak Caesar salad and I had something that was super hot with crab and avocado but I can't remember what it was! This is so unfortunate because the food at this restaurant wasn't bad at all and our server was sweet . I went here with some friends of mine and unfortunately we both had hairs in our food. There was hair in my crab cake and a hair in her lobster bisque. I think the chef needs to wear a hair net. read more

Went there a week or so ago with family that came in from out of town. We had a person with a gluten allergy, but she found the steak salad on the menu and was very happy with it. All of the food was great. The service was fantastic. And the prices were reasonable (for the world we are in right now). Have gone there a few times over the past few years and really don't ever recall having a bad meal or service. The Alfredo with shrimp and crab is good. Sauce is delicious. The tomatoes in it is gross. The crab is basically nonexistent. The crispy buttermilk chicken was not real Crispy and kinda bland. On Sunday, that have all you can eat seafood -crab legs, shrimp, clam strips, hush puppies, corn /fried chicken. I get the Sailor's platter which has scallops, shrimp and broccoli. Crab brûlée-to die for so much crab meat! Pittsburgh steak salad is good-dressing on side, (forget the chicken n mash-not worth it when there other good stuff). Wings were nothing special and the sauce (honey sriracha) tasted like that thick sauce you get on coconut shrimp at Chinese buffets and the meat tasted old. The burger had to have been a preformed patty, but the marinated mushrooms on top were good. The food in general came out lukewarm, like it had been sitting. Service was friendly but slow. I went with a friend for lunch last Wednesday. I specifically wanted to get something with fries since they were supposed to be "fresh cut fries". Well they might have been fresh cut some time in the past, but they were certainly not fresh fried. I even asked the waitress if they really were fresh cut fries. She had to go ask someone else. She came back and told us that yes, they were. Fresh cut fries are not mealy and dried out on the inside like these fries were. This place is above Elizabethtown in a quiet area. Somewhere good to take your college student out to dinner. The patio is nice and relaxing. The service is not super fast but not way to slow. It's more that speed that makes you relax and laugh/talk to your dining partners. Food was very good and filling. Prices are a big range so you have options on whatever budget you are on. Absolutely terrible experience at River House for dinner tonight. Haven't been here in about 10 years, and their food posts always look great. Too bad we'll never know. We waited an hour and a half, and STILL never got our food. (Fun fact - it was NOT crowded.) Twice, within the last half hour, our waitress told us it would just be a "few more minutes". Clearly, that was a load of bullshit. I went in at the 1.5hr mark, and told her we were done, and were leaving. She understood and apologized. I then asked to speak to the Manager. As if I wasn't already annoyed enough, he had the nerve to say to me "if you're in a rush, I can cancel your order." A RUSH?! You can't possibly be serious. No apology. No nothing. A complete douche. THEN said, "well I can cash you out for your drinks." No sir. You must be confused, drunk, and delusional. We're not paying for them....and we will never be back. read more

We just had an awful experience at this restaurant. First of all, they were out of a lot of things on the menu. I ordered the garlic Parmesan sauce for wings and there was no sauce at all on them. The bowl was completely dry on the bottom and I was told "that's how they are supposed to be". Chicken was dry and flavorless. My husband ordered the clam linguini and it literally looked like a child's portion of pasta for $20. Requested to see the manager and showed him the pasta and he said "we pre-measure the pasta and that's a serving". You're going to lose customers if that is the attitude your staff takes. We had a very pleasant experience two weeks earlier so we brought friends with us this time. Live pretty close to the River House and have been here a few times. Had to order wings, so started off with mango habernero boneless wings and a cup of French onion. Wings did not meet my expectations even though they were my fav previously. Could have been the sauce I ordered (note to self). French onion soup was presented well and tasted good but not hot enough. Son got braised short ribs, hubby got seafood creole pasta, and I got chicken ricotta pasta meal. Why I stay with the 4 is that the three main courses were all delicious. Almost forgot the large glass of Pinot Grigio, probably 8 ounces and was yummy. Food poisoning aside (from the crab and shrimp Alfredo pizza), it seems like the restaurant is not taking mask-wearing seriously. There were ~7 people in the bathroom (including 1 worker) and not a single person was wearing a mask. They also have a sign that says if people are not wearing masks, they "respectfully assume it's due to a medical condition", meaning anyone could walk in without a mask and endanger others as a result. Although I ate outside, the fact that a worker and several individuals were not wearing a mask indoors is worrisome. While the slushies were delicious, the fact that the restaurant is not enforcing mask-wearing is extremely concerning. I will not be returning. read more
