Our group loved our experience with river riders! We camped and rafted with the company and would definitely recommend it! Camping: We stayed in one of the cabins on the campground (C3) and it was perfect for our group of five. We did need to get an air mattress but we had no other problems. The cabin had a nice small kitchen area but the fire pit was the best part. We cooked in the fire grate and had a beautiful view of the river. We also got cheap rafts at Walmart and floated on the river right by the cabin. Rafting: The rafting was a fun experience. We had Danny boy as our guide in our boat and he was a lot of fun. He knew the river very well and was funny at the same time. We had some first timers in our group and it was perfect for them as well as entertaining for people who have done it before. read more

River Rider's Campground is F%^ing terrible. The tent spaces are on top of each other. The campground host is not present on the campground. The campground is not enforcing the rule of 2 people per campsite and there is a group of 7 people blaring music, drunk and swearing from the time we arrived at 3 PM to now which is long last 2 AM. No staff is intervening even when requested. River Rider's doesn't pick up their phone. The other guests are so drunk and rowdy and loud it feels unsafe.This isn't a place for peace and quiet and there is no oversight. read more

We booked a white water rafting trip (combined with their Adventure Park as part of the Adventure Pass combo) with River Riders as part of our trip to nearby Washington DC. The rafting operation is quite organized. Safety briefing, outfitting, transportation to the let-in location. Our guide, Maddie, was great! It was a smooth trip - she explained what would happen, gave great instructions, was encouraging, conversational, and made it a fun trip. The Adventure Park was slightly less organized, but those in our group who did the courses had a lot of fun! We would definitely go back! read more

I've been a tubing return customer for the past 4 or 5 years, going once or twice per summer with a group of friends. Both flat-water and whitewater rapids. The staff and team here are great, they're knowledgeable and their safety instructions will ensure you're safe on the river. I see a lot of lower reviews here complaining about some common sense things like checking the weather, and being aware of the rainfall that has happened over the past few weeks which affects water levels... or complaining about getting injured on the rocks which is part of the risks you accept when going on the river. My deduction in 2 stars here is simple: both river segments have gotten progressively worse year over year in terms of trash & river cleanliness. I don't feel like this is enforced enough, and to me, if you're a business making a profit from services on the river, then you have a responsibility to help keep it clean. Adding more strict information about this during the safety talk before people get on the buses would also help. We always bring a large mesh bag we attach to our float to pick up what we can, but this year the flat-water segment in particular was disgusting from beginning to end - and the sides of the river were absolutely lined with trash. I'm not saying this is 100% River Riders' fault (in fact there are several tubing businesses on the same river segments), but it definitely affects me wanting to come back next year. They all need a river cleaning program of some sort. read more

This time I came back with a group of friends, we did white water tubing and ziplining. The experience was great! We booked our tickets ahead of time online.Tubing was at 9:45 AM, checking in an hour early, and then the bus drove us to the drop off point. We left three hours in between tubing and ziplining booking , it was perfect. We showered , grabbed lunch, and came back just in time for ziplining. Compared to our last experience white water tubing , it was a breeze. I recommend everyone buy water shoes before coming here, upgrade to the floaty with a paddle, and bring sunscreen. The ziplining was a new experience for most of us, it was definitely worth it the money. Our instructors Mac and Dakota were amazing! They were funny and made us feel comfortable the entire time. Loved their dynamic. We basically ziplined for about 2-3 hours increasing in length, speed, and skills. We climbed to get to higher lines and even got to zipline near the river! We rented the expensive tubes called the tracking tube. We hadn't hit rocks or branches, but out in the middle of the river two of them, at the same time, developed holes in the top by the handles. The yellow plastic paint stripe got all over our legs and clothes too. We did as instructed and went to the road. Another company stopped and gave us two of their tubes and took our popped ones. We then got to rest for about an hour, when we saw a River Riders employee call out to us to guide us to the take out. Then she started yelling at us in a mean way..."Your bus is here." "No one's going to be waiting on you." We thought we were really late. She kept speaking rudely and I couldn't believe it. I had a paddle and we were clearly headed toward the takeout. She was so rude, one of us jumped out to pull us all in faster. Then the bus driver said,"What's this we got two different companies here." That was AFTER we explained that we had two popped tubes. I thought the other company was so helpful and had no problem helping us but River riders were irritated. THEN we stood out of the bus for a good while realizing we were indeed NOT late or even the last to fill the bus! He told us to get on the hot bus and then he counted how many of us there were...maybe 25 on a bus that carries 55. The poor people he loaded before us had been on the bus who knows how long. A head count can be taken in the shade of the trees just as easily. The only thing said to us, as we were un hooking our tubes and after hearing two tubes popped was, "apologizes," conveyed in an irritating manner. I told it was not a good way to end the trip by being yelled at. No tips. Won't use that company again. The girl at the counter who was helping everyone in the chaos of the crowd and registration was wonderful, helpful with a beautiful kind disposition. ​ read more

I was recommended River Riders by a friend for white water rafting and they did not disappoint! I went with my boyfriend for my birthday and we had so much fun! Our guide was incredibly friendly and responsive to our requests as we rode, taking every effort to direct us through the most exciting parts river, getting us completly soaked, and telling us about the history of the two rivers and Harper's Ferry! Overpriced and not organized. I reserved the cabin online and when I got my email it didn't show right for the days I wanted. I called them and they stated what was online wasn't correct because it was a holiday weekend. I don't understand why they don't show the correct amounts during the holiday weekend. I got an invoice stating I owed another 299 dollars, but they charged me another 384 dollars instead. They tried charging me twice for the linen package as well as the firewood package. We showed up and checked in and they had no idea what I ordered. They had my check in there but when I mentioned I purchased firewood, they sent me to two different people and got a small even though I ordered a large. I had to cancel the tubing event in plenty of time. I knew I would be charged 15 dollars per person but did not think they would charge me taxes on something I already paid taxes on. The plumbing both at the cabin and the bath house was the worst. Very overrated and overpriced. Cleanliness is not the best. Found a lollipop and a weed vape in the bunk beds. Coffee maker took an hour to make one pot of coffee. read more

My family booked a riverside campsite for one night. We checked in at their office, were given a parking pass with our site number, and drove to the riverside campground which was a couple miles away. When we arrived, another family was camping in our designated site, and also had the paperwork for the same site. We had been double booked. After a brief, civil conversation with the other family, we learned that the same thing happened to them when they first arrived: another family was camping in their designated site. They had to drive back to the office, and were assigned another site (the one that we had supposedly reserved). Annoyed at this inconvenience after driving a fair distance to get here, we headed back to the main office. We explained what happened and asked for another campsite. "Sorry, we don't have any available campsites for tonight." ‍ What is the point of making a reservation if you arrive and find out that your reservation was double booked? It sounds like this is an ongoing pattern, and only a disorganized, unprofessional business would be so careless of their paying customers. So, having nowhere to camp for the night because of this gross oversight, we went to the nearby KOA, which had plenty of available tent sites and plenty of amenities. Do not book a campsite with River Riders. They don't care about paying customers. We were told that we would get a refund, but I'll believe it when I see it. It seems like incompetence rules at this business. I am a lifelong camper, and this is the only time I've made a campsite reservation that got double booked. It's pretty simple really, keep track of your reservations. One reservation per night per site. How hard is that? I understand that mistakes happen, but River Riders didn't even make an attempt to remedy the situation. Their attitude was basically, "Oops, oh well! Sorry you drove over an hour to get here and have nowhere to camp!" If I could give them zero stars, I would. read more

We were on site 311. This review is strictly about the CAMPING part of River Riders. Warning to future guests, take their website seriously when they mention the cars honking horns 24/7. Their two river "view" sites are to be avoided. Better suited for 21' or under driveables. VERY difficult to navigate getting in and out w/a camper trailer (took us at least 20 minutes to get out of). We had feral cats conversing under our camper window in the wee hours of the night. The sites are packed in w/no privacy between. Ours was very narrow, not allowing the picnic table to be next to the camper, but in front of it. The internet was non existent on site 311 due to a hill between the router and the site. We could not even text. Old window style AC units on cabins next to us provided a lot of white noise :(. The two hour window to check in (2-4) is a little odd. If you check in 15 minutes early (to a campsite that was supposed to be vacated by 11:00am) they'll charge you an extra $15. WAY over priced. All that said the employees are phenomenal. read more

We are suggesting that instead of giving people a waterproof bag to bring back their trash, why not just encourage people to use a reusable/insulated water bottle instead of selling plastic to people who are about to go out on a river? We're aware of that. ----------- We enjoyed flat water tubing, but picked up other people's trash (mostly plastic water bottles and glass beer bottles). Really sad to see people so careless about bringing plastic and glass and leaving trash in such a beautiful area. Since River Riders depends on the beauty of the area for its business, it would be great if it only allowed people to go out on the river with REUSABLE bottles, not plastic, glass and cans. I had a great time here last weekend with friends! The staff is super friendly and their system for check-ins is designed to get parties on the water as soon as possible. I love how you can save money by purchasing your tickets online and save time by completing your waiver online as well. The tubes, life vests, and other equipment are in great shape. I really enjoyed flat water tubing and am hoping to do white water tubing next time. It is supposed to require additional safety briefing time, which makes sense. The flat water tubing is very low-impact and we saw lots of families and parties on the water. I would highly recommend River Riders for their accessibility of busses to get to the top of the river and back to their base. I really enjoyed this tubing experience and kinda wish we purchased the all day pass. When I go again, I'd try to stay more to the middle to avoid rocks and probably go earlier in the season when the water is deeper. Either way, it was still a lot of fun. I deducted one star because my friends tube deflated part way through and the communication with the office to get a new tube was difficult. If you're looking to spend the least relaxing and most frustrating 2.5-3 hours of your precious free time, go here for the White-water Tubing in a TubeTracker (red tube with a bottom, leg space, backrest, and paddle). You'll spend most of your time stuck on rocks due to the low water level almost everywhere (no, the water level did not appear lower than normal based on how far down it was along the banks) and because of the "fins" on the bottom of the tube. Yes, I read the warnings before going; no, I'm not 35 lbs over normal body weight, and yes, I'm physically fit and active. Our experience started out badly as there were not enough of the TubeTrackers for 10 people scheduled for this trip. As we waited and waited for more tubes to arrive with no real updates from the two young men unlucky enough to be on the short-end of this operation, the participants in the three different parties were left wondering when we'd ever get on the Potomac River. Finally, someone in my party asked for an estimated time of arrival of the needed tubes. One of the young men said the same thing had happened the previous day AND on other occasions. It had taken up to 1-2 HOURS. Unacceptable. I called the main number and explained the situation to another pleasant young man. He said he needed to speak with a manager and would get back to me. 3-4 minutes later, he came back to the call and said we'd have tubes in 10-15 minutes. Everyone in the 3 waiting parties seemed visibly pleased I had made the call. We all wondered how long it would have taken had I not been a bit forceful in letting them know how disappointed we were in their customer service. We chose this company because of these specific tubes and paid extra for them. How hard is it to coordinate your reservations with the number of tubes available? At the end of a grueling trip down the river, we had to haul the tube, oar, and any gear we had taken with us to make the trip comfortable (snacks and non-alcoholic beverages) up a fairly steep hill for the pickup bus. The bus trip is short (5-10 minutes). There is an open air gang-shower where you can rinse off upon exiting the bus. There are changing stalls and bathrooms inside the store. Do yourself a favor and don't do this. Maybe the flat-water tubing is good, but white-water tubing in the TubeTracker was horrific. read more

Our group had a good time thanks to the rafting leaders who were experience and also super fun (shout out to Talea!). However, our trip was slowed down significantly due to the low water levels and our rafts getting caught on rocks frequently. We came during mid September when the water levels are low, as our guides informed us. We had a large group, and were all planning on rafting, but they convinced the adventurous ones to try solo kayaking in order to relieve the weight that would've been in the rafts. We had three leaders, one in charge of the kayakers, and the other two guiding each of the rafts with 5-6 people in each. Even with the lightened load, we still ended up getting stuck pretty significantly, pushing what was supposed to be a 1.5-2 hr excursion into closer to 3 hrs. We had fun along the way and the views were nice, but it would've been better if there were more rafts so that each one could've been lighter. The rafting itself was easy--again, it was during the fall when water levels are lower, so there was never anything that challenging where someone was close to falling out. We were well informed of safety tips prior to leaving and the leaders did a good job of directing us. Honestly, we didn't do that much physical work, because whenever the raft got stuck, Talea and sometimes the other leaders would get out and pull the raft off the rock, which seemed like a lot of work for her. Overall, the experience was fun, but could've been a lot better if the trip was more organized to suit the weather conditions. I imagine it's not an issue during the spring. read more

You have to listen to a safety briefing which may or may not apply to you before you can go, but then they give your life jacket and send you off. We all had a great time slowly coming down the river. . You can stop, and just sort of wade in the water to enjoy it a bit longer. Definitely will be coming back! read more

On 6/22/24, one of my fellow tubers from our Facebook group lost her keys. She wasn't sure if she lost them out on the water or in the surrounding area. She was obviously distraught because she was from out of town and was using her parents' vehicle. A few of the riders stayed with her while staff members helped her search for her keys, and to no avail, her keys were never located. Luckily, one employee came through for her by offering the services of a locksmith that he knew. The locksmith quoted her a price and came within a reasonable amount of time, and made her a spare key so that she could get home safely. Thank you so much, Cade, for saving the day as well as all of the staff members who were so patient and willing to assist. Our whole trip to Harpers Ferry WV was to go tubing down the Potomac and River Riders did not disappoint. From a great scenic location to the plentiful parking, it was easy breezy checking in. I was last minute and did not book online, But thankfully the staff at check In were super helpful with explaining all our options for the experience. The training & safety videos were very informative (on the day we were here the weather had changed slightly and the staff was on top of letting us know that if we wanted to change our plans they were more then willing to accommodate)and getting set up with out PFD was pain free. The shuttle bus to the drop location was spacious and relaxing. Once to the drop location, the staff gave us our rented equipment and we hit the river bank with clear instruction on our path for the day. Our trip down the river was nothing short of amazing!!! I couldn't be more happier with the experience we had today. There were a few things i wish I would had more experience with, the exiting point on the river but after speaking with the staff after getting back we were reminded that it is still a national park so there are limitation on what they can do as far as signage. And lastly, the "hill" they make you aware of after exiting the river, its more than just a hill its a freaking mountain LOL read more

I do not recommend camping here! It's nothing like what the website shows. We were arriving on 8/20 and leaving on 8/22 and our original site was #14 which was classified as "river view". We called to get more info and ask about our river view and the gentleman working said "I don't know why it's called a river view site because there is no view at all." Why is it called River view?? So we switched to a Hike in island site for the better view. The don't maintain the pathway to the site at all. There was a tiny path that one person could barely fit through and it was overgrown and filled with poison. We called to check on the water level that same day because of how much rain the area was recently getting leading up to the trip. They assured us it was fine and that the water was going to be no problem at all. We also confirmed with them that a 10x14 tent would fit on that site. We arrived and the water level was WAY to high and there was no way our tent would fit unless we wanted to be in the water. The view was nice, but just sitting around your fire ring you'd basically be in the water. They never should have booked this site. We called to try and switch sites and they said we could have a mountain top site and that our tent would for sure fit. We walked all the way up there just to see that it once again will not fit. They do not clear the sites at all. Everywhere a tent of that size would fit, we couldn't put it because there was very large stumps left behind from where they cut down some trees. I understand it's the outdoors but they need to maintain their sites or don't tell someone a tent of that size would fit when they clearly don't know what the site even looks like. We were very frustrated at this point so we were calling again. Thankfully, "Mama T" the caretaker pulled up in her golf cart. She was way more help then anyone else that works there. She drove us around to 5 different sites helping us pick one that would be the best fit. If it wasn't for her doing that we probably would have just left and lost all the money we already spent. She is the only person who works there that we talked to that had any idea about anything to do with the campground. She even said that they shouldn't be booking the hike in islands if the water is that high. We finally got our site all set up around 9pm. Keep in mind we arrived around 7. It took that long to deal with all of the nonsense just due to the lack of knowledge from the staff. I messaged their Facebook several times just asking general questions leading up to the trip to be prepared. I asked if they had any outlets in their bathhouse and they told me that they did not have any and that they apologize for the inconvenience. When I arrived it was to my surprise to see 4 outlets in every bathroom! So 12 outlets and they told me they didn't have a single one. We feel as though we have been lied to and their website makes you think it's going to be something it's not. One our last night we had gone up to the bathrooms just to find that every stall was out of toilet paper. So we walked to the other set of bathrooms just to find out that they also had no toilet paper. The bathrooms were disgusting and not taken care of at all. Overall this trip was very disappointing. If it weren't for "Mama T" we would have never even stayed for the weekend. She is the only person who made this trip bearable. Everyone else was rude and did not care about you at all. They just cared about the money. She genuinely cared. We had an injury and she sat with us and helped take care of it. She genuinely cared about us having a good experience. Can't say that about anyone else. After all of that it would've been nice if they did something to compensate for all of the trouble and inconvenience. We will never be returning to this campground and I hope no one else has to go through what we did. read more

Great event staff and great fun. It was a blast and the guys on the zip-line canopy tour were professional and safe. Our family had a great time. Parking was the only exception... there were plenty of spaces up near the facility but we were made to park at the bottom of the tube slide. It's a steep hill and the sprinklers were on, making for a difficult and dangerous climb up to check-in. read more

This review is for the campground. I'm giving an extra star because we were able to check in early due to an emergency. We paid extra for a clifftop tent site with view of the river - there was no view, only trees. The tent sites were not level. Our neighbors were extremely noisy both during the day and throughout the night. They were up blasting music and talking very loudly until 4am; no exaggeration! The restrooms needed more cooling and ventilation for the hot, humid summertime. You can hear cars honking incessantly because of the nearby single-lane tunnel. The train, which is very close by and runs frequently, is loud 24/7. The campground store was in a semi-truck's metal trailer, but it did sell ice and expensive firewood. Overall, we were very unimpressed and will not be returning. read more

After staying at the local KOA a few weeks ago, we learned about River Riders. Today we drove from the DC area and purchased gold season passes. Saige was especially helpful and patient as we figured out the right pass. They are dog friendly too which is a big bonus as we have a pup that goes everywhere. Today we tried out canoeing around the river. It was so much fun. Every one was so cheerful and helpful -- from the people at the counter, those working the snack bar, people doing safety briefs, to the guys down at the water. We very much enjoyed our experience and look forward to many trips back. read more

NICE business practice Harry, make it seem like we didn't take your peace offering. My boyfriend emailed you last week after your reply to this and you haven't responded. SO much you could have done to make the situation right for those of us who suffered the long night of no sleep thanks to guests who were obnoxious and the fact that the camp ground host did nothing AND the wifi doesn't work (so no way to call anyone)...we shouldn't be expected to get in the car just to report them to someone who obviously didn't care anyway. We did a group "White Water" tubing event, but the water levels were very low so there was very little white water in our trip. There is nothing they could do about that, it's Mother Nature's fault. That being said, they advertise the trip as 2 hours, but since the water was running low, it took a little longer. I have used their service before, so I knew NOT to plan a trip on the weekend, because it's chaotic and there are masses of people. The shuttles are packed and often run late on the weekends so plan accordingly. They do a great job organizing everything and get people in and out as quickly as possible. Just a "heads up" - you will have to watch a short safety video before your trip, which is about 15-20 minutes. They have everything you need on site, so if you forgot sunscreen or shoes, they have you covered (they even rent shoes). They do nickle and dime you a bit, they "upsell" you for everything (e.g. they will rent you a locker for $5.00 to hold your keys and incidentals). Convenience comes at a cost, so you decide how much cash you want to throw their way...enjoy the ride. read more

When we arrived at the counter to check in for our one tent campsite the workers encountered an issue with us having a party of five instead of the recommended 4 (2 kids 2 adults) it got to the point where they asked if we wanted to speak to the manager because we were not looking to pay for an extra tent site as we all fit comfortably in the one tent hence why we purchased a one tent site. So as we were speaking to the manager, he proceeded to use what most would classify as a yell and an overall aggressive louder tone saying how it's more about how many people versus how many tents, which goes against what the website says as the website states, "Our river front and river view tent sites are for 2 adults & 2 dependent children/1 tent MAX." The way this was interpreted on our end was that if we had more than 4 total people it was okay as long as we had one tent, either way we do not feel as though we deserved to be yelled at. While yelling at us he explained how more than four people could be "disruptive" so some insight into just how "disruptive" we really were, we were all in the tent sound asleep by 9:45 PM which is more than reasonable for a Saturday night in July. Around 11:30 PM we were rudely awakened by a domestic dispute stemming between two people from the neighboring cabin site, as well as that cabin had been playing music at what I would consider an extreme volume. I find this ironic as the manager was worried about us being "disruptive" but i found us to be the disrupted. Very disappointing considering this site is a beautiful campground, but is being held back by management being focused on how many people vs how many tents. PS: Not to mention how this site is very close to train tracks that run at night that are also disruptive but you're right manager man 5 people really is disruptive! read more

Canopy Tour was top-notch- guides were patient, calm, encouraging and very safety conscious. Great set of runs. We did the 10:30 run, but had to wait for several kids in their kid camp, so maybe ask about timing if you have something planned for the afternoon. Enjoyed the tubing, but take note on head wind days and go ahead an pay extra for paddles or a 2-3 hour trip will turn into 5- still beautiful, peaceful and exilarating. Suggestion: In your video, take a picture of the pick up point- using the verbiage "Right " before gave us the impression it was right under the bridge- there is a clearing...with a path- so a video of the spot would be helpful or even drop a pin for those carrying phones. read more

DO NOT RECOMMEND. Way overpriced, unsafe conditions even in the lazy river. The water level was absurdly low so we were constantly getting stuck on the rocky riverbed. Every member of our party got scraped up terribly and I got a huge gash in my hand from tripping on the jagged rocks while trying to exit the river. There is no one available to help you if you're stranded or injured. At least my innertube waited until the last few minutes of my experience to spring a leak. read more

I had an Awesome time going down the river white water following who I think girl named Kayla as she was taking a group of people on a raft I was in a Kayak for the first time and I had a great Tour Guide watching out for my safety his name was Fox what a great guy I had a lot of fun he also shared some history with me about the river and Harpers Ferry. 7 of us, 4 adults and 3 7-year-olds spent a glorious and exciting day on the Shenandoah River on 9/11/2021. We had a wonderful time, and the rapids were bigger than we expected. Tube's are old and go flat halfway down the river. This has happened more than once so I won't be back. Even after you tell them it's leaking, they throw them back in with all the other tube's. Checkin is a nightmare too. Very chaotic and unorganized. They're more expensive than the everyone else. read more
