Meh. Asked for a 20 oz mint mocha with an extra shot. Very little mint flavor and not strong enough, so I went back and asked them to add a shot and more mint. Of course I'd pay for the extra shot and flavor. Instead of, "Oh of course, is it ok if I make you a shot and add mint to that? We're not allowed to accept anything back", I got some odd high pitched response about having to make me a whole new drink that I'd have to pay for. My eye roll was my only response. Found this coffee house while visiting Newark. Then outside is adorable, ferns, covered patio and good seating. Inside was large. Had a true coffee bar as well as the traditional barista station with bakery goods and breakfast sandwiches. Staff was super friendly. We had big expectations based solely on the cute exterior and interior. They use one line coffees and use a la marzocco machine so we felt confident. We ordered: a honey cappuccino made with oat milk, a red-eye, one breakfast burrito and a ham and cheese croissant. The red-eye was solid, no complaints. The breakfast burrito was made fresh but microwaved which leaves the tortilla a bit too soft, but still, it was really flavorful. However, the ham and cheese croissant lacked substance. The pastry shell doesn't fare well by the method they warm it up with and there was a lot (and I emphasize a LOT) of hollow inside, Also, not a lot of cheese inside. Wouldnt get again. The honey cap... i specidically asked if they had honey. They said yes. After it was made I learned they use a "honey" syrup that is they said was just honey watered down... so basically water and honey.... Not what I ordered nor was expecting. Adding water to my honey, well that adds water to my coffee and wow that made the coffee taste... uh... watered down. It had a lot of foam on it... they were def heavy on foam. Very disappointed in my coffee . I personally wont go back, though my husband thought it was okay for a red eye. We would both agreed we would skip the food. read more

My go to place for their house and dark roast coffee. The staff is accurate and friendly. The front patio is my choice on a nice day.

Yum! Visited for the first time today and went with my folks. We ordered two hot chocolates, a drip coffee, a cinnamon raisin bagel, a sausage-egg-cheese bagel sandwich, and a breakfast burrito with bacon. All of our food was tasty and so were our drinks. The bagel sandwich was unique in that the sausage was crumbled and mixed into the egg. We also enjoyed the patio seating. Overall, my experience here was a good one and I'll be back to try one of their specialty drinks in the future. read more

Stopped in for a quick iced coffee on a recent trip through Newark. This is located in the historic Newark square and has all kinds of coffee options, baked goods, and sandwiches. Right now the bar is closed and the service is takeout only, but really enjoyed our icy drinks to go. Any of the flavored espresso combo drinks are delicious! read more

It doesn't matter which River Road Coffee House I walk into, there is always a few consistent things that happen with every experience. 1. I am never rushed. I don't know why but when I'm at River Road I turn into the "I don't know what to order. Hmmmm... Everything sounds cool but not exactly what I want. What do you suggest?" I do this almost every visit and the barista ALWAYS has a smile and will ask me questions to help me make a decision. 2. The baristas are adorable and uber friendly. I am shooting 12 for 10 on friendliness. It doesn't matter the day of the week or time of day. Every single experience I've had the employees are sooo sweet. 3. The coffee is delicious. This of course is no surprise because they're serving up One Line which is my absolute fave. Here's a few cool things about this particular location. It's located on the square which has other cool places to check out. There is a private room available to rent. It shares space with a yummy Italian spot so you can get your coffee and a cannoli at the same place! read more

Ordered a maple latte and toasted croissant. A fantastic cup of coffee! Really smooth, no bitter aftertaste. The croissant was a bit burned on top, but quite delicious anyway. Flaky and buttery. Decent coffee and good location. But the staff isn't knowledgeable about coffee whatsoever. We tried asking the cashier simple questions about their roasts, and she had to call someone over who also didn't seem to know what they were talking about. Just disappointing because I used to be a barista and it doesn't seem worth my time to order drinks when I could probably make them better at home. Light roast is good when you buy a bag of whole beans though. It's a newer location. Hopefully they can train their staff better and get people in their that know what they're doing in the future. read more

There's no coffee shops around that do it any better! River Road has become my go to for all of my coffee needs due to their coffee selection and friendly staff. They also have a great selection of breakfast items to get your morning started right. If you have yet to try it I recommend you make it your next stop! read more
