We went in…read moreto this knowing it was on a busy road, but that was one of the bonuses, because we were in walking distance of everything. We really only heard traffic during the day, it was pretty quiet at night, and day traffic didn't bother us. We stayed in Winterberry, and we sat on the cute porch in the evening with citronella (my boyfriend is a mosquito magnet, lol) and lightning bugs. The bed was a little more firm than we were expecting, but we still slept fine. I should also preface that we sleep with a box fan on low for white noise. We were there during the week so there wasn't really any noise from other guests, only a few people were there. I will make note that you can see straight down into Winterberry from the door of the second floor cabin next door. We forgot to tell Debbie, the manager, about that, but it can easily be fixed with a simple window covering. There was no one in that room while we were there so it wasn't a big deal. Debbie was truly delightful, very sweet. She brought the biscuit basket we ordered for our final morning. The biscuits were really very good, they come in the cutest setup, with the biscuits sitting on a bread warmer. Great experience overall. If we vacation in Fredericksburg again, we will definitely stay here.

We stayed in Chinquapin the first night, and the cozy stone walls and super comfy bed made for a great evening. We moved to Winterberry the second night, it was a little more spacious with a much larger bathroom - can't wait to return in warmer weather to try the outdoor shower! We spent time by the firepit one evening and visited with other guests while enjoying wine and a cigar (him not me!). They have poker chips in your room you can redeem for a margarita at Los Tios, a nearby walk and a welcome change after all the wine! Don't miss out on the biscuits one morning - tasty and butter, jam and honey on the side, as well as fresh OJ. We will return on our next visit to the area to enjoy this hidden gem with easy, walkable access to the heart of downtown Fredericksburg.

After hearing that they are well known for their little B&Bs this one stood out among the rest for our weekend trip. We were going to be visiting on our 15th anniversary and lucky for us they still had some Saturday night reservations a few weeks before our trip. We originally had the Evening Star reserved but a lovely woman from the reception reached out to us upon seeing our reservation and asked if we wanted to be upgraded to the Weber House - for no additional charge! This was an absolute yes! What a nice gesture since they knew it was our anniversary - based on the questionnaire during check out. Some of the buildings are split with multiple room offerings- like the main hall- the Weber House however we stayed in was just us. We had a cute porch, living room, kitchen, bedroom, hugeeee bathroom with clawfoot tub and a screened in outdoor porch. Some of the bigger houses you can rent have room for multiple people but ours was intended for 2 people. They also have a cute library with some books and DVDs you can borrow. The property itself was VERY quiet. When we arrived we checked in at the little office upfront. The girl working even walked us to our little house since we had never been on the property before. Whoever stayed at the house the night before had broken the glass on the little table in the kitchen which was a bummer, so we could not use that, and maintenance was off on weekends. But otherwise it was the cute quaint place. Bed was comfy, central AC even though the buildings themselves pre-date that. Each one is unique too! We especially liked sitting on the screened in porch at night and enjoying a bottle of wine. In the morning they promptly left breakfast in a basket at 9am at our doorstep that was home cooked. It was a very sweet inn.

My wife and I biked the Willow City Loop, and we were able to leave straight from the Hoffman Haus without any issues. Think about an olden house with modern amenities like fridge, hot tub, TV, microwave, and electric fireplace. Thankfully, I didn't even have to churn my own butter. Just a few miles off the strip we arrived at the barn. One of four options when staying at the farm. Makes no sense to even beat around the bush, the goats, nearby donkeys, and the deer....WE LOVE THIS PLACE! Provided breakfast food from Lupe included casserole style muffins with sausage, eggs, cheese, and hash browns. Next days breakfast was similar with ham, eggs, and cheese muffins. Both served with sour cream, Serrano based red salsa, and fresh fruit from the local HEB. Nothing like strawberries and cantaloupe with a pinch of table salt. Again, old school meets modern. I knew the salsa wasn't made by a German! Finally, we escape from our own personal ranch to get away from our extremely needy cats and child. What do you get as temporary residents of said property? Old Mouser Cats! The herd was 60% I'm not even gonna let me touch followed by a few tidbits of love and screaming into the door you just entered to settle down. PET ME NOW!!! Sweet creatures. Made this weekend perfect! Note the Yelp pics of the diverse movie selections for your viewing pleasure. Young Guns was still in the DVD player followed by the wife's selections of murder mystery...murder mystery...followed by the local forecast. Hot tub was used by the wife; I had to abstain due to a recent surgery. Next time we visit the barn we will be in full force!

My wife and I celebrated our 1st and 2nd anniversaries here (April 5, 2005 & 2006), and the experience was--and remains--above fantastic. The Cottages: Seclusion & First-Class Comfort We've had the pleasure of staying in two different cottages, and both were absolutely amazing. The Village is located in a quiet, secluded area that allows you to truly disconnect and focus on your partner. Cottage Favorite Features Upper Frio Cottage Incredible privacy and a perfectly stocked kitchenette. Red River South Cottage The jacuzzi tub was a highlight for relaxation! One of our favorite parts of the stay is the breakfast delivery. Every morning, a freshly made breakfast arrives in a picnic basket hung right at your door, complete with all the trimmings. Enjoying that with the provided coffee, tea, or hot chocolate in our room was the perfect start to each day. Dining Excellence: Cabernet Grill The onsite restaurant, Cabernet Grill, is a true 5-star experience. The staff goes above and beyond to recognize special occasions. Personal Touch: They gifted us bottles of local wine labeled "Happy 1st/2nd Anniversary." Exceptional Service: Our server, John, actually remembered us from the previous year! That level of attention is what makes this place First-Class. The Perfect Location for Mission Success (Relaxation Edition) The Village is the perfect "base of operations" for exploring everything Fredericksburg has to offer: Wine Country: Easy access to incredible local winery tours. Downtown: Just minutes away from the charm of downtown Fredericksburg. Enchanted Rock State Park: We highly recommend heading there for a beautiful sunset--it is the perfect way to end an anniversary evening. Final Thoughts We are so thankful for the staff and the incredible hospitality they provide. We plan to continue returning every single year we are able to. This isn't just a bed and breakfast; it's a place where memories are made. Highly recommended!

So since we were celebrating my wife's birthday and our 46th anniversary this week, I booked the Pedernales Cabin for a couple nights. When they talk about stepping back in time, it is indeed appropriate. First, understand that there are "cabins" and "cottages" at this property. The cabins are hand-hewn log structures that were relocated from Kentucky and Tennessee to the grounds of the Cotton Gin Village. Whereas the much newer cottages are constructed with either San Saba stone, or plaster and timber in a style reminiscent of Texas Hill Country German Fachwerk. They blend well together to provide a very relaxing and welcoming "village" environment. We were greeted at the check in area and were quickly escorted to our cabin and provided all the necessary information, to include a wonderful bottle of wine that was custom labeled to celebrate our anniversary. Our Pedernales Cabin is one of the original cabins and as such had a real "old time" feel, but was also complete with the comforts you'd expect (king size bed, A/C, microwave, fridge, shower, bath, TV, etc.) While the comforts of home are there, one of the issues we had was with the water closet (toilet) that was extremely narrow with very little room to maneuver as needed to the point of almost being claustrophobic. Navigating around the furniture in the dark at night to use the bathroom is a bit tricky, so be prepared to do so slowly and carefully. That aside, a drink or two at the Gin Mill bar (located on site) topped our evening off nicely. The bartender Brett was amazing and a joy to chat with. Retreating back to our cabin, we were excited to experience the breakfast the next morning. The bed was very comfortable, but the pillows (for me) were too fat and I had a hard time trying to flatten one to accommodate my neck issues (no biggie really). The room was quiet and comfortable. Some folks have indicated that the road noise is unbearable, but I can only speak for the Pedernales Cabin, which was very quiet with no road noise at all. We anxiously awaited the 9:00 delivery the next morning, which promptly arrived at 8:50. I've included a video of the basket reveal to show what the contents were. The breakfast was wonderful! A fluffy quiche with ham, bacon, and cheese along with some chocolate croissants, yogurt, fresh fruit, and juice. We filled up and prepared for our day of wine tasting with Keidel Wine Tours (a separate review). After a busy wine tasting day, another drink with Brett at the Gin Mill, and dinner at the Cabernet Grill (another separate review) we came back and settled in with a little left over wine we purchased relaxing on the front porch swing to enjoy the evening. Another great night's sleep awaited us. Expecting another scrumptious breakfast, we were disappointed with the second day's offerings. Inside the basket was a (very tasty but way too sweet) French Toast offering that had chunks of French Toast covered in caramelized topping and baked in the oven. We couldn't finish it due to the excessive sweetness. This was accompanied by 2 sausage links and a couple small slices of ham (not bacon as listed on the breakfast card), that had good flavor, but were just too darn salty to eat. So we enjoyed the fruit and yogurt instead. Another faux pas was that unlike our first morning's basket, there were no napkins included inside the basket. We made do with the paper towels from the kitchen sink area, so it worked out. It just seems to me that second day breakfast did not have as much attention paid to it as day 1. Overall, it was a wonderful 2 nights spent on the property, even with the breakfast issue on day 2. We will definitely return to check out one of the other cabins or cottages in the future. There are lots of options around Texas for romantic spots so that doesn't sound too hard, right? Well, it wouldn't be if you weren't dealing with a hormonal, PMSing girl with mad food cravings because she's trying to be good and eat low carb to squeeze into the size-too-small bridesmaid dress that she ordered. Too much info? I digress. We hit the wine road towards Fredericksburg and after seven wineries, 42 tastings, and six bottles later, he brought me to the most adorable place I've ever stayed at: Carriage House. In case you're wondering, it was just as adorable the next day when I was more sober (my photos don't do the place justice). The outside of the main house was pretty, but no, we weren't staying in the main house- he did better than that. Off to the side of the main house was a little cottage standing by itself. "EEEEE, we're staying in there?!" my tipsy self gushed. The girly squeals only intensified after I saw the interior of the cottage. Hubs had outdone himself. A few tips for first timers: Dogs under 30lbs are allowed to stay for an extra $10/night. You have your very own private parking spot that is literally right next to the cottage. Once parked, you will find a little gate about a yard in front of your car; the gate leads right to the front of the cottage. In addition to the usuals that are provided at a hotel, the cottage is also supplied with dishes, silverware, and wine openers. Just check the drawers around the kitchen sink. Towels and extra toiletries are located under the bathroom sinks, and there is a step stool located underneath the (very high) bed. If you're short, use it. If you've been drinking wine all day, use it. When in doubt, use it. You're not actually served breakfast in bed here. Instead, you're given $10 vouchers (one for each guest) that can be used at several popular brunch spots in Fredericksburg. If Carriage House had a cheesy slogan, I would imagine it to be something along the lines of, "Carriage House: Drink Wine and Fall in Love." So friends, drink wine, fall in love, and check this place out. But don't try to book on my birthday weekend. Because it'll be mine.
