Ambiance: Large Bavarian style brewery in Fredericksburg with a large dining area and outdoor patio area. Dog and child friendly! We love their beer and their sausage. Fun vibes outside with our dogs and always great music. We liked being about to scan the QR code outside to quickly order and maintain our tab without having to go inside. Ample parking onsite. Great decor and ambiance!

This was our first time dining in the restaurant and it did not disappoint. There was a line outside waiting to enter for Sunday brunch and I can see why. Loved the eggs Benedict and corned beef hash. Everything was expertly prepared and so delicious. Love the atmosphere and friendly service. This is a must-do place for us to stop each time we're in the area.

It ain't bad, just be aware of the racism at the restaurant, the lady who seat us complained about us being hispanic. We don't really care, just be aware that they don't want us here, as she said " These F*** Mexicans"

Sat outside and ordered via qr code, it took 15min to get my drinks, not bad given they were packed. The ambiance outside was nice with shaded tables. However the women's bathroom was scary. There was a water leak that had clearly been there for a while as mold had started to form. No way could this have been overlooked or unknown to management as it was very visible

I've been a fan of Altstadt for years, but on our most recent visit I was disappointed in the food. Food: Ordered the Ruben and beer onion soup combo. The soup temperature was a little too low, and the cheese was not very good. The Rueben sandwich was totally disappointing- greasy and bathed in either oil or butter which ruined a potentially great sandwich. Service: Excellent service Ambiance: Germanic cabin theme Beer: Excellent beer Overall cleanliness: excellent

This was a pit-stop on our way to our cabin destination. So we stopped and had a drink and appetizer for the taste-testing of it all. I had the flight because I'm always indecisive on beers or ciders to try, but found that they were all pretty good (even for someone that doesn't like beers THAT much). I am a stout fan and really liked the "Boch." It was really busy, as it usually is as a "tourist spot" yet we got a seat at the bar to fasten the wait. The pretzel was yum 6/10-would have loved another sauce to try.

Known as the "Castle" Altstadt Brewery was a very cool place to visit. We got there right when the opened to enjoy another German lunch at the Restaurant at the Brewery. The restaurant had the old luxurious look with lots of wood. I ordered the Jägerschnitzel and Altstadt beer from the tap. The service was great and no problem parking outside. The Jägerschnitzel was prepared different from what I had on Main Street in Fredericksburg, but still had great flavor and prepared very well. After eating we explored the rest of the brewery and found a large tap room with big windows to see the formation tanks. There was both indoor seating and outdoor. Souvenirs can be purchased here and took home a six pack and beer glass. Its was definitely a place to stop on our way home.

Beautiful place. Hard to call it just a "brewery"

Brewery #373 This place is like the Biltmore House of breweries. It's beautiful and huge! If they didn't have a big sign out front, you definitely would think you are in the wrong place. We came in just to get some beer, but it had more of a restaurant feel than traditional brewery. We sat in the bar area, and whenever I go to a new brewery, I always get a flight to try multiple beers. Altstadt has flights but they are prefixed, you can't make your own. Slight irritation but nothing major. I ended up getting a more German style flight with a Kolsch, Hefe, Lager, and Amber. They were all good with the Hefe being my favorite. I am usually an IPA fan, and they had one, but I was not able to try it. We weren't that hungry, so we just ordered some fries with beer cheese. These were crisp little pillows of heaven, and the cheese was a perfect dip. The menu was heaven on German food, but there's a wide range with some upscale items as well. The place was probably too fancy for me and my Homer Simpson hoodie, but they were still accommodating. Next time I will wear better clothes and have dinner but let me pick my own flight please.

We came to Fredericksburg for the weekend and ended up stopping at Alstadt a couple of times. They have lots of indoor and outdoor seating spaces great for large groups or couples. The staff is some of the friendliest that I have ever met and the overall hospitality is fantastic. The only thing holding me back from 5 stars is that the menu items are hit or miss when it comes to an enjoyable meal or man I wished I would have ordered something else. Dishes I would highly recommend, their chili, the peach bruschetta, the mashed potatoes are some of the best I have ever had and the chicken and waffles!

Service was great from the greeter to the rest of the team. Food was fresh and well made. No music outside what really helped to keep a conversation going. Busy but was Sunday lunch hour so was expected. Plenty parking space! Big rooms and knowledgeable people to help you with your choices. Woman's restroom can use a detail cleaning and floors needed to be mop. That is why I give a 4 star review.

Altstadt Brewery never disappoints no matter how many times I visit or what the purpose is. I've gone for bar food and drinks and full sit down meals and it has all exceeded my expectations. For this visit we ate in the restaurant area for a full meal. The sandwiches we had were as delicious as they look in the photos. We definitely got our moneys worth and our bellies filled! The service is always great no matter where you are from the bar to the outdoor area or the restaurant, and this visit to the restaurant area was no different. Our food came out quickly, perfectly cooked and delicious. The decor in the restaurant conveys with the rest of the old German style building with a cozy feel. This is a great place to stop for a meal or a snack and some great beer when visiting Fredericksburg.

We came here on a whim. First time and it went really well. We sampled several items. We had the pretzel, Bavarian sausage plate, kids cheese burger, house chips and something else with meat and cheese. Beware of the mustard. A dab goes a long way. The server was polite and attentive even though he was very busy and even making drinks. The ambiance was kind of like an upscale lodge. They do brewery tours which we may book next time.

    Yes and sometimes preferred.

What beverages are offered for the under 21 or non-drinkers that just want to eat?

Hi Sara! We have a full line up of non-alcohol beverages available to guests of all ages! We hope…

Are we still able to come in for drinks or is it only curb side?

They were seating people for drinks and food both inside and on the patio when we were there in September 2020. I'd call them now for current availability.

Not only was it the first restaurant to show up on Yelp (very highly rated), but also it was OPEN. While it may have been an accident that we chose Otto's, it was a lucky break. They were awesome. It was very busy, so we had to eat on the patio, but our table had plenty of shade and a nice breeze from a wall fan. It's a block off the main drag, so you don't have to put up with lots of traffic going by. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food didn't take too long to come out. It's great the way it is, and trying to make it fancy doesn't make it better. But I've always thought that if a restaurant has only a few options on its menu, they had better all be great, and I didn't find that to be the case at Otto's. One of us had the schnitzel au gratin, which seemed more to be like a chicken Parmesan. I had the duck schnitzel. I would say they were just both OK. The fried potatoes that came with the au gratin schnitzel were left largely untouched on my companion's plate. There wasn't much flavor to my red cabbage, and my spaetzel seemed to be more like a modern day risotto. And this at a restaurant that makes you leave your credit card for a reservation and threatens to charge if you cancel less than 24 hours before. For that, it had better knock my socks off. But my socks are still on, and they won't be walking back to Otto's. Extra star for the great location.

For those that have issues finding parking on the Main Street, it's good to note that they have a small lot in the back for customers as well. Alstadt Peach Radler - Top of the list of what I personally enjoyed at the Auslander. This beer was a light, crisp, and refreshing beer with a hint of peach flavor. Definitely something to enjoy on a hot day. This was my happy place drink. Beer Battered Mushrooms - The shrooms here were better than most other German establishments I've dined at. Reasonably sized mushrooms with a non overly heavy batter. Portions were bigger than expected and would readily satisfy a group of four. Jägerschnitzel - A fair sized slab of fried pork goodness smothered in a red wine mushroom gravy. The pork loin was a good thickness and not an overly pounded thin cutlet. Breading was good, but didn't stick much to the protein. Gravy was just okay in my opinion and had a hint of sourness to it for some reason. Not a terrible entree but wasn't mind blowing either. Currywurst - The bratwurst with this meal was a solid portion of meat that was full of porky goodness. Curry ketchup had the spice flavoring to it, but wasn't particularly strong. It was a fair entree, nothing mind blowing, but still a good comfort dish. Sides - All the entrees came with a choice of two sides. Fries were just fries... good, but nothing special. Mashed potatoes tasted like the usual suspect, mashed potatoes. Potato salad was properly cooked and prepared with some simple vinegary and cream flavors. Red cabbage tasted like vinegared red cabbage. All in all, the sides were just okay. Everything was for the most part clear cut of what was good and just okay. In that terms, there seemed to be a strange and wildly large chasm between what was okay and good in terms of the food. I was satisfied at the end of the meal, but at the same time not unhappy nor super happy with my meal. I was just... satisfied/okay. Food felt a bit overpriced for what we received, otherwise this establishment felt more like a one-and-done type of place.

When I ordered it, I was astonished when the waiter said, "Can I steer you away from the sauerbraten? It's... inconsistent. It can be fatty with grizzle." He continued on, "One lady sent it back. I chopped it up and gave it to my dog - and the dog wouldn't eat it." Well, that ringing endorsement certainly didn't make for an appetizing start to dinner. I changed my order to roulade with red cabbage and a dinner salad. My wife had the jaegerschnitzel with spaetzle, red cabbage, and a dinner salad. The food itself was fine. The brewery was the first place I ever had a scotch egg, my dad would get a small beer flight, maybe we'd get a brat, he made it fun. I'm pretty sure it had just opened back then. We got into town, checked in at the Trueheart Hotel, and immediately walked to the brewery because I was so excited. I probably went in to this with the unrealistic expectation that it would be the same as when I was a kid. It had a great start. The hostess was nice, and our server was, too. I wish we had gotten to sit in the back room with the long tables, We started with the beer flight and a scotch egg. The beer flight was okay. I was expecting really good German beers, mind-blowing, but these were just fine. A pale ale, an IPA, a flat porter were on the list, just not a memorable selection, although the red ale was good. The flight was a good price, though. For our appetizer, I wasn't expecting such a small scotch egg for $9. I mean, it was really small. I've been to several places around my area for scotch eggs, and they're usually $11-12 for two and they're properly sized. But we're on vacation and I wanted nostalgia so fine. It was delicious, and the creole mustard the scotch egg comes with was divine. More on that later. For our meals we tried both schnitzels. I was disappointed they don't have spaetzle, I'm pretty sure they used to. My boyfriend had the schinken and I had the jager. I don't like ham but his was infinitely better because of the gravy. The gravy on the jager schnitzel I got was heavy with some seasoning, maybe sage. It's all I could taste, and I couldn't just push the gravy off because my pork was fried to death. I barely ate any of mine. The sides we got (you get two per plate) were German potato salad, fries, onion rings, and vegetable medley. The fries and onion rings were great, especially when dipping in the creole mustard we saved from the scotch egg. The German potato salad is supposed to be sweet and sour and my boyfriend usually likes it, but this was way sweet, he wasn't a fan. The vegetable medley was good, but seemed really out of place as a side, normally with schnitzel you'd expect green beans or a salad or something, we got broccoli and squash. They did have a side salad, but it was $5. Not sure why a side salad couldn't just replace the two sides for no upcharge. I will say the rolls were awesome. At the end our server let us sit and hang out for a few minutes, he didn't rush us. We asked if they sell the creole mustard in bottles but they don't, so he said we could pay $5 for a togo container of it. We got probably a cup, so I was fine with that, I really loved it that much. We paid, I noticed he charged us $5 for tarter sauce that we didn't have, figured it was the only way to ring up the mustard. We left with our prized creole mustard. Cut to this weekend when we opened it to make a sandwich, and what we actually got was tarter sauce, so somewhere along the way he'd forgotten what we asked for. We live 200 miles from Fredericksburg, there's no fixing that, but maybe that's on me because I should have checked it. They really should sell bottles of that mustard, it's very good. Overall, it just wasn't the experience I was expecting. It's not the same, it's been over 30 years so I totally understand, and I did try to be fair with my critique. It wasn't great, it was just okay.
