The service here is painfully slow. The food is ok; nothing special. Don't expect to get out in less than an hour and a half for two people. I went to HH here the other day. It was super busy, but the staff were great. She was attentive and it did not take long to get our appetizers. We tried the blackened ahi tuna and wings (maple chipotle). Everything was delicious! They have high top tables for seating. I wish I could leave a review on the food however I wasn't able to order anything. Even though they are open at 4:15pm you can't order off the right side of the menu until 5:00pm. Hubby and I decided to go out to somewhere we haven't been before. We traveled from va bch and found ourselves at Riverstone Chop house in suffolk. After making sure we could get in because there is a dress code. Casual wear in the Bayside, button up shirts and fancy to the dining room. We sat at the bar in front of the oyster shucker section. They were busy large parties, people sitting outside, and the tables and Bartops were full. We patiently waited for someone to come over which took about 5 minutes, no biggie as we were watching plates go out drinks being made and could read the board specials. Bartender came over took our drink order and I was hoping she would expand on specials but she did not, no problem I can read. We ordered the steak bite app roll, Ribeye added a wedge salad, filet topped with crab and lobster with broccolini,mashed, and a sauce. The steak bite roll was nothing to scream about it was basically just steak and rice, I noticed the guy didnt put all of the steak bites brought to him for the roll into the roll, but instead left them on a plate for him to nibble on. I'll expand on that later. I will say there was a piece of steak in every slice of the roll. So maybe it wasnt suppose to all be used I dont know. As we were waiting for food yall know im always looking around and paying attention to the crew and how their business works. When we first walked in there was a gentlemen talking to a couple of ladies next to us, as the night went on we realized he was a manager. We saw him talking to different tables but not once did he say anything to us. I wish he would have because then I could have asked him why the guy who was shucking oysters wasnt wearing a glove when plating oysters after removing them from the oven. Why his towel that he was wiping the counter with NEVER saw a sanitizer bucket, and was it proper procedure for him to wipe down the oyster shucker tool with his dirty apron and put it into the holder on the counter, and to eat the steak that wasnt put into my roll as I watched him pick up the plate with the extra bites which was already missing a few pieces and take it to the back after removing the bites with his bare hand from the plate. With all the said I probably won't order anything that is prepared in this section of the "kitchen". Our food came out steaks cooked perfectly medium rare. It was warm to the touch not overly piping hot. I had to give half my crab cake to the hubby because I didnt like the mushy texture in the middle. It was good not a lot of filler at all. The wedge sald had a decent amount of toppings on it. We both had to add extra seasoning to the food that was provided on the side. We ended with a black forest cake which was rich. All in all we had a decent experience it wasnt a knock your socks off type. we would come back, however its not a OMG I have to go here place for us. Food was good, I cant speak on the bar drinks because we dont drink, the service was lacking only because they were busy, but we understand that part. So I would recommend that if you do sit in the bar area move closer to the tvs, or sit at an actual table in the bar area. read more

Great brunch!! Myself and friends dined here last month for the restaurant's first time hosting brunch. Overall, it was good. I ordered the shrimp and grits and a holiday drink or two. River Stone is definitely a jewel in Suffolk. My favorite time to visit is for happy hour. And dine at the bar. The vibes are always high. The happy hour menu features drinks and food at great prices. Some of my favs: the egg rolls, the sliders and all the drinks :) Parking is never an issue. The staff is always friendly and ready to make your dining experience memorable. I highly recommend you check them out. While dining at the bar, around the bar is cool, the table seating in the dining room is a pleasure too. I have not ventured upstairs, but one day I will and I'll let you know. Our waiter was very attentive and the manger walked around to every table asking if everyone was enjoying their meal. My steak was cook to the perfect temp which was great to see. Mines consisted of an 8 oz Filet Mignon topped with tasty crab and lobster and canes with a side of smashed potatoes and a huge stalk of broccolini! My man substituted his toppings for steamed shrimp instead and they were jumbo. We both went with the medium-well cooking option. Greatest decision by far due to the fact it comes a little charred! Extremely tender and succulent. Seasoned to Gods! Another 10/10 WE RECOMMEND!!! I ordered a strawberry lemon drop and it was perfection. Left with the chocolate German cake for dessert. I'm never disappointed when I dine here. The staff is friendly and helpful. Lots of cocktail and drink choices. A handful of cocktails. The high top bar seating area adjacent to the outdoor patio is casual with its own version of menu items in addition to a few from the main dining room menu. The magic is in the main dining area where you are spoiled with attention. Your every whisper becomes a reality. Someone in my party asked me if I'd ever tried a certain item - I had not. Our server brought out a sample with multiple utensils for the entire table to try it. I love that level of care and attention. The non steak options also stand up to the steaks so don't feel limited by the beef forward menu. Everything is seasoned wonderfully and presented at temperature perfection. Went here after a full day of family events and it was a treat to cool off and enjoy a good meal. Casual-ish if you ask me. They have a dress code which makes it seem like business casual is proper but sadly that was not the case. Dress code says no ball caps yet a few males had them on. Service was excellent and the drinks were quite tasty. We shared some apps for the table and they were well prepared. I recall the calamari as being exceptional. Everyone enjoyed their meals and we had a range of seafood, chicken, and steaks. No complaints except my steak which was nicely done but served just more than room temperature. Cook temp medium rare. It was perfect. Accompanied by mashed potatoes and broccolini. The shrimp were cooked perfectly. Service was fantastic. I can't believe I've never posted a yelp review for this place, as I've lived in the area for more than a decade and regularly eat here! If you are looking for a more upscale dining experience with top-notch food, then this is the place to go in the Smithfield/Suffolk area. Along with Vintage Tavern and Decoys, this place takes a lot of pride in serving locally-sourced fresh ingredients expertly prepared. There is a different menu for the dining room than in the bar, as the bar is really geared towards a "happy hour" vibe with working professionals dropping by after work. The oysters are always superb and beautifully presented. I have had nearly everything on the menu and can recommend all of it. I chose Riverstone Chophouse for my husband's birthday dinner, and unfortunately what should have been a special evening was overshadowed by poor service, food quality issues, and overall guest management from start to finish. Early in the evening, before we were even seated, we were told the restaurant was already out of several basic menu items such as crab dip and mac and cheese. This was during early dinner service, not close to closing time, which immediately set a disappointing tone and forced our group to settle for items we would not have otherwise ordered. Because this was my first time dining here, I was uncomfortable placing a deposit or card on file for a reservation. I called ahead and arrived over an hour early, alone, to confirm accommodations and was assured the restaurant could accommodate my party of 12 at 6:30. When we arrived as a group, we were seated fairly quickly, which I appreciated. However, we then waited at least 15 minutes without being greeted, offered menus, or acknowledged. Drinks also took an unusually long time to arrive. We had children with us and specifically requested that their meals come out quickly. Instead, the kids waited nearly two hours for chicken tenders. During this time, we consistently watched smaller nearby tables receive prompt service, frequent check-ins, and timely food delivery while our table was repeatedly overlooked. I feel it is important to share that our party was a group of 12 people of color, and the contrast in service compared to smaller white parties around us was noticeable. Whether intentional or not, the difference in service and attentiveness added to an already uncomfortable experience. As paying guests celebrating a birthday, we expected to be treated with the same level of care and respect as every other table. I ordered oysters as an appetizer, which arrived with no utensils, sauces, lemon, or setup of any kind. Despite asking multiple times, nothing was brought. When entrées finally arrived, my New York strip steak was barely warm while the plate itself was extremely hot. The scalloped potatoes were undercooked, hard, and every slice had a large rotten spot in the center, making them completely inedible. I was unable to eat at all that evening. To make matters worse, the stool I was sitting on was broken and unsafe. When I stood up at the end of the night, the entire cushion slipped out from under me, and I nearly fell. Before leaving, I spoke with the manager and expressed that I wish I had been told earlier that the restaurant was not prepared to properly accommodate our group. I do want to give credit where it is due, the manager did comp my entire meal, as well as my husband's meal and the children's meals, which I appreciated. While that gesture was acknowledged, the overall experience was still deeply disappointing, especially for a birthday celebration. For these reasons, I am leaving a two-star review and hope this feedback is taken seriously so future guests do not have a similar experience. read more

Solid 4.5 I've always wanted to check this place out. Went here on a whim as a buddy and I have been going around trying all the major steak places in the area. So coming in, it's quite nice for sure. The visual aesthetics of this place definitely set it up for an elevated experience. Looking at the menu and servings, it's a tapas style serving and you have to be prepared to spend a bit (but that's given ahead of time if you're reading the $$$ amount. What's neat is that they do things like a traditional chophouse and do the cuts on-site. Kind of a neat flair and you can definitely taste the difference in the cut of the steak. So overall, the food was very delicious. The server we had was amazing and super friendly. The cuts of the meat were on point and the sides we ordered we very good. Expect to spend about $60 a person and if you're good with it, then it's all good. Come out to enjoy. I have paid much more for steaks than this place and made more expensive cuts for my consumers the way they wanted. Our steaks were bland. They came butterflied and past well done. He had an attitude the rest of the time. We were a party of 5 adults and all 5 of us had expensive steaks. The men at the table had rare steaks and still, they weren't tasty. None of us were impressed so it wasn't "on me because I ordered my steak overcooked". The Brussels sprouts were very good I will say that. The dining area was pretty and there's a dress code- posted at the hostess desk- although I saw multiple couples in clothing that wasn't appropriate. The waiter is so loud there's no dining peace. I have been here multiple times. We typically have Carly who's PHENOMENAL. We had Joanne who immediately was not pleasant and was very sarcastic when we had questions about items on the menu. We had the prime rib special. It was delicious and cooked perfectly. This was the first time of many that I've been asked to box my own food. Which I'm totally fine with, but it threw us off. The dessert order was messed up and then she left in the middle of me talking about the dessert. Which was never fixed may I add. She walked by us multiple times getting other checks and checking on other tables. However, we waited for a box and to get the check for close to 15 minutes. Overall the service was meh. Visited here about a month ago on a work trip, service was phenomenal and the guys behind the bar were awesome. Ordered a rib eye medium rare with sides and an app and you can tell they cook the steak too cold almost fresh out of a very cold fridge without warming prior to cooking. Very rare center with an almost well done ring around the outside. Everything still tasted great and the oyster special was fresh but I can get a better temp on a steak at home. First review out of Florida so I'm excited, my dad's wife brought me to this cute little spot. The ambience is very chill and it wasn't too busy (went around 6:30ish). I love that they have a one page menu with great options and a separate drink menu with several options. I got the peach mango sangria which is absolutely delicious. Very light and sweet, had peaches in it as well which was a nice touch. I asked my server Taylor what he recommended and he definitely knows his menu, very knowledgeable and made a really great one with the Ny strip steak(I ordered it medium) with a blue cheese butter with roasted Brussel sprouts with bacon onion jam. Whew let me tell yawl how my mouth is exploding with happiness as this meal was so full of flavor. My steak was made to perfection and the Brussels were beautifully charred and loaded with fresh crispy bacon and onions. I couldn't even eat it all in one sitting lol. Went last night for date night/father's day and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We got to our reservation a little early so we got a cocktail at the bar while we waited. We both ordered the pineapple margarita. Once we were seated at our table we received great service from both Jennifer and Toni. Both were very sweet and friendly. They even sent over their manager who was is a sommelier to explain a good wine pairing for our main course. We ordered the oysters Rockefeller, we split a Caesar salad and had the surf and turf for two (which was AMAZING!). My boyfriend treated me to the tasting menu at river stone chophouse for my birthday. I really enjoyed the ambiance and the experience. Since we specifically came for the tasting menu, it was a bit disappointing that our server did not know much about the wine or pairings. Also while I realized it was a paired tasting menu, the restaurant was inflexible when it came to tweaking a single wine option. I'd recommend this place but would hope that my next experience would include a bit more attention to the details. read more
