We just had the most wonderful stay at Lamb's Victorian Inn. We only stayed for one night -- just a quick overnight getaway. Janet is absolutely the perfect hostess. The reservation process was easy, and she made sure we had everything we needed when we arrived. We found a list of local restaurants on the dining table, which was very helpful. (Tip: If you're going downtown for dinner, don't drive -- it's a nice walk from the inn, plus it's hard to find parking downtown.) The inn is in a quiet area, and we slept quite well in Lola's room. In the morning, the breakfast Janet made was incredible! Egg and cheese croissant sandwiches with fresh basil, thick sliced bacon, fresh fruit, juice, and coffee. One of the best meals I've ever had! The grounds are lovely. There is a pool and a hot tub, and plenty of places to sit and relax outdoors. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, so much that I wish we could have stayed longer! My wife and I just stayed here mid -week for an early Valentines Day. We stayed in the Lotta Crabtree Room with the Jacuzzi tub. It was a beautiful room. Had a wonderful visit with Janet and John Lamb, the owners. Had an excellent breakfast. If you are going to stay in a Grass Valley B&B stay here first, you won't go anywhere else. It was my first time staying at a bed and breakfast and I really enjoyed my stay at the Lamb's Victornian Inn. The hosts were great, very nice and friendly. They had wonderful compimentary freshly baked cookies when we arrived in the evening. The breakfast granola they served with the fresh fruit and yogurt were also delicious. The location of the Inn is a couple of blocks from downtown Grass Valley. An easy walk. They have a good variety of shops and eating places (restaurants, cafes, ice cream parlor, etc..) Nevada City where they have the old historic buildings is a short drive away. Their was also a Christmas Bazaar at the Church across from the Inn. They sold arts and crafts, some antinques, home made jams, and lunch plates. They have the bazaar every year, the first weekend of November. The shops downtonw also have their Christmas Sales the first weekend of November. Will certainly keep that in mind for next year's visit. It was a perfect time to visit Grass Valley with the changing color of the leaves.. The weather was perfect, low 70s. Will defiinately be returning. It's only 3 hours away from San Francisco. Willl also have to see how Grass Valley looks like in the spring. read more

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights during the Nevada City Christmas market. It was very pleasant. The accommodations were just fine, I've never stayed at a bed and breakfast before since it's a little too personal for my tastes. That being said I was very pleasantly surprised. The hosts are incredibly friendly (which you would think is just a given). Not just friendly though, they are genuinely good people. The house was cozy, we stayed in one of the rooms that had a bathroom. Bathtub was very big and jetted, that made the stay worth it to me. read more

We had an awesome, albeit short, stay here this past weekend. My husband booked pretty last minute as he decided to take me to Grass Valley for my birthday spontaneously. They were very accommodating and made the process easy for him. The grounds and exterior of the inn are truly beautiful and immaculately kept. We were greeted by Janet who is soo sweet! She showed us around our room and the inn, pointing out the complimentary freshly-baked cookies (delicious) and showing us the variety of drinks (even beer!) for guests in the fridge. We didn't know before booking, but they also HAVE A POOL AND HOT TUB, and they are both in a beautiful courtyard! We got in the pool shortly after arriving. In the 95 degree heat, it was perfect. John came out and skimmed the pool for us as we were getting in, but there were only about 5 leaves in it. Hehe. These innkeepers like things tidy, and it really shows with this Inn! Our room was downstairs. There are four rooms total, with the fanciest being upstairs I think. I was a little concerned at first about our room's proximity to the dining room. In general the inn is pretty small, so you should be prepared to see and chat with others occasionally. The other guests staying wanted to have an early breakfast, so I figured we would probably be woken up by them. We got some earplugs at Safeway just in case. For really light sleepers like myself, you may require this if you are staying in the downstairs rooms and the inn is full of people or if other guests want breakfast at earlier times. Janet and John are SILENT getting breakfast together, and the other couple staying were pretty considerate of the fact that our room was close to the dining room, so combining this with the earplugs worked out great for us and we had a good sleep (even though I am 8 months pregnant!). The bathroom in our room was awesome! Huge jacuzzi tub, which we didn't use because of the outdoor pool and hot tub. Love the shampoo and conditioner they provide, and the fluffy robes! The bedding in the room is very soft and comfortable. The breakfast itself was really delicious. Sometimes, B&Bs go too heavy on the sweet/baked items, but not here. We had a truly wonderful baked egg and vegetable strata with sausage on the side and a fruit assortment to start. For us, having a protein-heavy breakfast is ideal. Also, the meal wasn't over-the-top huge, which we have also encountered at other places. It's hard to eat so much food first thing in the morning, and I hate wasting or insulting the innkeeper by not being able to eat it all! We were really satisfied/full afterwards, but not overly so, and we ate everything! A VERY well-executed meal. Great coffee too! We had a very nice talk with Janet and John over breakfast about living in small towns, having kids, etc. We enjoyed getting to know them. They called a local store to see if if was open for us and made sure we had a bunch of information about Grass Valley happenings. But I definitely get the feeling like if you chose to keep more to yourselves, they would pick up on that and generally leave you alone. Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend this place to friends. It's beautiful, close to town, has very comfortable rooms with nice amenities, personalized touches from the innkeepers that make you feel welcomed/pampered, and a great breakfast. We will definitely stay here again if we come back to Nevada County, though we may spring for the upstairs rooms where you are a bit more removed from the common space! read more

My husband and I stayed one night in the Marilyn Monroe room during our recent weekend visit to Grass Valley. The house is inviting and owners John and Janet make you feel right at home. The friendly owners made sure we had everything we needed. They pointed out that there were drinks in the fridge and the best way to get out to the hot tub. The breakfast of French toast, thick cut bacon and fresh fruit really hit the spot the next morning. We would highly recommend this lovely bed and breakfast to anyone staying in town. read more

We recently had a death in our family and many of our family members needed a place to stay. Lamb's Victorian Inn opened up their doors and allowed us to fill every room! They were so gracious in our time of need and we couldn't be more grateful. It really felt like home away from home. John and Janet Lamb are such wonderful hosts. We had a work retreat at the Inn and it couldn't have been better. The rooms were very comfortable and the breakfast they prepared was out of this world! The inn is appointed in the traditional Victorian style with beautiful antiques. But that isn't the best part. The hosts Janet and John Lamb are gracious and good cooks! The Inn is one of many Victorian homes in this small, former mining town, but this one has the distinction of belonging to friends of my sister & brother-in-law. Although I have not met them, I could tell by walking in the door that John & Janet want their guests to feel at home. Clean rooms, comfortable beds, on a quiet street near the many shops & restaurants are reasons to return to the pleasant atmosphere of the Lamb's Victorian Inn. Although I haven't had the pleasure of actually staying here, the experience I did have would bring me back to stay in a second! I stopped by to check the place out and was greeted with such warmth and enthusiasm from the owners, John and Janet. The inn is beautiful! So charming, quaint and clean. Janet more than happily gave me an extensive tour and gave me some insight into the history of both the inn and the town of Grass Valley. For just moving here, she certainly knows her stuff! With reasonable rates and an ideal walking distance to downtown, I could see this inn as being the perfect place for a quick getaway or a longer vacation. She was also able to inform me of outside activities to do around town which I will certainly take advantage of when I come back. All in all, I had a wonderful first encounter and am looking forward to returning to for a visit! What a great contribution to the town of Grass Valley! read more
