Not sure if this experience applies to every room in the theater but watching Wicked in showroom 5 was ridiculously awful! The movie quality was poor, hindering the film & eye pleasure, and the sound was too low. The screen is also smaller than the image being projected so it cut off some of the image! I didn't feel immersed into the film at all! And I can confidently blame the theater and not the film because this was my second viewing of Wicked, my first viewing at AMC was excellent. Truly disappointing. Also, contacting this place is nearly impossible! You will never get through on the phone line with them and they respond to emails daaaays later! read more

Entered to see movie at 1:15 on a Monday. We were the only group that we saw in the theater. Men's bathroom did not appear to have been cleaned from the night before. No paper towels, "material " in one of the toilets and it appeared that there were 3 employees. If it is true that you can judge food prep based on the bathrooms, then I am glad that I didn't order anything. read more

5/5 for exactly what you expect honestly. It's a small theater with a 90's feel. Older chairs that are very comfortable and very nice staff. We saw beetlejuice 2 at its last showing and the theater was clean, nice, and quiet. Prices were extremely fair and will definitely come back due to this main reason. Didn't end of getting any food bc we ate before the show. Movie was good sound and picture quality. Parking is good but is quite small so during busy hours it may be a tiny bit harder. read more

Ok so I know what most of you are that are local are thinking like why such a high rating?! Honestly I need to take out a personal loan just to go to the movies now and if they serve alcohol forget about it, time to take out a 2nd mortgage! Going to the theaters after COVID has become ridiculous and with all of the little bells and whistles they add on it's just another up charge. That's why I appreciate a bare bones basic movie theater. Does it need some love? Yes Does it have a whole lot of movie variety? No Is it out of the way? Yes Do they sell popcorn, drinks, and candy? Yes Are the seats machine reclined? No Can I come watch a movie for $6 a ticket? Yes Can you choose your seats? Yes just like the old fashioned style where you have to show up early and pick them out on the spot. Do a lot of people come here? No While I appreciate the fancy theaters sometimes I just want to be able to watch a new movie without dropping $40 to 50 per person every time. Unfortunately, it's a 2 star tonight. It's mid summer and to have NO AC inside is a potential medical emergency for some. To pack in a theatre for the Barbie opening you GOTTA have AC. Was nice to see all the young adults dressed in their favorite Barbie costume. Happy to see people having fun and just showing up to a movie. Staff is nice and yes, many are young teenagers which is probably their first job. But didn't really see a Manager or Lead Staff Member addressing the issue. Some people left, was very balmy and hard to breathe. If an Investor/s came in and gave this perfect location an overhaul, it could sparkle again. I know Covid had a lot to do with the unfortunate condition it is in now. So if you don't mind a hot sweaty packed room and lack of air, this is your spot. Barbie was amazing, the theatre needed love, pride in their uniforms and desire to have a safe space with adequate air for everyone. Please do better D'Nice. Bless this theater hiding in plain sight adjacent to highway 76. A reminder of what was... For the enjoyment of the movie-going experience of the past, from tickets at prices that won't obliterate your wallet if you take your entire family with you, to the aloof teenagers taking your order for popcorn and high chance that they're out of nachos, to the classic, nostalgically uncomfortable, seats that don't recline, this is where you want to find yourself. This theater is a tiny treasure if you want to just SEE A MOVIE ON THE BIG SCREEN and not pay for the outrageous bells and whistles of the modernized theaters where you must now pre-select your seat! No. You walk into the theater, refreshments in tow, and survey the seating situation for the best angle to the screen like days of old. And speaking of refreshments...taking the whole family to any other theater nowadays will run you up about $100 between tickets and snacks. Never a better time to pick you a favorite child and only that one gets food... At this theater, tickets and treats for all is anywhere from $30-50! I'm sold. Is this theater, physically, in dying shape? Oh, totally. It's trashed and doesn't look to be getting fixed any time soon. Should you NOT use the restrooms here because they're hardly maintained and smell like a pee pee storage unit? 100%. Go potty before you arrive. As far as COVID safety measures...not going to find them here, I assure you. Mask up, hand sanitize, and find good seats with adequate spacing from others. As locals we've been through many trials with River Village Cinema. The air conditioning was out for two years, then the plumbing left a sewer smell that was so bad you could not stay if your theater was near it, let alone buy food. Today was yet another problem. The theater was freezing. The employee said the HVAC did not work at all anymore so it could not be heated or cooled. With 40 degree nights, you know how cold it was inside. People left. It's hard not to want to support the theater, but it is criminal to sell tickets to people with the conditions as they are now. To make matters worse, all emergency lighting was out. It was pitch black and you could not see enough to find a seat let alone find the exit. Had there been an emergency or a loss of power it could have been very dangerous. I'm sorry, but they really don't deserve the support of the hood. read more

Bianka was great and I appreciate her for trying to do the right thing and put customers first. The manager (I believe his name is Chris), on the other hand, has a lot to learn about customer service and hospitality. This was one of the worst experiences I've ever had as a patron at a movie theater. . I went with my brother and SIL to watch a Dec 31st, 11am showing of "Spider Man: No Way Home". We arrived a few minutes late because we were making sure that their kids were settled in with the babysitter. As we checked in and purchased concessions, we were told that the movie had started a little bit early. The manager clarified that it was about 10 - 15 minutes into the movie. This was not a big deal and we proceeded to the theater. . At our surprise, after an hour and a half (12:38pm), the movie had ended and we watched both end credit trailers. Obviously, the manager had lied to us as this movie is about 2.5 hours long. We left the theater and talked to Bianca. We told her that this movie was supposed to be 2.5 hours long and it's already done. We asked if we can come back and watch the first hour at the next showing which was at 1:15pm. She apologized and said that was fine. Also, to compensate for the inconvenience, she offered us 3 movie passes. We were grateful and said we will come back for the next showing after grabbing a quick bite to eat at the JITB across the way. . After returning, the manager, Chris, intercepted us as we were walking back to the theater. Chris had the audacity to ask for the compensated movie passes back because "we were watching the movie again". No, sir, we were watching the first hour of the movie that we missed because you had lied about the movie starting 10 - 15 minutes early. Come to think of it, you probably never started the 11am showing and put us in the 10am showing instead... a complete disregard for our schedule. As another reviewer mentioned, this theater is poorly managed. This manager is a prime example. . I've been to this theater a few times before, prior to it becoming "River Village Cinema is D'Place". All other visits have been pleasant. Unfortunately, this time was not. We'll see what happens if we visit this theater again. Hopefully, Chris will have better training or better yet, Bianka will have become a manager as she has a better sense of hospitality and customer service. read more

Went to see the Barbie movie last night. I usually go to the Regal theater in Oceanside but decided I didn't really want to drive that far so D'place was it. I regret my decision and should've just driven the extra miles to Regal. I have never been so hot watching a movie before. Having no AC is a no no especially during the summer especially when the theater is packed. If you're not going to have AC then don't put a premiering movie in said theater. The prices for tickets are nice and they played the movie which is two thirds but no ac really makes my decision that much easier to drive right by D'Place as I head to Regal. The staff was really nice but no AC turned the experience from great to terrible. read more

What the heck happened to this place?! It used to be our fave neighborhood family type theater. Now...it's a disastrous pigsty. Website describes extensive COVID cleaning. What a joke. They didn't even pick up the popcorn mess and other garbage on seats and floor in between movies! Old is okay. Dirty and neglected is not. Bathrooms are also gross. We were the first to arrive in theater 2 and it was pitch dark. We had to ask employee for lighting so we didn't trip to our seats. Then movie began without lights being dimmed and we had to ask for the obvious again. This place is being operated by clowns. My bet is this place will change hands yet again or shut down before long at this rate. Something is very off here now. Nasty. read more

Don't waste your time with this theater. After spending $54 for two tickets, a large popcorn and large coke, I find out there is no A/C! It's mid July! We went to see"Sound of Freedom" and theater 5 was packed. This was our first time at this theater and our last. Place was thrashed, dirty and management told me the air conditioning had not worked in 2 years. Someone please take this place over and revamp! read more

We will definitely be coming back here versus any of the other theaters!! Management has poor customer service and carried themselves unprofessionally. I'm a mother of two young kids and finding time to take a break to watch a movie is a big hurdle. I have to time my nursing sessions with my baby and secure a babysitter who would be able to accommodate not only my schedule but the showing that the movie theater provided. Luckily, I was able to obtain both of these and purchased tickets to watch 'Spider-Man: No Way Home" at 11:00am on New Year's Eve (I'm so lucky!!!). I went with my husband and his brother. We arrived late to the movie because we were making sure the babysitter had everything settled with our kids. When we arrived, we overheard the manager, 'Chris,' inform other patrons that the movie had started 10-15 minutes early. That's not a big deal to me - but when we continued watching the movie until it ended at 12:30pm, we realized we had missed approximately an hour of the movie (the movie is 2.5 hours long). We spoke to 'Bianca' about this mishap and she apologized, and offered 3 guest pass movie tickets for another movie for another time. We asked if whether we can just watch the first hour of the movie at the next showing, which was at 1:15pm. She agreed and allowed us to bring food from Jack in the Box to also compensate for our inconvenience. When we returned to the movie theater, we were stopped by 'Chris' and he acknowledged that the movie did start "a little early," and that he needs those guest passes back because they were for this 1:15pm showing. I told him that we were told that these passes were for a different movie and that we can watch the 1 hour that we missed. Chris mentioned that we might be able to get those passes back. I asked him again to clarify, so we WILL get these passes back? His response was that: "I don't know, I have to check with upper management." I returned the passes to him and walked in to finish watching the hour that I missed. Afterwards, I asked Bianca whether we will get our passes back since Chris is no where to be seen. She apologized and said she has to check with upper management, and apologized for the inconvenience. We left disappointed in the customer service and the neglect of any compensation for our time lost. Keep in mind that I had commitments to our babysitter and my baby that needs to be breastfed at a specific time; all this inconvenience to us! If only Chris carried himself professionally, and at the minimum apologized that the movie started an hour early (instead of lying) and offered someway to make it right, I think this theater would be doing a whole lot better. I've been to this theater in the past when it was AMC, and I never had this type of trouble. read more

Ok, as long as you accept that this is a discount movie theater, you'll like it! If you're expecting something fancy, you might not. The prices cannot be beat! Like less than $7 on a weekend for an adult ticket! And the food isn't expensive either. Great popcorn especially. And they have Snowcaps (one of my fave candies!). They show current movies here, not ones that have been out for a while like other discount theaters. If you buy online, you get a discount. Always parking available. Last time I went, I forgot my phone and so couldn't show my ticket that I bought online. I was sad! But the employee said I could go in anyway and believed I had bought a ticket! Thank you! This place is a nice little establishment in a very convenient location with prices you cannot beat. I see a lot of low reviews that are negative but we got to remember this place took a hit with COVID and perhaps they are trying to build the business back up. Yes, there is room for improvement but people likely know this before they enter the doors. This place isn't going to be an extravagant "HOLLYWOOD" style theater for a ticket price that doesn't break the bank. Staff I see always try to do there best, also remember this is likely a starter job for most teens so be patient! I see many of the Staff putting up with abusive, rude and disrespectful Customers doing it with a smile and the strong WILL to not react back the way they are being treated. Remember these young adults likely don't get paid enough to put up with the Abuse from the Customers. I have been going here for a long time. This movie theater is very hidden and very cheap. Since it's a very old theater it needs a renovation!! The seats are old and ripped and it gets really dark when the movie is playing you can't see the floor. There is not lights on the floor to see where you are going. The stuff are so nice and friendly. Come river cinemas it's time to get a new look. And you will get more people coming! read more

This is the worst theater I have ever been to. The entire building is filthy and needed to be renovated 2 decades ago. Chairs and walls seem to have a permanent grime to them, and the bathrooms are about the worst I've ever seen. If the vibe was just a bit gross I wouldn't care that much, but multiple times my movie going experience has been ruined by coming here. One of the screens has a huge hexagonal shaped tear that has just been stapled back into place which as you can imagine is super distracting. Half the time the speakers aren't configured correctly so you literally can't hear what's happening because of the music in the film being too loud or sometimes the music is turned all the way down and you're left with the awkwardness of a film that has its soundtrack barely audible. The lights have been left on while the movie has been playing multiple times and I've even had the wrong movie be played. Tickets are cheap so it gets 2 stars, but if you care about the movie you're going to see, don't come here. read more
