Classic, old school diner. No frills with low counter seating and tables but a super friendly team that doesn't stop moving and takes care of you. Good food cooked fresh. I have since been to River's Edge a few times now as there are not a lot of choices in the area. I have since been surprised by the food on occasion in a good way. I've had good pancakes and eggs. My partner really likes their corned beef hash. The negative is that I've had a not great omelette with tough and volumenous bacon so I've been avoiding meat here. The cleanliness of the restaurant is very poor, but there is something about the 80s ambiance. A place that time forgot or the owner just does not care to update. Coffee: Still bad and has an aftertaste. Please add a filter to your water or rinse your dishes better? Bring Cash. They don't take cards. We thought we would give the diner a try after reading the reviews (and looking for a place off the expressway). It's a cute old time diner with a u shaped bar counter (hurt the knees to sit at - being 30" off the ground). Biscuits and Gravy were from a can, not real sausage. Not much favor in the egg sandwich. I took the day off from work to stop at a bunch of places between Saukville and Sheboygan. I left early enough to have breakfast somewhere and the good reviews for Rivers Edge led me there. I ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese omelette with a side of crispy hash browns and one pancake. I don't know if I've been more impressed by a place that I wasn't sure what to expect at. As of the point where I'm leaving this review, they had 46 other reviews for an average of 4.7 out of 5, which is really good, but most of the pictures of food were from 5+ years ago, so I had a hard time gauging if I would like it. If you like bacon, order the bacon, egg, and cheese omelette. It doesn't look like much on the outside, but this thing was absolutely loaded inside with thick cut bacon. I wasn't asked what kind of toast I wanted, so I assume they only have white toast. The two slices had nice globs of butter in between, so I didn't have to dress them up on my own. The hash browns were spot on. A little bit of flavor from the butter or oil they were cooked in and perfectly crispy like I asked for. I added a little salt and pepper on top and that's all they needed. Like the bacon in the omelette, the pancake was thick, yet managed to be fluffy and have some crispiness near the edge. Honestly, I think this is one of the best pancakes I've ever had. I put a little syrup on it, but I probably didn't need to because even without the syrup it had some sweetness to it. The prices were very reasonable and the portions well sized. There was a small group of construction workers at a corner table that looked close to my age, otherwise all of the customers in this packed restaurant had at least 15 years on me. Not a problem, but it fit in with the old school diner feel of the place. Some of the customers and the waitress were chatting it up like they knew each other, so they've definitely got regulars that stop often. I'm jealous of them; I can't wait to come back. Simple food prepared expertly by very nice people. Rivers Edge is in the middle of nowhere and was recommended by one of my husband's co-workers. It's a breakfast and lunch only kind of diner, with a big overall counter and maybe 12-15 tables. So it's small but they move tables quickly so any wait shouldn't be too long. Most of the people here are regulars but anyone will be made welcome. The menu has all the expected breakfast classics - pancakes, eggs, waffles along with hearty options like a smoked pork chop. Prices are CHEAP - most (very large) breakfasts are around $6. That's good because it's CASH ONLY. The Mister went for the smoked pork chop and I had biscuits and gravy and added a few eggs (cooked perfectly by the way). Prices are crazy low, diner itself is clean but clearly a blast from the past, food quality is very high and portion size is generous especially for the money spent. The food was good with the exception of the corned beef hash. I know some people like the canned corned beef thats mushy but it just doesn't do it for me. I prefer large chunks of corned beef in the hash with some nice crispy texture. Other than though the rest was great! I ordered my eggs over easy and they came out perfectly, cooked just enough that i could move them to my toast yet nice and golden runny yolk when taking that first bite. I always get a little in my beard but its sooo good lol. The bacon was delicious as well, nice thick cut that was crispy yet still juicy from the fat on it from a local source in port washington. The portions were hearty and the service was good. The cofee was really good too. A lot of regulars. I don't care for the only cash thing but if it helps to keep the prices down and fair so be it. This place is great. I am from CT and was visiting new family in Wisconsin. It was a bit of a shock to see two eggs and hash browns (like a potato pancake) for $1.50. I live in NYC now and wish I could find a granola bar for that price. Anyway the food is awesome, some of the best breakfast I have ever had. The cook looked like one of the owners. She was very talented. She moved at a consistent pace and prepared every dish with precision. Over the course of three days, I tried the french toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, and the amazing hash browns. If you are in the area, this is a great place to grab breakfast. I was not able to eat lunch there, but I am sure it is good. My only complaint is the lack of a fresh fruit salad. The waitress actually laughed at me when I asked and said that it was too expensive to store fresh fruit. So 4 not 5 stars. Also, as I am not from the area, the local patrons immediately looked at me and my family when we entered. They gave us a look that said, "What are you doing here?"
