I went here for the first time in awhile I remembered they had really good onion rings last time I was there i arrived and The menu was completely different. They didn't even have onion rings anymore. I ordered a double smash burger with fries which came to $30 and they charge for refills which I think is crazy especially since the original first soft drink you get is almost 4$ The burger was bland and super oily and the homemade fries wasn't the right move. They were oily as well and just not good. I remember this restaurant used to be good like their food was good last time I was here. I don't know what they changed, but they need to go back. We are on a mission to find good happy hour options in Oak Harbor. This one came up on the list. This review is not for the food, we didn't stay long enough to have any appetizers. The lounge was freezing. They put in a little space heater when we arrived but it didn't help much. Service was excellent which is why it is a three and not a two. There was no happy hour pricing and the beers were surprisingly expensive. We won't be back for happy hour but may try the brunch at some point. read more

This place was ok. We came in for breakfast on a Tuesday morning and it was pretty quiet but our server was very nice and patient with us. We ordered margaritas to start and they were good but not great. Hubby ordered a breakfast burrito with chorizo and he said it was meh..apparently the chorizo was more like traditional breakfast sausage. I ordered the country potatoes and my eggs scrambled on the side for my munchkin to eat. The potato's really didn't have much flavor at all, just crispy deep fried chunks of potato with sides of guacamole, salsa and sour cream. Unfortunately the other negative reviews are accurate. We've been here twice and it's just not good. If you enjoy overpriced frozen food, this place is decent; otherwise I would check out other places in town. If you do brave going here, make sure you check your receipt because they will overcharge you and add on additional fees for items that would typically be included at other places (ie marinara sauce for mozzarella sticks). read more

The food was pretty awful, the food was 20$ for food that could have been 5$ the fish was rubbery and tasted like artichoke. The clam chowder was lukewarm and had texture of mashed potatoes. The two stars are for our two waitresses who were kind and very nice. Its pretty sad and the room is very small and needs new paint. Overall my summary would be a overpriced diner. read more

Let me preface this by saying I've never eaten inside but I've ordered take out many many times. The French dip is fantastic, but the bread was just ok. The best onion rings I've ever had, they make the perfect beer batter. Cheese curds are awesome! We recently had their burgers and I was seriously impressed, you can tell they were freshly made and the house sauce is really great. The wings are awesome as well I just wish they didn't share the same fryer as the fish for their fish and chips because you can kinda get a fishy taste sometimes. It was my first time here. Before it was the Riverside Cafe, it was a Mexican restaurant, which was awesome. Although I've only gone there once. It was a small little cafe, the interior was simplistic and very cafe-like. "Please seat yourself" is what I love! Freedom! As soon as we sat down, we were presented with menus and asked what we wanted to drink. I ordered my usual water. The menu had a lot to offer and the prices were very reasonable. I chose the spinach omelette. It came with hashbrowns and toast. Let me tell you, it was the perfect amount. You know how Denny's and IHop gives you a giant portion of the omelette and small portion of hashbrowns and toast, or whatever else you order? Well, this was the perfect portion. Everytime we come in they always ask us how we are doing, they get our food and drinks out super fast and even though they are a little pricey for some people it's always a great treat for me and my husband to go. We stopped by for a late brunch on a very cold and rainy day in Oak Harbor, never having been to the Riverside Cafe, but wanting breakfast-y type foods. This place far exceeded our expectations! It was after 1pm when we arrived so there weren't many people in the restaurant but there was a VERY steady stream of people getting take-out. The staff was super friendly and accommodating (we have a service dog) and the service was great - attentive but not overbearing. What I was really delighted with was my breakfast - I never write reviews but I felt the need to as the food really was great for both my husband and I. It is diner food but done extremely well. I had the Santa Fe Scramble (vegetarian) with hash browns and the hash browns were some of the best I've ever had - golden brown and crispy on the outside, creamy and tender on the inside and, best of all, perfectly seasoned. Everything was piping hot and the scramble was chock full of vegetables and cooked perfectly; the buttermilk pancakes (included) were tangy and fluffy. He had the Riverside Scramble and had the same experience. The menu does look expensive on paper, but for us the portions were so large, we have leftovers for tomorrow, so the price was worth it to us. Will definitely return! read more

For lunch I ordered the turkey Cobb salad. I was super disappointed. The "turkey" was like a super processed loaf diced in huge cubes that was just mush in my mouth. No flavor, no texture, and not like any turkey I've ever tasted. Lettuce was starting to brown. I was downtown and thought I'd give it a shot. Maybe they are better at breakfast or something? We went to the Riverside Cafe since they serve breakfast all day. After an upcharge for a corned beef hash omelet and fruit instead of potatoes; two omelets and two coffees came to $40. I think that is excessive and I should have checked their menu before going. The food was just okay. I saw that they charge $4.50 for a side of fruit but with the omelets they were a $ 1.50 upcharge. I would not have been happy had I paid $4.50 for sliced oranges and apple. Lesson learned. read more

Try it again! The quality of the food had improved tremendously and they have a new menu. Last year I ate here and the food was just okay- now it was the perfect classic breakfast. Came here for brunch, we live in Oak Harbor and had never tried this place before. Brunch is my favorite, so when we walked by yesterday during the music festival we figured we'd come try it on Sunday. Prices are crazy expensive for what it is. I get inflation, but $20 for a basic breakfast is extreme, especially with such small portion sizes! I had the chicken fried steak and eggs, it was probably the worst I've ever had, very flavorless, warm not hot and everything just tasted bland like flour. I got a pina colada as it sounded good and I don't often see that on menus around here. It tasted like straight syrup, no alcohol and was thick like syrup. I sent it back nicely cause I just couldn't drink it and was told it's a pre made mix, yikes! My husband got a burger and he said it was decent, fries were lukewarm and the plates just looked half empty and kind of sad for what we paid...Our waitress was the only good thing about our time there. She was so nice and accommodating when I didn't like my drink and checked on us often. The food just isn't good unfortunately, sadly we won't be back! read more
