I am from New Jersey, and was staying at the Delamar in Greenwich last weekend. When I was ready to leave and got in my car I tried to open the door with my remote and my battery had died. I am mediately called AAA, Byron of Riverside service came to my rescue. He arrived within a half hour so there is no long brutal wait, jumpstarted my car within minutes, calibrated , showing me things I didn't even realize it was cool. I would not recommend this towing company. One of their tow truck drivers, CT License Plate 11408, was tailgating other cars down High Ridge Rd. in Stamford and dangerously weaving through traffic but wasn't able to get anywhere. Absolutely unconscionable. Negative stars!!!! These guys completely ripped off my 81 year old mother to the tune of $1,750. She is on social security and this wiped her out. I am a car dealer and had my mother's car completely gone over prior to giving it to her just months before. The car needed none of the work done. The work they did was not done correctly. I was still on the phone with them, when one of their trucks pulled up offering assistance. Can't get faster than that! Okay, so I lucked out that one of their trucks was near. They stuck with the price originally quoted for a tow, even after the situation became more involved than initially anticipated. After I got home and googled the place, I got a little nervous because of the reviews here . . . since I had opted for them to do a repair. But everything was great. Oh, and that price for the tow was a third less than a tow from another local service in 2005! (Similar distance; both on Sunday evening.) And their price for gas is on the lower end of the spectrum for around here. They've got a new customer. read more

I waited close to 2 hours for a tow from this company when my car broke down on I-95, just one exit away from the company. I was given an estimated wait time of 30-45 minutes. I called 7 times to see what was going on, each time I was lied to: "he's fueling up and coming to you right now, will be there in 5", "he is literally around the corner", "he'll be there any second". I hate being lied to so I felt compelled to write this review. They are NOT reliable! Also, I had my breakes looked at by them a few months ago for a squeak and they told me I needed new breaks. I paid for new breaks and a few weeks later, the squeak came back. I sent the car back and the squeak came back again after a few weeks. Only thing I can conclude from my experience with these guys is they are incredibly dishonest (probably never gave me new breaks) and incompetent. read more

Horrible!!!! Been waiting for OVER 3.5 hours for a tow -- and my car broke down less than 3 miles from them!!! Have twice been misled about arrival time -- the dispatcher was unabashed about being unresponsive. Caveat emptor. This place is woeful! Update: been 4 hours now. And still being lied to about arrival time, as is my insurance company. For the past hour, we have been told several times that a tow truck was "on its way" and would "be there in 10-15 minutes" and then, a half hour later, "15-20 minutes." This company is literally UNBELIEVABLE. Not to be trusted. End result: after the otherwise frustrating experience and waste of an entire day, Mark -- the guy who came out for the tow -- was terrifically nice, smart and even jumped my car (my battery had died because my hazard lights were on for four hours as I waited for the tow!). I first got intro'ed to these guys through a AAA tow, and while picking up the car they offered to fix it a good deal less expensively than the dealer would have. They did a good job and were priced well, so we've brought a few other car repairs to them over time. In my experience, they're honest (if a repair can wait until next time, they'll tell you, rather than immediately recommend replacing everything with factory parts now), inexpensive (relative to dealerships), fast, and the repairs have been rock-solid in my experience, no problems. I feel very comfortable taking our family cars there, and think they're worth checking out, if you're looking for a new service station. read more

Beware! I do not normally write reviews but the service there was so bad I felt compelled to warn others. They are swindlers. My front tire was bent inward as a result of a hit and run while my car was parked; requiring a tow. Riverside Service came to tow it and offered a 10% discount if I fixed my car with them. I figured why not but this would turn out to be a huge regret. It took them a week to provide me with a quote for the work that needed to be done. I called multiple times requesting a quote and was told they won't know until the parts come in; in every experience I've had with other mechanics, they usually provide a quote PRIOR to ordering parts. After a week of not receiving a quote I went down there to pick up my car (with a different tow company) and tow it to Hank May's Port Chester. They then told me that I owed them $400 in storage/lot fees for keeping the car there for a week which was solely due to the fact that I was waiting for them to provide me with an estimate. Effectively Riverside Service was holding my car hostage, so I in order to avoid an out-of-pocket expense I decided to keep my car with them. They then replaced the steering rod which my insurance company covered. However after 3 weeks of driving I was hearing strange noises from the area that was hit. I brought it in to Hank May's (phenomenal service btw) and they told me that the steering joint should have been replaced as well and were surprised as to how Riverside Service did not spot the issue. Because it had been 3 weeks since the original fix I had to pay $450 out-of-pocket to fix my car. In short, their business practice is sketchy and the work that they do is sub-par at best. Do not bring your car here to get serviced under any circumstances. As a side note, a friend of mine also recently used them to have her battery replaced and it ended up costing her $300 for a BATTERY CHANGE. read more

Yesterday I visited Riverside to arrange for a long distance tow today. The dispatcher said I should just call at 11:00 this morning and they would arrange to pick up my vehicle by 1:00. When I called this morning as instructed, he told me they were backed up because of heavy traffic and I should call back at 1:00. I did so, and they promised to be at my house at 1:45 to pick up my vehicle. When 1:45 came around with no truck arriving and no call from Riverside, I called again. A different person said the dispatcher was busy and couldn't talk to me, that they were "having a problem with one of their trucks" and that the tow was off for today. He suggested try again tomorrow. Having wasted several hours already waiting for them to show up, I declined. Summary: Unreliable, poor customer service and, in my opinion, full of questionable excuses for not doing what they promise. My advice: Stay away from Riverside and hire Lone Star in Stamford. read more

AAA towed me to Riverside garage. It was late in the afternoon, but two mechanics quickly took a look at my car. They clearly explained what the problem was. They suspected that Toyota might have issued a recall for the broken part and, while they were happy to fix it for me, they suggested that I speak to Toyota first because I might be able to get it fixed for free. It turns out that they were right. They towed the car to the nearest Toyota dealership and it arrived only a few minutes after I did. That was the fastest tow I had ever had. I didn't have any work done, but they didn't charge me for the diagnosis. Everyone was friendly and seemed competent. I would go back. read more

Have always been towed by Riverside and all good with that (had a very unreliable Audi, so used them via AAA a lot) We don't buy our gas there, nor have we used them for mechanical, but a couple of years ago our daughter's car had an unfixable flat & Riverside towed her & put 2 new tires on the car (AWD) I now own the car and got a bad flat on one of the older tires one year after Riverside replaced the 2 tires (flat was not on one of those). This time, I took the car to Town Fair Tire in Norwalk CT, who said because the car is AWD, I had to replace all 4 tires (is this really true? if so, Riverside didn't do that, so wonder what the real deal is about this need to replace all 4 tires if only one is too bad to fix) Anyway, I replaced all 4 tires, and Town Fair gave me back the 2 tires that Riverside put on a year ago, and said they were "very very good" tires (Cooper's) and that I should sell them on Craigslist, Long story short - not only did Riverside NOT take advantage of our daughter when they could have, they also made sure to put really good tires on the car for her. So our experience is a positive one, with Riverside; I'm sorry a few others had problems. I have yet to find a mechanic who is perfect, but then none of us is perfect at any job 100%, even doctors, so this is the norm. Still hurts, but sort of expected. I have a problem with the car's a/c now, so trying to decide which of all the mechanics we've used in the past, to try to fix it. It's always a crap shoot. Might let Riverside do it.... read more

RUN!!! These guys are there only to suck up every last dollar they can rip from you. My wife's car was across the street and wouldn't start and needed a simple jump. The mechanic walked 30 yards, jumped the car in 20 seconds and charged her....$65, yes $65 bucks!! Outrageous not only because of the amount but they never told her what they'd charge for a simple battery jump. When I went to talk to them and ask they reconsider, they threatened me "... You better leave mister because nothing good is going to come from this..." is what they said in a menacing voice. After reading all these other reviews, it's amazing that there isn't some sort of consumer protection agency that just shuts these guys down. read more

More negative reviews are posted because people are, naturally, upset when things go wrong. Completely understandable. However, AAA make its share of mistakes as well. My experience with Riverside Service was, conversely, OUTSTANDING. They were polite, explained what they were doing, and gave great service. Additionally, the mechanic, (Joey), helped save me money, and was completely professional. Needless to say, the office staff was busy, but not too busy to let me down! read more

Thankfully, Benny from Riverside Service, Inc was sent to help us after we got a flat on 95S. He was knowledgable and helpful, after a rough night for us. We had a suburban which we were told is harder to get the tire out from under the car! not for Benny!!! He helped us quickly and with a smile. Had my car for over 5 months with no work done to it and the charged me over $5k on repairs I didn't authorize

I've broken down twice on the Merritt Parkway in CT twice. Once in my Tacoma and most recently last night in my VW. Both times AAA dispatched Riverside within 30 minutes and I was on my way home. I called AAA last night for a tow because my Audi lost steering. I was about 6 blocks from the Audi dealer at the time. It took Riverside over an hour to get to me and tow me the 6 blocks. In the process of moving my car, the car was damaged. The spoiler, the plastic pan below the engine and part of the grill came off. The driver said he had to return to his shop to get some "clips" to fix it. I took a taxi home without waiting to see if he did. This morning the Audi dealer called to find out if I wanted the damage the tow caused fixed too! He never returned to fix the car and now I have an additional expense of fixing the damage he caused. DO NOT LET AAA DISPATCH THIS TOW COMPANY TO HELP YOU! read more

Riverside tried to rip me off. After breaking down on nearby I-95, the tow driver convinced me to have the car towed to Riverside Service instead of the dealer for repair. I was only going to take it to the dealer because my mechanic was out of town, so I agreed to let Riverside evaluate it. It took them 6 hours and two phone calls before they gave me an estimate: $750. I thought it sounded like a lot for what they said was wrong, so I paid to have it towed away. When my mechanic was back, he did the work to fix the car: $295 for parts, labor and tax. Glad I didn't listen to these guys. Even with paying for the extra tow, it was less than half the cost of what they were going to charge me. I won't be back. read more

Couple of weeks ago my windshield wipers stopped working and I called AAA they came within 20 minutes to tow my car to the nearest service shop.The towing fellow was very nice drop me off at work and then took my car to the riverside service in greenwich and he told me that when the car is ready they will pick me up. They never called me to let me know when my car is ready or the status of what was going on also they never came and pick me up like they said they was going to and I miss my ride to go over there so I had to pay $11 to take a taxi to the service station. I called three times to check status of my car. They had my car from 930am to 545pm. They claim they haven't got the part yet. I eventually got to the service it was a bunch of people sitting down gabbing away. They told me some BS story that it was a motor transmission which doesn't make any sense and a leakage. There was no breakdown of what they did on the bill and it was $536 with a 10% discount . So I asked them how much was the part $276 so I said well how long was a laborer 2 hours. this is nonsense, they completely rip me off. A few days later I went to get a oil change on my car they said it would have cost me 202 including labor. So this service shop rio me off 300 dollars. I would never ever use them ever again. read more

My wiper blade wasn't working after all of the heavy snow that we had this winter and I finally got around to calling around about it. I called on a Saturday afternoon at 12:15. They told me to come right over because they closed at 1. 15 minutes later, they took a look at it, tightened a screw and sent me on my way...free of charge. Nice to know there are still places that won't take advantage of someone that clearly has no idea what they're doing! read more

I had a bad experience with this shop. My car had stopped on me so I called AAA for service. They sent Riverside Service and picked up my vehicle. While I rode with the driver, I instructed them to drop my vehicle at my mechanic. My biggest regret is when i listened to the driver to instead take my car to his shop. That was my biggest mistake. Oh what a nightmare. After they fixed the problem, I drove away and went on to my destination. After 15 min on the road, my car suddenly stopped on me in the middle of a busy highway. I called Riverside Service and explained my situation. They said they would call another tow truck company because that area was not their jurisdiction. After an hour, I called Riverside Service to find out where the towing company was. They would tell me he's not far from your destination. Again I waited another half hour and again and I was told he was nearby. A state trooper stopped to help and in the close to the 2 hour wait that I endured, I was told by the state trooper that he would have to call a towing company for me because their calls come first be before mine since it was called in by another garage. Finally, the tow company picks up my vehicle and takes it back to the garage. After 2 days in the shop and paying for Uber cars, they still could not find the problem. I explained to them what the problem was but they would not listen to me. They finally fixed the windows but now I was having problems with the electrical. After going back and forth with them, they refused to work and fix the mess they created. I called AAA to try to have them resolve the issue with the garage. AAA was not helpful. That's another review. Finally, I would NOT recommend you take your car here. They are a ripoff and have no idea what they are doing as a mechanic.They will casue more damage to your car. STAY CLEAR AWAY FROM THEM! Next stop, small claims court. read more

My car broke down on I95 and I called AAA to tow my car. When Riverside came to tow my car they pressured me to bring the car to them saying that my car is old and I should not take it to the dealer and that they were AAA approved. My car was towed to them; first it was the starter then something else then something else. Finally after 3 weeks they said it was the cam shaft and then they said to call back 2 days later. When I called back they couldnt tell what was wrong or what had happened. Without my knowledge they took my engine and replaced it with a used engine that too after I complained to AAA that I wasnt getting my car back and it's been a month.. When I got the car back from them the engine was so loud and it was embarassing to drive my Acura. Also the transmission was slipping with the engine they put.. AAA sent their own mechanic to make the engine noise less louder but they couldnt do anything about the transmission that was slipping which AAA told me to service elsewhere. I told AAA my transmission ewasnt like this before and I dont know what Riverside really did to my car. I only needed a cylinder head they told me. I paid Riverside about $1800 and got my car back more than a month later. It was all dusty inside and felt bad from just sitting for over a month I guess. The transmission broke a year later after I got the car back from them and I spent $3,300 to rebuild it at aonther shop. In the meantime I spen a couple of hundred dollars to change transmission fluid in the hope it would make my transmission better but it lasted less than 10,000 miles after I got the car back from Riverside and I to this day dont understand why they replaced my engine without my knowledge and if they also replaced the transmission along with the engine. It was a very bad experience with them; my car was actually dangerous to drive. I told them you guys pressured me to bring the car to them and Frank said it was my decision and I shouldnt have listened. Imagine stranded on highway and being panicky and have these guys who wouldnt even come out of the tow until I was pressed enough to yield to take to their place and then they do this for over a month and AAA still uses them. I see AAA van all the time there which am sure is because other customers are complaining to them about Riverside and they have to send their own mechanics to take a look. This place is terrible to deal with and I wouldnt recommed it at all. read more

Unfotunately, when you are stuck on the highway, there is not much choice, but this towing service is the worst. They treated me, a female, like I had to do whatever the guy told me regardless, and informed me that I had no options. Umm.. I did. But the guy who arrived tried to instill fear in me to hurry up and get the van towed, lying to me the whole time, telling me there were cameras on us and that he had to tow the van fast. Then told me that his supervisor was clocking him and he needed to tow my van or he'd have to leave. All of that wasn't necessary, but what was, was knowing his name, which company he worked for, where the van was going to be towed, etc. It was sheer hell. He was yelling at one point because I asked him to let me go to the ATM and he was frantic, like he was on anxiety meds frantic. His behavior was scary. He called the cops like twice. The 1st time they arrived and stayed with my van, as I walked to the ATM, I just didn't know what this guy was going to do because it looked like he was going to blow a gasket if he had to wait for me to walk 5 minutes total. The 2nd time he called the police, they came, I explained that he had already left. He was just harassing. The guy towed my van to a parking lot of a train station and left after I paid him. He didn't even jump my van. So one of the taxi drivers had to jump my van. I wondered why this company was either used by AAA. I still have the receipt, and the name I can't read, but the truck number was 410. This occurred in 08/2011, and yes, I did find the receipt, and decided to look up this towing company again and write a review. read more
