It's located in a cute downtown area in Dexter that we've never been to before. It was all decorated for Christmas, it looked like a hallmark movie. We were the first ones in and our server was super friendly and personable. I ordered the veggie omelette with feta cheese and it came with home fries and toast. It was sized just right for me so that I could finish it and the potatoes were perfectly sliced with a little bit of crunch. My husband ordered the poached eggs with pesto and veggies and said it was delicious. It's a casual, local place as more customers came in, they were regulars! Food came out in just right of time and hot. We heard someone order steak and eggs and it looked and smelled good! I would definitely return for that. read more

I took a little day trip to Dexter, and I hadn't really eaten yet. I saw the Riverview Cafe across the street, read some Yelp reviews and decided to try it -- especially since it was about 1:00 and I really wanted breakfast. I was looking at the menu outside, and a server came up to me and asked if I wanted a table, so I said yes. It was a beautiful day, so I decided to eat outside, but had I gone inside first, I might have stayed there, as I liked the old fashioned, homey look. It certainly might have been a house in a former life. I ordered the country omelette. It had sausage and cheese inside and country gravy on top. it came with nicely browned potatoes and a piece of homemade toast. I enjoyed my meal very much. However, it seemed very overpriced; the omelette was $14.50 and the portion seemed very small, especially since it came with only one piece of toast. While I know that other restaurants charge around the same price, what I'm served is almost always enough to have a second meal. read more

The food is excellent and portions are generous. We have been twice and the wait for our food was a little long each time. The employees were very friendly and the restaurant was busy but it definitely doesn't offer much visually. The decor is extremely outdated. The flooring, furniture and fixtures all need a major cleaning and update. The menu is extremely large. A menu of that size is always a red flag for me because how fresh can the food be if they need to have that much on hand? The dishes and cups were also heavily used and showed it. While the experience wasn't terrible, the food wasn't too bad nor was it remarkable so I don't think I will rush back anytime soon. read more

Friendly establishment with a large menu. I can personally recommend the Greek salad with gyro meat. It was really good. The cranberry juice was better than most. Found it odd that the veggie wrap was grilled which was not mentioned on the menu. Service was above average. read more

Want a great breakfast! This is my new favorite restart in the Dexter area. I have gone to this location for more than 25 years, during which time it had changed management and ownership many times. While I miss the days when locally sourced trout was an option as a breakfast menu, I do not miss the unwelcoming but short time period where they staff were forced to wear xenophobic T-shirts and I wished the management would read the pocket copies on the US constitution they had placed at every table. Sensing a change, I returned and was delighted! The place is now not only immigrant friendly, but seems to be welcoming to all people! But, even better, the food is amazing and fairly priced (for 2022). The Greek omelet with gyro meat was spectacular! The hash browns appear to be truly homemade, not preshredded frozen potatoes. The toast was cooked exactly the way I like, and they even made an ice coffee for me. Waitstaff is friendly and happy to work there. Modern furnishings and clean bathrooms. Last Sunday 8/6/23 we stopped at the Riverview Cafe while taking the scenic way home to Muskegon. We were hoping for a "fancy" Sunday dinner. Obviously, we aren't from these parts and we hadn't looked at an online menu! If we were, we would know that this is an amazing breakfast, sandwich, coney dog, gyro and rice pudding restaurant. Admittedly, we were disappointed at first that we weren't going to get prime rib, steak or lobster. Instead we ordered coney dogs and a club sandwich. Perhaps our food was "good," but it wasn't. It was excellent! What made it exceptional, was the outstanding service that we received from our waitress and the kindness we received from the owner and her daughter. And the rice pudding we received to take home, was the "cherry" on top!" We can't wait to meander through Dexter again and stop at the Riverview Cafe! read more

Today's breakfast consisted of a Hawaiian Omelette, a Philly Steak Omelette and an order of Chocolate Chip Cakes. Awesome tasting 'lettes cooked soft along with small-town friendly service. Believe the pictured menu is about 2 price increases old. Assume $15 per breakfast. I literally joked with the waiter, asking "How do they put 3 eggs on the bagel breakfast sandwich?" Which is in the description. He just laughed. Then the sandwich shows up with clearly 2 eggs which I jokingly showed him. He just responds, "Oh, sorry" and nothing else. Riverview is exactly what you would expect it to be. It is in an old building, some of the bench seats are a little worn and the walls have been painted over more than a few times. Excellent waitress, good food, nice serving sizes and quaint location in downtown Dexter. We stopped in on a whim about an hour before closing one afternoon. There was no mention that they needed us to leave soon or that we were a bother. I had the Riverview Salad with warm pita bread. Generous portion size and it was delicious. Standouts were the country omelet slathered in a sawmill gravy and the corned beef hash made with freshly sliced corned beef (not out of a can). Such a sad and upsetting Restaurant. The fries were good and they seated us quickly. And that's the only good thing I'm gonna say about the visit here. First time here. Got in at 1pm on a Sunday, was pretty busy but I wasn't nervous, until we sat down and the people around us looked really angry. I heard someone say they have been waiting for an hour for their food after we ordered our food. I got a a little nervous. We waited a half hour to get our drink orders. Another 20 mins to actually get drinks. Another 20 minutes for them to take our order. We in fact waited almost an hour for food. And my order was wrong. I felt no remorse form the waitress that we waited so long for everything. Google gave this place a $ for the prices, and I think it needs to be $$ as it's pretty expensive for a Sunday brunch place. Also, you do not even get a decent amount of food for the price it was. And nothing came with fries, so they slapped on another $3 for fries on top of a $9 pita with barely any meat on it. Classic diner food, along with some Greek specials. I love the hash browns with a sandwich or with breakfast. The corned beef skillet was delicious. Sandwiches (like a turkey ruben) are made with "fresh turkey" which tastes like Thanksgiving. Full disclosure: I have always eaten here after a long walk or bike ride on the beautiful Mill Creek Trail out of Dexter. So I'm always very hungry. But the food DOES taste good! Five stars because it's really good for what it is -- I'm not comparing it to upscale fancy places, but to other simple informal places with table service and a grill. read more

I had a Reuben sandwich, fries, and a cup of coffee. The good: 1. My waitress, Gwen, was very thorough and kind. She was extremely attentive to my needs. 2. Portions are very large and you will not leave hungry. 3. The food tastes really good. 4. The location is central. The not-so-good: 1. The prices are on the high side. Fries are extra which I found to be unusual because the price of the sandwich would have been normal at an equivalent restaurant and would have come with fries. 2. Our first time, and we loved it. As soon as we walked in, the staff greeted us and told us to sit wherever we wanted. The place is a typical cafe, and there were lots of people there. We arrived at 9:30am, and my husband got the Hungry Man breakfast, which was an amazing amount of food for 7.99. Three humongous pancakes. He ate one and took the other two home. Yes he did. I asked if I could get the gyro, and they said yes. Love that at 9:30am. When I said I was deciding between the veggie wrap and the gyro, the very nice waitress (helpful and offered suggestions without being asked) said they are both great, but when she said the lamb was cooked on a skewer, I had to go with the gyro. It was huge, full of meat and tomatoes, and the tzatziki sauce was delicious! If I'd wanted fries, she would have checked with the kitchen to see if they were making them that early. The gyro was 7.45 and worth every penny. I definitely feel the prices are reasonable. We will be back! read more
