(Last visited 12/10/2024.) Mom's having surgery up the street at Trinity Health so I need to calm my nerves to take my mind off of things. I needed breakfast since these procedures tend to start so early in the morning. The choices were slim and it was either a McDonald's or a coney. A Coney will win every time so here's how it went! Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right off the main drag in Chelsea is this gem. It's right next to a McDonald's, but this place was pretty busy and I was very happy to see that. There is a private parking lot where you can put your fly ride and even spaces around the back. There's also outdoor seating for the couple of months where there's nice weather here in Michigan. Inside is your typical diner and exactly what I expected. Service: The server never gave me her name, but it's all good. She was patient with me, gave me good recommendations and made sure I had everything that I needed. When you're done eating you do have to get up and go pay on your own at the front. Food: For breakfast I went with the Greek Scrambler. It consists of gyro meat, feta cheese, mushrooms and scrambled eggs. I added green onions for a bit more crunch. On the side I upgraded my toast to the Cinnamon Swirl Toasts. Everything was pretty good, but I did find myself adding a bit of salt and pepper to the scramble. However the Cinnamon Swirl Toast was excellent. Perfect as is. Value: This diner felt pricy, but maybe it was just me. My tall glass of orange juice was $3.79. That's basically the price of a whole container... but no matter. The Greek Scrambler started off at $12.99, but to add a topping of ANY KIND, it's $1.49 so that was for the green peppers. To upgrade to the Cinnamon Swirl Toast was another $1.99. So when it's all said and done, I came out $21.47. Seems steep for a diner breakfast, but aye, this place was packed so people must swear by it! I... guess I could too. I did like my food and a few of my friends actually said they like it there too and that they've never had a bad meal there. That says a lot! Check this place out if you're in the area. read more

Ordered a greek salad w/ chicken and...left a little hungry. It was small for $15. Lettuce was a blend of iceberg and romaine, and a lot of the romaine consisted of tough, dry outer leaves. The chicken was a bit dry but was nicely seasoned. Dressing was OK. I'll give the kitchen kudos for a generous hand with the kalamata olives, though there were no pepperoncini on it. Great breakfast, bad coffee, excellent service. This is what you can expect at Uptown Coney. The weekend crowd is loyal and they fill fast. If you have to wait, it will be short. They are masters at turn over. The food is out fast and fresh. Comfy booths, and there is a patio for larger groups. Haven't had a bad server yet. Jared at the register is hilarious and so upbeat all the time. The owner floats around helping out where he can and greeting ppl. Genuinely happy to see guests. We love this breakfast spot, even with the bad coffee. Theresa is our favorite server. Don't sleep on the lunch menu though. Tons of comfort food options and healthy items too. read more

I stopped here around 2 PM and was pleased to still get breakfast. I can't remember the dish. Hash something. Included hash browns, sausage, bacon, eggs and gravy. It was delicious. While quite busy with locals on Sunday around noon, operations were efficient and I had traction wait before being seated. (The larking lot was nearly filled which was unit of concern to me). The menu is extensive and what would be expected from a place with Coney Island in its name. The Chicago dog I ordered was true to the genre. $20 for a dry gyro with piles of onions and even worse fries. Fries were so old and dry they were inedible. $3.35 for a small soda to go (they had one size but it's very small) that was all ice. Rip.off! When I picked up my order, I asked if there was silverware in the bag and the answer was, there should be. Because I wasn't heading home this was particularly important. I learned about 500 things to eat before it's too late and the very best places to eat them by Jane and Michael Stern from a couple at a Northwestern Football game. The book was written by someone who eats like an ambulance driver. Here I learned that the Coney Island dog place is a Detroit thing, spreading through the Midwest. There was one not far from my house in Milwaukee that after two generations closed up a few months after I moved in. What a missed opportunity. I hope you're seeing the connection to the spirit and title of this book. So I'm in the Ann Arbor area for another Northwestern game, and this place is walking distance from my hotel. They are so busy the manager bussed my table where I noted a stingy one dollar tip. That's so Michigan. My waitress was so good, I decided to tip for both myself and the previous skinflint. The Coney Island dog was good, the home made Baklava was better. The decor is hilarious, lamps made from 1960s kitchen appliances and servingware. There's nothing healthy to eat here, so I don't recommend this place for anyone on a diet or vegans. If you're staying at the Baymont Wyndham, you absolutely need to walk here for breakfast. The staff is extremely personable. The food is not bad, but the prices are expensive for what you get. $16 for a Western Omelette with their special cinnamon swirl toast ($2 up-charge)). Took it home. So, so salty because it was overloaded with soy sauce. Called the Restaurant not to complain but to suggest that they put the soy sauce, in the future, in a small, plastic container so the customer could add their own to taste. He could have cared less. Loved this place, the service was outstanding, and for such a large menu, the kitchen was able to turn orders quickly. It was packed during the lunch hour, but our food came out quickly. I ordered the shrimp and spinach salad; the shrimp were grilled and fresh. I also got a plain hot dog because you can't stop at a Coney restaurant and not try a dog. Don't let the name fool you, this place rocks! It is not just a Coney island. It is a family style restaurant that uses fresh ingredients. The inside is cute with lots of fiestaware used to decorate. Adorable lamps made out of repurposed kitchenware like toasters, canisters, waffle irons, and the like. Very inviting. The staff is welcoming, friendly, and attentive.  They are quick as well.  They accept all major credit cards,  as well as apple pay and samsung pay. We ate here for both a dinner and a breakfast. Their breakfast are reasonably priced and taste fantastic.  They offer a make your own omelet, where you pick the ingredients.  They are FRESH ingredients, not canned, over processed junk.  If you ask for crispy bacon, it will be crispy.  The dinner was equally great. Everything was just as requested.  I only wish this was closer to my home. If it were closer, it would be my regular place to eat. read more

We went for dinner on Presidents Day, we ordered our beverages, when the waitress brought them, she literally stuck her nose in my husband's root beer to determine if it was root beer. She thought it was funny, no one else did, it actually turned my stomach seeing her do that. The final straw was when we got our coneys, the buns were stale and the hotdogs were not Kogels in casing. It's advertised that they serve Kogels in the casing but that is not what was served. When we brought that up to our waitress she asked what a Kogel is. Excellent quality, unique sandwich options, good prices, fast service and they have started using the drive through from back when this was an A&W for their pandemic era customers. Masks are, of course, worn. Their burgers are perfection and my fave is the CEO. Sweet potato fries with Uptown sauce is the best side. We found pretty comfortable digs (love the lamps) here on Chelsea's commercial strip just a 3-wood from the I-94 exit. As expected, this 'Uptown' was a predictable pleasure based on our frequenting it's sister Coney Island in the Deuce. We arrived at about 7:00 pm on a Friday night and snagged the only open table joining a busy, full house. Despite the crowd, our server did a marvelous job serving us in super quick and efficient fashion...great service in every respect. We love the fact that the Uptowns serve a great breakfast at all hours of the day or night and once again, their breakfast offerings were our choice this evening. My wife built her own 3-egg Omelette while I jumped for the Veggie Scrambler with a small cup of chopped white onions on the side. Very nice! Fresh ingreeds and amazingly...cooked exactly as requested despite the Friday night rush. I'm throwing Chelsea's Uptown a fiver today based on the combo of a sweet meal w/ amazing service. read more

I've always had good food here. The service is good and staff are friendly. Takeout has always been very nice.

We enjoyed this restaurant as one of the few options we had within walking distance of our hotel. If we were judging solely on my food it would be four stars but my husband did not care for his entree, the meat loaf, he loved the French onion soup though and our salads were huge. My steak and sweet potato fries were awesome. The staff were very friendly. the service to go was excellent and very prompt. I'm starving because I was at the hospital all day and needed a good meal... so I ate something else and sent my husband back to return the salad- day old salad is never good. This place was super busy when we arrived but we didn't have to wait long for a table, 2-3 minutes. However I t did seem like we waited a long time to get our food which wasn't anything out of the ordinary; a "scramble" plate (eggs, meats, cheeses, hash browns, and toast), a coney dog with fries, and a Chicago dog. That being said, the food was not very good and overpriced. The scramble plate was unbalanced - waaaayyy too many hash browns; hash browns that were super undercooked. If there were scrambled eggs in the dish they were well hidden, probably under the 3 full slices of cheese covering the top of the dish. While the cheese was good it would have served the dish better if it'd been shredded and distributed throughout the dish but they're probably there to hide the fact that there's nearly no egg in the dish. The sourdough toast was good and well buttered. As for the coney and Chicago dog - the buns seemed stale not steamed. The fries that came with the coney plate were good. Our waitress either had too many tables or wasn't a very good waitress because when she brought our food she said, "I'll get you another Diet Pepsi." I then watched her walk back and forth past our table no less than 3 times, once WITH a tray of drinks for other tables around us before she finally came back and asked if we wanted more drinks!
