First time visit with my wife, mid Friday afternoon. Owner greeted us with friendly hello when we walked in. Decor dated and worn out. Table settings were scattered (salt and pepper, etc) and a note card from a prior diner was left on our table. Surprising given number of wait staff hanging out or doing busy work. New waitress not much help w menu; had to flag her down for water refills. Wife's gyro was ordinary, but with nice thick tzatziki sauce. My salad, the "Jimmy's Famous Village Salad" with chicken appeared to be delivered to another table by another waitress. I had our waitress check w the kitchen due to the delay; she brought out what was clearly the other table's salad slightly modified to be like the Jimmy's. Chicken was unseasoned, adding to my disappointment. When I went to pay at the cash register, I told the owner that I was disappointed and what I believed had happened. Her immediate response was to ARGUE with me, claiming she saw my salad being properly made, and insisting that I had received the Jimmy's. She offered to take it off the bill, which I accepted. She then removed ONE dollar from the total. I pointed this out to her, but she had already run the credit card and said she'd just give me cash. Rather than return the $9.99 total, she handed me $7. Here's the math: $1 credit + $7 cash = 1 pissed off customer who will tell anyone visiting Dexter about Riverview Cafe. read more

The chicken lemon rice soup and ice tea were especially great! The Dexter coney dog was good too. It was just a quick lunch but we enjoyed ourselves. I'd recommend them. I'll be back next time I want a good lunch and am in the area. read more

Great new eatery in downtown Dexter! Been here twice now and still impressed....the food is fresh and very tasty and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The Greek salad comes in three sizes: mini, small, and large. Ordered the small with chicken and it was a very generous portion! The chicken was freshly grilled and the dressing (made on site) was really tasty! The pita bread was even great! Yum! Breakfast is served all day...just wish they were open for dinner.... read more

Ate here with my mom a few days ago since the location has changed owners again and am GLAD we did! I had the Greek gyro which was delicious! I wanted to eat an entire extra gyro. The salads are great too with what has to be homemade Greek dressing. My mom ordered the rueben sandwich that was also very good, our waiter was helpful, informative and efficient. They serve breakfast all day as well, which I cannot wait to try next time we go. A huge improvement over the last few restaurants there! read more

Delicious and easy. We had success with three of four meals... Pancakes with blueberries were solid. The chili cheese omelet was delicious. And the deluxe French toast was quite the surprise. The only miss we had were the bacon wrapped tenderloins, but they were OK...just in need of more seasoning. Not the best place around, but worth returning. read more

I really like this place but they could stand to tweak a few things. First get some really good bread for toast and sandwiches. Second stop using lunch meat turkey breast and corn beef and prepare the real thing. One more thing put the blueberries into the pancake batter not some sicky syrupy thing you put on top, these thing show you care. read more

Went for the first time on New Year's Day and will be back! They have toys for kids! Everyone was so nice, accommodating and helpful. The food was lightning fast and very tasty. They offered complementary rice pudding for the holiday, which I thought was a wonderful touch. Also, our waiter George (I think?) was the best waiter I've ever had. My "chicken and waffles" was literally Tyson chicken strips on a waffle. If your going to offer such a luxury please make it from scratch.

This place is the basic breakfast diner that Dexter needed. We've been there twice, both times the service was phenomenal. Fast, friendly and always smiling. The meals aren't greasy or too big, they are standard portions - I like that. We've had eggs, pancakes, sausage, hash browns, toast & french toast (my favorite), all were prepared well and delicious. Best breakfast in Ann Arbor area! We stopped in after church to give the new place a try, and Wow! What a great surprise! I had a breakfast skillet with sausage and potatoes and my husband had one with corn beef, both excellent! The potatoes were 'real' potatoes cooked on the spot and the whole dish was excellent. I was really worried that it would be packed last week on Sunday AM but although they were busy it was efficient. Food is good. Poached eggs on corn beef hash were done perfectly. Take your bikes out to Dexter and stop along the way. Or have a nIce walk on the river afterward. read more

We had breakfast at the Riverview Cafe this morning and it was fabulous in quality and quantity!! I had one of the breakfast specials that are good until 11am--2 eggs, hash browns, 4 sausage links!, and toast for $4.50. They offered us a sample of their home made rice pudding but we were too stuffed to try it so they packed us some up to go--no charge! This has to be one of the friendliest restaurants we've ever been to with excellent customer service. My only suggestion is to have some tables outside. It is very crowded inside on a Sunday morning. read more
