Started with a cold can of cider and some complementary focaccia, which was quite good, warm and moist, dipped in a bit of good olive oil in a bottle on the tabletop. Started with burrata, served with peppers and portabello mushrooms (needed a little salt). My entree was a special -- curried cauliflower linguine. It was surprisingly tasty. The cauliflower was sliiiightly too al dente, but the texture of the pasta and the other veggies was good and the saltiness and sauciness levels (the sauce was basically spiced oil; there may have been some parm) were perfect. Not sure why; I sorta expected mediocre primavera, the kind so many places serve. This wasn't that. My wife, who isn't on Yelp, had the orange salmon with frisée salad. Delicious, she says. My fiancé and I took a day trip from NYC up to Cold Spring over the weekend and stumbled upon the Riverview Restaurant on Saturday night for dinner. We did not have a reservation but we're promptly seated. The restaurants has a very nice feel to it. It would be great for dinner with family, friends or to celebrate a birthday. The patio area looks out to the Hudson river. There is a barroom and a formal dining room. We were seated in the dining room. There was lite music in the background and there was pleasing artwork throughout. Our server was lovely and gave us an iPad to look at the specials. Service was solid. We shared an order of fried calamari to start. It came out hot and tasty. For mains we ordered two specials. I had a orecchiette pasta with a garlic vegetable medley and he had a sirloin burger with shoe string fries. Our dishes were both tasty. He said his burger was good, but not special. My pasta was tasty and the noodles seem to be made fresh. All in all, it's a nice spot to visit. read more

If you asked my parents they'd probably rate this spot a 4.5, I however am not as convinced. We came here on a day trip adventure and after researching a few spots, we landed on Riverview based on the menu. While reservations were available and we made them, not sure how much it counts for as it was difficult to get anyones attention and we ended up sitting at the bar. So that said, service was spotty... we ordered wine and a cocktail, wine was good, cocktail was subpar, I ordered an amaretto sour and while I saw the bartender pour the liquor, it was 99% sour mix. For food we ordered the Cod, Swordfish and Sita pizza. According to my parents the fish was delicious as for the pizza I didn't find it to be anything special. The atmosphere was what we were looking for but the lack of staff guiding folks coming in caused a docking of points. If I return to the area I will likely try another spot. However, I will note there were several locals so it might be a better fit for others than myself. My review is not so much for the food (which was OK, nothing to rave about) but for the customer service and their cash only policy. First off, we were not notified that there was a cash only policy. Whenever I go to a restaurant that is cash only I always see a sign because (a) not everyone has cash on them (b) this helps individuals make an informed decision if they want to eat here. This isn't the problem with my interaction with the restaurant. When my group was ready to pay for our meal, we didn't have enough cash for the whole meal but saw on the check that the restaurant would reimburse us for the $2 transaction fee. We thought that this was a good company policy for being cash only and used their ATM. However, when I provided the receipt showing I used their ATM and the sequence number (as requested) to my male server he told us "not to worry" and simply took the cash and NEVER returned with our receipt or change. Granted the difference was approximately a 20% tip, I did not appreciate that (1) it was assumed we were going to tip that much (what if wanted to tip more??) and (2) that we never received a receipt indicating that we had paid for our meal. We waited for a while wondering if our server was going to come back with our change and receipt. It never happened so we left. Not only was I NOT reimbursed for the $2 transaction fee that the ATM charges as per restaurant policy but given it was a generic ATM my bank charged us an additional $2.5 fee for using a generic ATM. It's really not about the $4.5 that we loss but the lack of respect we were treated at the end of our meal and lack of transparency with their supposed "reimbursement" policy. read more

Wow - what a gem of a restaurant. I stopped here for dinner on a Wednesday evening late July - they are doing socially distanced dining with covid-19 safety protocols in place - and sat outside with beautiful views across the Hudson River. The staff and owners were beyond friendly and hospitable with a nice family-owned vibe. A semi-famous reality star was seated near me and it kind of seemed like a low-key off duty New Yorker scene. The food was DELICIOUS. I got the cucumber gazpacho and Eggplant Parmesan - both were excellent. The takeout menu (served dining style) was an unbelievable deal - 2 courses for $18.95 - and the portions were very generous. We love this restaurant - they have delicious high-end entrees but also some of the best pizza I've ever eaten. We have been here twice when visiting our West Point cadet. The servers are awesome - you can tell there is a great relationship between the kitchen and floor staff, we've always gotten great recommendations for the best of the best being served that night. The pomodoro pizza is not to be missed and any "stuffing" with seafood tastes like a high end fish cake. We spent the day in Cold Spring & after walking a total of 6 miles we were STARVING for dinner! My boyfriend ended up finding this & we took a chance! Immediately when we walked in it was BUSY which is a GREAT sign, especially for an ALL CASH business! Wow! The wait for 3 people was only about 10 minutes which wasn't bad at all. We were seated in the "outdoor" covered & heated patio. It was beautiful with how they had the string lights & the set up looks like it was meant to be this way. It was hard to imagine it as just the building! We ordered the Fungi Pizza no cheese to start & I got the clams / mussels with linguine. It usually comes with a tomato sauce but I kindly asked if they could substitute for a garlic wine sauce since I'm not really a fan of red sauces. The server brought us out bread to start. It was a bit cold but it tasted REALLY good!! It had some herbs in it & we dipped it in olive oil. The pizza (which was our appetizer) & our friend's soup took a REALLY long time to come out. We did expect this since we read it in the reviews. The waiter kept bringing over more bread to hold us over which is nice. Luckily, we were all in a good mood & didn't mind waiting since it was so busy. Just be prepared to wait some time if you go during a busy service. Finally, the pizza & soup came out. The pizza was fluffy & crunchy & FULL of flavor with just the spinach & mushrooms! We really enjoyed it. My boyfriend asked for a side of red sauce which was really nice too. 10/10 for the pizza! Yum!!!!! My friend's white bean soup came & it wasn't really what he was expecting but it he still really enjoyed it! It was more like a baked bean soup, not really white, as a tip!! For my entree I got the linguine with mussels & clams in the garlic wine sauce. As you can see from the picture they do NOT skimp on the mussels & clams!!! Not quite the place for super large groups but under 5 ppl and you'll be dandy. The only two downsides to this place is that they only take cash. After coming back to Cold Spring to visit friends, we took the opportunity to have dinner at Riverview with our hosts. It was nice to be greeted and remembered by the owners. The food choices were varied and appealing. Once are orders arrived, none of our party was disappointed with our entres. Dinner at Riverview has alway been a memorable experience and after 5 years away, it is nice to see the quality of food and service has remained high. My partner had the black bean soup. It was extremely bland, in my opinion. The pizzas were really unappealing. I'd ordered an Alsatian flammkuchen style pizza. Menu says "lardons" which usually is flecked with small pieces of bacon. What came out was a literal bacon pizza. An entire package of bacon-edge to edge, covering the entire pie. It was really over the top and extremely unappetizing. The "Diablo" pizza did not live up to its name. No spice at all. The cocktails I ordered were not shaken and chilled. They were also extremely watered down. Service was friendly, but server did not seem very knowledgeable. Always wanted to try this place, but now I know we won't return. read more

When we were sat, we asked if we could sit closer to the window, but the server was reluctant to do so, even tho there were empty tables... so we just accepted whatever seat was given. I really wish that they told us they accept only cash as payment BEFORE entering the dining space. But they only mentioned it at the end of our meal (which was not tasty). We didn't have cash, so we used their ATM, and it did not work. After trying the ATM four times, one of the managers said I could Venmo her instead.... Again, they should've said that at the beginning too. Super disorganized. The internet in the area was not working well, so it was very inconvenient. I finally connected to their wifi and paid after all of these different attempts. The manager came behind me and told me to tip her more. Bc this was so chaotic and the food wasn't great, I didn't think it deserved much of a tip due to bad service and experience... to make matters worse, the manager commented this rude remark on my Venmo transaction (see photo). Looked online last eve' to see what I would order today when I went there. There was a duck pate app & codfish entrée that interested me. They didn't even ask if I wanted a drink initially; I volunteered, "Hugo"...had to tell them how to make it. Something must be wrong with their ice OR something...it was funky tasting. I make these at home & had them elsewhere so I CAN readily compare. Waitress said they were out of the duck pate but would ask the kitchen about it. It was available (hoping it wasn't frozen or whatever??). Duck pate was served to me; it had a 1/4" "gel" across the top (WTF) that PEELED off easily. I set that gel aside as it was NOT appealing at all. The duck pate was HARD...should have been spreadable, at least, ya think. Sent back to the kitchen with the "GEL" to slightly warm up but NOT hot...just wanted to make it spreadable. Came back spreadable; too spreadable....NO gel...??? Codfish entrée was served; served with spinach mixed with corn kernels & mushrooms. An odd mix but edible. Ordered espresso & sambuca. While waiting for espresso, this waitress told me the desserts; ordered the peach melba. I mentioned to her that the duck pate was NOT good & when I sent it back to the kitchen it had the gel with it but it did NOT come back with the gel. She said, "The gel was not with the pate." This insinuates that I was lying & is fighting words to me...!!! I told her it was when I sent it back. AND I said, "Maybe you should ask one of the idiots." She asked me to leave. Me: "FINE." Great location and remarkably informed and friendly staff with a passion for the menu. The pizzas were second to none, each with its own flair. I wish I could remember the name of the one I ordered, but it was the one with lardons and caramelized onions, while my girlfriend's was the pomodoro, a traditional pizza. The crusts on each were distinct which exemplifies the attention to detail the chef brings, when designing the menu. They were not the same crusts, just with different toppings. When our server came, I asked for something other than American cheese on my burger, and even though the menu has multiple cheeses on it the server blatantly said "I'm sorry, we have no other cheese." As a customer, I really don't appreciate being lied to, just tell me honestly you don't do substitutions, but the menu did not state this. My burger came (and 4 others at the table). We all ordered them medium, and they all came well done. The were flavorless, overcooked, dry slabs of poor quality meat.
