My last visit here was 10 years ago and I remember liking their pizza so we decided to order for pickup. We were in the mood for a cheesy, topping filled pizza because when you spend the money these days to eat out, you want it to be worth it. Sadly, we weren't impressed with the pizza. Their supreme equivalent is the Pierce which comes with pepperoni, sausage, onion, mushrooms and black olives. My photo may look like we got a lot of toppings but the mushrooms were so scarce I didn't think they put them on. There were areas where it was just cheese. The sauce is minimal and just tasted kinda boring. It's cut into very uneven slices and some were so large we had to cut them ourselves. Overall just not a pizza I'd come back for. The garlic bread is highly overpriced at $10 for 4 pieces, 2 were tiny. We used a 20% off coupon from their site so at least we saved a little but for $30 this was disappointing. Just happened to get an AirBnB close by and decided to have some pizza. It was a great choice! I ordered online and showed up at the early part of the estimated time. Staff was more worried about my wait time than I did and even offered me a free pizza next time. Food was fantastic! More than worth any extra wait I actually had. Riverwest Pizza may have the best vegetarian pizza I've ever had! Their Greek pizza has Red sauce, artichoke, tomato, red onion, spinach, feta, olive, and Tzatziki. I was hesitant about the artichoke on the pizza and it turned out to be the star. I have probably gone for that pizza specifically, 4 or 5 times, and I've had others try it, finding it pleasantly surprising. For the meat-eaters, you have plenty of options too. During my most recent visit, I also got the "Call Me Daddy" pizza both for the fun name but also for the white sauce (and additional toppings). I don't see white sauce pizza options often, so I'm always happy to see a restaurant that offers a few options on the menu. read more

The staff were really hardworking and nice! It seemed as though they were understaffed and we were a very large group, our waitress (I didn't catch her name) handled it super well and I could tell was working hard to get all of our food and drink orders. Riverwest pizza is so much cuter than the outside. The outside looks like 3 average big Riverwest houses with lots of siding that are combined. The inside has a handwritten chalk sign with the cocktails and wines, and a wooden overhang with nice fake roses. There's a very short bar with about 8 taps with the typical local beers. They also have 12ish cans. The menu isn't clear but the pizza are price for 14"/ price for 18". I tried the Weil which was a bbq pizza. The pizza was sweeter and not as thick bbq are typical but not oily at all and fresh. I enjoyed the fratney. They were out of duck though but substituted chicken. Seemed like all pizza were thin crust and not too saucy. The outside is almost a giant open green house. The outside has 12 tables that seat 4 plus 1 that seats 10, and 1 sort of patio table that would be difficult to eat on. The big table had plugs and usb ports. The service was quick. Pizzas took typical pizza lengths, especially since getting 4 for the group. You could customize the main pizzas. The server also split our check into 5 (she offered). read more

Do not order the gluten free pizza! Get half the pizza for $4 more. I ordered an 18 inch pizza with a gluten free crust. Was hoping to feed a few people and then finally got the pizza and it was ice cold and half the amount of pizza I was expecting. Had to reheat the pizza when I got home. 2-9 inch pizzas do not equal an 18inch pizza. I was looking forward to getting a pizza that didn't cause stomach issues, but instead I paid nearly $30 for half the amount of pizza I was expecting. read more

Considering other reviews and the price tag, I was expecting better. Alas, that expectation always seems to get me. 18" golden child ($24) - supposed to have pepperoni, salami, sausage, bacon, black olives, and shaved parmesan on thin crust. Hubby is not a fan of thin crust, but I am, and I thought the crust was delicious except for the burnt portions. The toppings were also delicious, though I didn't see any bacon or parmesan, and wasn't sure whether the salami and pepperoni looked the same or whether I only got pepperoni. The biggest problem with this pizza was that they didn't evenly distribute the topping, so there were some bites with a fistful of black olives and a ton of sausage, but also areas where it turned into cheese pizza. It felt rushed and rookie. Other pictures show a much better pizza, so pretty disappointed here. The sauce and overall balance was great, though, so with a little more care in presentation, I would have been a happy camper. The zucchini fries were DE-licious! Not too heavy on the dough, but perfectly crispy and just right. I'd go back just for these. Not the pizza though. read more

Sorry, guys. I sense that you're beloved in the neighborhood and care about what you do, but I've chosen to give one star -- to, perhaps, get your attention -- even though the Pierce pizza that I had on my first and only visit was DELICIOUS. First, the trivial (but annoying): A table that had to be in the Guinness book as the most ridiculously wobbly of all time. Cheap, white, plastic chairs. Paper plates! (What is this, an indoor picnic? Well, at least paper plates are biodegradable.) But then came the ridiculous PLASTIC cutlery, in one of ridiculous little sealed plastic bags, complete with tiny, worthless napkin. (But yes, they also provide real napkins.) I won't waste time lecturing about the global plastics problem that every educated and caring adult should be well aware of (especially in the hip Riverwest neighborhood, one would think). Guys, you must certainly have a dishwasher, to wash pans and utensils. So, act like you're running a real restaurant, not somebody's cheap rec room in the basement, and use and provide real, metal cutlery. (There's no way that they are being more "green" with this approach. Are they saving money by doing it? I doubt it . . . but if so, I'd gladly pay another dollar or two, above the current reasonable price of the pizza, in exchange for a more responsible environmental approach.) [To their partial -- but no, not redeeming -- credit, online photos indicate what appears to be a charming outdoor patio used in the warm months. And inside, there's a bit of charm in the unusual and interesting lights and other things suspended from the ceiling. But, more than counterbalancing that was the final sin: That universal outrage, a huge TV screen right on the wall right above me. (I'd chosen the corner table so that I could look at the far preferable blank walls, and out the small window, instead . . . but the looming thing was unavoidable.) I'd never seen one quite like this before: It mostly ran video images of nature scenes -- but then, after each 10 minutes or so, several product commercials (fortunately, at least with the sound muted). Then the nature scenes returned, opening with a helpful label (something like "Gentle sounds and forest scenes".) I've said it before and I'll never stop saying it: If you, dear readers, don't expect and demand that the restaurants to which we pay good money provide us with a pleasant, appealing escape from the usual, then we'll all get what is becoming the lazy, unimaginative and dystopian non-choice, of damn TV screens everywhere we go. Come ON! Demand better.] Will I return to enjoy the good pie again? No. I just can't reward the kind of cheap, thoughtless approach Riverwest takes to their dining room and service. read more

First time visiting this place and found it quite underwhelming. Brussel Sprouts appetizer was tasty with an ample portion and was, quite honestly, the saving grace of the meal. The Calamari was a small portion served with pickled onion that really served no purpose. My wife only ate a single piece of the calamari as it had a slightly fishy taste to it and kind of a rubbery texture. It was served with a side of marinara, that we didn't order and assumed was included, but we noticed an upcharge for it on our bill. The Humboldt Pizza was unremarkable with a sparse sprinkling of fresh basil even though it was listed as a main ingredient. The pizza itself was wet, soggy & floppy and would have benefitted from a few more minutes in the oven. Perhaps the most off-putting part of the meal was the use of too much plastic and disposable ware. Plastic 'silverware' & paper plates for the food and drinks are served in plastic cups. The experience would've been elevated a bit with metal silverware, non-disposable plates & real glassware. read more

local pizza joint off the beaten path. smaller local feel. has an awesome eclectic pizza menu filled with all sorts of fun options, and a few regulars too! we had the holten which is a red sauce pizza with chorizo / jalapeños / Mexican flare. their pizzas come on a thin slightly soft crust, which was different than I'm used to. they also had fried brussel sprouts as an app which are INSANELY GOOD. my favorite part of this place was the atmosphere when I we stopped in. while we got our food takeout, we stopped for a drink at the bar & has an awesome time socializing with the friendly bar staff & other people hanging out. this place has an awesome vibe & I'll definitely be back for some beverages & food! read more

Not sure why I missed reviewing this place a while back. Riverwest Pizza rocks. Not sure why I don't come more often but every time I've been in, it has been an enjoyable experience. The place is put together and the outside is as nice as it is in. The patio area is actually great for summer/fall days and evenings. The service is also quality to say the least. Now to the goods. Riverwest knows how to make a spectacular pie. They also have great variety of pies and make some truly solid speciality pies. Really cool how they named the pies after famous, not so famous, Riverwest streets. I can truly say they really don't have a bad choice on the pizza menu. They also have some very good dishes aside from pizza. Food in general is on point. Kudos to the chefs! The bar is awesome and you can get some great specials during Happy Hour. Even better yet show your ID as a Riverwest resident and get a nice discount on specific days. Bonus to all things Riverwest! Also Cheers to Riverwest Pizza. Great pizza in a cozy environment! We started off with fried Brussels sprouts that come with basil aioli dipping sauce. They are awesome, and if you're trying to convince a kid to eat their Brussels sprouts, this is the way to do it! They have a pretty large variety of pizzas with interesting toppings and combinations. I wanted to be adventurous, but the rest of my party was pretty set on getting a safe pizza. We settled on the Humboldt, which is mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil. It was really tasty and the ingredients seemed fresh. It's the kind of pizza where it gets very floppy in the middle, and for a second you consider busting out a knife and fork, but then come to your senses. Lots of pizzas here. Milwaukee really isn't a pizza-Italian food kind of town (c'mon, I know you've noticed.) So that being said, riverwest pizza does a formidable job coming up with lots of fair prized pies with somewhat exotic toppings and fun names inspired by the locale (ie "The Humboldt" "Gordon Park in the '80s") We had (I think) the Humboldt which is essentially a marguerita pizza and garlic bread. The crust is decent. A little soft and chewy with very fresh toppings - it's tame but I like this kind of pizza. The place is smallish - really a corner bar transformed with an added dining room. They have lots of daily specials if your in the know like a "riverwest residents" 25% off discount on Fridays. (We're not quite riverwest residents but are in the know;) What said the most about this place was how many what seemed like local regulars were stopping in on Friday to pick up Their to go orders. Always a good sign! Now the only thing that seems out of place? No bike rack or usable street signs for bike parking nearby. And it's called riverwest pizza! For shame! The fresh basil and multi flavored Moscow mules make up for it though- I'm a fan! read more

Went down great, in fact as a self proclaimed pizza lover I thought the stars were aligning. I THOUGHT I had found a great chow hall in RW for dank slices.. until I tipped heavy just to realize I had: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 seconds until blast off out my a-hole. #HolyShit Shocked, surprised, disappointed.. all words that came following this incident when I was notified by friends of the same rectal consequences. Many thanks to Ron and Stephanie R for introducing me to this neighborhood gem - because I'm not a hipster, or cool enough to be in Riverwest, I would have missed out and that would be a shame. Why? Well, for one - super creative pizzas. I enjoyed the Booth which is a white Pizza with chicken, bacon, jalepenos and a sriracha drizzle - just spicy enough and served on a wonderful crisp and chewy crust. The Mister went with another specialty pie that included pep, sausage, mushrooms and onions - again, a winner. We started with "Seriously Cheesy Garlic Bread" and found it to be more Moderately Cheesy, though still tasty. Their marinara sauce was really, really good though - not sweet at all and nicely spiced. Prices are moderate (pizzas $15-18 for a 14" which is PLENTY for 2), they've got a decent beer and wine selection and the service is friendly. Plus, the inside is super cute and full of photos of local neighborhood spots. No parking lot - street parking will be hit or miss but that's the neighborhood for you. RP is now on my Pizza Shortlist - looking forward to coming back and trying more of their interesting flavor combinations. read more

Even though I'm not generally a fan of Milwaukee's super-thin pizza crust, this one was quite tasty. The crust as well as the rest of the ingredients tasted homemade and fresh. I had the 613 with pesto, mozzarella, parmesan and arugula. I added mushrooms and black olives. While I ended up with a $30 pizza, it was most enjoyable! It also arrived on time, quick and hot. We made our way to this up and coming neighborhood on a warm night where the open door was welcome to let the breeze in. Riverwest Pizza is a fun and funky place in an unassuming corner spot. The interior is eclectic...industrial meets vintage with a hint of arty. There's a really nice outdoor patio in the back. Hardwood tables have the logo embossed right in...nice. Maddy and I settled into a back room table and selected the Brussels sprouts for an appetizer. So good! It was like we could do penance for our pizza with a healthy start. They were crisp, chewy and crisp, with a side of a garlic pesto sauce to dunk them in. We dove in without diplomacy on those things. We selected The Dousman for our pizza, up sizing to a large so we could have some leftovers to take home. Good call! It had a white sauce, ham, pineapple, onions, and jalapeños that we had on the side. I am not a huge fan of jalapeños but I found I liked them fresh as a topper. Baked in brings a lot more heat. For their third night open, we were impressed to see a wait. Granted, that also means the kitchen hasn't quite caught their groove so food took a bit long, but I'll give them a pass this time. The menu has great options, one that makes a decision hard in the very best way. Their asparagus fries look amazing (known by creepin on other tables) so we will be back for those. Fun fact: there are nutritional yeast shakers on the table, for vegans and their yeast-lovin friends. Happy hour specials are good: a few beers available for $2.50, rail cocktails for $3. The art and vibe is good; lovin the found objects art and the repurposed tables. There are a lot of tables, but it doesn't feel packed in. Draft and bottle list has something for everyone; average beer is $4-6. So the pizza! Thin crust, tasty red sauce, and gluten free options for your sensitive friends. I've had a more simple single slices during happy hour, but didn't start loving Riverwest Pizza until I made a return visit and had the Fratney. It is duck shredded with a light sprinkling of greens and goat cheese and drizzled with balsamic glaze. The goat cheese is mixed with their regular cheese offering, making there be splotches of goat cheese instead of dispersed so it is in each bite. I actually would have preferred less other cheese filler and only the goat cheese. The fried brussel sprouts appetizer was fantastic! They reminded me of the way kale gets when it is roasted. I'm pleased to say that I've had back-to-back fantastic experiences at Riverwest Pizza. I'm not usually a fan of thin crust pizza, but this place makes me think twice. Monday nights are Service Industry Nights, but I don't work in the service industry and didn't feel like awkwardly lying about it to get a deal. You can, however, get half off cans which makes Hamm's $1.25. Wowieeeee! I haven't ordered anything other than pizza here, but I feel comfortable giving 5 stars since it's a pizza place. First time around, we got the Bremen (kale, mushrooms, tomato, mozz). I was thoroughly impressed. The sauce was fantastic, everything was cooked perfectly. My experience was the same with the Fratney (duck, goat cheese, arugula). This was a little fancier, but still delicious. I am totally into their use of non-conventional greens, and Riverwest Pizza really set themselves apart with this. I would venture to say these two are the best pizzas I have had in Milwaukee. Service has been great, regardless of whether or not the place is packed. The decor is not what you would expect of a pizza joint in Riverwest (in other words, it's kinda fancy). Love everything. It's great to have this place in the neighborhood - it's simply good food and good service. They recently updated their menu to add some new fun things. I have tried several of the pizzas; Gordon Court, Singer Circle, and most recently, the 53212, which is a Thai peanut chicken type deal. All of them have been good. The flavor of the crust isn't my favorite and the length of "doneness" seems to vary, but their toppings are just so creative and generous. I also highly recommend the RWP Mule - what they call their "house wine." Ha! It's delicious: fireball cinnamon whisky, ginger beer, and lime. read more

LOVE THIS PLACE. It's small and cute inside, just a few tables up by the bar with a medium sized back dining room as well as a patio. The pizzas are all named after streets in the neighborhood which is a cute, if maybe a little kitschy, addition to things. My favorite is the Singer Circle, a white sauce, garlicky, chickeny creation that is perfect if you're a garlic fiend like me. The joke about mints being available on the menu, but really, you'll need them! I've also sampled 2 or 3 of the other options and everything has always been great. Go check them out, definitely catering to a different market than Ian's, and for sure higher quality, but taking the same creative approach to your typical boring toppings. read more

My girlfriend and I had just finished making some delicious Kung pow chicken at home, when the handle fell of the pan during transport and landed upside down on our floor. We scraped our dinner in to the trash and decided we would order a pizza from Riverwest Pizza, since it's only a block away. The pizza was delicious, but very expensive. Also, we couldn't find their menu online, which just seems like a poor business decision. I really want them to be successful because they are so close. I had the opportunity to go to Riverwest Pizza with an awesome Marquette Alum! We started with the fried brussel sprouts. These were absolutely delicious. It came with a mouth watering ranch pesto aioli sauce. You wouldn't think that brussel sprouts deserve a dipping sauce, but they surely do. I would highly recommend getting this appetizer because it is super tasty and also a vegetable (if you're trying to be "healthy"!). For the main course we got the Dousman Pizza. This comes with ham, pineapple, jalapeños and mozzarella cheese. We decided to go with the jalapeños on the side because of the spice factor. This was a great choice! The crunchy jalapeños really added to the taste of the pizza. The pizza itself was between a thin slice and traditional dough. The consistency was delicious. As for the atmosphere, it was absolutely lovely. When walking in the first thing I noticed was the contemporary feels and lovely designed layout. The back patio is HUGE and would be great for a summer night. Overall, I give this place a 5/5. I plan on bringing all my friends the next time we go out for pizza. read more

Wow there are not words. It would be preposterous to say anything inflammatory about RWP. Not only is the bar fully stocked but the bartender Abby is verbose in drink knowledge. Not to mention that she is an absolute treasure. Truly a disney princess walking amongst mere mortal. Always in a great mood truly the absolutely kindest person I've ever been honored to be in the presence of. She loves working here and you can truly tell. ( she loves a good pun!) Now for the food.
