First time here but I foind it to be very good. I got a burrito with ground beef and my wife got a dish with spicy chicken and beef chinks chimichangas. We both thought the burrito was good. The beefs chunks in her chimi were moist and tender. She was not as impressed with the chicken thogh. She said it was good but the beef chunks were better. The salsa was good also. I tried their hot tomatillo salsa and would reccomend it if you like you salsa spicy. The wait staff was polite and attentive for the most part. The waiter forgot my wife's refill at one point but that was not a big thing. My wife was impressed with the decor and she felt it made it morw authentic. I think it played more to the suburban aesthetic but I think it works for them. The menu was wide and varied offering a lot if choices, even on the kids menu. I have had some better Mexican food but this place is up there also. The taste and the atmosphere will bring us back when we are in the area again. read more

Riviera Maya is always a top contender when my family and I are going out to dinner. There are plenty of options and the portions are hearty. The service is fast and the food is hot. When seated, chips and salsa are immediately served. The salsa is refreshing with a hint of cilantro. The chimichangas, burrito maya, or quesadillas are all delicious choices. The vegetarian combo f is my go-to at the moment. It is a quesadilla stuffed with creamy cheese, peppers, mushrooms, onions, and tomatoes. We have been going to Riviera Maya for several years. The food has always been good and the servers as well. But our last visit so well. We asked to be seated outside. The first thing we noticed was our table seemed not only unclean but dingy! The service was rather slow. We ordered 7 meals online a d picked them up ourselves. When we got home we were missing an entire dinner. Another dinner did not have the taco shells. There was no salsa for the chips, and the quantity of chips were enough for only one person. We have been loyal customers for years. At the old location, the food was consistently good. At the new location, it's hit or miss. Some of the new staff are rude/unconcerned/etc. We sure miss the "small town" feel of the 116th St location. Business is booming for them though and we don't begrudge them success. The food there is always good as is the service, but our last few carry out experiences have not been good. We alway come up short on something. Yesterday the tortillas were missing for all the fajita orders. A previous time the queso was hard and had to be warmed up and then was thrown away because it tasted old. Each time we called in a had to mildly argue with the person over the phone on what was wrong with the order. This place was horseshit at best. Went in last Friday night, not very busy and waited 30 minutes for non-sizzling cold fajitas, and then I was told it was because they have "new cooks". That's a pretty weak excuse. Decided to try this place around 9:00 p.m. on a Friday. It was close and sounded fun. Arrived and were seated right away in a dark corner with a table of 10 next to us with 5 little kids, no thanks! Asked if we could move which they promptly did to a better table with a great view of the whole restaurant. They bring out chips and salsa almost immediately with water, the chips were warm and crispy and the salsa was pretty tasty, not too spicy. I had the strawberry margarita and my buddy had the mango one I think or something fruity, lol. I had the #6 on the menu, which was incredibly delicious. Our server was fairly young and seemed inexperienced, but it wasn't awful service, just a little slow. My only complaint was the Ricky Martin soundtrack or whatever was playing, seemed kind of cheesy. They close at 10:00 p.m. and when that time comes around, boy does it get quiet, they turn the aforementioned Ricky Martin music off, which makes it a bit awkward. To put it simply - VERY GOOD. The menu is nothing off the beaten path but my typical grilled chicken fajita salad was unique, full of flavor and absolutely one of the best I've had! I was super impressed with the decor, welcoming staff and cleanliness of this restaurant as well. As usual, service seems to be a priority in Mexican restaurants which is why I love going. They are quick ...polite and always keep my drink refilled. There is always enough chips and salsa to go around (and around) and I genuinely enjoyed my lunchtime experience here last week. Who knew about this place??? Apparently its been in business for about nine months and I hope it stays because i think I've just found the new best Mexican restaurant in Indianapolis. First, the food - Delicious! The chips are warm and thankfully not over salted as is too often the case. The salsa is well balanced and there is a hot sauce on the table if you want to amp up the heat. I had tamales, a burrito and an enchilada - all very good. The beef is well seasoned. They do not throw on lettuce and rice as filler and I am thankful for that. Plus, the cheese is not over done - again, thankful. Interesting that the salsa that is on the main course is not the same salsa for the chips - this makes great sense and shows some thoughtfulness about the cuisine. The service was completely adequate and the decor is a little eclectic, but nice and...Mexicanny. It looks like all the chairs have been custom made with the Maya name carved into the back - a nice touch. I'll be back soon and if the experience is the same, 5 stars for sure. read more

great spot for a speedy lunch! There are plenty of tables to accommodate large groups as well. Enjoyed their salsa but would have been ok with more of a kick to it. Chips/salsa and drinks came instantly to the table. Ordering from the lunch menu makes the choices much less overwhelming. Taco salad was nice and refreshing with shredded chicken or beef available. They leave your ticket with you and you can check out at the front when you are ready to go. I appreciated not having to wait on a server to get my bill paid when doing a work rush lunch. Met here on a Monday night with some girlfriends and were quickly seated. Our table was not cleaned off and the menus were pretty dingy. We ordered water to start and eventually made our drink orders. I opted for a beer because it looked like the margaritas were made from a mix. I tasted my friend's and can verify that. They forgot my beer and I had to ask for it again. The chips and salsa were good. I ordered the chicken fajita quesadilla and it was ginormous. I seemed to have no problem eating all of it though! Absolutely love this place! Same owner (Clemente) opened up shop in Anderson (Real Hacienda) years ago and it quickly become a local favorite. Imagine my surprise when it opened in Fishers. Portions are huge and full of flavor. Margarita's are fantastic. Chips & salsa you'll eat by the boat-load. Be sure to try the guacamole and spicy salsa too. For lunch, try the Speedy Gonzales and for dinner, opt for the chicken chimichanga. They don't disappoint. Service is outstanding. On a good day, you can be in and out in 30-minutes. I've eaten here quite a few times in the past year I've lived in Fishers. I am pleased with the service and the selection. I love the location (across Handel's Ice Cream) and the parking hasn't been a problem. The food is pretty good. As with a lot of mexican dishes, there are a lot of similarities in flavor. I usually get a big burrito with shredded chicken. The chicken is actually really tasty. It's on the salty side, but I would definitely recommend it at least once. It tends to be dry, but in order to be able to shred chicken properly, it is probably cooked for a long time and that will dry out a breast. Yeah, it's mostly white meat in those burritos. Mmmm. The chips and salsa are good. If you request the hot salsa, they'll bring a nice tomatillo-esque salsa that has a molcateje (sp?) flavor - kind of smoky. So why only 3 stars, then... Well, the cheese sauce is SO over powering and in the rare case that I remember to ask them not to pour it all over my food, I am more than happy to report I'd give Riviera Maya 4 stars. But the cheese sauce comes on almost every burrito and it covers the nachos. I often think restaurants overuse sauces when their food can't measure up to expectations. I don't think this is the case with Riviera Maya, I just think there is a demand for the stuff. The drinks are another reason I am less inclined to give more than three stars. I feel the house margaritas could be a little better. They taste very "chemically." Sort of artificial. As if bottom shelf tequila isn't bad enough. Sigh. Despite the crazy cheese sauce all over anything and the questionable house margs, I'll definitely be back - I might even spring for the top shelf marg and come back with an edit on how good those might be! read more

Service was OK, its a fairly new place, i'd assume everyone is still getting the swing of things and learning the job. The inside is decorated very nicely, lots of $$ put into it. First time in Maya. Front door already not working. Directions on the outside explaining how to open the door. Nice and clean on the inside. Salsa was sweet, service was lacking, no eye contact, didn't check to see if our food was correct or even good, no drink refills, no sweet salsa refills. Carne asada was pretty good, comes with the typical lettuce, sour cream, guacamole and beans and rice. My wife and our friend ordered chimichangas, came with the same sides mine did, but theirs were supposed to come with Mexican soup, according to the menu. But, they never received it, and server would have known that had he ever came back to check on us. So, the food gets 4 stars, but service gets a solid 2. So I averaged a 3stars. We will probably come back, just hoping to have a better server next time. read more

It's over priced as I've had way better Mexican food at half cost- but, coming from a bigger city than Indianapolis, cheaper and better is expected I guess. For quite awhile, this was in my humble opinion the best Mexican restaurant in Fishers, but sadly the last two times that we have been here it's been sub-par. The food is still pretty good, but the service is beginning to lack. The waitress that we have had the last two times has been very inattentive which means slow drinks, slow service, and slow to bring us our check. The restaurant is starting to look a little beat up too. The seat cushions on the large booths are starting to get torn up and the foam underneath is exposed. The bathrooms (according to my wife) were pretty disgusting and that is usually where we draw the line and stop going to a place. My first time here. My friend had fajitas and said they weren't seasoned at all. I heard its a new location. I had fish tacos and they were seasoned well. Atmoshere was noisy and loud. The servers were running all over the place doing their best, but lacked knowledge of the menu. The seat was wet and the table sticky. Our order was charged wrong and had to argue with cashier and manager about it. Not the best customer care! The beans are made with lard; the rice is made with chicken stock/broth. Yet both are listed under vegetarian options. Neither lard nor chicken extracts are vegetarian. The salsa was bland, mostly just unseasoned tomatoes. The cold chips were bland as well, not even salted. If you're looking for large portions, then head here. If you're looking for good food, good taste or good atmosphere, then go elsewhere. read more

Went here for lunch this past week. The interior is WAY decked out with Mexican-ish decor! I think kids will like the decor...tons of stuff to look at. There's also a patio for the warm weather, but I'm guessing this gets a bit exhaust-smelling during Fishers rush hour. Service was super fast but not super attentive, but at lunch, speed tends to matter quite a bit. The salsa was typical jarred type salsa, we found ourselves pouring hot sauce into it. It lacked any cilantro flavor (a negative for me). There are 3 types of hot sauce on the table, but nothing obscure or memorable. My friend had a chimichanga which looked pretty on the plate, covered in queso sauce, and he ate it without complaining. I am a tamale fiend...I ALWAYS have tamales or carnitas...hopefully both if I can convince whoever I'm with to order carnitas. The tamale was ok. Not gross, but not awesome. It was topped with a flavorful meaty chili sauce...like Skyline but without the Cincinnati cinnamon. Within the same week I had 2 other tamales which were way better than this one (from the Tamale Place and Mexican In Restaurant). In conclusion, would I drive up to Fishers to eat at this place? Hell no. If I was ON 116th St and the Nickel Plate was too busy would I cross the street and eat here again if someone else wanted Mexican? Yes, it's probable. read more

Good, fun Mexican place. Nothing super special on the menu, but a pretty decent variety and everything I've had has been quite good (if sometimes lacking a bit in punch/spice). I typically judge a Mexican place on their Chimichanga -- and theirs was pretty good but not the best I've had :) Riviera Maya is comfortable -- close to home, reasonably priced, nice fun atmosphere, decent drinks. Service is usually very prompt. It's good for family and groups because unless there's someone who just wholesale hates Mexican food, you're not going to offend anyone with this place. When I sat down and looked at the menu I thought, "Wow, guacamole for $3.50?" That's surprisingly cheap to me. I'm used to paying $4-$5. But when it came out super fast and looking mushy, I figured out why it was so cheap: it was made from the powdered stuff. The instant mash potatoes of Mexican food. The salsa wasn't much better. It struck me as canned store-bought salsa combined with canned crushed tomatoes dumped in for added texture. I had a chicken chimichanga for my entree and while it was okay, I could tell it was likely frozen and flash fried or reheated. It just had that dry chewy taste you get from microwaving or re-heating something. 2/5, would not recommend. read more

Riviera Maya is a staple in my boyfriend and I's lives!! This is my favorite Mexican restaurant. We go once a week. He always orders either the Ground Beef Taco Salad or the Acapulco Chimichanga, and I always get the Arroz con Pollo. The Margaritas can't be beat - I suggest the Peach flavored. Definitely suggest the bar for those without children on Friday and Saturday nights (it can get rather overrun with children in the main dining area). Yesss!! The margaritas here are amazing! I had a margarita on the rocks with salt on the rim. It was fantastic and I usually don't even enjoy margaritas that much! The chips and salsa were also very good. I decided to go pretty basic with my entree and just get nachos with ground beef and cheese and even that was delicious!
