Nice atmosphere. The menu is impressive and the options are endless over 26 options on combinations alone. The drinks are nice and large. The temperature inside was nice and cool. The salsa was mild and the chips tasted homemade. We went in a Tuesday and there was live music in the bar. Servers we nice and to the point not much for conversation but I saw they were hiring for all positions. Portions are nice size and the garlic shrimp salad came with 9 full size shrimp. Ever since a former Cheeseburger In Paradise was converted to this restaurant following the predecessor's going out of business, we have frequented this Mexican eatery. Every year the quality continues to fall. The cleverly named - yet slanderous, Gringo Steak, looks nothing like the picture. The tacos and all types of taco meat in general are always chewy, indicating fast cooking and horrible cuts. The staff is also now very lazy and will just flip towels around and stare at tables rather than remain gainfully employed (coming from the perspective of a former military service member). You will likely leave disappointed for how much you spent. read more

This place is always busy! My kids love going here and really enjoy their queso cheese. We have never had a meal here that we did not like! They make wonderful...and strong....margaritas!! There is always a couple drink specials and often food specials as well. The atmosphere is very unique! Most of the décor came from old town down restaurants and buildings. It is very colorful inside and everyone is very friendly! I would also recommend them for catering! We have used them to cater a swim meet before and the food was excellent! We also received way more food than we expected at a great price! Highly recommend their catering for a large group! I love this restaurant! It is a Mexican restaurant, but it seems to have some different offerings than what you usually see at most other Mexican restaurants. I can't expect to order my usual lunch combo #12, 18, 20 or 22--see how often I have been to Mexican restaurants? One can find some of the same combos, like a taco and enchilada with rice and beans, but also expect to see a taco salad fajita and huevos con chorizo. This makes the menu a little more interesting than the usual Mexican restaurant and offers more variety. When you enter the restaurant, to your left you will see a life-sized artificial palm tree next to a wooden gateway-like structure, giving off somewhat of a tropical vibe. Some of the architecture is kind of rustic looking, including some brick work on the walls. It is really inviting. When you approach the front entrance, you will see a revolving door straight ahead of you, as well as a set of regular swinging doors to the left. However, interestingly, the swinging door is locked from the outside, so the only option to enter is the revolving door. I use crutches to walk, and although I am able to pull/push a door open, it is difficult, especially if it is revolving or very heavy. In this situation, the revolving door was indeed very heavy and awkward, so my dad, who was with me (daddy/daughter lunch), had to help me push it around from behind me. The odd thing was that this whole time, we observed the hostess standing at the hostess stand watching me struggle, and not even attempt to walk the few feet to the door to help. The nearby swinging door that is locked from the outside is available to exit, but the hostess did not offer to open that as an easier option to enter. I can only imagine how difficult it would be for someone who uses a wheelchair to maneuver in and out. Speaking of handicap accessibility, once you manage to get inside the restaurant, although the decor is nice and inviting, the layout is extremely difficult for anyone with physical challenges. Straight ahead there are tables throughout the entire center of the restaurant, and booths along the walls. Although this is pretty much like any restaurant, they are set up so tightly that there is hardly space for someone with no mobility challenges to get through, much less someone who uses a wheelchair. Thankfully, I can turn sideways and squeeze through if I have to (my "sand crab" walk ). I feel like some improvements could be made to accessibility and attentiveness of staff, and the experience could be almost perfect. Like I said above, the food is good and some of it is kind of unique. However, the service can be somewhat slow at times, which is pretty typical for a Mexican restaurant. On my most recent visit, on about 1/15/2020, we came in and were seated, and waited for our server to come take drink orders. We waited maybe about 10 minutes, while several servers just stood around nearby chatting. Finally we were able to give our food and drink orders and they came soon after. The food was good and flavorful, and our server was helpful. Overall, this visit was not quite like our other visits to Riviera Maya, but the food was delicious and the atmosphere is really fun overall. I call to place a carry out order and it was $19.99 for a single order of fajitas instead of the 15.99 as stated on the menu. When I asked the person that took my order away that was, he said that was an old menu from four years ago and I asked why it couldn't be changed and he said that he didn't know how to he wasn't a person that could do that only the manager could so ask him if he would please notify the manager. I've been wanting to try this nearby restaurant for some time, and dinner with a friend on Labor Day proved to be the evening to give it a shot. What a huge disappointment. I'm giving two stars vs one because the salsa and chips were fresh and delicious, and the margarita was also good. Everything else was a disaster. Arrived, and had to wait nearly 10 minutes for a hostess to come to the stand and I was first in line and at least 6 arriving parties waiting behind me to be seated. In fact I had to ask a passing server if there was a host or hostess. One showed up from somewhere about three minutes later. Service was terrible. Took forever to put in our order. Once was delivered - never saw our sever. Had to ask passing staff three times for salsa, and it was only when I got out of my seat and walked to the front of the kitchen to mention that have asked for service three times. Asked when ordered if the Seafood enchiladas contained real crab, or imitation. Was told insistently that it was "real crab." It wasn't - it was manufactured, imitation "Krab." And the chicken tortilla soup was mostly chicken and tortillas, with next to no broth. Plus, couldn't find our server to pay our bill - we were never asked if we wanted additional drinks. Nice setting and easy parking - personnel disaster. As a longtime Fishers resident, this is so disappointing. read more

Really like the atmosphere and decor. The food is good. They have nice salsa and I love to try their specials - they always have something different on special so motivates me to try a different dish. Everything I've had has been really good - really like the chalupa though. Great place to take our toddler - he loves it too. Visited here tonight for the first time. My quesadilla was solid, but the arros con pollo was not the best. The cheese seemed almost watered down, and had a salty taste. Decent sized portions. The waitress was nice and attentive. They sang Happy Birthday, and gave free birthday treat, which was nice. read more

Riv Maya is our local go to place for Mexican. It has the same things your go to local place has... and it's good food and good portions. Our usual favorites are Quesadilla Mazatlan, Chimichanga Acapulco, Arroz Con Pollo, and the very common 2 ground beef tacos with rice and beans. You really can't go wrong. The wait staff is always super friendly and the food comes out fast. Cold corona with limes... and if you order a Margarita... ask for top shelf! That's my biggest tip at places like this- the taste difference is more than worth the up charge! They have some outdoor seating in the warmer months ... it's a shame it's not a bigger area. And I guess my biggest knock is that they don't make guacamole at the table. I would gladly pay for that- it makes a huge difference. read more

Tried & true! Riviera Maya never disappoints. Came in for a bite before checking out a movie. Took no time to be seated (a rarity, because it stays packed in here). I ordered the Pollo Loco with a small side of pico de gallo (the guacamole that comes with the entree needs the kick). My Hunny ordered the Riviera Maya Especial aka "killer fajitas with every protein u can think of" and the food came out lightening fast. My meal was hot & delicious. The chicken was flavorful and tender. Man! Riviera Maya is my jam!! We also ordered drinks. A CoronaRita w/a shot of Sauza for him & a Modelo Especial for me. The bill was roughly $60 with tip. We have enjoyed eating here several times, in person and carry out. They are constantly very busy, but that's a reflection of a good restaurant with repeat business. Its definitely worth a few minutes of patience! If you like margaritas, you must dine in and try their great selection. Carry out meals are nicely packaged in aluminum bowls with posterboard lids so they stay very warm. They fill the orders accurately, and include the extra sour cream or whatever we request. We recommend the enchiladas supremas, and you MUST try the chorizo queso! read more

Hello! We choose to go for this place last Friday night. It was very busy, but a large place, so we had a seat in about 8 mins, which was good. It was "typical" Mexican/ meets a little American food. I had the chimichanga. I felt the chimichanga was a little small. Also tried the fajitas. They were OK, BUT they don't give you an extra plate to eat them off of. Also, maybe this is an odd comment, the meat was cut so small, seemed odd. So, You must grab your tortilla, and make it on the same plate as the fajita, which means there is no room. Can I get plate?! The salsa on the table, WEAK, almost too saucy it felt more like or ate more like a tomato sauce, no spice no options for regular or spicy. The 13.00 strawberry margarita, was too sugary. The service was ok. The interior was what I have seen elsewhere. Customer service is everything. First impressions are everything. From the second we walked in, the hostess wasn't inviting, and had an attitude. She walked us to our table, and walked away without saying anything. Our waitress was also rude. She was being short, and when we would tell her thank you, she would walk away without saying anything. When we asked if she could bring us napkins, she walked away and never brought us any. We tried Riviera Maya for the first time a few days ago, and were pretty favorably impressed. The decor (a massive renovation compared to several restaurants that have preceded it in its space) is charming -- Lots of bare stone, attractive carved chairs, very artful and tastfully done. We went mid-afternoon, so were able to take advantage of the lunchtime pricing. The lunch portions were very ample, and even items like the fajitas were safely under $10. The chips are a little bland, but fresh, light, and crispy. A little bit of salt fixed the blandness, and then they were great. I ordered a side of guacamole for the chips, and it was freshly made and perfectly seasoned. I'll definitely do that again next time. I had a house margarita, on the rocks, with salt. The $9+ price (for 27oz) was a little steep compared to one of our other favorite local Mexican places, but not bad for the size of drink. It was good, pretty standard, not too tart, but nothing remarkable. I tried the beef chimichanga for my main course. It was full of meat, well-seasoned but not too spicy, and I didn't taste any beans, which is a refreshing change from other places I've tried recently. It was served straight-up, not buried under a sauce, which for me is a plus. It came with rice and beans on the side, which weren't mentioned in the menu. Had I known, I would have changed to all rice. (Not a bean fan, can you tell?) The rice was good, although again a little on the bland side for Mexican rice. It seems like they're catering more to American palates than being true to their Mexican roots. There were four of us in our party, and everyone was pleased with what they ordered (chorizo and eggs, fajitas, and a chicken dish whose name escapes me). We agreed that we'll all gladly go back again soon, and maybe we'll try some of the dessert items this time. The flan, especially, sounds wonderful. I looked the restaurant up on the web later, and it sounds like it's family-owned, one of about a dozen, mostly in Kentucky. If our first visit is any indication, I think they'll do fairly well in the Indianapolis market and we'll see a few more of them opening up soon. read more

If your looking for traditional mexican restaurant in Fishers, Rivera maya is number 1. Fast service, good food, good drinks at a good price. I have been here several times for dinner and lunch. Lunch time is great, because they know people need to get back to work, so expect immediate service. Chips and drinks pretty much right when you sit down! Traditional combo meals as well as larger meals if you are on the hungrier side. I like the interior of the place, they used to be on 116th and moved to the old Cheeseburger in Paradise building, I just hope it doesn't hurt their business traffic, because its kind of hard to find. read more

This place is amazing, 10/10 if I could put it, but they only let me 5/5 guess I'll just multiply times 2 or maybe a few more but dang the service is on another level and the food is so good I had to take it home to experience it tomorrow. Super nice staff even when you ask the food runner to get you a box all you gotta do is go ask the nice people at the front door. And they'll walk you in the right direction. I should have read some of the more recent reviews prior to taking the family to dinner at the new location. We loved the food and service at the old location; however, that is no longer the case. We were told 20 minute wait which was fine for the time of day we went. After checking with the host the 3rd time at 50+ minutes, she indicated the kitchen was backed up so it was taking longer for tables to clear, meanwhile there were empty tables spread across the restaurant. As we had younger kids with us, we wanted to confirm how long they felt it would take for food to get to the table. We were initially told 15 minutes by the host; however, when she asked the manager, it turned into 35+ minutes. At this point, we could not stay for dinner which was followed by the manager rudely saying that they cannot control if the kitchen gets backed up then walking away. Needless to say, if you have hours to kill and don't mind being rudely spoken to then this is your place. Based on my experience and others reviews, we will likely no longer being visiting this restaurant. read more

I have driven by Riviera Maya many times always telling myself next time I will stop, well this was that time. I went for an early dinner around 5 o'clock ,I was surprised at how large the building was inside although there were not many people considering the fact this was slightly before the dinner rush I would imagine. I chose a rather basic dish in the hopes that if the kitchen's game wasn't 100% on this evening it would still be tolerable. The food came out quickly and it was quite a bit better than I expected the flavors were good the food was hot and the order was correct. The hostess and the waitress were both polite and the waitress did a good job while not overdoing it and hovering, I imagine she didn't have many other tables at that particular time. The salsa was somewhat bland but I realize that's easy enough to fix with the myriad selection of hot sauce on the table and many people don't want things as spicy as I might. I try to temper my reviews with realistic expectations and do my best to keep it about the food and not my personal disposition at the time. Overall I enjoyed my meal and I think the place has quite a bit of potential ,again I tried not to set myself up for failure I would not come here for an unbelievable steak or fresh off the boat seafood that being said I was happy with what I was served, the place was clean, and the help was attentive and polite. If you want some better than average Mexican food in a place with a good atmosphere Riviera Maya nails it. read more

I would like to preface this review: I absolutely adore this establishment and their food is great! HOWEVER, we went in one weekend with our new puppy and had great service out on the patio. There were also several other families sitting out there with their dogs. We showed up the next weekend and were turned away and told that dogs were not allowed on the patio and our 11 week old puppy would have to sit on the other side of the fence. Now, I understand there are policies and I'm not upset about that. I'm upset at the lack of consistency. Either allow dogs in the patio or don't. But make sure ALL employees understand the policy so people don't travel and make the trip out to only be turned away or told to leave Fido on the other side of the fence alone. read more

I wanted to make sure that I remembered to do this review, as we are about 1 week into reopening post-Covid, and this was my first time dining in at any restaurant in at least 2 months. Hooray! Some semblance of normalcy was much appreciated. Since we are operating at 50% max capacity, as you enter you are given a wait number, and you may wait in your car until your table is ready. Tables are appropriately spaced apart, servers are wearing masks and gloves, and everything seemed very clean. We were happy to be able to have a great meal again, and the staff thanked us multiple times for coming, and reminded us that they need us! A nice surprise as this took over the old Cheeseburger in Paradise location. If you like your Margaritas strong, this is your place. I had the Juanita Enchiladas and my friend had the grilled steak salad with raspberry vinaigrette dressing and both were big hits. I also enjoyed the salsa and chips. Reporting for an early lunch on Saturday. Previously, my parents has eaten there and saw a neighboring table with a dish that impressed them. We didn't see anything that looked like that on the menu and the service staff was super helpful in figuring out what it was. Awesome start! Two baskets of chips and two bowls of salsa for the 4 of us? Thanks for not being stingy! The lunch came out fast and portions were huge. No complaints about the food! One pro-tip: it is Americanized fare and not spicy at all. Finally got the chance to try out Riviera Maya at their new location! I went for a quick lunch and it was fairly busy inside, but our food came out relatively quick and it was quite delicious. The chips and salsa always remained filled, along with our drinks. The service was great there and we even had a bigger party of 10! I ordered the arroz con pollo (chicken and cheese with rice). It was absolutely delicious! I think Riviera is the best quality Mexican food around Fishers. Everything tasted very fresh and cooked to perfection. I look forward to returning again soon! read more

This was our first time after we heard some great reviews. We were in a group of ten and were seated quickly. The interior was softly lit and very colorful. The food we ordered was sort of hit or miss but plentiful. The fajitas were a little bland and missed some spices. My seafood enchiladas was rather delicious. On Sunday with my coupon, I asked the waiter for the single order of steak and chicken fajitas. It costs $13.99. However, I thought with my coupon to buy one lunch entree, get one 50% off, I would get it for a reasonable cost. When we got to the register, the man said that my coupon was not applicable although I informed the waiter that we want to use it. Apparently, on Sundays (and maybe Saturdays), it is dinner only and no lunch options all day. Also, I wanted to scan my Spot On card for a point but with all the confusion, it was too late. First time here but I foind it to be very good. I got a burrito with ground beef and my wife got a dish with spicy chicken and beef chinks chimichangas. We both thought the burrito was good. The beefs chunks in her chimi were moist and tender. She was not as impressed with the chicken thogh. She said it was good but the beef chunks were better. The salsa was good also. I tried their hot tomatillo salsa and would reccomend it if you like you salsa spicy. The wait staff was polite and attentive for the most part. The waiter forgot my wife's refill at one point but that was not a big thing. My wife was impressed with the decor and she felt it made it morw authentic. I think it played more to the suburban aesthetic but I think it works for them. The menu was wide and varied offering a lot if choices, even on the kids menu. I have had some better Mexican food but this place is up there also. The taste and the atmosphere will bring us back when we are in the area again. read more
