I've been here twice now and this place hasn't disappointed. The big outdoor patio has lots of heaters and is protected from the wind so it doesn't get cold. They also have plenty of TVs to watch the sports games so whenever the dodgers are playing, they have a decent crowd. They have a small parking lot but there's only 3-4 reserved restaurant parking spots so you'll probably need to park on the street. They bring you free chips and salsa. I ordered a skinny margarita and the shrimp tacos. I always am scared getting a skinny marg because it is either super strong or not good but this one was the best I've had in a while. The shrimp tacos were yummy! My friend wasn't a big fan of them because they were too wet and didn't have enough crunch. The prices are good too. It's hard to find a place where you can order a margarita for $12 now a days. The servers were super welcoming and attentive. All around top tier service here! I'm sad writing this as a,customer of over 20 years but we won't likely return I had heard it's "changed" and it has. We went to brunch there and were surprised to see so many tables open . Now we know why. We waited a while to even be noticed to be seated. Moving out of the way as waiters went past and not even acknowledged. Past that it took forever to get water and even longer for my drink order food took a while and having an allergy to pork I asked for shredded chicken to be subbed I was told there may be a "slight up charge" (even though we were replacing chorizo and bacon but I said fine) When we did get it they had some pieces of grilled chicken instead but I didn't want to send back as it took a while (The shredded chicken would have been better with the dishes we ordered ) The food itself didn't taste as good as in the past It lacked flavor seemed to be less quality For a restaurant not even half full service took a while and I was never asked if I wanted another drink etc Then I pad the bill and that "slight up charge" was for "2 chicken breasts" At 19 dollars! (If there was a whole breast between the 2 dishes I'd be surprised but still! Even if there was !) let me remind you was replacing a breakfast meat not "adding" I expected 5 each at most. I could have ordered an entire other entree! The inside is a classic casual Mexican spot, while the outside is plastic chairs and turf grass that could be improved. The food is solid. Recently, I got the chicken tortilla soup bowl and Santa Fe chicken salad. The soup was good with tender shredded chicken. The salad was a bit disappointing as a salad and for the toppings. Another amazing lunch at Riviera Mexican Grill in Redondo Beach. Saul started us off with chips and two of their delicious salsas. Tori was our server and bartender and was nothing short of fantastic. Tori is professional, knowledgeable, and most of all kind and a joy to talk with. We started with Don Julio Blanco with club soda and three limes muddled with mint, and they were so good. We also had the chicken taquitos for an appetizer. For our entrees, my wife had the chicken enchilada plate, and I had the chile relleno and chicken enchilada. Both dishes were hot and tasty. The ambiance is cool and comfy. The service was horrible I had to wait an hour to get my table. During my visiting I had seen a rat passing by the fish tank and host stand. I had asked for carne asada and the meat tasted old. I would say this restaurant is a hidden gem. The portions are huge and great for the price. I got the Baja fish tacos, which were delicious. I wish they came out quicker because they were a little cold, but that's OK. I understand they can be quite busy. We also ordered the shrimp enchilada and the burrito. The chips are addicting. There's always a good amount of people inside and outside. Our waiter was friendly and had good recommendations. Dogs are allowed in the outdoor seating area. We had dinner here last night. The last time we ate here we noticed the quality of the food had gone downhill so we didn't have high expectations (one person in our party was craving a margarita). I got a ground beef taco with white meat chicken enchilada. The taco was good but just fell apart in one bite but the ground beef was good. I didn't like the enchilada sauce it was more like a salsa and not a sauce (to me). The inside of the enchilada tasted wet. Strange. My husband had the carne asada plate and he loved it however, their "guacamole " that came with it was the same at "scoop" I've ever seen on a plate. The salsa is the worst I've ever had from a restaurant. Ever. It's like ketchup mixed with store bought Tostitos salsa. Their food is dead average at best and this place is a total no-go and a pass if you live or visit the South Bay. The one on the harbor is as bad but a bit of a better view. I don't know how someone could screw up Mexican food this bad but it's the absolute gold standard for what not to do when making and serving Mexican food here or anywhere. It's honestly so bad that the margaritas which are somewhat serviceable aren't even fun because you have to then eat their chips and salsa while you drink the average marg. I cannot express in more sincere terms how truly basic and awful the food is. I'd rather eat Taco Bell 10 times out of 10. Please for the love of god go anywhere else. read more
