I've been dining here for many years. I can't recall every having less than a good experience. Last night I had the Camarones al Mojo de Ajo Plate which was fantastic. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and the presentation very good. The waitress was super attentive and made sure I enjoyed my meal. Pricing is good and their menu is very good with many choices. I don't understand why this restaurant does not attract more patrons. I've come here on occasion around dinner time and was the only diner at the location. The restaurant is certainly not hidden and the parking lot is very convenient. Maybe they ned to haver special nights such as an entertainment or Mariachis. Chips & Salsa are very good. Chicken Enchiladas are Ok when evaluated w/o regard to price, Very Good when evaluated with regard to price. All I drink is simple soda-pop, but at many of my visits here it takes a long time before someone gets around to checking the emptiness of my glass and provide a refill . . . . all the more exasperating given the small size of the place. I am so sorry to write this review. We have been going to Lupita's for many years. Always loved their meals. We ordered take out tonight. What a disappointment. The chicken tacos and chicken enchiladas have always been our favorite. Their generous serving of white meat made them very tasty. Tonight was a shocker. When I took the first bite, I knew something was wrong. Lupita's had replaced the white meat with some nasty tasting dark meat. It was horrible. Couldn't eat it. We went to Lupitas on Sunday, September 1st just before 9pm. They were accommodating and happy to get us in despite our late-ish arrival, they close at 9pm on Sunday. We got good/friendly service from Lilia. The chips and salsa were on point, and the main course was solid, not amazing, but adequate. I had the two-taco combo plate which come with rice & beans, it hit the spot. The inside décor is nice, a definite Mexican theme. Well, where should I start. We drove by yesterday and my wife reminded me that we had not been to Lupita since we lived in Lomita, that was 2009. So today we were headed in that direction around 11:45'ish. We were greated upon entering. There were only two other parties inside a table with one patron and a second with 4 persons. We placed our orders which was Huevos Rancheros and a bowl of Albondiga soup, both with corn tortillas, and our drinks. Chips and salsa came out fairly quick; however, for only being two other tables our food took about 25-30 minutes to come out. The waitress was friendly but never came back to check on us even after several minutes after we got there, she brought a burrito to the single customer on the table next to us. We finished our chips and salsa and still no visit by the waitress. I flagged her down and requested more chips and salsa. She brought chips but no salsa. I reminded her for salsa and she brought it. I was getting agitated from the extreme long wait. About 30 minutes later, she brought my wife's Huevos Rancheros with out utinzels or tortillas. She said my dish would be out soon. After a bit longer, she brought my bowl without tortillas. She said that the tortillas would be out. We asked for a fork for my wife. She brought my tortillas but not my wife's or the fork. I reminded her that my wife had also requested tortillas and a fork. The only saving for being a zero stars is that my wife liked her meal. My Albondiga soup was okay, the broth had a different taste then what I'm used to but that's expected from restaurant to restaurant. I requested a to go container for my soup. She brought it and asked if I wanted a plastic bag to which I said yes. She brought the check, then the receipt without the plastic bag. She went back to the kitchen and I waited for a bit but decided to not wait any longer for the plastic bag. By this time there was only one other table with two customers whom had barely placed their order. If we decide to return on 16years from today, I'll probably call in my order in advance so we don't have to wait such a long time to get our meal. Imagine how long more it would be on a busier time of the day. Maybe they have more staff on duty at those times, but I guess we will never know since this experience left a sour taste. read more

Absolute worst joke for a taco salad. I would recommend Taco Bell over this place. A completely flavorless container filled to the brim with chips, a sprinkle of lettuce and barely any ground beef. Their prices are through the roof for moderately decent food. I was shocked to be charged over $75 for 2 fajita dinners. The worst part is there was maybe 6 ounces of meat and the rest was just greasy onions & peppers. What a rip off. read more

If you're in the mood any old Mexican food, and Lupitas is the most convenient for you, then it will get the job done just fine. The tamale and chile colorado are excellent, the shrimp and crab enchiladas are pretty good, and everything is presented well. Where it falls short is that everything is a little on the bland side, and the fried stuff (chile relleno, crispy taco, and tortilla chips) is way too oily. The location is on a fairly busy stretch of PCH, but left turn access is ok. The restaurant itself is nice enough for when you're ready to start eating indoors again. read more

Picked up 2 taco salad orders for my mom and I, little did I know the taco salad is actually nachos. Literally 90% chips. May not look like a big deal from the outside, but the food is GREAT! The portions are large, so you may want to share if you loaded up on their yummy chips and salsa or ordered an appetizer. If you are in a rush this isn't your vibe. If you want to relax, have a cocktail and visit before you eat, this is your vibe. Drinks are generous and quite a variety too. I ordered the shrimp and crab enchiladas; the shrimp are LARGE and SO SWEET, SO FRESH! The supreme fajita is definitely for two people. We were stuffed. It was supposed to be happy hour but not sure what we got that was happy hour but I believe we didn't pay happy hour prices. I have an annual tradition - I never eat at a Mexican restaurant on Cinco de Mayo. They're always crowded as everyone else feels compels to eat out on that day. I often like to deliberately go to a Mexican restaurant on Quatro de Mayo, the fourth of May, because the restaurants are almost always empty and you'll get the exact same food but with better service and a lot less crowd caused annoyances. Chips and salsa were provided first. The chips were fine. Two salsas were provided, one a more commonplace salsa with a chunks of tomatoes and a small amount of cilantro, and a second salsa with pureed tomatoes and a more mild spice taste. My entree was the Chicken Mole Plate. Moles are a little like curries in that there is no standard list of ingredients that make them up, but they do fall into similar families. This mole was a dark chocolate mole (negro) with a tendency toward the sweet side. I know that moles can be sweet but my personal preference is for them to be less sweet, or if they are sweet to keep it on the subtle side. However, the mole was good and with the help of some corn tortillas I scooped up almost all of it. The chicken was cut thin and seemed good - I say that because the mole had a tendency to overwhelm the chicken meat. The side of Spanish rice was average. The side of beans were served in a bowl with melted cheese on top - not salty and very good. Service wasn't slow when I was here yesterday afternoon but seemed a little slow relative to the small number of customers who were present. Not a problem for me but I could see service becoming problematic when this place is more crowded. read more

We found this place a few months ago. You know a Mexican restaurant is legit when other Mexicans are eating there when you walk in. The salsa is made fresh with identifiable pieces of onion, green onion and some tiny tomato pieces. It isn't spicy or run through a blender like some other places. We haven't been disappointed in any of the dishes we've tried. Chile Colorado, fajitas, flautas, tequila shrimp with carne asada. The house margaritas and horchata are great too. (I never trust a Mexican place that doesn't serve horchata) Only one caveat. They are SLOW. Everything is made to order so be patient. Have a drink, maybe another basket of chips... relax. read more

We were looking for a Mexican restaurant on New Year's Day, and Lupita's was one of the few that were open. We'd never tried it before, and we could not have been more pleasantly surprised! The ambience was fantastic, the service so friendly and efficient. And the FOOD!!! WOW! So, so delicious! From the chips and salsa to the main courses, it was all absolutely FANTASTIC!!!
