Stopped by Hook & Plow for lunch and really enjoyed it. We started with the salmon poke and clam chowder. The poke was fresh and flavorful, and the chowder was rich, creamy, and loaded with clams. I ordered the salmon salad, which had a perfectly cooked piece of salmon with crispy skin over fresh greens and roasted vegetables. We also tried the steak sandwich medium rare, and the steak was tender with great flavor. The sourdough and arugula really brought it together. SALMON POKE DELECTABLE ! Came here for lunch with my son and we loved everything we had. We started with the salmon poke and it was uniquely marinated and delicious (would think about getting this as my main next time). My son order the pick three (they also have a pick two). He got clam chowder which creamy and also uniquely flavored, it had bacon, he had the fish tacos which were delicious, the toppings made them even better, and the furikake fries. I ordered the steak sandwich, it was really good but a lot sweeter than I expected with a shallot jam. The bread was toasty and the melty cheese was great. We shared the fries but even had some extra to bring home. The only thing I didn't love was my cocktail. I don't remember what it was called some spicy tropical drink. It would have been ok but there was some cherry foam on top that I don't think was listed on the menu. I dislike cherry flavored stuff it tastes like cough syrup to me. So if I'd known I would have ordered something else or ordered it without the cherry. I would definitely come back again. I especially recommend the lunch specials they are a good price. I think generally H&P is below average but my last visit was a hard one. I had the Ahi Tuna sandwich and it was just off all around. Fishy fish, oversauced, wrongly paired fixins, and crusted over done and way over oiled bread. It was like the bread was for a grilled cheese to dip in a tomato soup or something, so you make it very crusty? So much arugula and capers. Just whole thing was wrong. I was with 4 people we all got different things and nobody finished their plate. Go back to KISS y'all nobody wants to eat a dry bowl of Kale or cut up their mouth on trying to be fancy but not actually fancy bread. read more

Yum! The location of this place is awesome since it's in the Riviera Village. Very much indoor/outdoor flow. We sat outdoors and it was a bit awkward all around the fire pit, since we had small kiddos, but I can imagine that would be nice at nighttime with the fire pit on. They have kids menus and crayons and can sub fruit for fries, which is great. Both kids got grilled cheese with fruit, and they liked it. My husband and I split some dishes: tuna crudo, peach and burrata salad, and crispy chicken sandwich. Tuna crudo was awesome - definitely recommend that one! Peach and burrata had a great flavor combo, but it basically is a dessert on some arugula lol. I was expecting fresh peach slices, but it looks like they were diced and marinated. Not too surprised since it is January :). Crispy chicken sandwich was good, but a bit too salty (I'm not usually one to say that either). The sliders were the best thing we tried, the crunchy onions with the caramelized sweet onions and the cheese sauce made the superb. The Grassfed beef was juicy and flavorful. I kinda wished it was a whole burger though, the sliders were very small. The fish taco was good but a little bland, once again very small. The shrimp cocktail was solid. Drinks were good. Food/Taste/Flavor: 3/5 - ordered the Hook & Plow Benedict with smoked salmon, two poached eggs, brava crispy potatoes, marinated capers, and hollandaise sauce. The smoked salmon was quite salty, the potatoes a bit bland, and the capers quite sour. So if I got a bite of everything, it was fairly good but it was a bit difficult to hunt for the tiny capers and ensure that the ratio of salmon to potatoes were perfect. Service: 5/5 - we arrived just after 10:00 as they were still setting up. Once ready, they immediately greeted us and let us pick any seat that we preferred. He gave us his full attention with no urgency so we were able to just enjoy our meal and chat. Ambiance: 5/5 - we sat outside on a beautiful Saturday morning with some holiday decorations. Unfortunately my niece and i had a not so great experience yesterday 9/9/26 :/ we ordered the tuna crudo and it didn't go well. Presentation was nice but the tuna was bad. Like literally. Smelled and tasted bad. We politely let the server know and she said," oh yeah we were just talking about that.".... Like what??!... they literally knew it was bad and served it to us anyway. I've been coming to hook and plow for 5 years consistently, the food and drinks are absolutely incredible. I came inside today to sit at the bar, have a meal and a drink with a friend, and it is so unbelievably warm inside. It's like the AC isn't working at all. I see the employees sweating behind the counter and I can tell that they're miserable too, though they put on a good smile for us. This is one of my favorite spots. It was a beautiful 4th of July day and Hubbers and I didn't want to waste the day. So we woke up early-ish, stopped at the coffee shop for waker-uppers as well as pup cups for fur babies we were with, then took them to the dog park. While there, Hubbers and I discussed where to go for lunch. Dog friendly is a must since we had pups with us. Using the process of elimination, we thought this was the best place to go. We came through early so street parking wasn't a challenge. It was so early, in fact, that this place was r even open yet. So we took the time to explore its immediate surrounding areas: shops, more eateries, learning the beach is only a couple blocks away, etc. It wasn't very busy so we were seated immediately. The sun was blaring a bit much so we opted for shade (they have plenty of umbrellas, so all good!) Immediately, we knew exactly what to get the pup. We wanted to try so many things on the menu but we decided to get a couple of starters and go from there: ROASTED PEAR AND BURRATA: Our server (my memory sucks, but I think his name was Tyler?) suggested we split the plate (at no extra cost) as we might enjoy it more. He was right, it was easier. But I'll say this: I was addicted to this salad - I almost ordered another to take home! The blend of burrata, arugula and pecans with the truffle dressing were perfect. The cinnamon wasn't strong, but it added to the taste. SEAFOOD PLATTER (+ extra half dozen oysters): Everything was fresh! The oysters were shucked clean, the shrimps were bigger than what I'm used to (delish!), nice sauce on the Peruvian scallops, ceviche was seasoned well and came with guac a side of tortilla chips and the tuna poke (also with guac) was excellent. This platter sure got us off to a good start - and almost finish! CLAM CHOWDER: We were gonna Antonio this, but we were much too curious. And boy, were we glad we got it: it is one of the best clam chowders we've had. (Top two, for sure!) It was very tasty, and very hearty! There was a lot of depth and love made with this soup. Get this! TEMPURA FISH TACOS: We were kinda full at this point, but this we also had to try. Made to order, fish was battered thin. It honestly didn't need anything: the sauce was a good match with the fish. Me likey! We liked this place so much, we came back with two other peeps with us (before I got the chance to write a review!) We were served by Brittany who was also very friendly and welcoming, but not as efficient or attentive as Tyler. (We didn't get one of our orders - which happened to be my favorite part and burrata salad - and it was hard to flag her done when needed. I'm not faulting her for that, too, they did seem understaffed. FOOD: 5. There was nothing we didn't like! SERVICE: 4.5 (5 for Tyler, 4 for Brittaney.) VALUE: 4. More than fair. PARKING: Street only. Fantastic food! We had a group of 9 people and booked a table on the patio. Everyone loved what they ordered! We started with calamari, furikake fries and battered avocado. Then I had the shrimp and grits, which was a perfect dish - I only wish I had the space to have eaten more. It really was rich, cheesy, creamy and good with jumbo shrimp and perfectly cooked sunny side eggs. Dessert was this yuzu cheesecake, which was not to tart or sweet. Just a perfect note to end on! I was pleasantly surprised how wonderful the food turned out. The panko avocado was rich, crispy and came with a delicious dipping sauce. The beef dip sandwich was roll your eyes back, with the crispy bread, flavorful tender beef, incredible sauce and melty cheese was so frickin good! The pooches loved the meal just as much. They got a wagyu burger and bacon strips. Can't remember our servers name, but she absolutely adored dogs and she was the sweetest server of all time. Quite disappointing service. I made a reservation for Mother's Day and waited 5 mins just for the hostess to come. That would have been fine except the restaurant was nearly empty and staff was standing and talking, looking at us from inside. We finally got seated, a waiter came by and took our coffee order. (He did bring us water) That was the last time he came to our table. He was busy preparing other tables--not even serving. We never got our coffee. He never stopped back. After 15 mins of seating, we left. He didn't even notice. It was Mother's Day brunch, no special menu, not much staff. Bummed I wasted a reservation at this place; no other place could take us bc you needed a reservation. Anyway, so disappointing!! Just glad we didn't spend $200 on a mediocre experience. Met up here with a group of friends for a dinner and did a variety of apps including their oysters (had this incredible mignonette with cilantro emulsion), calamari on special, ceviche, burrata salad and the star of the show their cheddar biscuits.
