I really wanted to like this place especially since they have bottomless brunch with food for the low price of $45, however the food choices which are served tapas style were very limited on variety. Most were egg and carb based. The only meat was empanadas or one of the omlettes. For someone that limits their bread intake and doesn't eat egg I caught myself wishing I have chose unlimited drinks and ordered my food from the ala carte menu. Not sure if I will return. Randomly came for Brunch @12pm on a sunday. Reservations are not required. Seated tables. There is also a bar area and taller bar tables, including regular seats. Someone mentioned it's almost like a cafeteria set up and I agree. Brunch Options (Sat/Sun 11AM-215PM) - $40 all you can eat/drink from a tapas menu and a mix and match of OJ Mimosa, Champgane, Bloody Mary, Red Sangria and White Sangria - $25 All you can Drink or all you can Eat from the bottomless brunch menu (with options of ordering standard entrees from an Entree brunch alacarte menu or dinner menu) I opted for the AYCE brunch/drink option. Mimosas & Bloody Mary were good. The food was tapas style but def. portionable. Empanadas were the best! Dates wrapped with bacon were also good and rice&bean and plantains. For me, there wasn't much on the Brunch menu - many seemed the same with a slight difference (like Rancheros in meat/veggie style etc.) If I were to return for brunch, I would likely do the $25 to drink and get an entree (which had steak yummm!) In the bar area are two tv's. We watched a bit of the NFL game on mute. Initially, the restauarant was playing great Spanish music and then the music style changed to more of pop/today's hit music after a certain time. Once the music changed, it became more of an enjoyable vibe because I also knew some of the news being played. Waitreess and Bus person were wonderful!!!!! Absolutely love Riviera Tapas - I've been here a couple of times now for both brunch and dinner. While I actually love their dinner menu more, the bottomless brunch is very hard to beat, especially in the DMV. I'm often surprised there's not more people lined up for brunch. As a tapas place, it's best to come with a large group so you can share food! My favorites: - Patatas bravas. Potatoes with sauce on them. Sounds simple, and it is, but it's also so delicious. - Boquerones con vinagre. If you like anchovies, this is for you! Balanced out by the garlic toast. - Any of the tacos. I believe it comes with two per order. - Lomo de Buey. So tasty, and they cook the filet nicely. The polenta is perfect with it. - I think they used to have scallops which was absolutely amazing, but I don't see it on the menu anymore. However, once you get inside you realize that not only do they have a fantastic bar with plenty of drinks on the menu, they also have great food options too! It's a 'no' for me. As a caveat I did not try the cocktails and they looked very good. But the reason for my low star review is primarily the bartender/server who rang up my to-go order who was borderline rude and with stank attitude to boot. She does not need to be customer facing. I came in on a Saturday eve about 7pm. Upon walking in, the young lady who greeted me at the door and pointed me to the bar to place my carry out order was very friendly and kind. This was my first visit and I was looking around at how cute the place was and thinking of sharing it with friends. However, before I knew it the pleasant vibe turned into being totally put off and two seconds from sharing choice words. My chosen tapas dishes were ok, but overall could use a bit more flavor. But by no means can I speak to other dishes on the menu and there may be some great options. Yet, I would never go back based on my interaction with the person behind the bar and how unwelcome and irritated I left feeling. We had the food delivered. The service was fast and the food was good! We ordered the lamb chops-there were only 2 in each plate so a bit disappointing but they had good flavor. The fingerling potatoes had a great flavor. We tried the datiles they were good as well. My husband tried the steak-Buey Asada he liked it and my son the chicken empanadas-there was not a lot of chicken in them but they were ok. The shrimp and grits were delicious! The bacon was nice and crunch and the dates were nice and slightly sweet. The barbacoa tacos came with two tacos and the filling was plenty for each taco. Meat was tender and the toppings were good. The lamb chops only had 2 pieces of meat with a side of potatoes. The lamb chops were a bit on the skinny side. The crab cake with cheese grits were a bit small. We also ordered dessert and got their churros with warm chocolate. That dessert was worth it. Other than the small portions, the food here is good. The staff here are great and very friendly. Tonight was my first time here and let me just tell you I can't wait to return and try more dishes. Everything we tried was delicious. I'm so full and content. The guacamole didn't look like anything special but the flavor was awesome. The potatoes just hit the spot with the included two sauces. Everyone enjoyed their desserts, we did tres leches which came with strawberry on the plate, churros with chocolate sauce and the chocolate mousse. I'm honestly already planning out my next visit. Also, the top shelf margarita was really good, not too sugary and plenty of alcohol. And to top it all off, the servers kept refilling our waters so we never had to deal with waiting for more water (one of my least favorite experiences). I cannot say enough great things about riviera tapas bar. One of my friends found them in college, and it has become our holy grail get together spot for brunch. You CANNOT beat the menu and the deal for $25 bottomless food or $40 bottomless food&drink. My personal faves on the menu are the chicken empanadas (ask for the siracha aioli sauce), pancake, and bacon wrapped dates. But there is so much that I didn't even cover that is a 10/10. Our favorite server was Ari, but she left. Ivan is now our fav who keeps putting up with us and our one million requests. The food is alway good but this time the place was freezing cause cold and cold I really couldn't enjoy my food. It came out hot but end up cold and unenjoyable. I was extremely disappointed. Other customers were complaining as well and when leaving mostly everyone had a coat on eating. We are not even in the summer season yet! Came to eat dinner at Riviera Tapas Bar last evening with 3 friends. One couple had already been here twice already. Since they came, Riviera Tapas Bar now serves beer and wine! Since we had a good number of people in our party, we decided to order a variety of dishes, only a few of which where duplicated. Here's the complete list grouped instead of ranked: Amazing: Mejillones Salvajes (mussels) - very very good. I'd get these again for sure. They are great for sharing, but I wish they gave us a shell plate. Patatas Bravas - crispy potatoes and great sauces. Pimientos de Patron (blistered shishito peppers) - the blistering on these is perfect. I hope you win pepper roulette (wherein one in every 10 or so is super spicy). Vieiras a la Plancha (scallops) - Cooked perfectly with a nice cajun-ish rub on it. Spinach with Garbanzo - an odd combination, but it works. Good: Calamari Fritos (calimari) - standard calamari Crab Cakes Over Cheese Grits - These crab cakes were (I think $11)? You get two, and they are decently sized. I've had better crab cakes, but the grits were great. Datiles (dates) - sweet and salty and bacon. Empanadas - well made and crispy. Use the dipping sauce to cut the dryness. Grilled Salmon Lemon Butter - the brussels were decent. The salmon was nothing special. Jamon Iberico -100 % Acorn Fed , Iberico Black Leg - This is actually one of my favorite things in the world, but it was not as magical as it usually is, but we're not in Spain... I don't remember trying the Gambas al Ajillo (shrimp). There was a white sangria, two beer and I think a red wine also ordered. I want to add that it appears that they use a good deal of butter for many of these dishes. Butter being one of the three Bs of cooking, the other two are bacon and beer. The white sauce on top of many of the seafood dishes is also pretty similar (maybe the same?). The service was pretty spot on, we got water when we were low, drinks were refilled as well. I'm glad this spot is open in our neighborhood, and look forward to returning again and again. As for the layout of the restaurant, it's pretty close to the old S&J if you remember. I picked up dinner from here and it was really good. My favorites were the following; - Chicken Quesadilla - Datiles - Bruselas - Gambas de Ajillo The tacos de barbacoa had great sauces, but the meat was hard on the edges. The churros with chocolate sauce were good, but a little greasy which can be easily resolved by putting them on a paper napkin to absorb the oil. We went with option #2 and got two mimosas. We loved every food item we ordered! The Patatas Bravas were perfectly cooked, with the salsa and aioli combining flavors really well. The Pan Con Tomate was so good, we ordered it twice. The empanadas (beef and chicken) were cooked to perfection, and the dips they came with were perfect. A couple years ago, my family found this gem hidden in Riverdale on Mother's Day. Because we waited too long to make reservations where we would normally have gone everywhere was booked. So we decided to go to Riviera Tapas Bar which was able to seat us , they were newly opened. It was so nice, each table had flowers and they gave us to take home. The service was great, the waiter was super friendly and the food was delicious. This past weekend we ventured out for the first time since lockdown with grandkids to actually dine in. Our challenge was my daughter and I had recently transitioned to vegetarian but grandsons are not. We went to a couple other restaurants but they didn't have the variety to please us all. So we decided to try this place. At first glance the menu looked great for the kids but not for my daughter and me so we left. Only to be signaled back by the owner who gave us another menu. We explained what we were looking for and she said they had dishes to suit us and they can make others to suit our needs. We were seated outside and it was super comfortable. The enclosed space was sunny and they had gas heaters in case we needed. The food was delicious, we had the tropicalisima juice which included mango, pomegranate, cranberry and passion fruit juices garnished with/orange slice, Quinoa with roasted vegetables, Blistered Shishito peppers, Tacos de Barbacoa, Chuletitas de Cordero and fried plantains and Churros for dessert. Did I mention how happy I am that this place is in my neighborhood?? I just visited Riviera Tapas Bar at their BRAND NEW LOCATION (directly across the street from the previous location) and was so impressed by the new digs! Such a nice upgrade--Table and booth seating, nice sized bar with a flat screen for sports watching, and a separate space for private dining. They also have bistro lights and seating outside when the weather warms up. Super cute and chic! The service and food/drinks are still as top notch as ever. This time a girlfriend and I came for HH on a Friday and were very pleased. The happy hour prices are very reasonable (aka a steal compared to DC) and there are ample options for food and drinks from $6-$9 each. HH runs from 4-6 every weekday with an extended HH on Wednesdays until 10pm. It was getting pretty packed for dinner so I can't wait to try their dinner menu next! read more

The new location is so much better. Feels more upscale and not like a dive that happens to serve tapas. The service was good--waitress was nice and worked around our food allergies. The food was good and bad. The scallops were outstanding. Big, not overcooked and perfectly seasoned and seared. Brussel sprouts and calamari were great. Riviera improved in my opinion in the flavor dept. But some dishes were not something I'd order again. Barbacoa tacos were dry. Quesadilla was too cheesy and yes that is possible. The spinach salad with ginger and sesame dressing was sugary sweet in a bad way. It was suggested that ginger syrup is used. Wha??! Gross. There is a shortage of fresh things on the menu, with the only other salad being a Caesar. And apparently there is no other vinaigrette in the house. They just don't do salads. You can have a great meal at riviera, but if you like fresh produce with your meals, your options will be limited at riviera. read more
