I've been to this bar a few times now, and unfortunately the experience has been consistently disappointing because of how rude some of the bartenders are. It's not just me -- I've noticed other customers and even people I've come with point it out as well. I completely understand that working in a busy bar can be stressful, but there's a difference between being direct and being unnecessarily mean. A bar is supposed to be a fun, welcoming place, and the attitude from certain staff really takes away from that atmosphere. I'm sharing this because I think it's worth the management knowing -- people notice, and it does make a difference in whether or not we want to come back. Headed up to Truckee for a night of ice skating and stopped into RMU for some bites. With 7 of us we were able to try a lot of menu items. The burger was one of the best I have ever eaten and the Mac n cheese was amazing. Chicken wings were perfect And the crab Sando was on point. The mushroom sandwich we added chicken to and that was fantastic. The duck fat fries are the way to go. We sat in the Carriage House and Matt was a great bartender. Cozy and fun environment with some games you can play while you wait for your food. Highly recommend this place and we will be back from Reno soon to enjoy some more delicious food items and drinks. read more

Wanted to try new places our second time in Truckee and ended up here. We came in right at opening, 2pm. We sat at the bar. The gal didn't give her name but was completely absorbed in conversation with her coworker who was off that day. We ordered off the Happy Hour menu and the food & drinks were delivered rather quickly. The burger was a very good, hand packed pub burger with fresh fries. My husband had the blonde ale and I a well drink. We took advantage of the train crossing and had a well shot for $3 each. The building is an amazing three story historical. ( Had to add that). The bill came and everything full price! "Oh, I forgot it was happy hour", was the response. "I can't do a new bill, the system is weird. I'll just give you a discount." The bill should've been $45 and was $64. She gave a $16 discount. Maybe pay a little more attention to your patrons?!?! read more

This was a great find! I don't think we would have even seen this place if it wasn't for Yelp - and glad we did! My husband had the burger and I had the chicken sandwich. He said it's one of the best burgers he's ever had. and the chicken sandwich was phenomenal. They make their own pickles and they are AWESOME. The people next to us had the Brussels sprouts and chicken wings and said they were great. The guy behind the bar (whose name I sadly did not get) and the chef were great about answering our questions. The service and food are terrific, and we can't wait to go back. The only reason I didn't give four stars was that there are no inside tables (where do you sit in the winter?) and the menu is pretty limited. 9/15/24 A friend and I visited this place as we had heard raving reviews about the food. Upon entrance the. Ambiance was very sophisticated and cool looking the building looks like it would be a home , it's very interesting . The bartenders who took our order were very well informed and helped us choose our food items. We chose the spicy and sweet wings and the kale strawberry salad. Presentation wise the food was beautiful and looked very fresh . However taste is give the wings a 6/10 and the salad a 7/10 The salad kale was very refreshing and crunchy but the dressing was bitter and kind of ruined the experience. The wings sauce was not the best and the wings were not crunchy . While I loved the presentation the overall taste left something to be desired . Stopped in after a 16-mile hike for a burger and a beer (ok, glass of wine) and thought it was delicious. A little on the pricier side, but it's Truckee so I guess that's expected. All food orders take place at the bar--which is challenging if you're not seated at the bar, because the bartender is busy serving up drinks and taking food orders. It took me and a friend a good 15 minutes each to even place our order... not sure how this works during busy times, but I would imagine it can be frustrating. I liked the vibe though--an old house with random seating throughout, a bar, food, art, and a ski shop of all things. What a funky spot! The building itself is worth checking out, but I have become a big fan of RMU. All of the food and drinks we've gotten here have been great, and I appreciate that they have a mocktail specific menu. Really cool concept to shop while you eat and drink, but they also put on all types of community events like night time bike rides, making them an important part of the Truckee community as a whole. This is our go to place. The carriage house is great - highly recommend to sit out there or on their patio by the carriage house where they have fire pits & corn hole. My husband says its the best burger in town. We love the seasonal change of the food menu & the changing of the cocktail menu. They have a nice outdoor/patio area and decent beer selection. Food is okay, nothing special. Set up of having to go to the bar to order food is fine, but can be less than ideal. It makes me think food was added to a bar set up as an afterthought. Service needs improvement. When our food was brought to us my oldest daughter who had soup asked for a spoon. The reply was essential get one for yourself at the bar. I found it an odd response for a person hoping for a generous tip stemming from an oversight of not bringing one with the soup. As a fellow business owner I recognize that different people will manage their businesses differently. My two cents of advise is that while I can understand how locals can feel invaded by the tourist crowds, I would not recommend having your employees blatantly prioritizing locals by providing service to all of them before even looking at any out of towners as a business practice. Your favorite mustache sporting, Subaru driving bro spent $20 on beers vs my almost $300 on food and drinks. We stopped here for lunch a week or so ago and had a very nice meal sitting outside. We ordered in the bar as directed and enjoyed looking around because it's such an interesting building. The list of drinks they offer is huge and after reading through it all, we ended up with no thing fancy - just Mai Tais and cokes! Good though. Headed up to Truckee for a wedding. Decided to meet friends from Reno for dinner and live music and found RMU Truckee. Great little spot with really good food. The small menu featured burgers, Nashville Hot chicken sandwiches, Ahi Tuna tacos and Brussel sprouts. The only knock is it is a bit small and gets crowded quickly. You also have to order your food at the bar which can get busy as well. However, the service was good and the bartenders were friendly. We would definitely go back. Love the atmosphere, food, people watching and live music. Definitely worth a try if you are ever in Truckee. read more

Fun spot for a little date night. Get food or just drinks. Lots of different drink specials (our favorite is the $3 shot when train goes by). It can get pretty loud when it gets busy. Ladies restrooms weren't super well tended and only 1 bartender for most of our visit. read more

I've tried to give RMU multiple chances because the place really has so much potential (great atmosphere, good location) but the management is truly the worst I've ever experienced. During my last visit, I was standing at the bar when the blonde manager physically shoved me out of the way to get to the door, throwing me into a group of people without so much as an "excuse me." I was completely sober and caught totally off guard. I've since heard similar stories from others about how rude and unprofessional the management can be, which is honestly such a shame considering what this place could be with the right leadership. Okay so happy I came across this place as we were leaving Tahoe. This French dip was absolutely phenomenal. I had one at another restaurant and was so disappointed. This redeemed my whole trip. The meat was seasoned well and was tender. The fries were seasoned well and had a good crunch. Their dry rub chicken wings were also sooo good. They were very flavorful, the crunch was just right, and they were juicy. My boyfriend had their chicken sandwich and also enjoyed it. We had a few drinks but I don't remember what they were.
