There were two customers ahead of me. I looked at a few items in the store and was helped in about five minutes. I was measured for an insole. Staff heated the insole. I then stepped on a piece of equipment that would mold the insole to my foot. Staff were super helpful. She had me try on some slight compression socks. Once the insole was ready as well as my results, staff got me a pair of shoes. She placed the insoles inside and had me try them on. They felt so good. Well, the sales people in the store were fine and the selection was good. When I bought my shoes in January of last year, they apparently signed me up for a VIP package. Never told me I was signing up for a VIP package. Must've used an explicit denial on the point-of-sale system that made you check a box that said I do not want to be part of the VIP system because I didn't check any boxes and I got a bill from them this month for a one year renewal of a family membership. A membership, which was not explained which the price was not explicitly called out and which is not on my receipt. Apparently this is a well-known scam they run. They were sued for it in 2019 Calling the police-800 number was not helpful they magically can't find my "membership." They can't use the phone number that I used (which is how their POS system will look it up if I go buy shoes in the store ) and we're generally unhelpful. read more

While I often find myself on the north side of Mayo Blvd visiting the Harkins movie theatre or the stores or restaurants there, I haven't been to the south side of Mayo Blvd for quite a number of year. A doctor recently recommended that I visit Road Runner Sports, so I made a trip out of it recently. I was intrigued and impressed by the service, products, and the way things are organized at Road Runner Sports; however, due to stopping by on the weekend, I had a long wait to see someone. I know to come on a weekday after work in the future. I recently learned that I needed stability running shoes to complement my orthotics. When I entered Road Runner Sports, I checked in by giving my name (and later learned if I gave a phone number, I could actually leave the store and get called when my turn was up). There were at least four staff members calling names and helping them while another person was getting people signed in. I eventually had Val call my name, and I explained what I was looking to do. She understood what I needed. She had me measure my feet using a MyFootBalance machine. It provided me my foot length, food width, arch height, static foot alignment, heel width and girth, arch length, ball width and girth, instep height and girth, ankle circumference, and forefoot height. Val gave me some thin socks to wear while I was in the store. Then, she brought out various pairs of shoes and walked me through trying them on with my orthotics. I learned that I should be considering a shoe size a half-size larger than what I thought I needed. That certainly made a huge difference! I got some good ideas of what I wanted to do moving forward, though the prices seemed quite a bit more than what they are online (similar to any physical store). Having started as a family business in 1983, the chain of stores has expanded to over 50 locations in 12 states coast to coast. We live 2 hours from a retail store, so I ordered a jacket on the Roadrunner website as a Father's Day gift for my husband. Ordered on June 10, received about 5 days later, left unopened until Father's Day, June 21. He tried on the jacket, too smalI, so I contacted customer support who told me a larger size was not available and emailed me a return shipping label. I returned the jacket to UPS in the original packaging and condition on June 23. On July 6, I contacted customer support to inquire about my refund. I had paid with a combination of VIP points and credit card. I was told I had been emailed a gift card(which I did not receive). I asked why I did not get a credit refund on my card for the portion that had been charged to my card, to my shock I was told the jacket was returned in "charitable donation" condition and not eligible for a refund to my credit card. It was less than 2 weeks from the day I placed the order to the day I returned the jacket. We are in Arizona, in mid June, not exactly jacket weather! I have PAID for a VIP membership since 2019, you would think common sense would dictate that maybe their receiving department made an error in tagging the jacket as used, rather than assuming I was lying about the condition of the jacket. I was only asking for the original $40 charged to be refunded back to my credit card. Then to make a bad situation worse, conveniently (for Roadrunner Sports) they had the correct email to get the jacket back, but not the correct email for me to get a refund gift card. So now I have no jacket and not even a gift card. Never again will I do business with a company who gladly took my money for 6 years of VIP membership and assumed I was trying to scam them out of $40 by returning a used jacket. read more

However, when I visited the store yesterday 6/13 to purchase new trail running shoes, I was told that I was not allowed to try on any shoes unless I participated in the elite fitting system. I visited this next to wholefood store because of all the great reviews and TV ads saying they could help correct walking or running issues. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. The salesperson didn't give much advice -- he just inserted the shoe insoles and then quickly brought out a bunch of shoes without explaining how to choose the right pair or what would best fit my needs. His focus seemed more on watching the front door and trying to grab the next customer than on helping me. I understand sales commissions might be important, but I noticed other customers receiving much more attentive service while I was rushed through in-and-out with three customers at once. I still ended up buying a pair of shoes for over $300, but honestly, it felt no different from shopping at REI or a big sporting goods store. The charge amount was $49.99. That happens to be the same amount Road Runner charges for their membership cost. I didn't sign up or consent to anything. I went to the store a week ago to return a pair of shoes ( never worn) They were a half size too large and I just needed a size down. There were approximately six people in the store, with maybe four employees. Once I got on the list to be seen, it took 45 minutes to get the shoe returned while the return was getting made, I was recharged the $10 shipping fee which I really don't think is fair for a $250 shoe. My whole family has foot or ankle issues and getting custom insoles has helped a ton! Our son has shin spints and my hubby and I have plantar faciatis. The foot consultation and analysis in super interesting and helpful that they do here. I took my daughter yesterday to get fitted for insoles and shoes due to having tendonitis and her arches are so high. Insoles and supportive running shoes will help her out so much. Wow! I've never been walked away from and ignored in a store before. I guess there is always a first. First, let me explain why I have not been a member for quite some time. I honestly do not find any benefit in it. I have been a VIP member in the past when I used to buy my kids shoes. I've done the whole member routine. I've purchased insoles with the foot finder treadmill. But now, I only purchase two pairs of running sneakers a year. I run 16 miles weekly, and my shoes have lasted six months. There is no benefit from the 10% discount offered by purchasing a $49.95 membership. Today, I was treated differently. The first thing the gentlemen asked me was if I was a VIP member. I told him I was not. I told him I was interested in trying the Ghost Max 2. I had never worn Brooks before and was interested in the teal color. Well, I guess they do not stock all the colors. He proceeded to tell me that if I joined the VIP club, I could have my shoes delivered in four days. I told him I wasn't interested in that, and I could order them online, have them delivered for free shipping in four days, and not spend an extra $49.95 if I did not like the gray they had in stock. He said, "Let's get you checked in, and somebody will help you." He walked away from me. Two other employees were putting shoes away when two others walked into the store. The employee who checked me in proceeded to help the woman, and one of the other employees helped the gentleman, and I was left ignored. As I sat there watching them help these different people, I put my shoes back on and walked out. So I think you're not vital to them if you aren't paying the VIP fee. It is a scam, and people want to wonder why so many brick-and-mortar stores are going out of business. People are more likely to purchase things online because customer appreciation and satisfaction no longer exists in this world. The sad reality is they do not realize that without the customer coming into the store, there will be no store. Maybe, I'm off base. I was polite and truthful. I did not disrespect him in anyway. At first, I thought perhaps I was having a bad day, but I felt ignored and punished for not being a VIP. I was with my husband and he didn't think it was right the way I was treated. Such a scam, thy recommend shoes that are very cushioned which my PT said were not right because they cradle your feet as opposed to allowing your feet to gain strength. At least I was able to return everything but the insoles which may be useful. They took my order and now I am told the Citron/Black color is "backordered". If you look on their website now, they do not even offer that color now. So what gives Road Runner Sports? Everyone was so kinda and polite including Miss Colete and Theo, great people but i finally seen after quite sometime every single worker i saw was helping three to four people at a time. They seemed so stressed and it seems EXTREMELY UNDERSTAFFED. The only reason i am putting one star is because i felt terrible for the employees they seem like the work to much. I've now had two positive experiences here in the past year. Both times there was a wait, but once I was assisted the associate was knowledgeable, helpful, and came out with shoes that were relevant to my needs. They explained the differences with all of the shoes that they brought out, and offered their thoughts and opinions as well. They weren't overly pushy with certain brands, or with joining their membership program. On my second visit, I only joined the program since it was at a discounted rate for the holidays and it ended up saving me money on my first purchase. The guy with the clipboard ended up grabbing the shoes for me, but he kept telling me he had to step away to check-in other people. I ended up just going to the counter to pay for the shoes he brought me. Seems like they really don't want you to browse without being assigned to some specific salesperson. I guess I really didn't get the concept. Also the kid who was getting the shoes for me was kind of a know-it-all, but seemed actually to just be spouting the manufacturer's marketing message.
