It's been crickets. I specifically chose RoadRunners to buy a new pair of running shoes because of their selection/expertise. I've been buying neutral shoes for 20 years as I'm a supinator (run on the outsides of my feet/ankles turn out). Years ago I brought my boyfriend to show him how they tested your gait, performance, etc. and he found the perfect pair of running shoes for him. I'd also been to Scottsdale's RR location last summer and had a stellar experience with a young man, newly hired, who introduced this longtime Brooks/Asics fan to the Saucony Ride 10. Why do I call this salesperson stellar? Because he listened to what I said I needed: I told him how much I could spend (up to @ $125) and he worked with me, to find a shoe that both met my requirements and stayed within budget. On a Monday afternoon, I trekked to the store from downtown Phoenix, to get my new running shoes. I walked into the store and met Levi: immediately friendly, fun and eager to get me outfitted. I told him how my foot had changed now that I had the dreaded "b word" (bunions) so I needed to change to a D width. I told him what brands/styles I wore, all shoes for a neutral gait. He assured me he would hook me up with a great pair of shoes. He then asked me questions, using Road Runners customized tool that measures customers' feet. He set me up on the treadmill, in which they videotape you as you run, to gauge a number of different factors, like gait, arch type, ankle flexibility, pressure points, etc. That helps them fit you with the best shoe for the right level of cushion, stability and support. We conversed for a good 20 minutes, as we went through all the steps. He asked me if I had orthotics/custom insoles for my shoes. "No I buy expensive running shoes so I don't have to buy orthotics." "Well they help your shoe fit better." "That's nice. How much are they?" "$75." "I'll be direct: I probably won't buy them." He looked surprised that I would say that, but that's how I roll. "I run my own NEW business and I'm still in the growth phase. Which means I know how much I want to spend. And that doesn't include orthotics." "Well you can try them." "Sure I can try them." I had NO idea of the multi-level process because he then proceeded to take a pair of these pristine orthotics & had me go through all the steps to get them to mold specifically to my feet. They are warmed up and you balance on one foot, while stepping on the other, and then lean this way and that way. Again, I had no idea the process was so involved. After that he proceeded to bring out the two models of shoes he thought would be my best fit, given my "testing." They give you five to six to choose from and he brought out two pairs, the most expensive versions of what I needed. He removed the shoe's regular insoles and put the custom orthotics in them. As I started to try them on, I asked him how much these shoes were: both pairs were over $150. We had just talked about what my investment would be: $125 and under. Buying orthotics would put my purchase at 200+. I pulled the orthotics out of shoes and told him I would not be buying them. Once I said I didn't want to buy them, Levi dropped me like a hot potato. He walked away while I tried the other pair on AND HE NEVER CAME TO CHECK ON ME THE REST OF THE TIME I WAS IN THE STORE. I waited in the shoe area to see if Levi would swing back by. He never did, not even a quick check in. Another salesperson who I flagged down, was "nice enough" to get two other pair of shoes for me, that I specifically asked for: Brooks Ghost 11 and Glycerin models, both in a 10D. I then noted which shoes fit the best. At that point, I no longer wanted to buy a pair of shoes from that store after being dumped by the eager beaver salesman who turned into a lamea** baby because I wasn't going to buy what he wanted to sell me. FYI: I can go on Ebay and RoadRunner often sells their floor models or I can find the same shoes on Zappos and not have to pay tax/shipping. Levi did not listen to me and then when I did not want to buy what he chose, he had the worst possible reaction: he left me, the customer, and treated me as if my money wasn't good enough to spend there. In conclusion: the customer service, which has been excellent, is now lacking and flatout rude. Someone needs to re-train this individual salesperson as he clearly doesn't understand that every customer has value and customer loyalty goes a long way. The reason I returned to this location was because of my previous POSITIVE experience with the salespeople, who cared enough to make sure I left the store with a fantastic pair of shoes that fit both my feet and my budget. read more

Bought a pair of shoes, spent $235 for a pair of Brooks Hyperion Elite 2. The bottoms of the shoes were shredded after a few months of very very low miles. Unfortunately, I was outside the window for returns. They didn't care or offer any solutions. In fact they said I need to be running on a hard surface and it was my fault. That would have been good to know when I was purchasing them, especially when they go through the fitting process. They are supposed to help find the right shoe for you. Went in for a new pair of shoes... I had an idea of what I wanted from online research Parker assisted me. Based on what I'm currently running and what I want to accomplish, he told me that he did not recommend the shoes I was after but referred to two other brands. He was polite and knowledgeable. He let me try on the pair I wanted as well as the ones he recommended. Having the treadmills available to really feel the shoes is outstanding btw. I quickly realized that Parker was right and the shoes I initially wanted would not do what I wanted to do and I chose a pair of Brooks that he suggested. After eying this location of RoadRunner Sports for some time now (since it was built), I decided I would go in today to check it out. It was Saturday afternoon around 3:00 and the place had plenty of customers buzzing around. The store is set up in a way that is easy to navigate - women's apparel to the left, women's shoes on the wall straight ahead, men's to the right, etc... it's always nice when you can go straight to what you are looking for when you go somewhere for the first time. I looked around a bit as I waited. I was greeted by a couple of busy salespeople before Elizabeth came over to see if I needed some help. By that time, I knew exactly what I wanted... Me: "I'd like to try on a pair of these Adidas Adistar Cushion" if you have them in a size 6. Elizabeth: "Sure - let me go see if we have them in your size" (she comes out with the pair I asked for) Me: "This is the next model of the pair I've been wearing, correct? (I show her my old pair)" Elizabeth: "Yes it is" Me: "Do you recommend these? Notice anything on the tread of my old ones that stands out?" Elizabeth: "Nope - they look fine to me; it's totally normal to ware out the lateral side of the heels when you run" Me: "OK - cool" I tried them on, ran around the store a bit, and decided to purchase them. Easy enough! The fact that they were on sale was a bonus... (I would hope that if someone came in not knowing what they wanted, they would get more help than I did.) I had to wait a bit at the register but as I was doing so, I noticed that this particular store has group runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:00pm and Saturdays at 6:15am - good to know! I also picked up a few race fliers for upcoming events (check out our events calendar for the info). I opted not to join the VIP club just yet, but it may make sense to do so if I continue to shop at RR. Stopped into this store for the first time to get some calf compression sleeves. I only stopped cause it was close to my job and I figured being a running store, they would help me figure out what kind to buy. I was greeted at the door and directed in the general direction. There was maybe 3 other customers in the store with at least 4 employees. Not once did someone come over in the 10 minutes I stood looking at compression sleeves to ask me if I needed help. Not even the ones standing 6 feet from me. I finally picked something and took it up to the counter where the open cashier who was too busy talking to his headset to help. When he was finally done, I asked what the return policy was and he told me that basically without being a VIP (paid) member, I couldn't return the items. So I said ok, never mind and walked out. This isn't even correct now that I looked at their return policy online. Never again. Awful, lazy customer service. read more

My husband and I had a marvelous shopping experience today. The person helping us, Josh, was terrific in every way. Extremely knowledgeable and helpful. He didn't rush us one bit, even though we eventually found out that he was working late. He listened to my husband's "druthers" about walking shoes, then he found several brands/styles that he thought would work, explaining every step of the way why he thought that the shoe would be suitable. Funny story: I explained to him why I didn't like a pair of walking shoes that I had purchased a year ago at a different store. He has such an extensive knowledge of different shoe styles that he knew exactly what style they were, based only on the small amount of info that I'd provided him with, which was the fact that they caused my foot to supinate (roll outwards). read more

I stopped at Road runner after work for what I thought would be a quick and easy task of buying new tennis shoes. Instead, I met Calvin, a fit expert and he did a very thorough analysis of what type of shoe is best for me. He asked my purpose for the shoes, level of activity, then did a series of tests to determine my stride as well as proper shoe size. He also created custom inserts molded specifically for my foot. He then brought out several styles of shoes and had me try them on. I had never had such a thorough shoe fitting in my life! I went to Roadrunner on Saturday to get new shoes and had a great experience! Ryan was extremely helpful and I felt very knowledgeable about what I was buying by the time I was checking out. I made my first purchase a few months ago. no complaints. the store was pretty quiet and I was served well. I was talked into signing up for a trial membership, with the caveat that I could cancel within three months. I was not informed how much it would be per year, and when I I looked that up later, decided I don't shop here often enough to warrant the expense. I must say this was my first time at this store and my first time getting heated insoles. Brent the sales associate at the store was so very helpful. He assisted me right away. Checked my gate, gave me proper recommendations for my planter Fasciitis issues. I ended up buying insoles, a road & trail sneakers. As well as recommended socks that are sweat absorbent, and a few more other things. Brent was so kind, he offered me a membership and walked my bags to my car. What a delightful place to shop for athletic shoes! Everyone in this store goes out of their way to be friendly and helpful! They provide a 3D scan of your feet and from that, determine the optimal shoes, based on the architecture of your feet and your intended purpose and use. They also offer custom-fitted insoles, which though somewhat expensive, insure a custom fit. Now, think about it, if you're on your feet all day, running at an event, or just chillin', a few dollars more over the life of the shoes is definitely worth the comfort and structural benefits for your body. My wife and I worked with Calvin, who is genuine and went far and above to make sure we had a proper fit. He made a lot of positive suggestions to help us make the best decisions for our needs. I'm so done with my husband buying shoes and just settling for what felt OK. He always complains about his shoes "not feeling the same anymore". UGH! I am loyal to Road Runner Sports in Concord and knew there had to be one here in Scottsdale. (Yelp!) After a short wait, Alday took him through the evaluation of him walking on the treadmill to check placement and "wobble" of ankles and then a scan of his feet. To get the full benefit - I also got the custom insoles. Turns out he's does NOT have wide feet, barely any arch, wobbles on the right and is a size 12 - not 11.5. He tried on 4 pairs of shoes and he remarked how much more support and cushion he felt. :) We proceeded to walk through the shopping mall, went out to grab pizza and throughout it all - not one complaint. Later that night he mentioned that one of his friends said that his Dr recommended Hokas because he was having lower back and knee pain. Yep - he called him and said," You're not gonna believe this, but I just got a pair of Hokas today and you need to go get some". I went in hoping to find a good pair of running shoes to help with some pains I was having. We were greeted right when we walked in and directed to a gentleman who began the fitting process. He never asked anything about how much I was running, what type of running I was doing, or more about the pains when I brought it up. I was immediately put on a scanner and was fitted for custom inserts without any explanation. The man gave me 3 shoe options and said they were my only options. I ended up purchasing the shoes and the inserts (to which he never asked if I wanted them or told me the price). I looked at the receipt after and the inserts were $100, totally not worth it when I could find cheaper ones elsewhere. The man who helped me was very kind but I did not feel like the help, knowledge, or overall customer service was the best. They just want to sell you on their products. read more

After 4 years it was time to replace a couple of pairs of stability walking sneakers. Had previously purchased at this location. I visited here around 11:30 this morning and was greeted and asked a slew of questions which after a moment I understood they were trying to offer a focused service. When I said I just wanted to purchase new sneakers I was told someone could not be with me for 20-25 minutes and went to look on my own. When I found something I liked I was told I couldn't be helped until my name was called. NO I am moat my doctors office, I just wanted to purchase what I wanted without waiting for another 15-20 minutes. Maybe this works for others but not for me. read more

July 21, 2023 was at least my 3rd trip to Roadrunner Sports and I was finally served with a very harming young person, Ryan H., who measured my feet, molded new insoles and got me the correct shoes. I have 2 different sized feet and I need to accommodate my right foot. Ryan is the only person at the store who went through all of the effort to get me the correct shoes.
