I went to Road Runner Sports today to do a return. I usually shop at the Campbell location, and my experiences there have always been great, so I was surprised by how different my visit to the Sunnyvale location felt. My boyfriend and I came in to return a pair of shoes, but we were apparently confused about the return/exchange policy--or perhaps it wasn't explained clearly when we originally purchased them. We were under the impression that returns and exchanges could be made within 90 days of purchase. When we arrived, we were told that our shoes could only be exchanged, not returned. That wasn't the issue. Once the policy was explained, we understood it. What made the experience frustrating was the attitude we received from multiple employees. The staff kept repeating the policy over and over, and it started to feel less like they were helping us understand and more like they were talking down to us. One sales associate, Vlad, was especially condescending. He compared our situation to buying a used car, driving it around, scratching it up, and then expecting a full refund. He repeatedly pointed out scuffs on the shoes, even after we acknowledged and understood the policy. The comparison felt unnecessary, and his tone came across as rude rather than helpful. Later, after Vlad went on break, we were assisted by Chris at the register. He was able to process the exchange onto a gift card, which we appreciated, but he also seemed to be in a bad mood and wasn't particularly friendly. Maybe it was just an off day for the staff, but the overall customer service at this location was disappointing. If you have the option, I'd recommend going to the Campbell location instead. I've consistently had much better experiences there. read more

I have to be honest. I've never really gotten proper help in a shoe store until I walked into Road Runner Sports. Conner and Christopher completely changed my expectations of what that experience can be. As a business owner, I recognize and appreciate excellent customer service, and these two went above and beyond. They were patient, knowledgeable, and never once made me feel rushed. I got my feet scanned to find the best fit, and when I had my pick of brand, Conner recommended a different one. I trusted him, and wow, am I glad I did. The comfort and support are like nothing I've felt before, which is everything when you're standing 10 to 12 hours a day. This is the kind of store where people actually listen and care about finding you the right shoe, not just making a sale. My podiatrist said I needed different running shoes so I've looked at New Balance (my previous supplier of shoes), REI and a couple of other stores. All of the sales people at these have been great at trying to help, but Road Runner had a broader selection to choose from. The sales guy, Isaac, listened to my requirements, used their new measuring machine and then came out with 3 or 4 that he thought would work. Best place to buy running shoes! The membership exchange policy and discounts are awesome especially if you go through a few pairs a year like my son does. The staff are helpful and knowledgeable, and the selection of shoes is excellent. It can get busy on weekends, so you may have to wait a bit to be helped, but it's worth it for the service and value. read more

I'm a running gear geek, and this place is great. Big selection of running shoes, plus a decent amount of runner-centric clothing and odds and ends like - for lack of a better term - "injury treatment toys." When I visited recently, it had been a couple years and they'd added some new doohickeys. They used to have a machine that measured you for custom insoles and now they have a machine that just measures your feet for size. Reminder! Their business model seems to rely getting customers to sign up for an annual subscription that gets you store discounts - and they will pester you to sign up for it. Do the math. If you're buying multiple pairs of shoes per year plus some clothing it pencils and otherwise it really doesn't. read more

Went to Road Runner's twice recently and was extremely pleased with my experience! Staff is very attentive and knowledgeable. Kevin helped both my parents find their perfect fit and was able to find their shoes and answer all their questions. Specifically for my mom, they were able to talk through her needs, and they settled on getting insoles as she uses different shoes for her dance classes. Next, Suzette helped me go through the fit process for the first time and explained every step of the process and provided me with the shoes that were recommended and shoes that I was eyeing. Ok .. this place is like no other . The service here is awesome . I'm a sneaker head . So sneakers are very important to me . However I had some blister issues . They did an assessment on my foot and ankle. Next thing you know, they got some shoes right in front of me. The sales man even had my inner soles molded to my feet ?? Came in and was immediately greeted and asked what I was in for. I was looking for a pair of walking shoes and to get fitted and only had to wait about a minute for someone to come out and help me. Cesar was the associate and I told him I was looking for a pair of walking shoes because the Nike's I got weren't doing the job. I didn't know that there was so much that goes into getting you the right shoe fit. He had me walk on a treadmill for about 15 seconds, then took some scans of my feet. I have been wearing bigger sizes to compensate for my feet and have been wearing 2 sizes too big for quite some time. Turns out I am a 12 and these shoes were SO comfortable. He brought out 4 pairs for me to try and all were amazing. I ended up with a pair of Brooks and a pair of socks. Signed up for their membership for $20 bucks and pretty much saved that on my purchase, so it paid for itself. Also earned $30 credit with the rewards program, which I'm sure I will come back to use at some point, just so I have 2 pairs of walking shoes and can rotate. My favorite hiking shoes are worn out and I have 4 or 5 pairs of Nike running shoes that I rotate around for hiking -- but it just doesn't quite feel like my favorite pair. Since I'm about to retire my favorite hiking shoes, I figured it was time to get some really good quality ones. I'm about to do two separate 12 mile hikes (not on the same day of course) and need to be sure I have the right shoes to see me through both quests. The reason why I chose Road Runner Sports was because they have a fitting system that measures your fitting preferences, cushioning, foot alignment, foot width, foot length -- basically, an entire measurement of your feet to pair you with the most comfortable shoes. It's assessed visually and through technology so the associate will walk you through the whole measuring process. Once the measurements are done, the computer automatically provides recommendations of the types of shoes to try on. In my case, my results came out "neutral" which means I don't need any specialized shoes for more stability, etc. Ian who is the nice young man who walked me through the whole session brought out about 10 different pairs for me to try on. He was very knowledgeable and offered great suggestions. While these guys carry quite a few brands, I ended up choosing to go with Brooks. It is on the more pricey side but the quality seems more durable and sturdy for strenuous walking. I couldn't decided between the navy blue and the grey with pink so I picked up both. I even became a member so I could receive small discounts and free shipping for online orders. Absolutely enjoyed my experience with these guys. Now, off to my first 24 miles with one of my new pairs of B's. read more

(They close at7!) urgently looking for shoes for my training tomorrow at 5am, the shoes I ordered last week did not arrive on time and when I got home today I had to rush to buy some. We walked in and they were so busy!! I was just waiting patiently and Israel was helping 2 people and still acknowledged me and then helped us shortly after. My bf and I came in to get a foot scan and it was a very informative session. Claudia was super friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. She answered all our questions and explained the different shoe brands. She even bought a total of 8 pairs of shoes for both of us to try. It took us a while to make a decision but after a few jumps and jogs, my bf found his perfect pair of shoes. Claudia explained to me they don't carry size 5 or 5.5 in store or online but she still brought out the size 6 shoes for me to check out the style and comfort. I did find a pair I really liked but a little sad I couldn't purchase it on the spot but she informed me I can go on the shoe brand website to purchase my small shoe size. Just a little disappointed even their website doesn't carry the size 5/5.5 shoe I wanted (I'm a size 5 but wanted to at least try these two sizes to see which one is a better fit since size 6 was definitely too big). Overall, good experience and definitely recommend coming here to get a foot scan and learn about your feet and shoes! I was super excited to come here since I've been running for over 10 years. I did the fitment exam and was recommended stability shoes, so I tried on about 10 pairs of shoes that day. I bought the Asics Gt2000 in a 8.5 which is 1 full size larger than my regular 7.5 in women's due to recommendation that feet gets swollen while running. I ran on the treadmill with it and felt great. The next day when I ran with them, I started feeling immense pain in my right foot around the big toe area within 15 minutes and I've been in so much pain since then. It's been over two weeks and I still can't run at all due to the pain. I've never had foot pain before, so I'm extremely upset I have to go through this since I've been training for my marathon coming up in May and this is setting me back so much!! I can't even run at all! I had to go to the chiropractor due to this and I'm still limping and in pain. I wish I never went here and I wish I never bought these shoes. I can't even go to the store to return them, because I can barely walk. I messaged customer service and told them about my experience and guess what? NO RESPONSE. I feel like they don't care or don't want to deal with this. John and another younger guy there helped me and were kind and patient. The only star I would give is to them. I just wish Road Runner knew to add, "check toe restriction," of some sort as part of the fitment test, if this had been implemented, I would never be in this awful position. Toe pain is some of the most underrated injuries of all time and has put professional athletes out of their profession due to this. RR, Please take this seriously. read more
