Grilled chicken/mushroom/Swiss cheese on jalapeño bun with sweet potato fries

Always delicious! A little hole in the wall, bit great food and service.. have been several times traveling through Bastrop. Today was extraordinary! We neither one could eat it all and got to go boxes for 1/2 of it'

Sunday road trip from Houston to Roadhouse for my favorite black bean burger, worth the drive! Great service!

Hadn't been to Roadhouse in a while and decided to stop by on a Sunday for lunch. Got there around 11:30, before it got too busy luckily. Since they have expanded and use the space next door there is now much more inside seating. Burgers are still 10/10- always flavorful, juicy and cooked just right. The sourdough bun is what makes it I always get the sweet potato fries because they are crispy and perfectly salted and worth the extra $1.50 upcharge. Staff are friendly and service was quick, especially for the day/hour. I'll be adding Roadhouse back into my Bastrop restaurant rotations.

There's a lot of buzz about this spot--and after finally checking it out, I can confidently say the hype is real. The menu is packed with incredible options, from comfort food favorites to creative dishes you don't always see in a small-town restaurant. The service was just as impressive--friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. If you're passing through Bastrop, this place is definitely worth the stop.

Veggie sandwich. Sweet potato fries are great!

The good and the not so great. Burgers are an A+ every time. Nice grilled flavor and usually perfectly cooked. The service is super friendly but anything but quick. I have been here twice and waited over an hour for food both times. If you are not in a hurry and want a "leisurely" lunch then this is your spot. It is rustic and quirky and I love that. Very much a Texas vibe. This would be a four 1/2 star for me if the food came out in a more timely manner.

Roadhouse was suggested as a lunch option while out and around. Roadhouse was voted as having one of the best burgers in Texas. I decided to go basic and get their bacon cheeseburger. The burger was good-the fries were crispy well done. I went back for lunch with a former co-worker and decided to get the the best burger: their jalapeno cream cheese burger. I chose to get the grilled jalapenos and it was a good mix with the slab of cream cheese and a giant pile of fries. Both times, the burger patty was large, well-seasoned and tasty. I could see why it was voted one of the best burgers. Every visit, service has been friendly and quick. My second visit I got a lot of refills. A LOT. Each time my server asked if I wanted a refill and at the end when I tabulated how many glasses of Coke I had (6) passed 0 judgement and even gave me a to-go cup. This is the other go-to whenever I come to Bastrop, the first being Buc-ee's of course.

A great Texas burger. Wonderful service! The western burger with fresh jalapeños is perfection (no pickles). (Tastes like the goodnight good cause at Hopdoddy) Sweet potato fries nice and crispy. Definitely worth the wait and extra time on the way back to Houston. A must road stop .

I ordered a sandwich and the bread was fresh and not too thick. The vegetables were crisp. I also ordered nachos, which I could not stop raving about! The beans were tender, the cheese was oozing and the chips were crunchy.

3.5 We stopped here after hiking at the nearby state park. We were seated pretty quickly and got our drink order soon after. It took a while to get our food and my friend's order wasn't what they requested. However, I took the extra veggies. Now one thing for gluten-free people: their buns are not gluten-free, and they didn't even seem to be sourdough. My friend liked theirs but I could not risk eating a super springy bun. Bummer. The rest was good though. I never did get any iced tea refills. It took a bit to get the check paid but not horrible.

I ordered the avocado chicken dinner no mushrooms. Absolutely delicious. The touch of avocado and the sauce are great together. The chicken was nice and juicy. Great fries. The service was great. Busy for a rainy Sunday evening. This is a little wooden house like. They also a a patio if you want to sit outside. I recommend

I was with a large party and we were seated on an outdoor deck area that overlooks a lovely greenbelt and the Colorado river. I was uncertain about outdoor seating in June, but they had lots of fans that dispense a light mist to help cool the area. The drinks were excellent, I had a margarita on the rocks with tajin rim and it was tasty and refreshing. The food was fabulous! I highly recommend the meatballs. Everyone in our party could not get enough of them. I will be back to try the wings, they looked delish. Misty was our server and I am still in awe over her. She went out of her way to make sure everyone in our (very large) party was taken care of. There were dozens of us and I'm not even sure how she managed to do it but I realized afterwards, I never waited long for anything. Misty was always nearby and so kind and attentive. Im not sure how she took care of so many people at once, it was amazing, honestly. Ive never seen such efficiency and I don't know how she did it. I hope I'm lucky enough to see her again when I go back to sample those wings!

We asked for some tips on what to drink and eat and she nailed it!!! The watermelon vodka and the chips with dip "cream cheese veggies " yum!!! We also ordered the meatball sub, the wings and the beer which ch they make was beyond our expectations!!! It was hit but the fans and shade made it better! The only issue were flies didn't let us enjoy, you should get the equipment some restaurants have on walls to attract the flies. The desserts were yummy too, the server said they are gramma made so yesss definitely took some home. Red velvet cheesecake and cobbler!!! Beautiful view to go walk after you eat! Definitely a nice place for dates, friends and family!!!

That's fine because it allowed us a bit of time to check out downtown Bastrop. Once seated, service was American cafe classic. Very friendly and full of memorabilia on the walls and decore. The evening cleaning crew left us an upside down dead . . . Yup, you guessed it. We told the server, they might want to clean it up before seating the next guest at that table. There are restaurants you try once because they're trendy... and then there are places like Paw-Paw's -- the kind that become part of your family's story over time. From the fried deviled eggs, to the seafood platters, to the chicken tenders, to the genuinely wonderful staff, there just isn't a better spot for this kind of old-school comfort food experience. And the staff? Always SO friendly and welcoming. Every single time we come in, it feels less like "customer service" and more like old friends excited you finally stopped by so they can catch up with you awhile. That kind of warmth cannot be faked, and it makes such a difference. Now let's discuss these fried deviled eggs. Because respectfully... who allowed them to be this good? You think deviled eggs have reached their final form and then Paw-Paw's comes in like, "Hold my beer." Crispy, crunchy, creamy, flavorful perfection. We start most meals with them because not ordering them would simply be poor decision making at this point. I usually get the chicken tender basket and LISTEN -- these aren't sad little freezer tenders pretending to be a meal. These tenders are literally as big as my hand. Juicy, tender, flavorful, cooked perfectly every time. My adult kids are obsessed with the seafood platter: three pieces of fried catfish and three jumbo fried shrimp with fries, pinto beans, slaw, hushpuppies, and homemade tartar or cocktail sauce. And when I say the catfish tastes CLEAN, my fellow seafood people will understand exactly what I mean. No muddy taste, no weirdness -- just fresh, crispy, perfectly fried fish done right. And the portions? Paw-Paw did NOT come to play. Nobody is leaving hungry unless that was a personal choice. What I love most, though, is the feeling of the place. The small-town care. The heart that clearly goes into the food. The old-school comfort vibe that feels increasingly rare these days. Places like this matter. And Paw-Paw's is absolutely one of them.
