Delivery order was quick and efficient, they had a good selection on the sandwich plate, people really liked the chocolate chip covered cannolis (they were gone before I could grab one), and the eggplant parm was ok, but not cheesy enough and was a bit dry. Dessert tray also had little cuts of Italian rainbow cookie w/ jelly (ok). The peppers on the tray were good, juicy and spicy. The mozzarella ball was a nice touch on top of the Italian sandwich (though I'd prefer different cheese), and I could've used some olive oil and vinegar on the sandwich. read more

Hit or miss. Lately, not so good. Ordered an eggplant vodka sauce parm a few weeks ago and there was a piece of meat in it. They did bring a new one and was just okay. Not much sauce. Gave another try today. Disgusting - cheese was not melted. I don't even know what kind of cheese was on it. Took it apart to get the cheese off. read more

I ordered the Italian Stallion which is spicy sopressata, capicola and provolone. Topped with arugula, cherry peppers and olive oil built upon perfectly crusty Italian bread. OMG! It was absolutely amazing. I also ordered the chicken cutlet pesto sandwich. Moist and tender golden chicken cutlets topped with fresh home made mozzarella, pesto, and sun dried peppers. Incredible! Well I found a new lunch option while working in the office! Stopped in at Mama Rao's yesterday for the first time and thought it was awesome. So many choices! I ordered the sausage and peppers sandwich to go. The bread slightly toasted , filled with sausage and orange and yellow peppers tasted great! I'm already thinking of what I'm ordering next time. There are tables inside for dining, but on a beautiful day like yesterday, Lurker Park is right up the street and the option of sitting outdoors eating that sandwich was a good choice! read more

Most of their business is take-out and catering with a few tables set opposite the service counter for indoor dining. This review is about lunch, Mama Rao's has a steady flow of customers but lines move quickly. They know their business and execure it efficiently. I ordered the "Chef Angela" 7'' sub ($10.99) which consisted of imported Mortadella, provolone, hot cherry peppers, lettuce & tomato with a vinaigrette. It was delicious. They have a 12" ($13.99) "Chef Angela" but even though I'm 6'1" and 210 lbs, the 7" is enough for me. They do not skip on the ingredients including the meat and quality cheeses. The bread here is a star. It is homemade and baked daily. It has a crunch on the outside and a lightness inside. This place started out very well, the owner being a sweetheart but since that time I have seen the portions reduced and the prices increased. I had bought a small meatball no bread that cost me nearly 5 dollars then on another day I had attempted to buy two small pieces of chicken with a small amount of brócoli. To my surprised o was charged nearly $20 dollars. With a little more I could had gotten a steak elsewhere. Then I discovered that the food was being sold by weight which makes no sense and way too much for a small lunch plate. There are better options in town that are better like Vespucci's lunch special and it won't cost nearly as much and at least you get a decent portion. I'll take my business elsewhere where I pay for the food that not weighted. read more

Been going to MRK now for about a year and it just gets better every time. They now bake their bread fresh daily, in-house using a special steam oven and it is amazing and the best around (yes I said that!). I recently had a sandwich with still warm bread from the oven and it was the best sandwich I have ever had in NJ! If you are looking for something lighter than a sandwich or pasta the eggplant Fresca roll-ups are the way to go. Leave room for dessert because the fresh filled cannoli are the best in town! There are lots of Italian deli competitors in a 10 mile radius of MRK and I drive by them all to eat here. The new kid on the block is now the gold standard of Italian food. read more

Don't listen to the negatives about price. Remember you get what you pay for. Had the chicken parm today, 2 rice balls, and they were EXCELLENT! Not going to say they were good, it reminded me of good old italian food. So calling the food excellent or whatever, is not enough credit. Reminded me on how italian food should be tasting. Sal's prices are lower then everyone else there. Chicken parm $10, $15 a diners, 12 elsewhere! His food is basically your looking right at it, and it looks good! It was hard to find because it was hidden in the corner right next to the Amblience service, but was worth the time. Sals and the crew is done to earth and treats people right. After passing by the new place e that used to be Angelo's, I decided to stop. I ordered the hot Ro "ASS" T Beef "How ya doin.." with melted mozzarella and gravy . I also ordered a Sicilian rice ball, Mac n cheese ball, autumn ball and another I can't remember. Those I have not eaten yet and will update my review when I taste them. After I ordered, it took awhile to get my order. The chef brought my order out but it jus sat on the counter. I ended up bagging it myself. Of course, after I ordered they took my money right away. The roast beef and mozzarella with gravy was just ok. There was not enough roast beef on the sandwich. The roast beef was rare, like I like it but it was soaked in gravy and not enough roast beef. There are better choices in town that offer a better sandwich that this place. I will not be back unless the various balls are delicious. read more

Have gone here for all kinds of food and never disappointed. Their Italian Egg Rolls are awesome and really unique, as is their Prosciutto Bread and Pepperoni Bread. Have had a hard time finding good Italian sausage since Espositos closed in EH, but their sausage is top notch, especially on a grill. Have used them for catering of 2 parties as well, and the food, flexibility and service have all been great. It's not easy to get large trays of food for 25+ people to taste so great, but even in large quantities - their pastas (chicken, cavatelli and broccoli was a huge hit), salads, and sides have all had so much flavor and are great reheated even a few days later. Their fresh mozzarella is the best around in my opinion and the fresh "Brooklyn" bread they sell daily is fantastic.
