I paid for packing and moving services and am very happy with the service I received. First, I do want to say that when I had initially reached out to the company, my contact was Ana, but when I called or emailed questions and to follow up, I never received a response from her. When I called the customer service main line, however, I was set up with a new contact person, Joe, who was very helpful and responsive any time I called. I also appreciated that they reached out a few days before the move to confirm everything with me, which I would've wanted to do if they hadn't. It's these little details that count a lot with me. Regarding the day of the move, my main contact was Walter. He helped me make a move from Brooklyn to Manhattan. They packed up all my things for me as promised (I basically didn't do anything and felt super awkward about it), and did so very efficiently. Walter was also very friendly and thoughtful. Due to the pandemic, he had brought hand sanitizer and masks for me. Upon arriving, they were again very efficient at getting my things where they needed to be. Although I hadn't paid for any disassembling, reassembling, or unpacking services, they were also kind enough to insist they help me put my bed frame back together. The apartment we moved from had an odd entryway which made our couch tough to take out of there. We had no response from the customer service for about a week right before our delivery window, and we didn't get any approx shortened delivery window even after 2 weeks of the 3-week delivery window have passed. They had given us a very competitive price with services that were beyond excellence. I was put in touch with Frank, Ben & Ivan. They had coordinated the entire move very well. There were some delays at the delivery end in the west coast, I would think it could be due to COVID-19 pandemics. Things were packed well so there were min damages to our stuff. The movers abandoned my couch on an NYC sidewalk. I paid $500 extra in advance for the movers to disassemble and reassemble my couch because my new building has narrow doorways. When the movers arrived on Saturday, they said they couldn't disassemble the couch, and they would call a carpenter while they were driving into NYC to meet us at the drop-off location. When they arrived, they moved my boxes into the apartment, then finally decided to call the carpenter, but they told me that he might take 2 hrs to arrive. They left the couch on the sidewalk and took off, leaving one young guy behind to stay with the couch until the carpenter arrived. No carpenter ever showed up and no one from Roadway ever contacted us. After 6 hours, I had to get others to move the couch. Roadway doesn't have customer service after 3 on Saturday (or at all on Sunday) so there was no one to help us. Even the kid they left behind to wait with the couch got no updates, except one text to say the carpenter would be 30 min late. Days later, no one from Roadway has reached out to make sure the situation was resolved. Best case scenario, this business is shockingly incompetent and highly disorganized. Worst case scenario, this is a scam. Either way, don't waste your money. read more

I figured since I had a great experience, I'll try them again, so called them first and got a very competitive price (shopped around to all the other movers in the area - only a couple hundred more for all my extra furniture) - so booked them hassle free in 15 minutes on the phone. great customer service, efficient and clearly know what they're doing now moving day - huge snowstorm, visibility of basically nothing and a sheet of horizontal snow outside my window. they called once before they were 30m out, brought a crew of 8 people and moved out an entire 2br (couch, tables, bedroom, tv's, chairs, 50 gorilla boxes) without blinking. they loaded everything up in about 1.5hr - carefully packing and wrapping every piece. even small details, which I appreciate - like taping each end of custom glass I made for a coffee table so the cushion pads wouldn't fall off in the move! they were professional, clean, efficient - no hidden costs, no hassle whatsoever. It's also rare to move long-distance and have one company handle every aspect, which truly does pay off in the end. ---------------- We hired Roadway for our cross country move and they seemed fantastic. We had a large moving budget to work with and opted for them to wrap and pack everything for the move. Their reputation was too hard to pass up and winding down life before a move is hectic. The experience was generally great - the walkthrough was quick, arrangements were easy, and the moving crew was early. We even had to make some late adjustments to the pickup date and they were accommodating. Their packing skills are unreal! The problem comes with the outcome of the move. We are missing some items, even though "everything" was scanned at our destination. Reaching out to Roadway to discuss this was not productive. Several voicemails were left over a generous amount of time and they were not returned. When I finally called and mentioned to the rep that it had been several weeks of failed attempts, I was immediately connected with someone. A quick email convo followed that call and then nothing, again. Somehow we're missing several items - it seems a box assembled at the end was not labeled or scanned. Luckily it isn't anything major, mostly items that can be replaced. No moving experience seems to be perfect, and nothing seems broken or mishandled. Avi Ohana, their Onsite Relocation Consultant, was professional, punctual and accurate with the flat rate quoted, the manpower required and the job timing estimated. The crew was friendly and meticulous with their care of our items. The reassembly of our furniture upon arrival at our new home was prompt and precise. We recently relocated again -- within Long Island City -- and we went with another company who provided us with a much lower quote this go-around. Upon receipt of our decision, Avi, of course, was the epitome of professionalism and grace. "I am so sorry to hear that! But I understand where you are coming from, and I certainly wish you a successful move and lots of joy and happiness in your new place," he wrote in response. He also offered his "pro tips." Go over my list and their list and make sure it's apple-to-apple, so you have no surprises, he said. Read the company's bad reviews, not the good ones; it will tell you if there is a pattern that you may or may not tolerate during the move, he said. Well, you get what you pay for, and I would name-drop in anger, but the company we used recently reached out to rectify all the grievances from our last move. As I sit here on my sofa thinking about the 4 wardrobe boxes, 25 medium to large to extra-large boxes, queen-sized bed, 2 TVs and some other furniture that were all moved today from a third floor Harlem walk-up in under 3 hours - I am amazed, relieved, and ecstatic with the service that was provided by George and his team. Adrian kept trying to re-assure me everything would be fine but I'll admit, at times things seemed a bit disjointed. Here are a few takeaways for improvement: 1. Fix the booking system, after receiving a revised contract it changed my move from a one day move to two which was not accurate and placed me in a panic. 2. When I first submitted an online request for a quote a week went by and I had to call to follow-up. I almost forgot I was waiting for a response. 3. I didn't receive a confirmation call 24-48 hrs before my move which made me anxious as I was told I would be getting a call. I'll admit that I might have been on edge after reading the reviews for other moving companies, I was scared... All in all, I paid a little more to contract Roadway Moving but at the end of the day, I had a peace of mind. My quote was my quote! The team was punctual ( they called me 15 mins early to let me know they were there), professional and extremely cordial. Everything started off well enough. The phone rep was very pleasant and easy to deal with. He set up a walk through for the following week to get a better look at what we had, and promised to give us a firm price on the move. We had a 1 hour time frame set for the agent to arrive. Towards the end of the time frame we got a call that they were stuck in traffic in Manhattan. Seeing as they could not make it on time, we rescheduled for another day the following week. The second time around, the agent showed up punctually and did a great job with the estimate. She was pleasant and the process was very fast. She was also quite informative about the ins and outs of the move. A day later I got a written quote for appx. $8000. The document said the offer/quote was good for 72 hours. I felt the price was a bit high compared to other companies, but I still wanted to see if we could figure something out. So over the course of the next 2 days we went back and forth and tried to get to a better price point. Finally on the 3rd day, while waiting for a reply, I get an email saying they could do the move but not provide the storage. At this point, I was a bit upset having wasted so much time with them on the estimate/walk thru and price negotiation. If they couldn't provide storage or weren't sure if they could, why not disclose that upfront or on any of the days we were talking about prices? And what about the detailed offer they sent me which included storage? Suddenly no good? So lame. Despite this setback, I was actually still considering using them for a move and providing my own local storage. However, when I asked a follow up question about t what kind of facilities they would require in terms of size and amenities (elevator, drive up, etc), I never got a reply. In the end, I though the staff we dealt with were nice enough. But the reality is that Roadway wasted my time when I didn't have a lot of time to waste. They misled me about the services they offer and failed to answer simple emails or try to help figure things out when they reneged on their offer to move us. I would not recommend Roadway. A year ago I moved from NYC to Montreal/QC. Roadway took care of everything for us. They packed and organized all my furniture really well, they took care of the papers I needed for this out of country move, and provided storage for a month, until we got a place in Montreal. It was a really smooth process, the costumer service and staff was polite and professional. The guys who came to pack and load the container were really efficient and had a good attitude. I cannot say enough good words about this gang of movers. Avi Ohana was the lead we were assigned, he came, took the inventory gave a quote. We had to sell our place and purchase the new one within a day of each other, and the move was quoted and dated/timed as such. Then reality hit: the buyers changed the date, the sellers changed their date everything changed and Avi accommodated it all. Made changes on the quote, flexed the timeline, no fees, no penalties - we did our part and stayed communicative and Avi was beyond responsive. He emailed, called, made sure all was well. We signed up for "wrapping and boxing" package as well and that was the best decision ever. The crew called the day before, confirmed the appointment. They called when they were 5 minutes away. They were courteous, professional, hard working and knew what they were doing. After the walk through of "this goes, this goes, this stays" it took them 2 hours to box a 1,400 sq/ft 2 + 2. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen, living room, books (I have a lot of books) TV, dining table, kitchen table... I mean these guys were brilliant. Everything packed neatly and safely. No amount of packing paper and packaging tape was spared. Their boxes are strong and well made. The "wardrobe boxes" are awesome. They labeled everything correctly. I mean, it was a delight watching these guys work. I got them a box of joe and a dozen donuts as a "people, please take a break" threat. They kept our stuff in the truck as long as we needed and they showed up at 4 PM upon our request to deliver them. We closed at 3PM, they started moving stuff in at 4 PM and they were done by 7 PM!!! Nothing broken, nothing lost, no boxes damaged, it was an immaculate job. I am serious when I say "I don't have enough good words about this gang of movers." Another box of joe and donuts to prevent from over-heating and that was it. Keywords: safe, clean, honest, trustworthy, no surprise charges, no surprises, hard working, fun, responsive... Everything that is the exact opposite of a "bad moving experience" is these peoples M.O. And during both moves the customer service called and asked how the team was doing, whether they were late or not, on time or not. After doing a ton of research on moving companies, I decided to go with Roadway Moving, and am happy to say, that I was very happy with them. Their service was very good. The movers called me 15 minutes before arriving, and arrived exactly on time. They moved the big furnitures very carefully out of the old house, and put all smaller items in huge cardboard boxes. They arrived at my new house before I did, and even though I kept them waiting, the guys were very patient with me. Their price was very reasonable. I appreciate Roadway's overall integrity and commitment to customer service, and so I feel the new rating I've selected is a fair addition to this review. _____ Both the pick up and delivery crew were courteous, thorough, and efficient: great movers, really nice guys all around. But the Roadway office and customer service itself is a hot mess - and I've moved cross country four times in the last 6 years, for far less money and with far smaller companies. Let me clarify: Pick up was smooth, my estimate was accurate. I packed most of my own things but the pick up crew in New York secured some of my furniture and large pieces of artwork. (They packed my concrete coffee table poorly, though, and while it's not totally destroyed, the delivery crew explained it should have been packed in a crate to prevent the damage it incurred.) My things were moved into Roadway storage for a month, and I was to get in touch with Roadway 10-14 business days before I wanted my things delivered to Chicago. This is precisely what I do. 10-14 days later, I'm not hearing anything from Roadway, so I start calling every few days to check on the status of the delivery. I've had frequent cross-country moves in the last few years, so I understand it takes time, but most other companies I've hired in the past have kept me in the loop on their own. Not Roadway! Expect to chase them down for everything (including a certificate of insurance, which somehow took two weeks to get to me, and I ended up asking the management of my new apartment building to explain to Roadway customer service the very CoI requirements that I had previously sent Roadway twice). By the time I was to expect my delivery - and I had a tight delivery window because I live in a building that requires the elevators/loading dock be reserved in advance, which doesn't work when Roadway doesn't notify you that your items are in transit - the Roadway customer service agents in New York were directly contradicting the arrival time information I received from the driver & movers themselves. So these poor crew are on their way to me with no idea that whomever is sitting in the office in New York is giving me completely different information than the moving crew are, AND that an additional, third party from Roadway is texting me also claiming that *they* are the foreman on the truck with my things? Confused? So was I: at this point I have two different people sending me text messages telling me they are on the truck with my things, en route to me, for two different arrival times. It was so confusing that while my movers (who are AMAZING - I felt so bad for them that Roadway was jerking them around just as they were me) were literally in my new apartment, putting together my furniture, I get a phone call from the other foreman telling me he's on his way. Needless to say, I told him I was all good. Again, the actual crew on both ends are courteous and professional, and I was happy to work with these gentlemen. Having a poor experience with a moving company is pretty unforgettable, so I may not use Roadway again myself, but I've added an update above to explain how Roadway addressed my concerns in a timely and thorough manner. read more

I wanted to share my great experience I had with this company. I'm expecting a second baby and only the thought of moving and wha it takes brought me to a high level of stress. I called Rodeway moving and 2 more others. From the beginning of the process it felt right with them. The estimator Ben called me and schedule the visit, he came on time and was very helpful and professional. He calmed me down and promised I will have a smooth moving day, I got the email with the estimate and we schedule a move date. A day before the move date a crew of 3 men came to my place to wrap up all my stuff, I was shock how nice they worked on my kitchen. They wrap most of the small details and came on the day later with the truck. On the same day they came with bigger crew and washed my apartment in a smooth and clean way. I ordered also unwrap service at the end of the move and by 05:00pm I was almost set at my new apartment. I couldn't believe how on the same day all of that happened. I expected to the worst and I was amazed how easy and stress free a move with the right company can be.
