Generally ALWAYS get great service at the Bearden location. Yesterday was an exception. I'm not writing this to get anyone in trouble only to encourage better training. The young lady who waited on me was polite but she didn't have a full understanding of the menu, she put my to go order incorrectly into the bag. I had to correct that myself. I also didn't receive the hush puppies that should have come with my meal but she wandered off and everyone else was either cooking or covering the drive-thru. I opted to walk out without saying anything because I don't think it would have made any difference. Some additional training is needed and a bit more oversight by management. Buddy's on Magnolia Ave. in Knoxvill,TN has really upped their game on their Slaw Dogs! I am largely unfamiliar with the Carolina-style of barbecue so my review is based mostly on anecdotal enjoyment and ignorance of its cuisine and history. With that said, the beef brisket had a balanced smoke flavor. I couldn't spot the wood used, but it resembled oak with hickory. Nothing overpowering. I'm used to the brisket being cut 1/4 thick whereas this resembled undercooked bacon or even shaved deli meat. I enjoyed it. I just wasn't used to it. The corn seemed dry and I wish I had gotten something else. The hushpuppies were nothing about which to write home but they were a nice side. I'm glad they automatically came with the meal because I wouldn't haven't selected them but they were nice. The baked beans were too sweet for my taste. It had almost an apple flavor to it like someone added apple pie filling to a can of stock baked beans. The staff were prompt. The tables were nice. It smelled delicious downwind of the joint. Parking was manageable when I went around 14:00. It's like a fast food barbecue which we don't see much of back home. I wish my stay was extended because I would return if I could to try some other meats. All in all, I was happy with my visit. read more

We really like Buddy's Bar-B-Q however, it seems to be a hit or miss kinda thing. It's a swing and a miss about once in every three visits with their chicken dinner. Mostly the chicken is succulent and perfectly cooked and sometimes dry and overcooked. The one thing we really think needs improving is a way to keep the different sides from spoiling into each other on the ride home. Cole slaw and baked beans aren't tasty mixed together. Get the delicious bbq sauce on the side unless you want your chicken drenched in the sauce. read more

Very standard, basic BBQ. Got the large pulled pork sandwich which came out to be $4.70 or so. It's the perfect price for the portion you get. Ask for a side of bbq sauce. We normally get the pork plates. Sometimes we get their Hawk Back Potato. Anything we have ever gotten has been good. They are always consistent, no matter which location. I try my best to support family owned/local businesses. I recommend trying Buddy's out for sure! The photo I posted is not a good one. We enjoy eating at one of several Buddy's Bar-B-Q nearby about once a week. Don't judge the others by this one at 8402 Kingston Pike! I don't understand how they can make the food so bad. The chicken meat was bloody brown and looked like dog food. the fries were over cooked and greasy, and the corn was shriveled and old tasting. Found a freaking fly COOKED into my pork sandwich. Told the manager and she said "sorry" nothing more. The kitchen staff was laughing. We were reimbursed for our food but still charged for our drinks. As I sat at the window to get my refund I watched more flies fly into the restaurant. Good clean location and very good service at counter. I ordered a BBQ pork sandwich with side of bake beans. Sauce is ok here. Nothing that stands above others or unique but good. The pork sandwich was better than others have stated but they certainly skimp on giving you much meat. Most BBQ joints put two or three times the amount compared to here. This Buddy's location is what I would call an ideal experience. I've begun frequenting it due to a job relocation, and I have NEVER had a bad experience. Staff is friendly and timely, the restaurant is clean and welcoming, and the majority of the time, whom I believe to be, the owner is on site assisting his staff. Food quality is very high, never had a cold meal, and it's like my mom is making the plate because there's always too much food. Today we my first time going to Buddy's bar BBQ. I have to say the experience was poor and we'll never be back. It has been a very long time since I have been to a restaurant where everything we ordered was consistently bad. My daughter's meal was a ham sandwich which they took two pieces of bread smushed it together and some unseasoned Fry's and Her lemonade tasted like syrup like they forgot the water in it. I ordered a pork combo where everything was dry and unseasoned. Most of it was an edible. My husband's dinner was a joke. He ordered pulled chicken and for the price there was hardly any food. The chicken was so dry we had to manufacture our own BBQ sauce and seasoning. That leaves a sour taste in your mouth when you spend $22 and the food was crap. It's sad because it's not what I have come to expect from a Tennessee BBQ joints. I hope people read this and choose to go to a different BBQ restaurant after this! read more

The BBQ sauce is sweet and savory, the chicken is amazing, pulled pork, fries and hush puppies are ok but NY favorite was the coleslaw and the potatoe salad. I have gone to this Buddy's BBQ location for 10 years, but after my visit today, I will absolutely never be going back. My order was wrong and the customer service was awful. When I went back to get my order corrected, Kevin, the assistant manager, stated that "they get the food wrong a lot." Today I ordered hawback fries with extra ranch and I made sure to say that I wanted an extra side of ranch while I was ordering at the drive thru speaker. I waited 20 minutes in the drive thru to get to the window. When I finally pulled up to the window, I stated again that I needed an extra ranch and then handed a female employee my card. I made sure to tell them TWICE before I paid. A male employee (i'm pretty sure it was the manager) who was checking/packaging food came to the window and condescendingly told me that "in the future you need to tell them you want an extra ranch. We charge extra for that" I told him that I DID tell them I wanted at the speaker and instead of saying "okay" or "my bad" he continued to be a jerk and aggressively repeated "Next time, you need to ask." I DID ASK. That was my final straw- this has been a consistent issue at this Buddy's location. Repeatedly in the past, I ask for extra ranch and I pay for extra ranch, but every time, the employees act like it is a huge inconvenience and like I am trying to steal something from them. And I know that this isn't just an issue with me personally because my husband, father, other family members, and friends have also the exact same issue. The employees act like they are trying to guard the ranch from the customers. I'm not sure if this is a corporate policy, but I paid $20+ for food and I am not dealing with the disrespectful attitude and issues here anymore. I have already told my friends and family about the awful service and the jerk at the window today. None of us will be coming back. Keep the 0.25¢ ranch, I hope it was worth losing multiple customers who have been patronizing this location for over 10 years. read more

For some time now Buddy's has gone down hill. On Saturdays they have all you can eat ribs for $11 and every time I've gone for the past 3 years I have got 4 ribs and nothing more. The regular rib meal is $10 and you get 1/2 pound. This time i went up and asked for more ribs, waited 15 minutes and still didn't get any. A couple next to me went up and asked for more, the same happened to them, they went up again a few minutes later and finally got more but I never did so I left after 40 min of waiting having ordered the all you can eat ribs but got less food than what the cheaper rib meal would have been. I keep going with hopes that they've got better but always leave any location with the same disappointing result. read more
