This was such a disappointing meal and a waste of a 30 mine drive. It's advertised as a Brunch Buffet at the Roar with advanced and door reservations and you had an hour limit for the buffet. It started at 12, which we were already in the building. At 12 we were told to get some appetizers and then the buffet food would be out shortly. We had the appetizers and then sat and waited for the rest of the food. At 12:25 the I guess Manager asked were we waiting for anything else, so I said the buffet. I was then told that the food was cooked to order and needed to tell them what we wanted from the smallest buffet list I've ever seen. I decided to order some dry rub wings and eggs. The wings were okay but the eggs were not good at all. My son got some eggs, bacon and wings. We attended a private event upstairs at Roar. This was for admitted students to a university in the NC system. I had never heard of the venue, but it was very cool! All sorts of games, bays with virtual sports, bowling, table games, and lots of food upstairs near our event. Downstairs was more of a bar area plus some more games. The food was catered by roar and this is why I'm giving it 4 stars. It could have been the selection available, or cost savings by the planner, but it was very lack luster. Put it this way, fudge rounds were in a shading dish. The staff was very nice! They encouraged us enjoy ourselves and refilled the trays. When Roar first opened, I was so geeked about going and it doesn't disappoint! It's like something out of a large fast paced city. There is always live music on the main level and there are so many different places to get delicious food from. Upstairs there is bowling and games. There is also a nice bar. There are all these comfy, cozy chairs and couches as well. The place is very loud, which is part of its ambience if that makes any sense. I have gotten food from several of the locations and it was all very tasty. It was a little on the expensive side, but that is part of the vibe of the location. I'm sure they're doing that to keep the riffraff out. There is also live music on the roof, which usually has a cover charge. The last time I went, they had these little private tents set up. It is a very cool spot for date night hanging out with friends or hanging out with family. By family I do mean adults because it's not really a kid friendly spot. The service at the kiosks for food was also very good. There were a couple of restaurants that were on the higher end which I did not try. At some point, they put the sixth street country store/fruit stand in there which of course didn't last. It's not the kind of place for a fruit stand/country store. that's just not its vibe. I attended what I thought would be a fun Margarita package afternoon at Roar 4/11. There were not a lot of people there but Sadly the evening was ruined by extremely slow lines to claim our drinks included in the package (small drinks packed with ice and very sugary) and 45 - hour wait for the tacos included. (needed to stand by the counter to be sure to get your food as they only had one person checking in everyone to the venue, taking food orders and bringing it out). No number system/name to know whose order was coming out for the taco package food. People waiting missed out talking with the groups they came with, one missed most of a party they were attending and one finally left as they were told they were "last" on the list for their order after 45 minutes And food was handed to people who admitted they ordered after this person. (we had a lot of time to chat while waiting) . Music on the roof top was so loud, people were crowded at the far end of the space to hear each other speak. This place went downhill quick. We wanted to love it in the beginning but it just never got up to par. Food even though several choices was always thrown together and lacked flavor. I don't know that I've ever left satisfied with a meal, The quality is just not there for the price point. Drinks are also just horrible, cheap alcohol and cheap mixers. Bowling and virtual gold use to be fun but over time this place has evolved into a madhouse arcade for kids. This place is so freaking fun! For like $20/pop, you can get an hour of unlimited arcade games, or play a round of mini golf, or go for an hour of bowling, or play in a driving range/batting cage/etc! They also carry Nowadays, which is fantastic, and their French fries are fried to perfection. The employees were also all super kind and caring. I didn't catch her name, but the bartender downstairs took my friend's alcohol preferences into account and made her a custom drink, the dude working the mini golf course was so kind, and Amber who was working the food service counter did a great job handling sooooo many food orders. 10/10 love this place. I want to like roar because they have great ideas but man does it all fall flat. We recently went for twisted putter and it was fun but the lights were on so it wasn't really glow in the dark. They changed the upstairs food hall (wasn't really a food hall) and made it into an arcade. It seems like they have limited staff so it took people a while to get drinks. Overall, I'd go back for the bull pin bowling and the twisted putter but that's about it. read more

My wife ordered the Margherita pizza at Est Est Est. It was a cheese pizza and not a Margherita so be aware of that if you know what a Margarita pizza is and what to expect. Good: The mini-bowling was awesome, staff was really friendly and available. For 4 of us it took about 40 minutes for a game. It was clean. Mixture of kids and classy date nights... the ambiance was odd, like they couldn't decide to be a speak easy or a chucky cheese. Disappointing: The food ... is low level cafeteria level pizza and same for the nachos. I really was expecting a higher level of food options. The simulator area was missing so much, I wish there was an archery option. I'd suggest for 4 of you, 1hr is plenty here. Bar area, they really need a menu, good quality options but no cocktail menu. We keep giving it a chance. I truly have tried to give Ford's Food Hall the benefit of the doubt on many occasions, and after 4 attempts to come here, I simply can't fathom making an effort to come back until the operations are significantly improved. We have been here when it has been slammed, and we've been here when we could hear a pin drop in the building. No matter the capacity, something has always gone wrong. Whether it's being out of certain ingredients, entire meals on the menu, staffing shortages... we have yet to have a seamless visit. My most recent visit: we brought in-laws for their birthday. Nobody was staffing the windows to order - you had to order at the bar. However, the food stall we all wanted - Dragon Fruit - was "not in the computer" at the bar. We had to spend 10 minutes creating an account on their website to order our food. I can tell a lot of passion was put into the concept and the renovation of the building - however the execution is subpar. Ultimately, Ford's Food Hall is a cafeteria masquerading as a food hall. Actual food halls (see Charlotte and Raleigh) have internal competition by different businesses to incentivize quality food and service. Not so here. Roar's duckpin bowling, on the second floor, is the only redeeming factor for us. However, even that is arguably overpriced at $60 per hour. For us, it's only worth it when discounted. Went to Roar for the food hall. I felt like pizza so ordered the margherita pizza at Est Est Est. It should have just been called a "cheese" pizza. The dough was light and airy but when I order a Margherita pizza, I expect a mozzarella melt in your mouth pizza with a light marinera sauce and basil. This was just a cheese oily individual $12 pizza. My husband was underwhelmed by his $11 mushroom Blue cheese burger and his $4 side of fries from Joey Corrells American St food. I did try his fries though and thought they were kinda amazing. My son ordered biria tacos at Centenario and was very pleased. My husband and I spent the day Saturday with my brother and SIL at what is quickly becoming our favorite hangout spot, ROAR. Since we were going to a family dinner that evening, we opted for small bites at Fords Food Hall (which always become bigger bites after looking at their vast menus). This go round we went with the Paloma for me and the Spicy Margarita for my SIL at the bar. My husband and my brother enjoyed using their fobs for the beer wall. Food wise, my husband got the roasted oysters, blackened shrimp tacos, and she crab soup from Blue Crab and my SIL ordered the nashville hot fish sandwich with an elote corn side from there as well. My brother and I both ordered from JC American Street Food - he got the cheesy western burger w/ hand cut fries and I got the Carolina classic fair burger w/ sweet potato wedges and an order of the Nashville hot wings. Y'all have no idea how fun it is to try different drinks at the bar and distinct eats in the food hall each time we visit. Plus, who doesn't enjoy a roaring 20's theme/atmosphere? We have yet to play any of the games on the second floor but we know our time is coming because we can't stop popping in! They even have zombie dodgeball - we are all in! The only downside we have found to playing the games is it's a little pricey - $95 an hour for the simulator and $50-$65 for bowling depending on when you play. But if you go with a group and split the cost it could be worth it! And the rooftop just can't be beat. Seriously one of the best chill spots I've found in the Triad. New food hall on Google it's called the "Roar". More shops will be open in the future including a golf simulator. Prices are higher but expected. The first floor arcade and bar are now open, so I decided to give this place another try over the weekend. Sad to say, I don't think I will give it a third chance...There is so much potential with this space, concept, and everything, but their execution is just BAD. Service is still subpar, this place will not survive with its current quality hospitality. I sat at the Visualiner bar and asked if they had a drink menu and the bartender just shrugged No at me and then it felt like she was actively avoiding me so I couldn't just order a canned wine. It's also really annoying that food has to be ordered through the app - I understand having that as an option, but I really think there needs to be someone/somewhere taking orders in person - call me old fashioned, but I do appreciate that basic level of human/social interaction. The food still took a long time to come out (15+ mins) and the pick up counter is as confusing and congested as ever. The waitstaff/servers behind the counter kept asking for names and ticket numbers associated with the order; Also they were shouting at us from the kitchen doorway instead of walking up to the counter to speak to us...just not a good experience. The wings were good, the burger was alright, but the aiolis definitely were a home run at least. Unfortunately, seating was so limited we ended up sitting in a party room; and a couple people poked their heads in at us, but there just wasnt space anywhere else- we saw someone eating their food while sitting down at one of the car-driver-games, so that should be good indication...After we ate our food, we actually just left and didn't even end up playing any games because we were just so disappointed with the experience. So happy that the triad is getting a new new food halls! Roar is one of may favorites in the area compared to Stock + Grain and a few others in the Piedmont. Roar has a few different floors with many different vibes which is why it's so great! On the first floor you have the true food hall which includes Asian, Mexican, seafood, cocktails, and a few sit down Italian options. All of their food is top notch but I especially love the seafood + Asian spot. Pro tip - go when a live band is playing for some extra entertainment! On the second floor is JL Casper's which is a 1920s steakhouse! Food is on the pricier side but the atmosphere is great. Also check out the bowling alley for some more weekend fun! One of my favorite spots is the roof top bar purely for the amazing views of Winston! Definitely add Roar to your list of places to check out when downtown! read more

Roar has so much potential but every time I visit, I get more and more disappointed in the lack of.... well really everything. We had a bowling reservation with our kids for 5PM. We got to Roar and as we walked in, saw that the entire first floor was under construction. Okay fine, no biggie, HOWEVER, all the food counters were closed and this was not advertised anywhere on their website prior to us booking a $45 bowling lane. We got to the floor with the bowling, no one was there to help us for a few minutes so we were just standing around until someone finally arrived to start our hour of bowling. We also had an issue with our game and no one was around to help us for at least 8-10 minutes. The bowling ended up being fine and the guy helping us out with setting up the game gave us some extra time, so that was nice. During bowling, I sent my husband downstairs to get a glass of wine. He comes back with some terrible rose in a plastic cup. Wine was advertised as half off on Mondays, and he paid full price. We came back downstairs after bowling and now the whole room including the bar was roped off. Just an overall disappointing experience. False advertising on their website regarding what they offer. Highly recommend updating your site to address the food counter and bar closure. read more

I've been to Roar twice now and probably will never go back. this most recent time we went on a Saturday night, and the place was dead. Thought with the announced changes things would be different this time around but it wasn't. The bars were dirty, empty glasses and cans everywhere. Drinks were TERRIBLE tasted like their products had gone bad. Bartenders didn't know what they were doing, service was slow, and it was just an uncomfortable, awkward vibe. 3 floors in there and none of them were well executed. The place felt cheap and run down. The club/dance floor portion was weird. Literally it felt like a bunch of 50 years olds dancing at a family reunion. No young crowd - the bowling lanes were empty and the twisted putter idea was cool but because the bar down there was so bad, no point in staying to play cause we couldn't drink the drinks! Also the drinks are way overpriced. My advice: focus on 1-2 floors that you can execute really well. They're doing too much and are unorganized and cheap and it shows. read more

Hmm, where should I start. The beer on tap is affordable with plenty of choices. However, the liquor is expensive. The rooftop is nice, especially when there is a band playing. Be prepared to pay for parking unless you get fortunate to find a place to park on the street. Good luck with that as you have a better chance of winning the lottery than finding a free place to park. You might as well pay to park in one of the many lots or parking garages. The food has plenty of opportunities to improve taste wise, and the prices are outrageous for what you get. I'm not sure how a family could afford to eat there, as they would be better off dining somewhere else before visiting the Roar. Also, it is self-service when it comes to ordering the food and finding a table to dine at. You will need the money you saved on dining elsewhere for the games at the Roar. This review has more to do do with the food windows on the main floor. Have been here a few times with larger groups. We've tried every food window, and it's been a huge let down. Fried rice was flavorless, 1/2 lb of shrimp looked pathetic and not half a pound. Fish and chips, maybe if it wasn't ONE chunk of overly fried piece of fish. Birria tacos require more than a sauce container of consome to enjoy. Chips and salsa look like store bought chunky tostitos salsa and even the store bought are stepping up their game by amping up their spice. Great place for family fun in Winston. We had a birthday party there for our son and he loved it. Safe environment where they can have fun without being a little kid party. For adults, love all of the drink options that you can self serve. Parking can be hit or miss depending on how busy downtown is when you go. Plenty of food options for picky eaters. The building and potential of this space is great. The product is disappointing. The food is pricey, portions small, and quality was gross... I had to ask for my food 20 min after ordered only to be met with a "you said your ordered what?!" and then the others in my party had to come up and list off their orders too so they could be made. What I got was flavorless, greasy, and a lot of mayonnaise. My elote was literally microwaved canned corn with a splat of Mayo on top. The wait staff in general was a mixture of some unprofessional, some kind. There were some questionable sanitary practices in the kitchen from what was seen. The games were neat but the unappealing cafeteria quality food that left me with a stomach ache really pulled the experience down. My husband was charged $16 for a small, simple mule cocktail. Menus had half of their products missing, including the beer wall. I've been twice now and it just seems that this place can't recover from a downward spiral. We finally had the opportunity to visit Roar a few weeks back during our Winston foodie day. We quickly ordered a strawberry lemon drop and a glass of riesling at the open bar before browsing around. The beer wall is one of my favorite concepts, simply open a tab and help yourself to over 20 taps of beer, cider and wine. Very convenient making this accessible on both the main and second floor. We ventured to the second level-- this is where the fun begins. Numerous bays to enjoy simulation games such as golf, dodgeball, home run derby and so much more. There are several bowling lanes that are boutique-style; shorter lanes, smaller balls, and heavier pins. Definitely an experience! We made our way to the top floor to the really awesome rooftop bar. Littered with chic outdoor furniture and a mini-bar, this is the place to be when mingling and hanging with a group. Really sweet views. Then it was time to grub! Three options were available at the time. We narrowed it down to two. My selections were a Lobster roll with old bay fries, fried okra with Alabama dipping sauce and a helping of She Crab soup from Blue Crab Seafood Bar. We rounded off our lunch with some offerings from Joey Correll's American Street Food. We came in hot with the Coney Islander with Sweet potato wedges and of course we had to order the dry-rub wings. Roar is just simply a neat place. We came early on a Friday, so really couldn't get a feel for the vibe. We spent Saturday afternoon at Roar. They did a good job of renovating the space to make it a fun place. Families were enjoying the food hall so we plan to bring our son in the furure. We started on the first floor where the food hall and Italian restaurant are. We tried to go on the roof but it was too windy. We enjoyed drinks and live music. I had a glass of rose and a lemon drop cocktail. Both were very good. I also had oysters from the seafood food restaurant. They were fresh and cold. I really enjoyed the cocktail sauce. Next, we tried bowling. We reserved our lane ahead of time and I can see that as the best option as Roar becomes more popular. The lane is on a one-hour timer and you do not need special shoes. You can order drinks while you bowl and someone brings them to you. I like that they were different drinks than what was downstairs. I had a peach bourbon cocktail and it was really good. Next, we ate at the Italian restaurant. It was amazing. I wish they had valet parking all day on Saturdays. Also, it can get loud if they are busy. read more

Wow, this place is cool and has so much potential! Gatsby themed from head to toe, 3 floors of things to do, and great food! Entry level is the food hall. There is a handful of restaurants with a variety of food, a full bar, and a serve yourself tap wall. Bottom floor is mini golf with 2 half courses. Its not your average mini golf! Your putters hold your information and some of the holes are interactive. 2nd floor is bowling and virtual reality sports boxes. There are only a handful of each but both are fun! The virtual reality boxes let you play a wide variety of games from golf to zombie dodgeball. My only bad comment is that some of the games require more accuracy than can be picked up. The top floor is a rooftop lounge but that was temporarily closed. Each floor has its own beer self service tap wall and full bar. I was at this new venue in downtown Winston for my friends' band, Hawthorne Curve. It was the third time I had been here but it was earlier in the evening on a Friday night and not as crowded as my previous visits so I was able to explore the restaurants and building. It is kind of like a food court set up with Mexican, Asian, a Seafood place and an American/burger style place. There was also an Italian sit-down place on the right just inside the entrance but I just browsed the menu and saw pastas, salads, pizza's etc. There is a large bar at the end and after ordering a Gin & Tonic and a ginger ale the bill came to $18.42, including tax and 20% gratuity added. I was going to give three stars for the $$ but it was my fault for not catching the auto-tip being added. I can't speak to the food because I was just there for the music but the pizzas and nachos/fries I saw on other tables looked like the standard fare, albeit on the expensive side. But hey, they gotta pay for the amazing renovation they did on what I assume used to be some sort of automotive building warehouse right in the heart of old Downtown Winston. They have an upstairs featuring bowling, golf and other fun games but I stayed down in the live music area in a comfortable living room/lounge area right beside the stage. Not really my kind of place for the money and the open hall type dining (at least for the food court part) but I am glad to see downtown progressing and growing. It was boarded up and in desperate need of a revitalization when I moved down here from Boone NC just a few short years ago. Visited Roar for the first time last week for dinner and drinks. It was moderately busy, with a live band and cute decorations for the holidays. It felt cozy and welcoming. There are a few different options in terms of drinks and food. We ended up getting Italian from Est, Est, Est and drinks from the main bar. Overall the food was good. Although we weren't blown away, the pizza and pasta dishes that we got were tasty. We got drinks from the main bar in the food hall (I'm not sure if it has a name?). The holiday drinks were good but more expensive than I would expect - it ended up being almost $18 for my pumpkin pie mule with an automatic 20% service fee. We didn't get a chance to see the other floors, including the rooftop or bowling so I cannot comment on that.
