The only reason this pizza place is getting two stars instead of 1 is because the staff was at least nice enough to warn us that there would be a long wait for the pizza. Frankly, I have never been to a worse pizza parlor. The pizza was overpriced and not really that good, and the sauce with the breadsticks was mediocre. I would have gotten better pizza for less at a Papa Murphy's or an Abby's. Heck, even the frozen pizzas that Winco would have been superior. I love this restaurant. I always have, ever since it was Pietro's. So it brings back a ton of childhood memories to ride the merry-go-round, even now. I love local businesses that have been around for a long time and are well established. I am the world's pickiest eater. I'm constantly making substitutions to everything and changing it. The staff at Roaring Rapids are always more than willing to take care of my needs and they always get it right. Perfection is their motto, for sure. I know they mess up pizza, as everyone does, but it's rare here. I enjoy their salad bar. It's always fresh and well stocked, never messy. They really go out of their way to help and take care of their customers. The restaurant is quite large, which caters to groups and children. I've used one of their side rooms for a group before and it works perfectly. Again, they are super helpful and accommodating. But they have small tables near the fireplace as well, which is perfect if there's only one or two people. The pizza is wonderful. The crust is always crispy without being overdone. I like that they typically use a light amount of sauce. I am not a fan of lots of sauce. They know their repeat customers quite well and have perfected certain orders, which is impressive. The delivery is always quick, even on busy nights. The parking lot is huge, with a mini golf course and extra meeting/group room as well, with a gorgeous view of the river. Summertime eating outside is amazing. I also go every 4th of July to watch the fireworks. It's a perfect view. Roaring Rapids is a good place to go to grab a pizza with friends. It isn't very close to us and I would say I wouldn't go out of my way for their pizza, but it's good pizza. Not amazing, but good. They also have an awesome carousel and a few games in the arcade area. There is also mini-golf outside, but we came at night so I didn't really see it. They didn't even bother making them for two full hours. It's unacceptable to treat any paying customer this way. Pizzas were OK, but nothing special. Saw this restaurant listed as a top place for kids to eat so decided to try it out for the lunch buffet. Online it said kids were $5.50 but when we got there we were informed that there is no kid price and everyone pays the adult price. Decided to still get it as the pizza, appetizers, salad and drink still seemed like a good deal. Much to our surprise the appetizers consisted of a handful of cold potato wedges and nothing else. The pizza available was 1 slice of Hawaiian, 1 slice of pepperoni and a couple slices of sausage and olives. All cold. While we were wondering if we should ask for our money back a whole bus of volleyball players showed up. Which was then a big crowd of us standing around holding plates waiting for any pizza to come out. I've been coming here for years with various results. The most important thing I've learned is to NOT eat the salad bar. It ostensibly gives me the shits and turns the men's room info a REAL Roaring Rapids. The pizza is AVERAGE quality. The reason for the low rating is that the last time we were here, this fuckin' guy that was a server was going outside with a metal tray of drinks, in a hurry to get outside and serve a table of entitled whites, and straight up hit a little kid in the head with a tray of drinks and the kid started bawling. The Dad assured the douche server that the kid would be ok, but if that was my kid, that server get his ass kicked. I stood up and said, hey, that's fucked up, but nobody paid me any mind. It's right by the river with outdoor seating in the summer. There is private rooms you can reserve for parties and a small arcade. Girlfriend and I came looking for an outdoor dining experience, and food for two types of picky eaters, and this place fit both for us. The place was odd at first, as it had a huge interior segmented into different rooms with tvs on the wall and large seating areas. There is an arcade with games and a giant carousel in one section. The plastic cups and plates combine with the noise of kids pizza parties to make me think of my childhood game-filled pizza parlor with the large cartoon mouse named Chuck E. Not exactly the most quiet or intimate dining experience, if that's what you were looking for. The pizza itself was a nice balance of crispy crust and doughy middle, and toppings were nicely spread. We did a half and half pizza, and it cost around $20 for a medium, which seems a little high for the setting. Some of the toppings, like the mushrooms and pepperoni, were pretty obviously from a can or other generic restaurant supply chain, which was a bummer. Outdoors was beautiful as you are right on the bank of the Willamette River, and it was just loud enough to hear the rushing nature without it being obnoxious. You seat yourself and they bring you your order. There weren't instructions on whether to bus your table or not so we brought the pizza tray back inside as we left. Like a previous reviewer said if you can "imagine the toppings for a small pizza spread over a large" don't order the small because the toppings are imaginary. Sounds like with the large you may get some but keep your eyes closed and your wallet open when you order it. There's a lot more creativity in the menu than the product. Here's where the rubber meets the road, the salad bar is somewhat lack luster -having limited options and not appear it was attended to regularly to keep full and visually it could also use a make over, albeit I understand it's a pizza place salad bar...it doesn't really invite one to want to add a salad. This is the best pizza place ever for families. From the moment we arrived we were treated like family by the staff, owner, and other patrons. We bought the lunch buffet, $ 8.95 for adults, $5.50 for children under 12. Pizza was fresh and tasty. I especially enjoyed the pizza with chicken and feta with pesto sauce, the breadsticks were buttery and garlicky the potato wedges were Super Fresh and the salad bar had everything I could have hoped for. The River View was breath-taking and the kids absolutely loved the free Carousel Ride and the game room. I would have to say that the best part was the staff , especially the owner Gary who was extremely kind to us and took time to chat with us and give us tips on things for families to do around the area. Steer clear if you can manage to find a better pizza option. I'm surprised to see how busy this place can get considering the kind of pizza they serve here. I'm not even sure I would call it pizza. It's hard to explain the texture of the base (dough) used, but it's crusty, flaky and poorly made. It's about $27 for a large 16" specialty pizza (we ordered the pepperoni). I'd much rather go to Costo and get two of their pizzas for the same cost if not less. The toppings tasted okay. I feel like you'd leave the place with much more to be desired. We just went here for my son's 4th birthday party and we had such a great time!! The server who helped us was named Alan and he was so nice and helpful and couldn't have been more easy to work with. We asked to be seated outside at the last minute since the weather was so nice and they said it was no problem. It was free to reserve tables for a 20 person party and the kids AND adults all had fun (which is somewhat rare for a kids birthday party!). The kids loved playing the arcade games and riding the carousel (which is free and goes every 15 minutes). This place is a hidden gem and has amazing river views. We will definitely be back!! Main complaint though is that the prices are pretty bad. It was $35 or so for a large pizza. I'd expect it to be more around $20 for the quality, so you can see that there's quite a disparity. The pizza is all cheap cheese and forgettable crust, but most of the pizza you find in Eugene isn't much better. Roaring Rapids is basically Pietro's Pizza with a new name. And a rose by any other name would still smell just as sweet. I grew up on pizza, it's a family favorite and for about 5 years during my childhood my mom worked at and owned a small pizza joint. Basically this means I'm a pizza junky. I don't like a wide array of toppings or for my pie to be "decorated" with fancy flavors and herbs. I don't even care if you call it New York, Chicago or California style, I just want it to taste good. That is what Roaring Rapids has locked down: taste. They basically use the same recipe that Pietro's used so the pizza still tastes as great as it always did with it's crispy crust and gooey sauce and cheese. Besides the pizza thing, Roaring Rapids has a great location. Being right on the river, it opens a back patio during the warmer months and you're welcome to enjoy your food and beer outside in the wonderful Oregon sun. They have a well manicured lawn and a secure fence so no one can wander off and get swept away with the current. The real deal sealer though, is the old carousel they still have inside the parlor. I remember loving the carousel when I was younger and am so glad they kept it from the Pietro's days. While the parents enjoy some good beer and conversations the kids can ride the mechanical horses till their heart is content, or you tear them away crying, which ever comes first. read more
