Good coffee here but this business opens at 7am which is one hour too late for me and many more people who are taking Lirr train to the city. Would be perfect if this cafe opens at 6am. I wasn't taking an entire roll of paper towels or utensils. I grabbed 3 napkins and I was given an attitude and a sarcastic remark by the employee. Who demanded I ask next time. The owners, Samir and Khalid, have always been wonderful to us - knowing our orders, sneaking me the occasional chocolate chip cookie when I was pregnant, inside jokes, and now that my daughter is older, they make her a special "pink milk" that she loves. Excellent coffee and service. Stopped in while visiting my brother and his family across the street. We walked in for a caffeine kick before heading to the park with the kids. Super friendly service and a great atmosphere. Our drinks were really good and well made. The owners know my brother and his wife on sight, so that was a nice thing to witness when he called them by name. Small business owners who build relationships like that are surely a dying breed, but well appreciated. They had a full house when we stopped in, but they were attentive to everyone in there while they were taking orders and serving up food and drinks. I'd definitely come back. read more

This most recent time, I got an iced decaf coffee with lavender syrup and oat milk. I've ordered this a few times in other places, but Roast & Co got the portions PERFECT! The coffee is so good. I also got a croissant. It wasn't messy to eat at all, which I appreciate, and the butter was light but present. It tasted lovely. The service is great! Every person who works here is so kind and friendly. I can tell they love their job. The ambiance is quiet, cozy, and relaxing. It's quite clean as well. As a local, I love this place. It's really one of those neighborhood cafes that you'll happily go several times a week, where you'll bump into a neighbor and have a good chat over good coffee. The two current owners are amazing. They will remember you and your favorites after a few visits, and will go out of your way to make sure you are comfortable and enjoy the visit. Place is always clean. The atmosphere is always pleasant, and everyone always leaves with a smile. Kind of amused the negative reviews because this is one of those small businesses that everyone around here loves because we know how hard working the two gentlemen are. (From all the times I've visited, the music level has never gone over the point where I have to raise my voice to someone across from me. As for wanting to buy something before the train arrives, the only advice I can offer is show up a bit earlier because the LIRR is on a schedule and creates a rush in the cafe. Don't take it out on them because you didn't give yourself enough time...) Sometimes they have delicious a soup available, but the selection of sandwiches and salads are really good. Can't go wrong with any of them. They also have a nice selection of baked goods and added some gluten free options, no doubt at the requests of loyal regulars. They don't have a seating area at the bagel place and it was cold outside, so we came to this cafe hoping that they would accommodate us and let us sit down and eat. Obviously we didn't expect to sit down in the establishment without ordering anything, so I ordered a latte for myself, a mocha for my wife and a bottle of water. I also tipped the man behind the counter. After I paid, the man behind the counter told me we couldn't eat our bagels there in spite of the fact that we were paying customers. It was cold outside, I had my 1 year old son with me and we just wanted to eat our breakfast and enjoy our drinks. We were effectively kicked out. Extremely rude and inconsiderate. I will never come here again. The man behind the counter told me it was "store policy." How about a little common sense and consideration? I threw my latte away after. read more

They play excellent music in the background, and the Moroccan vibe is excellent & inviting. Food & drinks are on-point, and I love their iced herbal teas. The word "finally" really does seem appropriate when writing a review for Roast and Co's sparkling new location next to the Kew Gardens LIRR stop. And it feels really, REALLY good to have them in the neighborhood, because finally we have a coffee ship that offers: - Organic food and drink options, ie. eggs, matcha, teas, etc. The chai latte is really terrific. - Incredible "foodie" grade baked goods delivered daily from the amazing Ceci Cela and Balthazar. The almond croissant is noteworthy in its deliciousness. - Wonderful and genuinely friendly customer service that seems willing to listen to customer concerns and suggestions. - Hours of operation on Saturdays (this is huge). - Cute, quaint, and comfortable decor and furnishings. If the huge stack of food receipts impaled on the check spindle at the cash register this past Sunday - as my girlfriend and I finished off their delicious egg, cheese, and brioche sandwiches (offered on weekends) - is any indication, I think the neighborhood is as excited about Roast's second location as I am. The several times we were there, we observed plenty of customers seated at this location, as well as those coming and going with orders. To the David Cross lookalike, do better! Story time: Every time I have to go into the city, I always grab a croissant and some coffee if I have enough time. This morning I just so happen to have a bagel that I was eating while walking to the train so I was planning on just grabbing a coffee. When I got to the Cafe, I received a call so I decided to sit outside for a sec cause I didn't wanna go inside and be disruptive. I was literally sitting down for 2 minutes when Huffy McPuffington comes storming out to Choo me away claiming that it wasn't a public spot. Which I get, but what made it worse is that he stood over me and kept going. I of course got up to move away and couldn't even say anything cause I was on a call. I don't think I've ever felt this bad before about sitting somewhere. Like i legit feel like I was discrimated against. Had he had the decency to be of service, I probably would've ordered something extra for having him come outside.....a damn shame....they've lost a customer. Roast & Co is such an important part of my day and Khalid and Samir are so welcoming , that if I don't get here in the morning to start my day, I have to come in the afternoon for a cup of their delicious Moroccan tea. No matter the time of day, they're always smiling , gracious and pleasant. They have made the cafe the heart of Kew Gardens the last three years they've been there.
