Wow, Peotskey is quite a busy place! We were there on a Monday afternoon (summer), and stopped at two other restaurants that had an hour to an hour and a half was before coming across Roast & Toast. This place was busy too, but due to it being more a counter service place, it moved much faster. We ordered the 7 oz soup (broccoli, cauliflower & cheese) & 1/2 avocado BLT, turkey bacon wrap, tuna salad sandwich, blackberry smoothie and garden of eve drink. The sandwiches were all huge, especially the tuna sandwich, this one actually had a bit too much on it. My dad also felt the wrap had a bit too much dressing. They also all came with the fruit of the day, which the day we were there happened to be pineapple. The soup was also delicious, I'm not sure if you're supposed to be able to refill it (probably not), but other people were and it was so good, I did it too. The blackberry smoothie was really good and the garden of eve was delicious, it was so refreshing! I would definitely return to Roast & Toast if ever in Petoskey again! read more

The food that we got was good. The only problem was the service and ordering process. The chalkboard menu said they had 1/2 sandwich with soup or salad combination. My husband ordered the Turkey bacon wrap and cup of soup. He got the Turkey avocado sandwich and no soup. I got my sandwich & salad but it took forever for the ordering lady to figure it out. When we picked up the food they said, you didn't pay for the soup- it's not on the order. So... I think if they improve their service, I would have given them a better score. Yelp listed the staff wears masks (nope) and masks required (nope) which neither bothered me but just so you know. Also I wish I had known the procedure before paying and leaving a nice tip....you order at the counter, you get your own coffee (unless it's a specialty coffee), you pick up your order and you're asked to bring your dirty dishes to the cart...so what exactly are you doing besides cooking my meal? Not a big deal and maybe locals get that but I was caught a bit off guard on it. But to be honest I just now (several hours after our visit) read the complete amenities section and it does say no wait service so I should have known but now I'm telling you all Food was good. Hubby asked for his wrap to be put in bowl, which they suggested they could do, but it came in a wrap. When we refilled our coffee a couple of the pots were empty so we had to settle for what was there at the time. My French toast was pretty good, not as good as I've had at other places but still good. Prices are average and parking could get crazy during busy times as it's street parking. Would I go here again? Sure, now that I know the ropes but I'd probably try another place in town instead (that's me, I like to try different places when visiting). read more

This place was great! I got the roast beef sandwich on sour dough and my husband got the chicken salad on wheat. Both sandwiches were huge and came with a nice size portion of grapes on the side. I had half of my husband's sandwich and he had half of mine. I preferred the roast beef but the chicken salad was good too, even if it WAS messy and falling apart due to the fact that it had so much filling. This is a deli style restaurant with the menu written on the wall. If you're not thrilled with the idea of trying to read a menu that someone is seated in front of there are paper menus right inside the door. Cute coffee house in downtown Petoskey. Walking in I had a deja-vu moment of being in Seattle for some reason. The coffee was great the staff at the counter were super relaxed and friendly. Breakfast for four including drinks was around $30. My whole wheat French toast was yummy - tender with a touch of sweetness. My husband got the breakfast wrap which was huge. The only disappointment was the egg sandwich my daughter ordered - the egg was over cooked and a bit rubbery. My son's sandwich was better so maybe someone lost track of it? Needed a good coffee place and our first option for coffee was closed on Mondays, so we came here. It was packed! It seemed a little dingy and outdated, the outdoor tables (we sat outside) were kind of dirty and had spider webs on them. The lattes were good, I'll give them that, the coffee taste was smooth and robust. The food was just meh. They got my bagel sandwich order wrong, they gave us 2 sets of silverware for a party of 4, idk food just didn't hit the spot here for any of us. We got the blueberry pancakes and they were a weird texture, you couldn't even cut them with a fork, had to use a knife...my bagel was good, very good texture to it. But the filling was flavorless, they forgot the bacon so when it was brought out to me on the side it was super soggy, not crispy at all. The burrito with potatoes were our least favorite one for all 4 of us. The potatoes are completely flavorless, no salt, absolutely nothing on them! Maybe I'd return for a latte but nothing else. read more

I had the granola, which tasted like it came out of a box with soy milk. I didn't feel there were a lot of healthy vegetarian options that sounded savory or appealing to me at all. My BF ordered the 3 pancake breakfast, but was told by one of the staff that he would not be able to get it since they had run out of syrup, mind you it was only 9:30am at this point. Finally the brainiac came up with the idea to get syrup from the neighboring restaurant since they would be screwed the rest of the day without it. read more

This is such a cute find in Petoskey. Both the interior and exterior are cozy and inviting--as well as the menu. The menu is posted on the wall and you order before taking a seat. When we went, the line was pretty long and most tables were full. It remained busy our entire meal, which was no surprise. We enjoyed the avocado BLT sandwich which included house made bread, thick cut bacon, and avocado as well as a ham and cheddar english muffin, and a lorraine egg wrap. All were fresh and tasty, leaving us wanting more. To go, we got a couple of mixed berry scones which were a nice treat the following day. The only thing we didn't love was the breakfast potatoes, they were hot but still tasted pretty raw. It was our first trip to Petoskey but if we do visit again, we will be sure to visit Roast and Toast again. read more

Cool little coffee shop and cafe in downtown Petoskey. They have some great breakfast options for fine in or to go. We popped in for a quick bite on our way further north. You wait in line, order at the counter and then your name is called when your order is ready. This system can get a bit hectic and the room to wait is limited and you do feel as if your always in someone's way. I had a breakfast sandwich with egg, spinach hummus and bacon on gluten free bread. I was very appreciative of the gluten free option. However, the sandwich was so big I had to cut the egg portion in half to bite into it. Otherwise it was tasty. My fiance had a chicken wrap and he said it was very good. I also had the latte of the day which was made with Oatmilk and tasted like golden grams, that was really yummy. One thing I need to note is that there is an area where you can see the cooks ma6food. Directly in front of them is soup which customers help themselves to as well as some other food items. It creeps me out that the food is left out like that exposure, there is so much targgi. In that area and a child could easily stick their hands in there. It just seems a bit unsanitary to have food out like that. read more

The coffee was delicious and the location and decor are cute and appealing. That is all the good. The food was quite frankly awful. My spicy home fries were uncooked...the potatoes were raw. My bacon was limp and not crispy. The toast was burnt on the edges and untoasted in the center. The chorizo on the English muffin I ordered was dry and flavorless. And lastly...they left the produce stickers on the oranges and while these didn't affect eating oranges it just oozes of laziness and shortcuts. So in short...come here for the coffee, it's fantastic. Go elsewhere for breakfast. read more

This place is a local favorite. It has been at this location since the'90's, with some updates. By far the best coffee and lunch place within a hundred miles. Always fresh, fresh, fresh. That was the original idea of the owners so many moons ago, and it has only gotten better. Imaginative sandwiches as well as the usual sandwiches. Bread is freshly baked daily. This MAY be THE coffee shop in Petoskey. And frankly, I think I am being generous with 3*. Nothing I had was really very good. Almost everyone I was with had something wrong with the food that they ordered - one wrap was missing the cheese - one sandwich had mayo were there was not supposed to be mayo - some other ingredient was missing in a salad. Also the ordering and waiting for food process was needlessly cumbersome. Still, we ended up being a big group of people mid-day at this place. We annexed a bunch of tables and lingered for a while, and nobody made us uncomfortable or asked us to leave. So maybe that is worth 3* right there. What I learned coming here, is that just because you roast it yourself, doesn't mean you can brew it up into a thick rich cup of jolting joe. And just because a place is popular, doesn't make it good. Next time, I'd go for the salad. Looked the best of the lot. read more

Food was great, service and cleanliness, not so much. Watched a staff member drop a big chunk of bread on floor as she carried a diner's meal out. She never picked it up and then we continued to watch multiple staff members eye it and even step around it while we ate our entire lunch and dessert. Floor was disgusting and table and chairs could have used a more thorough cleaning between diners as well, but staff are more concerned with making sure you list your personal information on a contact tracing sheet than clean up their establishment. Super disappointed in my experience here. I heard lots of good things, and while my drink was okay, it wasn't what I ordered. (I ordered iced, they gave me hot). After waiting 20 minutes for 2 drinks, I guess I expected it to be correct. In my 20 minutes of waiting I actively heard several employees making the food talk very poorly about the things people ordered-complaining about substitutions and making a big scene. It was extremely unprofessional and I will not be returning. read more
